26 Fun Facts From The Fix (and Friends) | Mentopolis

- In Dimension 20: Mentopolis, The Fix (played by Hank Green) represents hyperfixation - the being in charge of removing distractions and intrusive thoughts. He often does so by focusing on scientific fun facts - although the "fun" part is often up for debate.

Watching Brennan's face transform from, "what a fun, silly fact" to "this is legitimately the most threatening thing I have ever heard" is top tier entertainment
The best part is Brennan said in one of the Adventuring Parties that his thoughts after one of the fun facts (i wish I remember which) was basically just "I need to be dead right now."
@@eddiemate it was the fact about bones in your hand, and yeah. Just nope right out of that threat
I will never forget the "you know, half your bones are in your hands and feet" because yeah, what the hell, that's MORTIFYING in a threatening context
And the added thing of this coming from a guy 4 times your size holding you like a misbehaving toddler.
Ken Kanecki- “write that down, write that down!”
Have you read Tom Sawyer?
Yknow, I always wondered, what would hurt more, breaking the bones in your hands and feet, or every other bone? We can find out together.
@@YaburuRunyaruI am curious why you are asking
The moment The Fix intimidates that dude into breaking his own fingers needs its own animated short.
PLEASE
Somebody call @DeepBlueInk
Hell yeah!
Top Ten Most Brutal Cross-Over by WatchMojo
I loved watching Hank and Brennan flirt, especially with the knowledge that Hank vaguely finds him attractive
"vaugely"
Double Scaroused
I mean who doesn't find Bleem a little bit attractive....and I'm ace 😅
@@dark_neverlandsaaaaame 😅
"Vaguely". Hank Green: "Please never tell Brennan how hot I think he is." 🤣
The swallowtail butterfly fact followed by "I do not think you are the tail of a swallowtail, I think you're the butterfly" is a shockingly wholesome and well meaning compliment. Like wtf???
Right?? It's lovely
i like how it could also just as easily be extremely threatening. "I don't think you are the distraction, i think you are the main problem!"
i teared up when the fix said that the first time i watched because that’s exactly what a kid like conrad (as well as your conscience) needs to hear
The scene with Ronnie Reptile and the shadow really undersells how that terrifying beat came out of FUCKING NOWHERE
And that it CONTINUED TO BE TERRIFYING
One of my favorite moments of that campaign.
Brennan is a genius. Able to hear that fact and immediately use it to terrifying effect. One of the best storytellers I’ve ever heard.
I like to imagine that the excitement Brennan plays as Ronnie is half him realizing how he can perfectly segway into the next plot-beat, and thinking to himself "no fucking WAY do I get to tie these things together"
"There's a shadow downstairs" is still one of the scariest moments in Dimension 20 history
Almost on par with "reality shatters" for me.
@@jdk2535Where was "reality shatters" from again?
Also "romance partner"
@@Julie-hl8ub It sounds very Unsleeping City but I'm not 100% sure?
Also, "The smile of a devil you never believed in"
Brennan knew exactly what he was doing when Pasha started talking about woodpeckers.
Slutty, slutty bird facts 🥺
There are so many non-horny bird facts, but Pasha needed to pick the one about pounding and powerful feelings (With hand gestures)
Also: Freddie just losing his shit in the middle of it there x)
This is very much what being in college is like. You'll just be going throughout your day when someone at lunch says, "You know, whales become more stressed with increased levels of nearby human activity such as noise from ships. So, after 9/11 when the noise levels fell..."
"Holy shit, Martha, you hearing this? The humans finally shut up!"
It sounds like an implication that the whales were involved in 9/11 and that is a conspiracy theory I can get behind.
The way that Hank manages to condition the other players into knowing he's about to say some *absolutely wild shit* as soon as he says about five words that appear to be completely unrelated to the situation at hand, or 'did you know', is insane. His power...
"I feel very threatened all of a sudden"
Ok but did you know that snow leapords have the longest tails in comparison to their body of any cat? And sometimes if they get tired of holding their tails up they'll just hold them in their mouths
That is the CUTEST
@@IrisGlowingBlue Like the pallas's cat, they will also sit on their tails to warm their toebeans
Adding this to my cat fact arsenal, thanks!
The Fix is just the embodiment of a menacing vsauce intro where he tells you a fact and then states at you deadpan
So normal vsauce
Freddy being SO FUCKING INTO the back and forth about birds is just the best.
One of the best parts about The Fix is he genuinely has no idea how terrifying he is sometimes.
Brennan & Hank flirting in character as The Fix & Pasha actually taught me what flirting is....and I'm 37
I feel like Brennan was out-Brennaned by The Fix. Hank was an unstoppable force.
Hank's performance evokes some Cohen Brother's movie character...sort of the guy from No Country For Old Men, but like, if he wasn't actually a psychopath, he just came off that way and everyone was terrified of him even though he wasn't violent.
Like the old man with the shovel in the first Home Alone movie, but just carry that energy throughout the whole movie
Yes, “autistic people = odd/unsettling = frightening” in mainstream media is a fairly common ableism
There’s a hitman in Terry Pratchett’s The Truth who brings up obscure facts all the time.
@@Xanderj89 The Fix is literally a cartoon embodiment of one specific trait of humanity, and in a way where it makes complete sense for him in-world (he "eliminates distraction", which is how hyperfixation works, and "distractions" are also cartoon embodiments of such, such as the big invasive thought guy). He's also shown to mostly only be "frightening" toward the 'targets' of his characteristic. He is in actuality shown as very soft and kind-hearted, sweet, and caring; such as how he cares incredibly deeply for and regularly visits the children of the orphanage of discarded interests to check in on them.
I struggled my entire life with mental illnesses with sometimes very severe symptoms, including invasive thoughts, and hyperfixations to the point of forgetting to eat or sleep or do other things I have to. I didn't feel one hint of ableism or feel one hint of offense in either of these representations. I thought they were an interesting and funny portrayals of how embodiments of these specific characteristics that can present itself in me and some others, and sometimes in dysfunctional and "symptomatic" ways, interact with each other when personified and made manifest as these clever and unique 'characteristics as characters'.
Plus you're commenting this on a scene where the cartoon embodiment of distilled hyperfixation meets other 'characteristics made characters' where they deeply connect over and are validated in it. I mean through the entire thing, even with the invasive thought, we are shown time and time again how the things which make up hyperfixation as a characteristic (or symptom depending how severe it is presenting itself) can in many cases be helpful and valuable and appreciated and can help solve problems or prevent new ones. Idk if you also struggle with mental illness yourself, but this feels like a reach where you're trying to be upset, when there is enough actual problematic and harmful media out there than this D20 setting which I feel is a very interesting, well-researched and well-thought-out, and compassionate portrayal of the inner workings of a man going through a very difficult time in their lives and how their "inside out" would feel and look. In ways that make me feel more seen if anything, not less.
@@Xanderj89 Go look somewhere else for things to be upset by. He's literally a manifestation of hyperfixation which occurs in just about everyone concerning one thing or another.
I love how absolutely ecstatic Hank is at 7:52 when Brennan starts telling *him* facts.
Unexpectedly getting into an improv skit with Brennan Lee Mulligan is like getting called up on stage at an arena concert
The most interesting things, delivered with a calm even demeanor, in the MOST STRESSFUL SITUATIONS, means he's utterly calm and unbothered.
Which is TERRIFYING.
Seeing Brennan merge Hank’s great facts with the world is absolutely class.
“Do you wanna know some facts about your bones?”
WHAT'S SO WIERD ABOUT WANTING MY BONES
I love how even his comrades and friends are constantly intimidated and horrified by the random facts.
The "He can't think of any facts" was actually brilliant
That would mean that the big guy dealt with his hyperfixation
Pasha fixed The Fix
no, I think he just found a new one.
The Fix never needs to roll Intimidation.
One of the absolutely best characters in Dimension 20 history
The first one will always have a special place in the fact tierlist because of how no one was expecting it
I use this fact whenever I possibly can.
I completely forgot that The Fix is the reason Elias was shitting
Some tough telling you that fact about hands and feet has got to be one of the most terrifying things D20 has ever seen.
I love that the cast all figured out that this was going to be terrifying before he even got to the punchline
That's why they call him hank mean
I just love the little dance he does when he meets pasha, it's adorable
Hank Green is an American Treasure.
"boy dinner" "girl dinner"
No this is my autistic dinner let me have it !
YES!
"Bleeding the good stuff out of your nipples" is wild
12:32 That head tilt laughter and the sudden jolt back to delivering the fact was very scary to witness.
Honest to god the constipation fact made me stop and stare into space for a good five minutes
A few error correction for the cc's:
4:03 Mr. Bishop should be Mr. Bition (the guy's name is Mark Bition -> M. Bition -> ambition)
10:06 Roddy -> Ronnie. Ronnie the Reptile's profile appears a few seconds later 😶
12:26 Juan de Veve should be Joie de Vivre, the feeling of enjoyment of life
You didn't say... um actually...😂
3:30 Freddie's OOC "Broslowdownwhat?" Amazing.
i was so hype for hank and trap in a Brennan game, but then FREDDIE WONG enters the chat. Unbelievable. Get this man back and involved, he's a treasure
Mentopolis was legit the best D20 campaign in recent history.
How long ago has Calamity been?
@@p4hagen197 Calamity is from Critical Role, not from Dimension20 😊
@@RuiAMGSilva Ah Really? I thought it was a collab
@@p4hagen197a collab with Brennan and Lou as GM and player, not necessarily with D20 :)
I’ve been a fan of Hank’s for years so it was rather unsettling to find him so attractive as The Fix, especially since I’m asexual.
Gentle giant + facts + that voice = “am I really asexual?”
I'm super asexual but also super queer & still experience various kinds of non-physical attractions :)
YOU TOO???
No fucks, full facts.
@@dark_neverland I _had_ heard that asexuality was a spectrum.
"did you know most of the pyramids in the world are in the Sudan?"
Oh, this is the most non threatening thing he's said.
"Anyways, I killed the kid."
15:44 um ACTUALLY, TRAPP, breast milk comes from a modified sweat gland. however, breast milk CAN have blood in it (called blood milk) and it's normal and good for the baby. breast milk can also be white, yellow, light green, or brown, all totally normal colors. all safe for baby.
Isn't sweat modified blood? I thought that's where he was going with it. I don't remember though, It's been awhile since I watched the associated scishow videos about milk production lol.
Trapp: "I see what you're going for, I'll give you the point unless someone can be more specific"
Brennan "Bird Facts" Mulligan strikes again!
Certified Rosate Spoonbill Moment
15:58 "Everything's based on some pre-existing structure" like how jaws evolved from gills
And scales came from teeth.
Pelicans have 3 stomachs… and one of them’s just for boooones
the shadow fact and the timing of it was *chef's kiss*
Me when I saw this video dropped: "I feel very threatened all of a sudden"
Where can I find someone who flirts with me with fascinating/horrifying “fun” facts?!?😭😂
I never thought Hank Green could ever be genuinely terrifying but here we are
16 minutes of Hank and Brennan just flirting
My buddy asked me for an animal fact and I went on for 40 uninterrupted minutes of animal facts, and he asked me if I was okay. Anyway giraffes fight exactly how you imagine they would
You have to understand that most people have no instinct for how giraffes fight
@@holyknightthatpwnsneck big, they literally swing it at each other
So either they use their necks and heads like ball-&-chain flails, or their necks are used like swords. Probably more the former, but the latter just brought the thought of “samurai giraffe duel” and the inlying implications of that lol.
Thank you for reminding me of the greatest gag character in anime, Neckson McLongo @@BroKenYaKnow
And they sleep curled up kinda like cats!
Best season in my opinion
hard agree
This and Burrow's End, for me. Just wonderful.
I’m not 100% sure I’d say it’s the best, but by god it’s certainly close.
An interesting fact about the brain (which feels rather appropriate given the setting of this season) is that its constantly undergoing a process called phagocytosis or sometimes pruning, where essentially it eats itself. The brain's cells will consume smaller cells and molecules to help preserve your grey matter and get rid of unneeded neurological connections.
This makes sense since all the cells in iur body, outside the heart & lungs, if i remember correctly, regenerate every 7 years. I always wondered what the heck the brain did
I wonder if a mutation in this process is involved in psychological phenomena like eidetic memory
I roll for intimidate.
Did you know.....
Best character in dimension 20.
I loved the exchange between the fix and pasha its so cute.
That Eagle fact gets me every time
I still get chills at the Ronnie scene holy crap
Throughout Hanks childhood he would study, study, and study even more. He never knew what he was studying so much for until he got a call from Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Humans have “taste receptors” in their digestive tracts, urethra, and testicles as well as a few other places in the body. These are mainly connected to autonomic regulation functions for release of enzymes and other substances. They really are just a chemical binding site connected to the nervous system. So these receptors are not truly affiliated with taste, they just share a common mechanism for operating as reuse of common structures is biologically efficient.
Your statement may be more scientifically accurate but I am still going to share the simple version first to reel people in to the science.
Thank you, Dropout, for making this compilation! The Fix was one of the best D20 characters ever, and his facts (and the delivery) are absolutely worth seeing, even if you don't watch D20.
The Fix: "Did you know-"
Me: "I killed someone drunk driving last summer. My friends & I disposed of his body and swore an oath to never speak of it."
I wish we got another campaign with this group
I am so glad a supercut got made! Some of these facts, both in game & in AP had me in tears
The title is _26 Fun Facts_ but it should rather be _26 Ways to Scare your Enemy_
“Fun Facts” are The Fix’s love language.
What I've read in biology said that mammary glands evolved from sweat glands, and that milks is what happens when you turn the fat content of sweat to the point it will form fat bergs.
Great season, just for the fact fight. Should probably be a game changer episode: Just Brennan and some guys throwing fun facts
"Just fun facts. They're not scary."
This is true. Were I reading these facts in a little compendium by the toilet, I would probably think that book is named "Just Some Fun Facts For When You Ain't Leaving The Toilet For A Long Time And Need Something To Occupy Your Time And Mind".
Or something to that effect.
What I'm saying is, context and delivery are also incredibly important in determining exactly how fun something is, and almost every time Hank opens his mouth, it doesn't take long for these facts to become terrifying.
This was one of my favorite campaigns, largely because of Hank. Please bring him back.
The best part of mentopolis was in fact these fun facts
Did you know that the axolotl-a species of salamander native to Mexico-has regenerative properties so powerful that it can regrow an entire limb in less than two months? And it can also regrow parts of its heart, eyes, and brain? And scientists, trying to study this ability, have grafted an axolotl's head onto another axolotl's body, and the creatures can survive for over a year like that?
People I look up to and respect as creators going, to both Evan Kelmp and The Fix, “holy shit that was legitimately very threatening” gives me hope both as a creative and as a person with the general dangerousness of an unmoving stone. I could be,, The Scary
This would do numbers on Tumblr
Seeing these two together, I'm all:
"YOU GOT YOUR PEANUT BUTTER IN MY CHOCOLATE"
"YOU GOT YOUR CHOCOLATE IN MY PEANUT BUTTER!!"
I'll see myself out.
An absolutely amazing campaign! Which makes it criminal there are no pins for these fantastic characters on the dropout store (I am not-so-subtly begging)
i hope someday that Hank joins the dome again
0:18 There are moments in shows where you realize that you'll never be able to watch this for the first time again... this was that moment for me 😂😂😂😮💨
Hank facts were great throughout the campaign.
Respectfully asking for another season in Mentopolis!!!! Thank you in advance !!!!!!!!!!
Alex's reactions really elevate the facts😂
Thank you for uploading this
LOVE THIS SEASON SO MUCH
I love this so. much.
It’s like we’re listening to that guy from Criminal Minds
I desperately wish to see The Fix in PF2E. He'd make great use of the Scare to Death skill
Wait if breastmilk is almost identical to blood but without the hema... then can vampires (and other blood drinkers) live off breast milk?
Extremy cursed ethical vampires
@@SeveralGhost right?
I mean, probably not? Not any more than a baby could live off of drinking blood
@IrisGlowingBlue I suppose it depends if the hema is necessary for the vampire or if it's close enough.
Please keep making this content 💯
One of my favorite seasons of Dimension20. Knocked it out of the park.
7:46 Brennan fighting terrorism with Bird Facts
I JUST discovered this, this week….. and THIS campaign is what broke me being into a paying subscriber because I NEEDED TO KNOW AND WATCH MORE…… OMGODS y’all have saved my sanity in this fiefdom
many great facts from the fix! thanks d20!
Ostriches have a hotdogs bun instead of a hotdog
9:10 Does this mean that woodpeckers can taste their brains?
In the same way you can technically taste the inside of your own mouth
to update, this fact isn't actually consensus atm, it was one of a few theories on how woodpeckers protect their brains, but it was found that there actually isn't any sponging in or around their skulls at all; to put it simply we have no idea how woodpeckers do that shit
I am totally going to steal the concept of the fix for one of my DND characters. I will definitely try and get my own facts but I feel hank has already used the best.
I really wish I could hear Hank say, in the Fix's voice, that the first time someone blew up a plane, the perpetrator was charged with specifically murder because nobody had thought to make the act of blowing up a plane a crime.
That absolute excitement he had when Brennan returned with a "Did you know". was great.
Now when I watch Sci-Show I feel like Hank is threatening me to learn facts. I have never learned so passive aggressively.
Sweat is somewhat the same as milk. You’re sweating blood practically. It just also has no heem. It’s the “watery bits” from your blood in the very basic sense.
I just subscribed to Dropout for Game Changer but I'm looking forward to expanding my watchlist with this
Chef's kiss.
