When you gonna address a wrong doing for a puppy say it loud and clear voice, “NO!” is much better than “ow”

@@shainal.joseph5374 same here...she keeps on biting me and whenever I say no... She start biting and attacking me mo
@@shainal.joseph5374 Honestly a really big part of training is your energy. If you show even the slightest hint of fear or submission, some dogs will jump on that and take advantage of the superior position. If your puppy starts biting you roughly, stopping play and ignoring her might be a really good idea. If she continues to go after you, a time out should be in order (a dog safe bathroom or spare bedroom works well, don’t use her crate.) I totally get the frustration so I wish you luck!

Same what have u been doing to make it stop bitting
Kevin Mendez it’s important for everyone in your house and everyone who comes in contact w the puppy to have the same consistent response. “No biting” is the phrase my family uses, very firmly when she mouths. Redirect them with toys or food, they won’t remember what he/she was just doing so it won’t reinforce the biting. And ignoring them until they stop biting also helps. Like teach them that if they want to play by biting it won’t get them love or attention. So don’t make eye contact or movement for 10-30 seconds until they stop. Or you can leave the room, or put them outside of the room behind a door, etc for 10-30 seconds so they get the message that biting is not okay. It takes time and patience also. They grow out of it at about 3-5 months

My 10 week old puppy DESTROYED his Nyla bone. I am scared for my future
my puppy is 6 weeks and bites harder and he's a lab..is it Normal?!😭
@@taytxt yes, it's completely normal. I have a 10 week old lab female and she used to bite all the time but as I have a 1 year old baby at home so I had to teach her what to bite and what not to bite. Just a strong and loud Shhhh works in my case, whatever she's doing, she stops when we say Shhh. It's all about practice and patience, puppies are babies who can't understand what you're saying and will take time to know what your words mean.
Don't use sentences, use small cue words like No, Stop but your tone should be firm because if you speak in the same tone that your normally use, they won't understand and they'll think of it as a play only.

I like Zac's training techniques and explanations. Puppies will bite while they are teething. One night my three-month-old GSD pup bit my face while I was in deep sleep and I woke up screaming. I bit him right back on his nose, much like the other dogs in my pack react when the pup annoys them. I didn't hurt him, but I did bite down firmly. He yelped back. He hasn't bitten me since.
Make sure you don't give your dog rabies next time you bite him lol
Honestly, that’s probably the best advice I’ve gotten in my three day search on this topic. I’m not sure whose pup these frilly foo foo methods work on but it sure as heck ain’t working for my rescued pit puppy, that’s for darn sure!

We finally figured out that when our puppy gets really bitey (yeah it s a word), she either needs to poop, eat, sleep, drink or play. It’s always 1 of those 5 things. If we are patient enough to go through the list, we figure out what she needs and she calms back down. She is exactly like a 2 year old child. It has made life so much more pleasant around here since we stopped all the gimmicks. We are trying to anticipate her needs to prevent her from getting to the point of biting.
Thank you zak for the info!

for quite but I'm picking up different tips from you I appreciate it have a good night ...
This is really helpful, got our first dog so glad its normal.
My puppy is almost 2 months old. We try to teach him not to bite, but honestly, I think the biting is getting worse and more painful. The most difficult thing is that he will take place EVERY chance he gets to bite our socks (when we are wearing them). His teeth get stuck in the fabric and it's almost impossible to get him to willingly let go. If we walk to fast, so that he isn't able to bite our socks, he would jump in front of our feet and we would accidentally kick him. If we walk normally, then he bites our socks. (just saying, it also really hurts our feet as well). He also bites the carpets and the pee pads. Is it okay if they chew on their tails or feet? What do I do?
Exactly, the same my puppy is doing. Like literally same. I am applying techniques from your videos but all are just useless when it comes to encounter my puppy which is turkish kangal 6 weeks older
@@jazz9090 any progress? I have the same problem. Our puppy just keeps nipping on our feet :(
PUPPY UPDATE: My puppy has been getting better at the no biting thing. I learned that you have to imitate a dog whimper for them to stop or soften the bite. My puppy will start to get super harsh with his biting though if he's mad at us or if we haven't taken him outside yet.
I don’t know if it’s okay to chew their own feet my puppy does it and we took him to a training place to control his biting. But before that his bitting was out of control and if you have a crate you can put him in there. And if it’s a little out of control you can try and waste there energy
@BellaBloxGaming I read somewhere that if your dog breed is one that was used for herding cattle, then they will attack/chew on your feet and legs because of the movement or something. They're not intending to hurt you (hopefully). But don't worry, it's possible to train them to stop or they will soon grow out of it.

Extremely helpful
Omg soo useful!
Zak, could you make a video about the honeymoon period regarding rescue dogs and what steps to take before, during and after this phase?
I love everything else about your work Zak, but on this one I had to use an old-school method. A sharp "pop" to the flank, enough to sting, will get their attention. Screaming "ow" at the top of my lungs is also working, although it scares the heck out of the cat. Adult dogs don't offer toys or quietly say "no" to pups; they correct them. I could not do anything with my pup otherwise, she would attack my feet, any shoe I had on and my hands incessantly, all attempts to distract or stop her were seen as a fun challenge. This method still needs repeating, but I can see her thinking and redirecting herself when I show her the flat of my hand.
That You so much! I have a beagle/Boston terrier and he’s only a couple weeks. I will be buying the puppy box cause I need it ! You help so much. He buys me so much my hands ,legs , and feet 😫
Puppy biting is essential. This is how they learn to regulate bite pressure as they grow.Always have a toy at hand to transfer the dogs attention away from your hands/arms.If the pup carries on biting your hands get up and leave the room, pups really dislike being alone.Repeat these actions each time the pup bites, they very quickly realise what they are doing wrong

Really great video
My puppy could not care less about yelping or other noises to signify the bite is too hard. Sometimes that will just rile her up even more.
We have a very easily excitable puppy - just sitting on the floor might sometimes be enough to get her worked up. Lying down on the floor is straigh up hazardous.
We've tried a lot of things:
- Redirecting - using both toys, treats, with/without vocal cues, praise when chewing on what's allowed.
This may work for a couple of seconds, unless she's REALLY decided she WANTS to chew the fingers, overarms or table instead. If she has, no amount of redirect helps - even with different toys. If we use treats, she'll come for the treat, then go back to biting what she's not allowed to.
- Yelping - Using both high pitched squeals, louder OUCH, firm NO
Seems to work better when she's chewing inanimate objects. The other day she learned to be SUPER gentle with the nail clippers. I used yelping, and eventually she barely touched she clippers, and started licking them instead. This does NOT work with flesh...
- Going limp - Making a noise, squeal, no, ouch etc, and just dropping fingers/hands letting them go completely limp.
Would NOT recommend this with our dog.... It's like she thinks "Oh yeah! This just got a lot easier! I'm gonna devour this hand now!!" It's just too painful and too damaging to the skin. Can't bare it.
- Ignoring - Getting up and turning away / leaving the room for 30 seconds
Will work for the amount of time I am actually not in the same room and in her vicinity. Going back after 30 seconds to resume whatever activity was going on will lead right back to new wounds and bruises withing a very short time. And she will usually hang on to my thigh or somewhere else on my leg while I try to walk away.
Getting up and just turning my back is completely useless, as she'll just come around or latch onto my leg or feet....
- Quick grab of the scruff to signal no
Yeah, no, just forget it. This will send her from 100% to 478% crazy.
- Making chewing on hands lead to discomfort
Sometimes I stick my finger down her throat when she won't stop chewing on my hands. Apparently she has the gag reflex of a god, and doesn't mind it all that much. Although her bite gets softer as I do this.
- Soaking hands in vinegar to make them smell and taste very bad
Sure, it works like a charm while the vinegar is on there, burrowing into your sensitive, puppy ravaged hands that are full of small cuts and wounds.... If you like pain, then this is for you. And if you like fixes that only last for about 15 minutes, AND bring pain, knock yourself out.
- Calming down before being let go
The method we use, as adviced by a dog trainer when we asked about biting, is the following:
Put the dog down on her back, with her head resting on your lap.
She stays there until she falls asleep.
It's supposed to be no touch, no eye contact, no talk - we've had to adjust it to where we hold her in place for the first few minutes, and then just support her sides. When she's calm, we praise her calmly and give her gentle belly rubs. When she's asleep for about 2-3 minutes, we calmly praise her, give her calm cuddles, and allow her to move if she wants to.
This has, up until now, been the most effective remedy for just about everything.
That being said, she's now at an age where she LOVES testing eeevery boundary and rule she can think of, so we have some struggles.
- Turning every instance of unwanted bitey behaviour into a training session
Well. It works then and there (unless she's tired, which applies to all of the above really). She's started to respond better and better to certain hand gestures (she responds way better to hand gestures than she does with commands. Even sit, which we initially started teaching like one of your videos show - tilt to a sit, do a few times, then introduce the word).
- Naptime!
The only thing that's effective for an overly tired, hyper puppy (at least for our girl).
When all of this has been said, I'm not saying neither of the alternatives work at all. I'm merely saying there are lots of different things you could try, and eventually you will find something that works for you and your puppy.
We've had our girl for a little over a month now (she's just a baby, so we are prepared for a few more months of biting). And to be completely fair, it has gotten A LOT better. We are working on it every day, and there is definitely progress along the way.
When she arrived everything was just teeth. Except when she was sleeping. Now a lot of situations where she would previously chew our hands bloody have turned into relatively safe things - like petting her when she comes over and sits down in front of you, back turned againt you. We couldn't stick our hands down and expect not to be bitten before.
It just takes a while. A looooooong while.
And on top of that, the breed is known for their extreme stubbornness as well, so there's a lot of work left.
Anyway, thanks for your videos - I have recommmended your videos to a couple of friends of mine who recently got (and will get) puppies. :)
Just a little update in two short weeks. The biting has gone down exponentially - if it's due to training or maturing, I'm not sure. But we have come to a point where a powerful whimper with physical movement to suggest pain actually works. She might go back to playing after a brief moment, but she is more gentle when she returns.
Worth mentioning is that she has started to lose her baby teeth. Just two for now, but they're on their way out now. 😅🙏
She just turned 16 weeks, and seems to be responding better to just about everything. She still won't come when called it she's playing with other dogs, but it's improving more and more at home - so hopefully that will come too. 🤪
Anyway, just thought I'd update in case someone is sitting in their home with a new puppy thinking the shark tendencies will never end. They will. Just be patient and kind. 😊
Zak, I sat up last night watching your tutorials, the results in our 12-week old puppy is stunning! Thank you
The girl in this video looks like a brunette Taylor Swift.
I love your dog, You are so blessed.
