Just keep that in mind while you're discovering their awesomeness ❤️ Side note- they are 3 time Grammy winners (Daft Punk Medley, Jolene featuring Dolly Parton & Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy)... They won in a category that was created for them...
Welcome to PTX from me, a Pentaholic. If you want to see a their live performance of the cover "Gold" by Kiiara, it will show you what they can do. That one is an older video and the bass singer has changed. Otherwise the singers are the same. They've been together for 10 years, winning a contest on TV called the Sing Off in 2011. Those performances are also live and can show you how they started. There are 13 performances, live of the Sing Off Show where they sang.
Wanted to second the idea that you listen to their cover of Gold next but make sure you know the original first for the full appreciation of what they do with it.
Check out "Daft punk mix private performance", no microphones, recorded with a cell phone camera 😉 Daft punk won them their first Grammy award. Maybe you can do a double reaction with the official video as well.
How they started - the three 'lead' singers were friends in middle/highschool. They separated when Kirsten (the girl) and Scott (blond guy) (who were a year ahead of Mitch (high pitch guy)) graduated. Scott found about an acapella competition show (The Sing Off) from a friend in college, and wanted to compete so he got Kirstie and Mitch. The friend also recommended he add a bass and beatboxer - Avi (their original bass, not in this video) had a good reputation as a bass so I think the friend recommended him. Kevin (the beatboxer, wearing the white jacket and blue shirt look) had a video on UA-cam of himself playing cello and beatboxing that Scott saw and decided he was the one for the group. All five of them met in person the day before their audition for the show lol.
Kirstin and Mitch have been friends since they were 8 years old. Scott became friends with them when he and Kirstin were 14 and mitch was 13. They all loved to sing and formed a trio.
Ben Bram can be seen AS the Mr, Grinch, while Matt has the lead vocal "Mr. Grinch" in a Live/Stage performance in a great Grinch costume. He has also been a strong 'Silent Member' & was on stage for the the initial Grammy Award for Daft Punk. Ben's also a video production wizard. Be careful NOT to confuse him w/the new Ben, Kirstie's Husband (& the New Girl Baby Daddy w/Kristie)
I HIGHLY recommend their Evolution of Rihanna (or any medley really... Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, etc but Rihanna is my fave). They are all shot in one take and you can really tell how the group is broken down and who is responsible for what part
Also… there is auto-tune in this video for Do You Believe, strictly as a tribute to Cher who is credited with first using auto-tune stylistically. Their other videos don’t have auto-tune enhancements.
Go for broke, Sound of Silence. They have over 150+ songs and videos, both covers and originals. Best way to chose is print off there discography, tape it to the wall and throw a dart. Cant miss with any of them. You too will become a Pentaholic soon. Just subscribed and thanks for your reaction
Live versions you can watch are Hallelujah from their Xmas special, Sound of Silence from the Jimmy Kimmel Show; Aha! Singapore (taken from a "camera" phone) and Coffee in Bed (original song) on the Late Late Show. Enjoy!
I loved your reaction and have subscribed! Here’s a little info on the group. Scott, mostly songs baritone, but also has a huge range, can sing tenor and takes over the bass line when the bass singer is singing. Matt sings bass. He joined the group in 2017 when the original bass singer, Avi, left. This is the only change in the group’s history. The only female, Kirstin sings mezzo-soprano. She changes her hair color a lot so a lot of people don’t always recognize her in other videos, but it is her! Mitch is a tenor and can sing very high. He also changes his appearance a lot. Hair is different in almost every video. If you think it’s a new guy, it’s not. It’s Mitch with the voice of an angel. Kevin, is the beat boxer of the group, but he also has a beautiful tenor voice, can play the cello and saxophone, speaks mandarin, and graduated pre-med from Yale. The group sings original music as well as covers. Most of them also have solo music. For music that shows their talent without any production you can watch: Daft punk medley cell phone camera footage. This was filmed at a private VIP performance. They have a deep DEEP catalogue of covers and original music because they’ve been around for a literal decade (they just celebrated their ten year anniversary) so you have plenty to choose from. You want live performances, check out Pop Spring which features their original songs, also check out their Evolution of Rihanna and Evolution of Ariana Grande. But as for studio songs, my favorites are Mad World, Amazing Grace, The Sound of Silence, Dreams, New Rules x Are You That Somebody, and La La Latch (that’s just a few from my top ten). And they just released another original album, though there are no videos for them, my favorites are Bored and Exit Signs.
welcome to the ptx rabbithole! there is a live version of Hallelujah that is just the same as the video. New Rules x Are You that Somebody is my personal favorite. Havana, Sound of Silence, Can you feel the love tonight, Amazing Grace, Can't Hold Us are all excellent too
OOO OOO OOO! I have the perfect idea! Watch and react to their Daft Punk Medley official video and then immediately, in the same reaction video, watch their “Daft Punk Off Mic Private Performance” (filmed on an iPhone). You’ll get a side by side show of how they translate their songs live. It’s 🤯🔥
Just know as you explore this group, there has only been one personnel change. The bass in this, Matt, replaced the original bass, Avi. Also note, the girl, Kirsten, and Mitch, the guy with the high voice, are like chameleons and change their look often. There are a lot of live videos of them. Enjoy.
Scott, the blonde, Kirstie (the girl), and Mitch, guy with high voice have been friends since middle school. Kevin the beat boxer was found on UA-cam for doing something he created, Cello-boxing, Yes he plays Cello. Matt, the bass, is the only non original member he took Avi Kaplan 's place and has been fantastic. Scott got them together for the show the Sing Off..which they won and boom 10 years later and 3 Grammy's and over 5 BILLION views they continue to roll. It's a deep rabbit hole....come on in...
Check out their covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Daft Punk, Sound of Silence, Amazing Grace, Mary Did You Know, Halillujah. You won't go wrong with anything they do
Live performances you can look up from then is live on 24/7 with love again, hallelujah with the Christmas special, any of their evolution videos, gold, somebody that I used to know, there are plenty of other live ones as well. And yes they sound like their studio recordings
For a really good live video try their Popspring 2016 performance. It was filmed by MTV, so it's good quality. They do three of their original songs, plus their Evolution of Michael Jackson, which is awesome! Give it a go!
Ok - Pentaholic here and you earned a new sub based solely on the comment "...unless they crashed in Roswell...this is what the government kept from us!?!" I've heard people refer to them as aliens or not of this world - but that my sir, wins my sub!!! Looking forward to more PTX reactions!
Pentatonix (aka PTX) is a five member acapella group. Three of the members, Scott, Kirstin and Mitch, knew each other from high school. They formed the group in 2011 adding Avi (bass) and Kevin (beatboxer). They auditioned, competed and won season 3 of the television show The Sing-Off. They've won multiple music awards over the years including three Grammys. Four of the original 5 members are still with the group. Avi decided to leave in 2017 and was replaced by Matt. Known for their covers of pop songs, they also have two albums of original material, one just released in 2021 (The Lucky Ones). They also have several Christmas albums in their catalog. consisting of covers and original material. Their 'instrumental' sounds are created by Kevin, their very talented beatboxer along with baselines performed by Avi, Matt and Scott. Performing primarily as an acapella group, they occasionally introduce instruments such as piano (played by Scott) and cello (played by Kevin). They've also included vocals and instrumentals played by featured guests. Even though they perform together as a five-member group, they have individual works worth investigating. Their enthusiastic fan base, often referred to as Pentaholics, can provide more details. Ask and they will respond. Enjoy!.
New sub here! PTX has so many videos, and you will be amazed with all of them. Their Evolution of Michael Jackson(with original bass Avi), Sound of Silence (with newest bass Matt, whom you saw in this video), And their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody are just a few fan favorites.
I am so glad that you liked this video. It is a great introduction to PTX (Pentatonix). If you wish to continue down the PTX rabbit hole, then I have a few suggestions. Many people have many favorites in many different categories. "Daft Punk", "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" and "Jolene" are the three songs they won Grammys for. For covers try "Sound of Silence" (Simon and Garfunkle), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), and "Imagine" (John Lennon). For original pieces I recommend "Sing", "Happy Now", or "Love Again". Oh and just so you don't get confused on future reactions, there has only been one member change in the 10 years they have been together.
I love your reaction. As a long-time Pentaholic, I enjoy vicariously re-living this discovery process. They get better and better song by song. I will enjoy going on this journey with you. You truly can't go wrong, but I want you to watch "The Sound of Silence," "Say Something," "Imagine," and "Mary, Did You Know" (my "virgin" PTX experience) to hear the most amazing harmonies you've ever heard. Of course I could say this applies to all their songs.
Checkout their video of Daft Punk medley, also a private perform of that song shot by cellphone. The older videos will have the original bass singer Avi Kaplan, who left & got replaced with the current one you saw in a blue jacket. The new bass "Matt" was handpicked by the previous bass.
Nicholas Hart, Matt was not handpicked by Avi. Matt auditioned, along with other bass singers. He went to the final audition well prepared and had learned all of Pentatonix songs. His voice, personality and work ethic won the job for him. Matt knew Ben, yet he still had to audition.
@@NicholasAHart Yeah, Avi picking Matt is one of those fables that keeps on going. There was no way Avi would pick a singer for a group that he was no longer a part of. The others could do that for themselves.
New sub here! And fellow Pentaholic. I'm sure you'll get a flood of comments giving you a complete history of PTX. They've won 3 Grammys to date (should've been more) and are the number one A capella...imo. Anything from them is killer. I would suggest New Rules x Are You That Somebody. It's complete fire 🔥
List of some Pentatonix Bangers: Attention New Rules x Are you that somebody Daft Punk Medley Can't Hold Us Havana Gold (Live performance) Ride (Live performance) Can't wait to see more! Thanks for the fun reaction.
They did add some effects to this to pay homage to the 90s sound. But they’re usually fairly transparent when they add a lot of production in their videos.
Nice reaction. You need to watch their cover called Gold. It’s live and they are all sitting down and you can see everything each person does. One take!
Welcome to the rabbit hole of incredible a capella music! Pentatonix truly is the best of the best. Scott (blonde), Kirsti (female), and Mitch (singer with the high voice) were high school friends. They wanted to audition for the a capella competition show called The Sing Off in 2011, but the group minimum was 5. They found Avi through a mutual friend and Kevin (beat boxer) on UA-cam from a video of his that went viral. They ended up winning the show and received $200,000 and a record deal. They got dropped by the record company not long after since they had no idea how to market them. Not wanting to give up on their dream, Pentatonix took to UA-cam, growing their fan base, and finally got signed. Post-production (layering vocals, reverb, etc.) in their recordings is minimal, but they pride themselves in never putting out a song they can't perform live. Since this video is their newest one, you should know that Matt (the bass--first singer in the Cher song) replaced Avi (long-haired with beard) when he left the group in 2017 due to personal reasons. Both are phenomenal and bring different things to the group. As for what to watch next... there are too many good ones. A few of my favorites include: COVERS: Can't Hold Us, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, Break My Heart, New Rules + Are You That Somebody, Gold (live) Attention, Can You Feel the Love Tonight (from The Lion King), Say Something (Kirstin lead), Despacito x Shape of You, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (2nd Grammy win), Havana, La La Latch, Radioactive ft. Lindsey Stirling, Home (medley), Blinding Lights, Jolene ft. Dolly Parton (3rd Grammy win), Mad World, Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone), My Favorite Things (from Sound of Music--Kirsten lead), and the rest of their live evolution medleys. ORIGINALS: Love Again, Can't Sleep Love, Sing, Cracked, Love Me When You Don't, Water (Kirstin lead), Coffee in Bed, Bored, Never Gonna Cry Again, A Little Space, It's Different Now (Kirstin lead), The Lucky Ones... Then ALL of their Christmas music!! 🎄🎶I
You are about to go down a WORM HOLE of awesomeness! My favorites by them are Amazing Grace, Daft Punk, Somebody that I Used to Know, Say Something, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, Havana, Sound of Silence and Can You Feel the Love Tonight! They have TONS of live and candid videos of them singing.
Pentaholic here 🙋🏻. Loved your reaction, looking forward to more!! Keep in mind, they formed in 2011 as a group of five and since then there has only been ONE member change (the bass). Two of the members change there looks constantly, but the only member change has been the bass, in 2017. Have fun!!!!
welcome to the wonderful world of pentatonix. First a brief history. they won the show sing off i believe in 2011. also the original members included mitch, kirsten, scott, kevin(beat boxer) and avi (bass)...avil left after a few yrs to take care of his ailing mother and couldn't tour as much so avi helped pentatonix find their current bass (matt). They are 98% acapella but they do have some videos with kevin who also plays the cello. They've won 3 grammys for their covers of daft punk, dance of the sugar plum fairies, jolene w/ dolly parton. Other covers are bohemian rhapsody(quite simply the best cover of that classic rock song), wizard of ahhhs (a montage of 16 songs made to tell the story of the wizard of oz), mad world, royals, hallelujah, sounds of silence, radioactive, imagine, god rest ye merry gentlemen, little drummer boy, gold, problem, say something, attention, cant hold us....there are so many great covers...too many to list..but this is a start. They also do originals...some include...sing, love again, happy now, love me when i dont, coffee in bed, be my eyes, a little space and the lucky ones. also they made an album during the pandemic recorded entirely in their own homes...recorded seperately thru zoom and mixed.. each of the parts they sang they did without hearing the other members doing their parts....songs include home, blinding lights, break my heart, dreams, when the party's over. Please do more pentatonix reactions. thanks and be safe in these troubled times
If you want to see them at their purest check out their journey on the Tv show The Sing Off? It's a singing competition talent show for a capella groups! They won the competition and their first performance is their first ever live performance as a group! They had only all met a few weeks prior and had only sang together a few times! From their first performance they blew away everyone and just grew and just became incredible!
BRO!!!! Welcome to PTX. This is aDEEEEP rabbit hole. They are incredible. I think you'll dig em. Can't wait for your reactions. They have an amazing catalogue. Buckle up!!! (They are just as amazing live)
"The 90's had the best music..." No matter what decade you grew up in you think that. For me it's the rock of the 70's even though I loved a lot of the 80's I was grown. You actually listen to a lot of the stuff I grew up with.
As far as something Raw. The first time they ever performed was on the “The Sing Off”, NBC, they don’t get much Rawer than that! That’s where the magic of this group began. I watched it as it happened, been a fan ever since!
Pentatonix started as Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado and Mitch Grassi, "The Trio". The three went to Martin High School in Arlington, Texas and were in choirs and drama groups together. They originally arranged a trio version of Telephone by Lady Gaga and Beyoncé to enter a radio competition to meet the cast of Glee.
If you want something a bit similar from PTX then Daft Punk is a medley of (not desperately surprisingly) Daft Punk music. For truly insane beatboxing and bass - their original, Love Again will blow your mind.
Dear PTX: I love you. Thanks for the astonishing sampler plate. Now may we be served the main course--Your '90s Dance Album! Of course I'm of an age where I'd want you to cover a few earlier decades as well.
if you want to see camera footage, I recommend Aha singapore live at the star vista. Avi (not in this vid, left in 2017) sings so low he nearly breaks the speakers and mitch pops off. It's known as the pinnacle of their live performances
Here are some more A Capella groups you should check out. Voiceplay "The Oogie Boogie Song", Home Free "Man Of Constant Sorrow", Peter Hollens "Disney Villains Medley" and Acapop Kids "Fix You", founded by Scott Hoying of Pentatonix (the blonde guy here). One thing you should know is that Kirstin and Mitch are constantly changing their appearance, but they are steady members.
Great reaction! It's especially fun when the reactor knows a lot of the songs. For future reactions: PTX Bohemian Rhapsody, PTX Imagine, Kevin Olusola Down (solo project by the beatboxer), and PTX New Rules/Are You That Somebody. Note: The original line up of 5 singers had a different bass, Avi Kaplan, so some of these videos will include him. Since 2017 the bass is Matt Sallee, including in this video. That's the only change from when they formed in 2011. Looking forward to more PTX reactions.
Mitch, Scott and Kirsten grew up together in Austin. They sang in choir and musicals together. Think they met when they were 10. They graduated (Mitch was younger by a year) and Scott went to USC. He saw the Sing Off competition and called Mitch and Kirsten to get them on board. They added Avi (later Matt) as a bass and Kevin as the beat boxer. They won the Sing Off and a record deal. A friend of theirs named Ben does the arrangements with them. Not sure how they found him.
Bro!!! So glad you just found the Pentatonix!! Welcome to the rabbit hole. PLEEEEAAAASE check out their Evolution of Music next. It goes back to nearly the beginning you’ll see a sharp contrast of where they started VS where they are now. I drank the Pentahol-Koolaid way back when and I’ve been a huge fan ever since!! You’re gonna live these guys man!
You can watch their "Daft Punk Medley" official video and then there is a video of at a m=Meet and Greet and it sounds the same except for volume because it was without mics
Well now you’ve done it- nothing Pentaholics like better than a virgin reactor! Nothing you check out from them will go unnoticed or unliked and I suggest you start with some of their covers or their ‘evolution of’ medleys. Enjoy the journey!
Virgin reactor! LOL!
I completely agree!
The YT algorithms look after Pentaholics ;p
Yep, I hope he check's out their live performance when Avi blew out the sound system because he went too low.
Love virgin reactions!!

Enjoy!.
Ok first watch their main Daft Punk video (their first Grammy) then there is a greenroom performance of that. Your brain may explode.
Check out Sound of Silence and Bohemian Rhapsody
Unreal! On fire! You got that right. That’s PTX for you and just call us Pentaholics. Welcome aboard!
Please ignore my comment above acting like this was my own brilliant idea instead of the fact that you literally posted this 😂😂😂
Yeah I was told different, so I guessed I never questioned it.
@@NicholasAHart Yeah, Avi picking Matt is one of those fables that keeps on going. There was no way Avi would pick a singer for a group that he was no longer a part of. The others could do that for themselves.
PTX virgin videos are always the best finds. And yes, 90s/ early 2000s is the best music
I love watching a Penta-Virgin. 😁💖
Me too! It's so fun!
So glad you found Pentatonix also known as PTX. You won't be sorry! I sub you!
You can listen to *all* their music. You'll never know what you're going to listen, but they are masterworks, none of them is less. Try La La Latch
List of some Pentatonix Bangers:

New Rules x Are you that somebody
Daft Punk Medley
Can't Hold Us
Havana
Gold (Live performance)
Ride (Live performance)
Can't wait to see more! Thanks for the fun reaction.
I love them and they are for sure a phenomenon. They always make my mood better and my heart lighter. They have something for everyone!
Hallelujah bohemian Rhapsody sound of silence 🔥🔥🔥man they good the best acapella group at round got the last 10 years
They did add some effects to this to pay homage to the 90s sound. But they’re usually fairly transparent when they add a lot of production in their videos.
Nice reaction. You need to watch their cover called Gold. It’s live and they are all sitting down and you can see everything each person does. One take!
Now that’s what I call music 😂 🤣 90’s will live forever!!! Shout out Jock Jams 😂
A few of my favorites include:
COVERS:
Can't Hold Us, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, Break My Heart, New Rules + Are You That Somebody, Gold (live) Attention, Can You Feel the Love Tonight (from The Lion King), Say Something (Kirstin lead), Despacito x Shape of You, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (2nd Grammy win), Havana, La La Latch, Radioactive ft.
ORIGINALS:
Love Again, Can't Sleep Love, Sing, Cracked, Love Me When You Don't, Water (Kirstin lead), Coffee in Bed, Bored, Never Gonna Cry Again, A Little Space, It's Different Now (Kirstin lead), The Lucky Ones...
Please do more pentatonix reactions. thanks and be safe in these troubled times
try their live on stage performance of "hallelujah" and you'll see that whatever they do in a video , they can do onstage in front of an audience
I suggest the cover of Shallow they did!! very beautiful!!
Just found this reaction (I have watched a lot of your PTX reactions). We always love to find the 1st time people hear PTX.
Check out their cover of bohemian rapsody.
Check out their live version of Hallelujah. They’re the real deal.
Pick almost anything Pentatonix does and it will bring out emotion. Mostly smiles, but a lot of goosebumps and chills.
There are so many songs that are awesome! Just dive in. 🥰
Big Shiny Tunes!!!!! Every one of those CDs were fire!!!
You want live? Pentatonix started in an acapella singing contest called "The Sing Off." All of their performances are on UA-cam.
For live, watch their sing-off performances, their evolutions, or just type Pentatonix Live.
BRO!!!! Welcome to PTX. This is aDEEEEP rabbit hole. They are incredible. I think you'll dig em. Can't wait for your reactions. They have an amazing catalogue. Buckle up!!! (They are just as amazing live)
You HAVE to watch their cover of gold. It’s a live performance and it’s amazing
"The 90's had the best music..." No matter what decade you grew up in you think that. For me it's the rock of the 70's even though I loved a lot of the 80's I was grown. You actually listen to a lot of the stuff I grew up with.
enjoy your trip down the pentatonix rabbit hole. the 3 main singers Mitch, Scott and Kirsten grew up together in austin tx.
You can get all your answers by catching them at the Sing-off competition they won. This is their beginning. Prepare to have your 🤯
As far as something Raw. The first time they ever performed was on the “The Sing Off”, NBC, they don’t get much Rawer than that! That’s where the magic of this group began. I watched it as it happened, been a fan ever since!
Phone footage: Aha, Live, Star Vista in Singapore.
Live: Hallelujah from their Christmas TV special.
Live: Daft Punk, Private Performance.
I remember those commercials Now that what I call music, bringing me back to the 90s lol
THIS IS AWESOME.. Check out their version of Sound Of Silence -- you will be blown away
Dear PTX: I love you. Thanks for the astonishing sampler plate. Now may we be served the main course--Your '90s Dance Album! Of course I'm of an age where I'd want you to cover a few earlier decades as well.
Welcome the the rabbit hole.....and one of the best fan bases anywhere. Just have fun and enjoy!
They competed on the show The Sing Off and won. They originated from Arlington, Tx
I about fell over laughing at your reaction to first hearing PTX!🤣🤣🤣
Can't hold us
if you want to see camera footage, I recommend Aha singapore live at the star vista. Avi (not in this vid, left in 2017) sings so low he nearly breaks the speakers and mitch pops off. It's known as the pinnacle of their live performances
I have been watching all your reactions… and must have missed your “virgin” reaction… down the PTX rabbit hole in such a short time!!! Love it!!!!
They grew up together in Arlington, TX.
If you really want to see their vocal range and talent, you've got to watch their cover of "The Sound Of Silence". It's insane
Welcome to PTX land... they won the show the sing off in about 2011. They have been around forever
Type in ‘pentatonix at the airport’ there is phone footage of them doing ‘thrift shop’ over the intercom!
Try "Daft Punk" by Pentatonix bro. Love your reaction video!
I'm here for the PTX reactions! Love your enthusiasm!
You can watch their "Daft Punk Medley" official video and then there is a video of at a m=Meet and Greet and it sounds the same except for volume because it was without mics
They’ve been friends since they were ❤️8 yrs old. Went to School together. HS choir…..
