*Vin Diesel rolls a critical*
"These wraiths are strong... BUT NOT AS STRONG AS FAMILY"
Thank you
Yes!!!!!
you can see yourself out now XD
Vin is is never gonna be able to escape the trope he's placed on himself....EVER. XD
I wheezed so hard I nearly spat out my water. XD
*Purpose of the video* : Vin Diesel playing D&D
*What everyone enjoyed* : Matt Mercer’s DM skills
Wasn't that what I was supposed to enjoy? Oh...
@Alexis ... The truth has been spoken!!!
Alexis Raúl Colón Pérez .
Right? I clicked for the pun alone (okay, also the fact that Vin plays D&D is pretty damn cool, he's great), but Mercer's an awesome DM, really sucks you in with his acting chops. I'm gonna find more D&D stuff with him in it now.
This is very true. I'm upset that he didn't participate more.
Every one jokes and laughs along until the DM starts narrating, everyone hushes and listens in carefully. The smiles and joy immediately vanishes from each and every face. LOVE. IT!
matt mercer is an amzing DM if you dont, you should watch him dm on critical role
that's always our issue when we play DnD. We have certain members that never know when to stop. We'll have a laugh about something, then the DM will start describing stuff, and certain people (more just one guy that everyone hates, but the DM is too nice to give the boot) will jump in to hijack the narrative and make a joke. Really sucks the fun out when they keep breaking the immersion
@@cryofist I think Matt Mercer and Griffin McElroy are the two best DM's in existence. For completely different reasons...but /agree.
@@Trojianmaru I have two of these guys in my group. They take often more than half a hour from our playtime with this behaviour. Thats why keep I my narrating to an absolute minimum in this group. And still we don't make much progress in a session.
@@vogelfaenger6830 knife to the throat.
You can tell Vin has never had a DM like Mercer or players this dedicated. He’s in awe
he's really high, most likely, too (see above comment)
he is a decent dm
The DM can really make or break your immersion. Very impressed!
Makes sense, a voice actor
and jotaro from jjba
Matthew Mercer ftw
And Crom from Fire Emblem
and gangplank from league
Vin Diesel smiling at Mercer storytelling was magnificent, it's almost as though he fanboyed a little haha.
Most players would probably fan boy a bit at his table, as a DM the guy really goes above and beyond.
So what people are saying is:
1. Matt is a good DM (and I agree with that opinion)
2. Vin was stoned when they recorded it.
@Dźwiedź24 Basically both can be true at the same time.
@@theepicduck6922 oh, both are!
I feel like some of them are just smiling throughout the whole thing cos they just keep getting impressed with the DM. He must've learnt SO MUCH to be able to answer all of their questions so freely, and his.sound.effects.wtf. HE'S AMAZING.
I REALLY wanna play game now omg.
Well you could try out a site like roll20.net it allows you to find DMs and other players who you can play with online for free

I know this post is old but I run my own Pathfinders group (older D&D) if you want to play. We have a Succubus, an Elf, Skinchanger, Half Genie, Oread (stone person :3 ), Holy Healbird (Strix is the race) and a few other guest players from time to time. :) Come and join the fun, we're just reaching level 5.
the other players are actually regulars for matt.
Matt Mercer is the DM and he's a voice actor for a lot of blizzard games, and in addition he runs Critical Role, where he GMs.
Seeing Vin Diesel smile and giggle like a teenager is amazing 😂😂 I love how into it he gets
I want a D&D movie where Terry Crews, Vin Diesel, and Dwayne Johnson all play D&D together and the campaign comes to life like Jumanji
solblackguy Don’t forget Joe Manganiello.
So basically a higher budget "Gamers"?
I feel like Jumanji would totally infect a TTRPG. And it would be AMAZING.
*goes off to homebrew a campaign world for this*
Hollywood don't want to win....that would be such a great movie
One is the bard and seduces the dragon while dancing
This video made me think: "Are professional DMs a thing?"
yes they are
Indeed they are. And Matt Mercer is one of my favorites. Check out Critical Role if you haven't yet!
you can actually go on crag's list and hire a professional DM who normally work by the hour.
Austin Furber Very cool! I'd pay good money for a great DM, and it sounds like it'd be a fuckin awesome job!
Some people certainly have a knack for it and make the game more enjoyable for everyone.
For all the people saying "Wow! This DM is amazing!" his name is Matt Mercer and he and several other trained voice actors have a weekly D&D show on called Critical Role. Matt is an amazing DM and he makes the 2.5 hour long videos fly by.

Bobby Ellis 5 hours at times
Yes he can, didn't even realize this video was 30 min till it was done..
also a pretty good actor, seen in independent movies like the Mythica series, and lots of voice acting for anime and video games
Laura Bayley and Travis are married, they both work on Avengers and other series, playing Black Widow and Thor. Matthew's voice can be seen on several animes/games, especially from Blizz series.
Mercer delivering so much that Vin Diesel is just sitting there in amazement.
I'm sure Vin thoroughly enjoyed this experience, with his CRITS added for that giddy moments
He seems to just be loving Matt's DMing especially the voices he does XD
Delivering what? He's cringe worthy performance? 🤮 🤮 I don't dislike the guy... this dramatization is just not for me.
@@snaphaan5049 then i guess rolplaying is not for you. Since he's acting the npcs the party encounters. Which adds more richness to the experience
@@snaphaan5049 ähhh, dats what makes the whole genre so amazing?^^ But hey do you

Can we get Sir Ian McKellen on this?......
I just wanna see Gandalf play Gandalf
@James Kessler MIND: BLOWN!!!
Too bad we can't get Christopher Lee in a game. Rest in peace.
How about Ewan McGregor?
Yes! Yes yes yes! This is the dream
Andy Serkis would be another option for this one I think.

This is so pro, it's almost a stage play. Production values, SFX, music, pro actors/voice actors, props, fog. Quite a contrast of what I remember back in '79 when I stopped playing :) Gygax would be proud.
Even that DM screen is a work of art.
I have been playing D&D for over 30 years and he is the best DM I have ever seen.
He's the DM for the show Critical Role. You can find all the episodes here on UA-cam. They're all pretty long but they also start out with announcements and stuff. Can usually find comments documenting moments in the video, including the "game actually starts" point.
I envy you. I shared a stupid prejudice against DnD considering it "a nerdy meh thing" before.
What a freaking idiot I was...
Well, as long as you're past that now you're good! Time was lost but it can still be made up! :D
I've played with people as good as him. Hell I've played with better gms (if slightly).
Then I finished university and played with below average groups for a bit.
:(
Really great gamemasters are few and far between. You need someone who's a good storyteller and also he needs decent players to work with.
A lot of roleplaying devolves very easily into just "Fight some monsters. Level up your characters. Rinse. Repeat."
When you do find a group who's great though, hooboy.
sweet Jesus this DM is absolutely amazing
James Charles gotta watch critical role!
James Charles His name is Matt Mercer. You should check him out.
Agree but the players are also actively roll playing. Not just I'm going to attack. Also the music/sound effects help. :)
6 minutes into the video, i have to agree. I thought Koibu was good, this guy... I want to see this guy streaming a weekly campaign on twitch lol
Snippa Matt Mercer already does. It's called Critical Role.
Knowing that he planned to have this be a 2 hour adventure, then having it reduced to 20 min on the day itself puts this whole encounter in perspective.
It explains why it's mostly just Mercer talking, he has to really stear this adventure with such a short time limit.
But it also makes the performance by Mercer even crazier, his vocabulary, acting and descriptions are insane! And delivered with so much momentum
That DM was one of the most inspirational DM's I have ever watched.
+Clancy Lewis Matt Mercer is truly an idol when it comes to DMing. How this man does it, we many never know.
Look up Critical Role.
Great job by everyone, especially the dramatic and descriptive DM!
+Tom Miskey Matt Mercer is the best! Tune into twitch.tv/geekandsundry 7PM PT every Thursday :)
+Geek & Sundry Seriously in my 24 years of roleplaying in countless group I've never come across any DM even half as talented in describing as Matt. I truly envy the G&S crew. He is such a genius.
+Waldgeist Awww! We will pass it on. We agree 100%
he was an Excellent DM. Only gripe, was that he has to do a full description of the Monks actions, where as The Dwarven rogue was very descriptive in his actions, and played the role great (tho very acrobatic Dwarves after a hilarious rare bunch). The monk has to step up her game some. all n all, great short session
Kevyn Hansyn I agree. The best situation of course is if the players let the dice speak and then add the descriptive flavor for their own actions themselves. But more often than not players are not as willing to describe as the GM is and if he jumps in at this point to heighten the mood, I am all for it.
The DM makes this game.
+Oblivius33 He is amazing, if you havnt already check out Critical Roll on Geek and sundry's website, some of the most entertaining hours on the internet right there!
+Oblivius33 Just like with most DnD games. Bad DM is way worse for the game than a bad group of people
+Shane Wiedrick Scanlan is the best
+UnNuclear I like Tiberius myself, but yeah scanlan has made me literally laugh out loud!
+Ariescz For sure. I recently began playing D&D proper for the first time, and it was clear that the DM had no idea what was happening, and had no desire to learn. I took his spot and have been running the games since.
Watching Mercer transform from his DM’ing voice into a NPC in .5 seconds is insane, he literally becomes the characters.
"I am Kaulder the Witchhunter..." Holy mother that voice. damn.
Well, he basically made a living out of that voice.

But rather than copy, picking up on the other writers methods and adapting them to develop your own writing will improve the books overall quality.

***** Yeah, nothing against Wil. He's awesome as well.
+DaBomb8493 I feel like Wil leaves more up to the players whereas this guy tends to be more of a narrator DM. Wil will ask the players to describe both the world and the actions in some instances wheras this guy seems to more often describe it all himself but in doing so makes the whole experience more cinematic because of the way he describes it all. First I thought that his reenactment of certain sounds is wacky... but after a few minutes, I really started to like it. And now I'm hooked on his other channel.
Holy crap. Is that really how most D&D games go? Does the DM just completely improvise or do they have to study the scenario or what? I am shocked at how seemingly easy the DM just runs with it.
typedeaf Most DM’s have notes and a good idea of the story characters and what scenario to put them through . But being able to improvise is something you have to be able to. And no, not all DM’s are as great as Matt Mercer, he’s just really fucking good at what he does
I've never seen anyone dm like him before. Most DM's tend to have a general outline and make it up as you go but, Mat just makes it seems so smooth that you wouldn't know he pulled it out of his arse in 2 seconds worth of thinking time.
So so true. I've never thought of watching D&D until we came across some Critical Role vids. And I'm hooked! I have so often been amazed at how easily he switches or anticipates on whatever beautiful crap the players come up with, that is seems like he knows exactly what about to happen. He's a master DM. So much respect for this guy.
With a good DM you can't tell the difference between improv and script and you will never know when dice rolls get fudged or the "rule "of awesome is used. It can be an incredible experience.
typedeaf Mercer did one interview (or it was just chat after one of the Critical Role sessions) where he was talking about how he had this massive thing planned for one of the characters and an NPC that were supposed to meet up, however the character decided to do something else and go off alone, and he had to make up the rest of the episode which was about an hour and a half on the fly. If he hadn't said anything I don't think anyone would have noticed!

I loved the way Matt did that. I know they were rushed for time, and that bit of humor is why we don't feel shorted at the end.
"It has come to my attention that I have made a grave error!"
I have been playing this game since 1987 and i always thought every group played with this level of enthusiasm. It wasn't until recently I started to see almost nobody does which i find really strange. The theatrics is a huge part of the game.
right? i started playing DnD just this year before I even knew about Critical Role. The way I DM, I like to be able to paint a picture with words, not only for players but also, for myself since it makes it more immersive and you'll be able to imagine where you're at and understand the scenes, situations, and encounters a lot more. You'll be able to roleplay better and have a sense that things are there which make the world feel alive.
I actually don't think voice acting is necessary. Some players like the role playing aspect, some players like the 'game' aspect more: making strategic choices and keeping things flowing quickly during combat is enough to keep most players immersed.

I love that Vin Diesel doesn't even have to create a voice for his character, he simply sounds perfect :D
I love that Vin Diesel is playing D&D!!
Matt Mercer is such a god like DM
I just started playing DnD and to be honest DMing is my favorite and I hope to be as magnificent as Mercer is.
I'm a huge fan of Mercer, Travis, Laura, and Vin, but I think my favorite part of this will always be the introduction of Dupont Dupont.
Same. I love that part too :)
It's official. If ever there's a Highlander remake, Vin Diesel HAS to play The Kurgan.
There. Can. Be. Only. ONE. !!1!one!1 (
Highlander is one of the few classic movies I'd really like to see remade, because, while being a great film, it's far from being flawless and there are quite some things a good director and talented actors could improve upon (following the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"-rule).
That would be really dope, I Could even see him being The Highlander himself. No reason that he has to be Christopher Lambert-ish. Though maybe an unknown Scotsman would be the best.
MrFireCowboy but who could play a better Connor Macleod than Christopher Lambert??
Brandon Johnson fucking nobody
Hearing Vin yell out "CRITICAL" made my day tbh.
Yeah he's high as FUDGE during this, lol. Good for him.
"specter, wraith... somethings gotta die" LOL the perfect DnD attitude
never played D&D before or watched it really, but the guy who's the DM i think its called? can make some genuinely awesome sound effects, and the guy playing the barbarian needs to do audio books that'd be amazing
In multiple places they overlayed digital sound effects over his to enhance it, but he himself can still make good ones
ah gotcha, was surprised he wasn't a voice actor with the sounds he was making here, he still has a good voice though, and he seems to make it a lot of fun.
TheTemplarnight so naive! He, vexhalia (Laura) and Grog (Travis) are all voice actors! Look up critical role, if you liked this you'll love that
Best part is that the dm is the voice actor for mcree in overwatch
They both are voice actors.
Wow Vex finally remembered to Hunter's Mark something
This was how I found out about Matthew Mercer as a DM, and later, Critical Role. This video alone convinced me that D&D can be AWESOME, and I am definitely gonna check out CR soon.
Also gonna be playing in a D&D campaign soon - lizardfolk barbarian here I come! :)
you can tell this guy has lots of experience playing with the DM role. Hes gone through every combination already and knows how to pull a twist on every scenario. Very entertaining. every DM should watch and lear from him
I've only ever played D&D once and it was a short game that barely started. As someone who wants to try it out, this legitimately gave me chills from how awesome it is
OH MY F****** GOD VIN DIESEL PLAYS D&D HE IS NOW MY FAVOURITE ACTOR EVER
Vin Diesel is a geek, has always been a geek like the rest of us.
Aaron Kelly He plays WoW too.
Han Yolo pretty sure he's not gay
Han Yolo He isn't gay lol
Other celebrities known to have been, or currently are gamers that you might not expect: Alice Cooper, Bruce Campbell, Tim Duncan, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. These guys and Vin Diesel with either Joss Whedon or Kevin Smith as the DM, also known D&D players, would be absolutely epic.
OMFG, Diesel is the LAST person you'd expect to play D&D, but it looks like he was having fun. I was laughing too damn hard every time I saw him. too awesome.
The guy is a massive D&D fan. Hell, The Last Witch Hunter is based on a character he made for D&D when he was 18.
Urchie2009 SERIOUSLY?! Damn, I'm a huge fan of his all the way from his acting beginning, but I had no idea he was actually into D&D. Heck, I'm just looking into Anima: beyond fantasy. I wonder what his opinion would be with it.
The guy wrote the forward for the book celebrating the 30th anniversary of D&D which should tell ya something :)
And I don't think I've heard of that one. I play D&D 5th Ed and Pathfinder, and starting to look at Shadowrun. How does the system work for Anima?
Urchie2009 from what I know, it's pretty similar, but has martial arts styles and rather than races, everyone is human, but some are embued with the spirits of other races, giving them different physical and mental characteristics. I only recently started looking into it, so I don't know much about it.
Vin Diesel has been into DND for a long time his character in the game is one of his tattoos
Holy crap so I’m guessing the movie he made called The Last Witchhunter is literally just an adventure he thought up for his D&D character
Holy crap I never realized how much Critical Role has impacted tabletop RPGs. I'm playing Pathfinder right now with as a Magus and my buddy is a gunslinger. Little did I know that the first official gunslinger was Percy in Critical Role, and Kaulder was the first Witch Hunter. Later on, Matt would create the Blood Hunter and Pathfinder would turn that into the Magus that I play today. On behalf of my party and every 20 I've ever rolled, thank you Matt Mercer
I thought gunslinger existed in Pathfinder before, since Percy was one for two and a half years before they started the show, and they mentioned having to convert him over to 5e.
@@LilyKazami it did, percy's class was a conversion for him by matt when they moved the game to 5e
It's...a lovely idea, but no.
The Magus is from the Pathfinder book "Ultimate Magic" which was released in 2011, and was created so that PF players could play a gish without being forced into multiclassing madness.
PF's Gunslinger is from "Ultimate Combat" - also released in 2011.
This particular session is basically a marketing collaboration to promote the movie "The Last Witch Hunter"(2015). So Vin is playing his character from the film and has a custom class. A class that Matt later further refined into the Blood Hunter.
Wow that was impressive!! Best Dungeon Master I've ever seen!! Great work! Hope to see more..
+graphicsgod you can: geekandsundry.com/shows/critical-role/
+graphicsgod 2 words " critical role" you will love it
+graphicsgod He is damn good. You should also check out Acquisitions Inc DM'd by Chris Perkins from Wizards of the Coast
And check out the podcast, Critical Hit. 5 years of gameplay, hundreds of hours, an amazing DM who doesn't high jack characters.
if you think Matt Mercer high-jacks characters you obviously have not seen him DM besides this extremely short game
The voicing in the first couple minutes is incredible.
Man.......... Van diesel has just gone way up in my estimation. How cool are all you guys.
I teach all the foster children who come to stay with us D&D.
It helps them escape their stress.
Having something like this is such a help. I cant thank you enough. Bravo!
I normally really don't enjoy watching D&D, but MAN I loved this.
and it is not due to vi either. The DM is just a great storyteller. THAT is what makes DnD fun to watch. I had a DM who was able to go multiple gaming sessions without having us even role a die. It got to a point where we would just sit down and listen to the story.
Of course we eventually got back to combat but some things can be done in story only, no need to worry about combat.
That's the sign of a great DM, when they can keep players engaged without resorting to combat.
Bryan Lariviere if you want to hear a great D&D story check out the "Gods Fall" podcast. Dude made a full campaign and original world around it. Plus the sound effects are top notch.
You should check out Critical Role on Geek & Sundry. It's a live streamed D&D show by the same DM, Matthew Mercer, and a group of his close friends and fellow voice actors.
Wow, McCree is the best DM I've ever seen!
Like shooting fish in a barrel.
I'm your huckleberry.
Tyler H I'm your dungeon-berry
Ryoma seems to be amazing.
(Matt is amazing, I only play McCree all the time just to hear the lines)
First time I've ever watched anything like this, I cant believe how good the bloke narrating it all was, I can completely understand why people get so into this now.
This was a one shot for Vin Diesel's movie "The Last Witch Hunter". The DM, the Grog character, and the Vex'ahlia character have their own D&D show called Critical Role. Their are 4 other characters that are part of it too, and all of them are voice actors. Ashley Johnson, from the TV show Blindspot, is one of the players. Their first campaign just ended in November of 2017, but you can find all the videos on Geek and Sundry Twitch. They are going to start a new campaign on January 11th, so be sure to check it out!
Swash74 i ended up watching the whole of the first video they made before i realised there was about 70 more all at 2 - 4 hours long so cheers for the heads up, ill definitely give this new start a go.
Matt Mercer. He is well known for playing Leon Kennedy.
Snap!!!
@@TheWholeGrainBread_Real wait what??? Awesome
Vin Diesel's character can never be killed. His voice, alone, kills enemies.
As a DM myself, i found this game play very well researched on the DM's part, also the players were playing their characters abilities well enough to get by in game play. I found this game very entertaining for as short as it was. The best thing was imo is that every one had a good time.
...Seriously FUCKING Vin Diesel is playing D&D ARE YOU SERIOUS!? That is Awesome!
He's played DnD since he was a kid, if I remember correctly.
q YeRP yup
Pear Balls yarp
So if he play its,its become a normal game, instead of a game for lonely freack xd
Rodrigo castellano ikr XD
Diesel used to be alright because riddick was badass.... now I see Diesel as a true to life Badass... Diesel is too ballin
No balls. Not ballin. He's Rollin. Rollin hard too.
I just started learing about D&D recently. This is the first adventure I saw and this is amazing. It sounds like a very cool game and this DM definately deserves some respect that was an amazing performance.
Check out his and his friends campaigns hundreds of hours
and holy shit i love matts voice acting its so good
"Tons of d20s just lying about."
Dear lord, it's Laura's house!!
What? Do you know that?
@@asgerhashim3913 Laura is known by the entire Critter fanbase and all her friends as a major dice-hoarder, the only person who may be worse (according to her) is Will Wheaton, who Laura claims to have BARRELS of dice in his basement.
@@ashbrea381 Will Wheaton is probably just trying to find some dice that won't roll ones all the time.
all of them facing highest side up
Jesus Christ this man is a story teller.
Vin Diesel?
Nathaniel Heather Matt mercer
"I am Kaulder the witch hunter. The 800 year old immortal. GRRRRRRR." Stifling laughter...
Omg this was a real treat, just made my day!
A+++ for the DM!
Awesome performance of every participants!
Bear of Sinai don’t know if you know, but critical role is a show where Matt Mercer DMs, and grog, vex’ahlia and other characters play
Whaat a great DM!!! I want MOAR!!!!
+nikoshurricane Share with your friends!
+Geek & Sundry I would give one kidney for a DM like him!
+WolfBlaz I wish!!
Every Thursday night on Twitch.
What channel on twitch though
I clicked on this going "Awesome! Vin Diesel plays D&D!" and I love his character. But listening to the narration that Matt Mercer gives, made my heart flutter. It was soooo beautiful!
I see a lot of people amazed and surprised by Matt Mercer’s DMing and yes this how great DMs run their games! This is the tried and true old school way of dungeon mastering (without relying on miniatures and other table top visuals) It’s very much a theater of the mind! One of my old dnd groups had a DM very much like Matt and it was awesome! I would love to sit in on one of Matt’s games! 😄
you left it at a good setup for future sessions. call up diesel again!
so true, more with Vin, hook it up
to expensive
Carl-Fredrik L
Nah, he actually loves DnD
This DM is legit, excellent in fact. This is how I would love to game.
Look up Critical Role
I just watched Vin Diesel Plat DnD for 30 minutes while knitting a hat. all in all a good night so for.
so far
+Jason Becker How did the rest of the night turn out?
Pretty good ate finished the hat ate a cookie then went to sleep haha. Now I am using my embroidery machine to make d20 sew on patches. How's your night so far.
Not as fulfilling as that, unfortunately. No cookies on hand.
What!!!!!you better get over here stat. I just made cinnamon buns.
Vin's voice kinda suits the character. Let's be honest, everynody's voices are high-quality stuff, it's impressive.
they are all voice actors (including vin, since he did games as well) and I have to agree with you, dream player group tbh
