They were very young when this came out. Kirsty is the same and Mitch is the same but Mitch especially is always changing his looks and also as he went along and got older he lost a lot of weight but than gained a bit back so he looks to be a healthy weight now. Maybe just more comfortable in his skin now and more confident in himself. Also with the pandemic and not touring, he had a chance to relax and catch up with himself and try some new music. I know I'm late to the party, but I had to bring this up, cuz I just saw it this morning. There's a version of this particular medley floating around youtube that's just the five of them in a room, chopping it up, with zero edits or post-production, that apparently takes place at some kind of private function. They hit all the cuts, fades, and drops, just like in the studio recording track that backs this video. It's absolutely on-point. 100% worth its own separate reaction, if you haven't already seen it.
Recorded on a cell phone so there is no production behind the music at all. Unfortunately it doesn't pick up the bass or much of the beatboxing but you can see that all the things that looked like effects in the official video we're not effects. That was them all doing it with their voices. They are just amazing! I have tickets to see them in LA in September 2022 and I just can't wait!
The beatboxer Kevin is a genius. Not only is he a world class beatboxer he plays the cello and saxophone. He created celloboxing which he does on a few videos that combines playing the cello and beat boxing at the same time. He was just starting to med school when the saw his videos and snagged him up...the rest is history!

I thought the same about Kirstie's makeup. She's like a cross between an Avatar character and Bjork (just look at a photo if you're not familiar) - the makeup in this video makes Kirstie's facial features look super-delicate and angled like Bjork's.
The only change with PTX has been with their bassist: Avi Kaplan left the group in 2017, but he also helped with the group in finding his replacement Matt Sallee. This has been the only member change in the history of Pentatonix.

Thank you so much for reacting to this video. I knew that you would love it! Some fun facts: Avi is indeed the only member who has left the group, and it was on good terms. He was replaced by Matt. This video earned them a much deserved Grammy, which was made back when Mitch, the youngest member of the group, was just 21 years old! He was a baby back then, but oh so talented! When Mitch does his thing, it’s called getting Mitch slapped! But my point is that he is now 31, and has grown up in his face. He and Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) change up their appearances kinda regularly. Mitch, Kirstie and Scott have been friends since high school. They added Avi and Kevin to their group when they wanted to compete on the Sing-Off, which they won, of course. See, you had to have a minimum of five people in your group to compete. Avi did not help pick Matt. Matt auditioned along with other bass singers. He came to the final audition well prepared, having learned all of Pentatonix songs. His voice, personality and work ethic won the job for him. Avi was not involved.

Real quick comment to catch you up: Mitch (first guy introduced), Scott (second guy introduced), Avi (third guy introduced, also the only one who left the group to start his own band. He was then replaced by Matt who was the African-American guy all the way to the left in the "Sound of Silence" video), Kirstie (the woman who gets brought in fourth), and finally Kevin (introduced fifth. He's the one who does the beat-boxing/percussion sounds)
Actually Avi didn't leave to start his own band, per se. He was burnt out on the incessant touring and his mother was very ill with cancer. He had done an EP while still with PTX (they were all doing their solo projects then), released it right after he announced his departure, then went on a hiatus (some say because of a clause in the severance deal), and came out with his first original solo single, "Change on the Rise" in March 2019, on the same day PTX released "Come Along".

OK, if you want to become one of the millions of worldwide Pentaholics, you have to learn their names...here'are some clues to help you remember their names... Scott Hoying (Tall Blond) is a Baritone, but covers Bass, when Bass sings...with smooth voice referred to as "Butter Scott" Mitch Grassi is a Counter Tenor...is referred to as "Mitch with the Pitch" Kirstin (Kirstie) Maldonaldo is a Mezzo Tenor is referred to as "Kirstie makes you Thirsty" Avi Kaplan is a Bass, and makes the group "Basses" on him.. He started with Pentatonix at their beginning in 2011, but left in late 2017 because of their insane traveling/performing (and needed time to help family)....He was replaced by Matt Sallee, a Bass with huge range Kevin Olusalo ("KO") is the BeatBoxer, but is probably the musical genius of the group (although all are multi-TALENTED). He also sings, plays 4-5 instruments (mostly Cello), graduated from Yale and admitted to their medical school, but chose Pentatonix...also learned to speak Mandarin. They all have continued to change their outfits, their looks, hair, etc...but Avi is the ONLY one that left group.
Mitch, Scott and Kirstie, the first 3 to sing have been there since the beginning (10 years). They may look different, because they have been doing this for 10 years, but the voices don't change. This was the original group, consisting of Scott Hoying (tall blonde guy, silver hair in this video), a baritone with a five-to-six octave range; Avi Kaplan (dark beard and cornrows), true basso profundo, but also with an impressive range; Mitch Grassi (short dark hair, a chameleon who's look changes in almost every video), a super rare contra-tenor who can hit some mind-blowing high notes; Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado (the only female member and also quite the chameleon herself), mezzo-soprano with the voice of an angel; and Kevin 'K.O." Olusola, (wearing the goggles in this video because his eyes couldn't handle the contacts), one of the best beatboxers in the world who is also a world class cellist (plays cello in some of their songs) and has a beautiful tenor singing voice, speaks at least four languages, graduated pre-med from Yale but put his medical career on hold to join Pentatonix. They've had only one membership change. Avi left the group in the fall of 2017. He was experiencing some personal issues with burnout and trouble keeping up with the band's exhaustive schedule, plus his mother was very ill at the time. He took about a year off from the music business, then returned with a truly amazing solo career. He also helped find his replacement Matt Sallee, who joined as a temporary member at the end of 2017, then became the full-time bass singer in March of 2018.
You commented about changes within the group. As it happens, both Mitch (tenor) and Kirstie (mezzo-soprano) will change their "look" from time to time. Hey, when you're that talented, who cares how you look anyway?
Mitch started out skinny little guy then gained a good amount of weight and it showed in his face. He then lost the weight and back to super skinny. The woman Kirsten looks similar but as she has grown up from a young teenager to a beautiful woman--she has matured immensely to where she looks virtually different from before but not. Beatboxer, Kevin Olusola looks the same over the last 8 years. Avi was original base and was replaced by Matt Sallie.

Thank you so much for reacting to this video. I knew that you would love it! Some fun facts: Avi is indeed the only member who has left the group, and it was on good terms. He was replaced by Matt. This video earned them a much deserved Grammy, which was made back when Mitch, the youngest member of the group, was just 21 years old! He was a baby back then, but oh so talented! When Mitch does his thing, it’s called getting Mitch slapped! But my point is that he is now 31, and has grown up in his face. He and Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) change up their appearances kinda regularly. Mitch, Kirstie and Scott have been friends since high school. They added Avi and Kevin to their group when they wanted to compete on the Sing-Off, which they won, of course. See, you had to have a minimum of five people in your group to compete. Pentatonix gets part of their name from the number five (penta, as in pentagon, pentagram, etc). Anyway, I hope that you enjoy going down this rabbit hole that is the Pentatonix playlist! Their faithful Pentaholics will come along for the ride!
Mitch and Kristin change their appearance a lot. Only one change was Avi to Matt and Avi helped pick his replacement. We understand your confusion and welcome to the rabbit hole. They won their first grammy for Daff Punk and they filmed it in the kitchen and closet.
Avi did not help pick Matt. Matt auditioned along with other bass singers. He came to the final audition well prepared, having learned all of Pentatonix songs. His voice, personality and work ethic won the job for him. Avi was not involved.
Correct there has only been one member change. Mitch and Kirstie are always changing their looks. Avi left in 2017 and Matt replaced him. I can't wait to see you react to Imagine and Mad World. And some of their original songs as well
Mitch & Kirstie change their looks constantly, but it's ALWAYS them. The only member change has been Avi (left in late 2017) being replaced by Matt (in early 2018).

Real quick comment to catch you up: Mitch (first guy introduced), Scott (second guy introduced), Avi (third guy introduced, also the only one who left the group to start his own band. He was then replaced by Matt who was the African-American guy all the way to the left in the "Sound of Silence" video), Kirstie (the woman who gets brought in fourth), and finally Kevin (introduced fifth. He's the one who does the beat-boxing/percussion sounds)
Actually Avi didn't leave to start his own band, per se. He was burnt out on the incessant touring and his mother was very ill with cancer. He had done an EP while still with PTX (they were all doing their solo projects then), released it right after he announced his departure, then went on a hiatus (some say because of a clause in the severance deal), and came out with his first original solo single, "Change on the Rise" in March 2019, on the same day PTX released "Come Along".

OK, if you want to become one of the millions of worldwide Pentaholics, you have to learn their names...here'are some clues to help you remember their names...
Scott Hoying (Tall Blond) is a Baritone, but covers Bass, when Bass sings...with smooth voice referred to as "Butter Scott"
Mitch Grassi is a Counter Tenor...is referred to as "Mitch with the Pitch"
Kirstin (Kirstie) Maldonaldo is a Mezzo Tenor is referred to as "Kirstie makes you Thirsty"
Avi Kaplan is a Bass, and makes the group "Basses" on him.. He started with Pentatonix at their beginning in 2011, but left in late 2017 because of their insane traveling/performing (and needed time to help family)....He was replaced by Matt Sallee, a Bass with huge range
Kevin Olusalo ("KO") is the BeatBoxer, but is probably the musical genius of the group (although all are multi-TALENTED). He also sings, plays 4-5 instruments (mostly Cello), graduated from Yale and admitted to their medical school, but chose Pentatonix...also learned to speak Mandarin.
They all have continued to change their outfits, their looks, hair, etc...but Avi is the ONLY one that left group.

Mitch, Scott and Kirstie, the first 3 to sing have been there since the beginning (10 years). They may look different, because they have been doing this for 10 years, but the voices don't change. Avi, who is the 4th to sing quit in 2017 and Matt took over the bass line. Kevin, the beatboxer, has been there since the beginning. Great reaction! Thank you!

Only one member has changed. Avi, the base in this video, left amicably. Having said that, the lady, Kirsty, and the first to appear in this video, Mitch, constantly change their looks.

Recorded in a closet, video shot in a kitchen, edited on a laptop, production budget of $400. The result? Their first Grammy and superstardom! This was the original group, consisting of Scott Hoying (tall blonde guy, silver hair in this video), a baritone with a five-to-six octave range; Avi Kaplan (dark beard and cornrows), true basso profundo, but also with an impressive range; Mitch Grassi (short dark hair, a chameleon who's look changes in almost every video), a super rare contra-tenor who can hit some mind-blowing high notes; Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado (the only female member and also quite the chameleon herself), mezzo-soprano with the voice of an angel; and Kevin 'K.O." Olusola, (wearing the goggles in this video because his eyes couldn't handle the contacts), one of the best beatboxers in the world who is also a world class cellist (plays cello in some of their songs) and has a beautiful tenor singing voice, speaks at least four languages, graduated pre-med from Yale but put his medical career on hold to join Pentatonix. They've had only one membership change. Avi left the group in the fall of 2017. He was experiencing some personal issues with burnout and trouble keeping up with the band's exhaustive schedule, plus his mother was very ill at the time. He took about a year off from the music business, then returned with a truly amazing solo career. He also helped find his replacement Matt Sallee, who joined as a temporary member at the end of 2017, then became the full-time bass singer in March of 2018.
You commented about changes within the group. As it happens, both Mitch (tenor) and Kirstie (mezzo-soprano) will change their "look" from time to time. Hey, when you're that talented, who cares how you look anyway?

Mitch started out skinny little guy then gained a good amount of weight and it showed in his face. He then lost the weight and back to super skinny. The woman Kirsten looks similar but as she has grown up from a young teenager to a beautiful woman--she has matured immensely to where she looks virtually different from before but not. Beatboxer, Kevin Olusola looks the same over the last 8 years. Avi was original base and was replaced by Matt Sallie.

Yeah, only one member change. Yes, they do look a little different in this video. The thing is you're not reacting to their videos in any kind of order. So, you're gonna see some things from a few years ago and you may see some things more recent. Some videos you are gonna see Avi Kaplan ( their original Bass ) and sometimes you are gonna Matt Salle ( their new bass ). But, everything you are gonna see is like what you always say...." FIRE "....LOL Oh, you mentioned Kevins' beatboxing....Kevin has some solo stuff that he has done. You should check out his cover of "Down" by Marian Hill.
