Fuji X-T5 is really something special. Set the video controls to movie optimized controls with the shutter speed at your chosen shutter angle and the iso you want and then the camera is all set for video with the 2 small dials and set to your settings, and then you get the great analogue dials for stills with the flick of the movie stills switch. Absolutely beautiful colorgrading - both photos and videos. There is something about your photos that makes them look so dreamy, sharp, but at the same time "soft", there is some "lightness" in the images that I absolutely like - it almost feels as if they were photo-realistic pictures! I absolutely love this kind of style of editing. I wonder how you edit your photos :)
Wow, thank you so much! Really happy that you enjoyed everything. I actually just released my first ever preset system for Lightroom. Really proud of it. Link is in the description if you’re interested! 🤘

i thought this channel had like 100k subscribers or something. just by the quality of the video alone. this felt like a quick chill sesh or a hangout.. forgot i was watching a camera review. the footage was awesome, photos were fantastic...seriously, nice work. inspiring stuff and makes me want to get out and shoot again.. been a while and was looking at these cameras etc....but this helped bring down all the crazy hype and made me remember its about what camera is good for you and your purposes, not the latest and greatest....although seriously, those x100v's.......idgaf, they might be overhyped but take some damn good photos...i think its the camera of a lifetime. but i digress... great work.
Haha not quite 😅. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! Yeah, cameras are cool and fun but the reality is that they’re all perfectly capable these days. It’s most important to just find one you enjoy the process of using, really. Anywho, cheers!
The X-S10 is fantastic for both and doesn’t have the ergo issues of the xt series. Also pair with the 23mm f/2 instead of the f1.4, it has great focus motors at half the size. X-S20 is getting announced in a few days as well.
Waiting for the X-S20 as someone who does both photography and videos. Wanted an X100V at first but couldn't get it anywhere and after research realized it's not really the best for videos
Man, managed to grab some time to sit down and focus on something other than work and watched a few of your videos. Love the style and pacing, almost inspired to film some trips and stuff myself lol! Glad to be subscribed so thanks for the inspiration 👌🏻
Man this is THE comparison. I love it. As someone who lives near Tacoma and is considering both of these cams, it’s cool to see what those colours will look like around these parts haha. I think you pretty much nailed something I’ve been coming to the conclusion of as well, that there really isn’t a PERFECT hybrid camera - you’re almost always going to need one for both, BUT it’s because of usability, not necessarily image quality. I love how well my Panasonic S1 can separate custom modes between video and photo, but I honestly don’t like taking photos on it at all. The Canon R5C is the only camera, with its mode/OS switch, that TRULY splits it into two different cameras, but there’s other trade offs and you’ve got extra bulk because of the video modes that wouldn’t end up being a great photography experience. I’m hoping that Fuji can figure it out with the actual shooting experience of video, closer to Panasonic.
Love your story telling, the cinematic and photography. I appreciate you making this video. I currently have the x100v and is my first fuji camera. I have been blown away by the colors that Fuji brings to the table but I also own a Nikon Z 6 II. I have several prime lenses and 1 zoom so it's hard to consider making the switch when you are so invested into one system for over 10 years. This video however, has helped me on the next steps to take. I am going to rent the X-T5 as well just to be 100%. As much as I love the portraits and street/nature photography the camera renders, I HATE THE AUTOFOCUS particularly around my kids. So I have been in the fence about upgrading to a Fuji system that is more capable in that area. The X100V I think it's quite bigger than most people think. It's not so much a camera to carry in your pocket but certainly much less noticeable than an XT5. Personally, I don't care much about the size for the X-T5 or x100V. I care about a camera capable of fulfilling my needs. Thanks again, this has definitely put me in the right path to make that final decision in the coming weeks.
Great idea to rent it! I think I’ll forever do that in the future when making a decision on a new system. I have used the 23mm f2 and the newer 1.4 paired with the xt5 was really a step up - so if autofocus is your main concern I’d rent one of the newer AF design lenses like that one. Appreciate you watching and for the compliments, really means a lot. 🙏
@@DylanSpitz Don't stop. You are likable and truly enjoyed your video. I will do just that and rent the 1.4. I am very torn on getting away from the x100v but the more I have it around family the more I get frustrated with the shots I miss. BTW I appreciated your video as well because the camera was in very capable hands and I was able to appreciate the quality in both video and photography. New sub here!
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I'm trying to post every two weeks now, so far it's going alright. I'm pretty confident that the combo you're going to rent will solve all of your complaints - I have very similar frustrations with the x100v trying to take photos of Carl (the dog, haha). Let me know how it goes!
Hey Josian, curious how the X-T5 worked out? I jumped from the Z6ii to the A7iv and am either upgrading to an A7RV or switching to an X-H2. How improved was the AF from the Z6ii to the X-T5? It was night and day between the Z and the A7IV! The Fuji X ecosystem makes the most sense for my entire family (6 kids), so I'm considering that over the more expensive Sony price-point. Thanks!
@@cohoonatube Hey, so I made the switch. I am still getting used to the autofocus. If I am shooting portraits then its all good, no problems at all. In fact you should check a video @mannyortiz made on the comparison of the z8 vs xt5 and it was up to par. Now when it comes to working with the files, I feel the nikon was a bit easier.
Your film footage is absolutely incredible!! Please, oh please, can you kindly do a tutorial explaining how you work through it in post? It would be greatly appreciated by us amateurs! Keep these phenomenal story vids coming!
An excellent review with such exquisite examples of what can be achieved with a professional behind the camera (beautiful colour grade too!). I’m still ever so disappointed that Fuji haven’t come out with a battery grip for the X-T5 - I find it quite an essential when using my X-T3 + 50-140 (and other telephoto zooms I’ve used.) From one country boy to another; thank you very much for your wonderful content and thoughts. My warmest regards to you and yours from all the way across the pond in deepest rural Yorkshire, England
Ben, thank you for the kind words. Comments like yours give me so much encouragement to keep making videos here. Very cool that this is reaching you from across the globe! Seems like grip/ergos are the common complaint from most people with these Fuji cameras. Hopefully they can strike a better balance in the future.
This was exactly what I was looking for! I’ve had the x100v for little over a year now and was thinking of getting the xt5. So seeing how you shot and took video was perfect.
The good thing with XT5 is that you can de-couple the video and photo settings, and have your preferred video settings enabled with just the photo/video switch, and then snap back to photo recipes instantly.
Dylan, The UA-cam gods just put your channel before me...what a great find! Beautiful images. I've been out to the Oregon coast a couple of times and your images really invoke the feel of the place. I too am pondering the X-T5 as an alternative to trying to get an X100VI. (Emphasis on "trying"). ;-)
Ahhh thank you so much! Glad you found the channel. Means a lot to hear that about the images from the coast, very special place to me. Both cameras are so good, can’t go wrong!
WOW, your pictures from XT5 are very beautiful. I narrowed down to Nikon and Fuji, and you are making me to purchase Fuji. The new 40 Mp sensor colors look more vibrant and punchier than version four sensor. Awesome video, thanks for posting.
Your photos and video footage are terrific! I shoot an X-T4 and use an aftermarket base plate with a grip extension and arca Swiss tripod mounting feature. It has pluses and minuses, but will make the camera more comfortable in the hand.
I have the xt5 among others, I added a leather half case and that extra bulk was enough to make it perfect for my grip. Others put thumb rests or wooden grips to make it better for em. Also depending on your lens it does affect the balance of the camera. The fujicron lenses would be perfect for the weight balance and becomes the perfect travel camera for photo and video.
Really? I don't do video but I swear many videographers love the fujicrons, especially the 23mm f2 cause it's super silent. "Silent stepping motor" is what it's being touted. In my use, I do notice how quick and quiet it is especially compared to older Fuji lenses. Then again, to your point, to each their own.
If you put the Fuji f2 range of lenses on the xt5 then it’s much more portable and balanced, or my favourite lens the Voigtlander 35&23 Km noktons. The 23 f1.4 is quite a heavy and bulky lens. I shoot XT5 and Xpro3 and changed out my older 1.4’s for this reason.
Your video looks so smooth even when moving your camera and following your puppy. My videos seems a bit shaky at times. Trying to figure out if I have wrong settings.
As long as IBIS is on that should be the only thing settings wise - try to brace yourself when shooting handheld video, like dig those elbows into your torso and keep your hands gripped with your thumbs over the top of the camera, etc. It takes a lot of practice if you’re not used to it.
Firstly, you are insanely talented, these videos are amazing. Second, Any chance we could get a video about shooting settings/tip to get the most out of the camera? Just bought one and wanna make sure I’ve got it dialed in for photo and video.
I kept the x100v and upgraded from XT4 to 5 last week … so far love it! … If you’re still monitoring this vlog, can I asked what film sim you used … I love some of the palette and rendering! Lovely video 😊
Thanks for the kind words! I shot everything in raw actually. Processed in Lightroom. Just released my first ever preset system if you’re interested, pretty proud of it - link in the description 🫶
Great vid! My favorite set up is xt5 w/ 23mm 1.4 :) something I did was map the Record Video button to one on back of the camera! Really helped with Very Fast recording in all situations ;) . Also you can have all separate settings so you don’t have to tweak back and forth. Great video and appreciate the aesthetic inspiration! I love the photo edits! ❤ really beautiful and dreamy
I brought my Blackmagic 6k pro on a recent trip and it was an ordeal, and I thought that bringing my URSA mini would be a trudge. When I came back from that trip I bought the XT-5 coming from already loving my XE-3. I wouldn’t use XT-5 for professional video work, but as a hybrid travel camera it is indeed perfect. Bringing cinema cameras on such short personal trips means you’re having to swap batteries, worry about cables and weight, having to take things off and put them on again, so XT-5 comes as a relief.
@@kinoromantic yeahhhh it’s a lot to haul around. Makes everything you’re doing a bit less enjoyable, haha. Glad you found your solution with the X-T5!
Thank you so much for this video Dylan and all your other videos - I'm finding them so inspiring, and every new shot I see has me asking questions about your process. I'm in genuine awe at how every single shot here not only beautifully captures the mood and feel you were surely going for, but how they also cumulatively add up to an incredible portfolio bound together by a common--and gorgeous--style. As others have noted, this is so far beyond what we expect of youtube and I really, really hope we get treated to short films or things like that down the line! I have so many questions for you but if I could ask just one for this video, it would be, what white balance settings do you use? Sean Tucker stated in a recent video of his that he leaves his white balance on around 5500-5600K regardless of time of day or other conditions because he thinks this helps to best render what he as the photographer sees - would you agree with this, or where do you stand? Amazing, inspiring stuff - thank you!
First of all, wow - thank you so much for that massively kind comment. I really can't explain how encouraging it is to hear feedback like that and I truly appreciate it. As far as the white balance question - I treat it like film stocks. So I either shoot at 5600K - in any and every kind of natural light, or if im indoors or under artificial light, I use somewhere around 3200K depending on the light type (fluorescent, tungsten, etc.) Not that any of this REALLY matters, because I shoot in raw and can change it to whatever I want later, but it helps get me closer to reality faster in the edit. Hope that helps!
Aren’t the custom profiles good enough to switch from video to photo? I do agree the cameras that do it all are the X-S20 and the X-H2S, the X-T5 is photo first. And unlike the 40 megapixel models, you can still use the old F2 lenses without throwing away resolution.
@@RyanCaptureMedia from Jillian: Hi!! UA-cam deleted my comment with the links for some reason! We use the 2 Hounds Design No-Pull 1-inch harness. We've had it for probably about a year and a half (maybe longer) and it has held up really well. We always use two collars when we take Carl off-leash at places like the coast. The first one is a Fi GPS collar (series 2). It tracks steps, walks and can be used to locate a dog in an emergency situation. The other one is a mini educator e-collar. I've spent time training Carl to recall to the tone so he can roam freely. It's not for everyone, but it works for us. Hounds aren't traditionally known for their recall skills, haha. Hope that helps! All of them can be found on Amazon or probably Chewy.
So pretty! I really need help with my XT5. I've been struggling since i got it on launch. I can't nail focus, compared to my GH5 (m1 and m2). Yet I see everyone else on here get these pretty shots.
Hey, thanks! Is the AF just missing and focusing on the background or what seems to be the issue exactly? Happy to try to help troubleshoot if I can. What lens are you using when this is happening?
I’ve just discovered this and currently the X100v is my go to camera despite having a Canon 5d iv with a few lenses for landscape photography. I don’t shoot video and I am a hobbyist photographer. From watching this, I think the XT-5 would suit. I may get the same lens used in this rather than a zoom. Possibly get a telephoto prime later.
I'm considering upgrading from my Fuji X-T30 to either an X-S20 or X-T5 (need something with IBIS to improve my videos) and I think this clip has convinced me to spend the extra money on an X-T5. Great video.
Coming from the Nikon D610 & D750 (both with battery grips) to the X-T4 & 5 I had to get small rig grips for both as I needed my pinky to have someplace to sit!
Amazing video! I'm about to upgrade to an X-T5 from X-T30 & X-Pro2 and I love the video edits you've done on this. Would you ever consider doing a video of your edit work through in DaVinci? I'm a complete beginner and would love some tips on how to get the most out of F-Log!
The X-H2 (same sensor) may be the right fit for you. Better ergonomics and size, and the PASM dial and custom presets would make switching between photo and video MUCH faster.
Just found your channel and wow man, I gotta say, your images are somthing special. Idk if I've seen better from a Fuji user. As someone who uses the X-T4 full time for wedding photo and video, I'm constantly wishing I could produce an image I'm happy with. I know it's possible, I just need to keep working at it. I'll definitely be following along on your journey whether you continue with Fuji or not.

The colours in photos and videos are superb. I noticed others already told you that, but they're so good.
Thank you so much 🥹
Man, that looks like a beautiful and relaxing place. Was definitely interested in the gear, but stayed for the beautiful photos and video. Well done!
Ahh love to hear that, haha! Thanks for sticking with it and for the compliment. Really happy you enjoyed it.
I would love to see a video of your color grading process, the images and video you were able to pull form the raw files are amazing! Regardless of the chaos of your process I think we could all learn and enjoy quite a bit
Thank you so much! I have some things in the works. Early stages but it will be worth the wait 🙏
i thought this channel had like 100k subscribers or something. just by the quality of the video alone. this felt like a quick chill sesh or a hangout.. forgot i was watching a camera review. the footage was awesome, photos were fantastic...seriously, nice work. inspiring stuff and makes me want to get out and shoot again.. been a while and was looking at these cameras etc....but this helped bring down all the crazy hype and made me remember its about what camera is good for you and your purposes, not the latest and greatest....although seriously, those x100v's.......idgaf, they might be overhyped but take some damn good photos...i think its the camera of a lifetime. but i digress...
Wow, thanks so much for the positive feedback! Means a lot to hear you were inspired by it, cheers man.
get the small rig for the grip, love the dog and corn fields
Your photographs and video work are absolutely gorgeous to watch !
Thank you so much!
Hahaha you never know! Thanks for the kind words 🙏
Absolutely beautiful images and video! And super cute dog too!
Thank you so much 😀
I can watch this video all over again and still not get bored. Great content
Really lovely compliment, thank you so much. ☺️
Awesome video that made me really consider my gear needs and choices! Your photos are simply beautiful and a joy to look at! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it ❤️
the video footage you've captured and graded is beautiful, I could watch a movies worth of it
Wow, thank you so much for saying that. Really means a lot to me 🙏🥹
Love your work man one of my fvrt yt
Really appreciate that! Thanks for the support 🫶
Just found your channel and have watched several videos already. Really good stuff! Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
An excellent review with such exquisite examples of what can be achieved with a professional behind the camera (beautiful colour grade too!).
I’m still ever so disappointed that Fuji haven’t come out with a battery grip for the X-T5 - I find it quite an essential when using my X-T3 + 50-140 (and other telephoto zooms I’ve used.)
From one country boy to another; thank you very much for your wonderful content and thoughts.
Thank you Ben! Glad you enjoyed it.
The good thing with XT5 is that you can de-couple the video and photo settings, and have your preferred video settings enabled with just the photo/video switch, and then snap back to photo recipes instantly.
Yup
Colour grading of your video clips is awesome, looks like a movie from hollywood
Wow, thank you so much! 😀
Such a joy watching your video and photography while explaining your experience with the Xt5.
Thank you so much 🙏
very underated channel
Thanks Harry.
Your color grading is phenomenal
Thank you so much!
mad video! love that desk setup dude, just beautiful!
Appreciate that!
The video footage is what really looked good in this video my goodness
Ah thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Honestly I think this video is more of a testament to the xf23mm f1.4 R WR than the X-T5!
Loved this video with sample photos. It made me miss Washington so much. Thank you for sharing!
So glad to hear that! Washington is indeed beautiful. Appreciate the comment.
Great video, Dylan. I really enjoyed that, and the photos/video were awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a ton!
Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Good to see a video about photography and the process, rather than tech gear.
Thanks so much for the kind words, very encouraging to hear.
Lovely images mate, criminally love amount if subscribers!
Really means a ton, haha. Appreciate the help getting that number up ⬆️
WOW, your pictures from XT5 are very beautiful. I narrowed down to Nikon and Fuji, and you are making me to purchase Fuji. The new 40 Mp sensor colors look more vibrant and punchier than version four sensor. Awesome video, thanks for posting.
Really appreciate the kind words! Means a lot. Hard to go wrong with any of these new cams coming out - they are all so good!
I love the treatment to your photos and footage. very inspiring.
Thank you!
Love my XT5 but it’s definitely worth buying the grip extension
Such a great camera. Yeah, it seems like that's the solution for a lot of folks!
Your photos and video footage are terrific! I shoot an X-T4 and use an aftermarket base plate with a grip extension and arca Swiss tripod mounting feature. It has pluses and minuses, but will make the camera more comfortable in the hand.
Thank you for the compliment! Seems like additional grips are quite popular with this line of cameras.
Beautifully filmed and edited video. Love the photos as well! ❤❤
Thank you so much!
Excited to get mine today. Dope video!
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Stepping focus motor is a dealbreaker for video for me. But to each their own.
These photos and videos look so incredible!!!
Thank you so much! Really happy you like them.
Really enjoyed this video, thanks Dylan. Love the grade and images🙌
Means so much, thank you!
Breathtaking. Really like your shot at 9:48.
Ah thank you so much, appreciate you watching!
Try the 23 f2. makes the xt5 feel great and a little less bulky, however i love the 23 1.4 too
beautiful photos btw!
Those shots are fire man. Great work!
Glad you like them! Thanks!
I’ve used both, I prefer the newer 1.4 particularly for pulling focus in video.
An enjoyable presentation of the XT-5 and many really very nice images in there too. Looks good!
Really appreciate that! Thanks 🙏
Firstly, you are insanely talented, these videos are amazing. Second, Any chance we could get a video about shooting settings/tip to get the most out of the camera? Just bought one and wanna make sure I’ve got it dialed in for photo and video.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I actually never bought the XT5, so it probably isn’t likely haha.
Thanks, Jason! Great little combo for sure. Glad you enjoyed the photos 👊
Amazing video. I just picked up an X-T5 and I am extremely inspired!
Would you consider sharing your lightroom editing process?
Really appreciate that! Happy you enjoyed it. I might do that at some point…
Jesus!!! This is just phenomenal!
Ahh thank you so much! Too kind 🙏
Damn man these shots are amazing! Enjoyed your video a lot, keep it up!
Thank you! Really fun trip 🫶
Dope as always! Love that intro track 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Dennis! Glad you dig it.
Maaaan your photos were so so good! Beautiful.
Thank you so much!
absolutely fantastic images and editing, super inspiring! :)
Thank you so much, Tomas!
The footage looks amazing!!!
Thank you!
You definitely need to bring out a LUT Pack .. your colors are breath taking bro
I appreciate that! You never know 👀
@@DylanSpitz pls let me know. Just bought my own XT-5 mainly because of your video.
Any chance you could create affiliate links and an explanation to the collars and harness your dog is wearing? Looks like a nice set up.
Putting Jillian on the case! Haha, she is the animal mom expert. Stay tuned…
WooHoo! Thank you, thank you!
@@RyanCaptureMedia from Jillian:
Hi!!
@@DylanSpitz SUUUUUPER Helpful! Thank you so much! I'm gonna check it out! And thank you for all of your channel content!
really nice, would love to have a ligthroom tutorial from you, your color grading is insane
Noted! Thanks so much for the kind words. Have a great day!
Man love the colors and the composition
on the opening shots
Thanks Sumon!
You made a good point, I actually got something out of this. Thanks for posting the clip.
Glad it was helpful!
Possibly get a telephoto prime later.
super useful real world experience conclusion. Thanks Dylan.
Appreciate that, thanks for watching!
I’ve slapped a JJC grip onto my xt5 and have never looked back. Would highly recommend.
Great video, love the authenticity of everything.
Thanks so much, Chase. The hardest part of UA-cam for me is being in front of the camera, so it’s really nice to hear that.
Wow the beauty you got out of this camera, especially on video. Really makes me want to upgrade 😩
It’s a solid little camera! Very capable. What do you shoot now?
@@DylanSpitz Still on the Xs10! Which I do like for the price, but I'm itching to film 10bit
10-bit is a game changer.
I'm considering upgrading from my Fuji X-T30 to either an X-S20 or X-T5 (need something with IBIS to improve my videos) and I think this clip has convinced me to spend the extra money on an X-T5. Great video.
Appreciate the kind words! Hope you enjoy the new camera 🫶
Coming from the Nikon D610 & D750 (both with battery grips) to the X-T4 & 5 I had to get small rig grips for both as I needed my pinky to have someplace to sit!
haha, I totally understand why!
Thank you! Maybe…
Stunning stuff!
Thank you! Cheers!
The X-H2 (same sensor) may be the right fit for you. Better ergonomics and size, and the PASM dial and custom presets would make switching between photo and video MUCH faster.
I just love the physical dials for personal work, but you're right that camera looks solid and powerful. Would love to try one out sometime.
Dylan. Beautiful pictures. Where is this road trip.? Im planning my next vacation and this roap trip look amazing. Thanks for any infirmation.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Mostly the Oregon coast, with a quick stop in Seattle.
@@DylanSpitz Thanks...🙏🏻
Just found your channel and wow man, I gotta say, your images are somthing special. Idk if I've seen better from a Fuji user. As someone who uses the X-T4 full time for wedding photo and video, I'm constantly wishing I could produce an image I'm happy with. I know it's possible, I just need to keep working at it. I'll definitely be following along on your journey whether you continue with Fuji or not.
Wow, thank you so much! That is so awesome to hear. I have fun shooting all types of camera systems, so we'll have some variety coming up, haha. Really appreciate the support and kind words. Cheers!
