It's just so stunning. When we knew this was on the album, I wasn't sure who I wanted to take the lead with Scott. Part of me leaned towards Kirstin because of what I knew she could do at the end, but then it was such a Superfruit moment and Mitch's voice was made for the opening of this. I should have known they'd make the absolute perfect choice and bring all of it together, everyone shining right when it was their time. I'm astonished and I really shouldn't be; they keep doing this!
i totally agree. mitch has this ethereal/angelic quality to his voice that fits the song perfectly. and kirstin brought it all together with her powerful voice towards the end. what a masterpiece
Mitch out did himself in this one. Well, they all did. Like you, I've been listening time and time again and breaking down each one. Matt's bass and Kevin's beat boxing at the end was fantastic. Scott's voice was absolutely beautiful and so was Kirstin's. I really adored their Amazing Grace but this rendition is totally tops from any rendition I've heard. Thank you for your reaction. Loved it.
Scott did a wonderful chat tonight to intro this album! He was so excited it was out & sang along with the samples he played! He also said this was the hardest one to perform because it's so emotional and difficult to sing. He was lovely! 💖
OMG that was soooooo stunning.... Scott and Mitch damn. Mitches range blows me away. And Scott's was dip perfect ad well and so on and so on..... Damn that was amazing.... Loved your reaction...
Stunningly and achingly beautiful! This was the perfect vehicle for Mitch especially, but the whole group as well. I can’t even begin to say how much I love this. Your reaction was awesome. It’s still unbelievable to me that this amazing group does not get airplay on main stream radio. This, and all their songs is so much better than half the crap that’s on the radio these days. Looking forward to many more reactions!
Scott *is* a baritone, after all! :-). His range allows him to cover the tenor pop and R&B he enjoys so much, especially since Mitch is usually singing alto (or even soprano) and Avi / Matt can cover the low end. But he did sound really fantastic singing the Andrea Bocelli part, didn't he? Kirstin's Broadway belt really plays well opposite Mitch's beautiful angel tones near the end. Kevin and Matt created such a wonderful foundation for this - hard to remember it's voices.
I first heard this song done by Andrea Boccelli and Celine Dionne. I had almost forgotten how flexible Mitch's voice was and what a huge range he has...there isn't a proper term for a man who can hit coloratura soprano notes and down into the baritone range almost down to bass. He is classified as tenor but for a voice as flexible as Mitch's...that term seems...inadequate.
I agree with you, Kirsten, though I think they all have extraordinary ranges…Mitch just…well, I’m addicted to Mitch’s voice - that beautiful, glorious, heavenly, unique voice that I could listen to nonstop. And, of course, there’s more to a voice than the range of notes they can sing. Those notes need to sound good as well! People can vocalize a note but not necessarily sing it (National anthem anyone?). I heard a music reviewer once, while talking about Mitch’s voice, say, “Mitch can sing anything…except a Bass note..ha ha”. But we’ve heard him sound gorgeous singing an A2 (“Take on Me” ), and that’s definitely in a Bass range. I think he sounds GREAT singing low. I love the warm timbre of his voice when he does. Well, I have (and could) go on & on about Mitch but like most things in life, you love what you love even if you can’t explain it, right?
@@christinamorris1594 I agree with you 100000%, he has something in his voice I can't describe, but it hits me everytime I hear him, his tone, his timbre, I don't know what it is, but I know I've never heard a voice like his in my entire life.. he's beyond amazing! 😀
Mitch slapped again and I thought I was ready for it!! That background vocals at the beginning is insane!! LOL it's the slowest song I've heard them sing.."slow it down" lol Scott going opera on us LOL ..Man your reaction to this had me smiling all the way through then feeling good on the exit. Thanks Man!!!!
Some day I'll get over the fact that this song was written for an animated fantasy adventure featuring two unlikely candidates for King Arthur's knights and a wisecracking two-headed dragon. Not today, but someday.
This really shows how much PTX has matured their sound. Each of them has grown more powerful individually ... together? full body chills. Every time. Chills.
The cover is amazing. Pentatonix knocked it out of the park once again. Glad that you enjoyed their new video. I love the entire Evergreen album that they released today.
Love this!!!! I just bought tickets for their Columbus ohio concert...my hubby even splurged on their evergreen package...I get to hear their sound check, q&a pictures with them.....IM SOOOO EXCITED
Beautiful! Amazing! What talent that they can keep on coming up with such wonderful, inspiring music. I needed this right now with the sad world we are experiencing.
I needed something to make me smile so I decided to watch this reaction again. It reminded me of how blown away you were with Bohemian Rhapsody. So I went back and watched that again and now it's 4 hours later and I have been watching you all this time. I really hope you get credit for every time a video is watched even if it's by the same person. I know I have watched the Rhapsody review about 5 times, it just makes me smile. I love your reactions and really hope with Christmas coming you will be doing lots of PTX. I love this version of the The Prayer and even though I try to avoid Christmas music until after Thanksgiving PTX makes it so hard.
such an amazing version of this song. they just keep getting better. Another version i've loved for years is Jonathan and charlette's from Britain's got talent.
This song is my new favorite from PTX. I had goosebumps throughout the entire performance. On his live stream for the Evergreen album, Scott did say The Prayer was the hardest song to arrange and Ben Bram helped them with it. They killed the song and it’s amazing how they instinctively know which person best fits each part. I AM IN LOVE WITH MITCH’S VOICE!!! It is so powerfully emotional and cuts right to my soul. Great reaction, I love watching you and hearing your comments. 💕 Have you reacted to ANCHOR yet?
Man, you hopped on this one quickly! Love your enthusiasm and love their voices. This is a great addition to the holiday album! Brings tears to my eyes....such beautiful voices.
Well, this is one of my favorite songs from Pentatonix and if there is truly a god this will be their fourth Grammy. I know you had to get ready for a livestream so you probably weren't able to pick this one apart like you usually do. There were a lot of things in the music that were just so amazing. For instance in the first verse, the bell tones from Scott and Kirstin maybe(?) and the angelic background vocals were simply, well, heavenly! There were a ton of little tiny bits and things going on and Kevin's beatboxing along with Matt's bass were just a foundation on which everything else was lifted up. I will forgive you this lapse if you promise to go back and listen to it for yourself so that you see what you were missing the first time around. It was a good reaction nevertheless. Cheers!
I've been following your Sing Off journey and loving it. This rendition of The Prayer is spellbinding. I don't know how anyone can listen and watch this and not have chills. From the singing to the lightening, it is spectacular!!!
I love, love, love when PTX does songs in languages they don't even speak. SO impressive. Especially when they do it like that! PTX's typical "wall of sound" was perfect for this song. Absolutely amazing, as always. And, Dis, you already know I love watching new drops with you, man. I ain't even gotta say it. Great reaction, brudda.
I don't know if you knew, but PTX appeared on a show honoring Queen as a sing along show. They sang "Somebody to Love". Here is the link: Pentatonix - Queen - Somebody to Love - Queen Family Singalong - UA-cam
Agree with you on what you said about the carefulness one has to use with this song. They did it with excellence and perfection!! Ps. If they do this on the Christmas tour, I just might pass out! Seriously.
@@ms.laperry8106 I just shared the vid with my friend that's going with me to the concert. Told her I wouldn't be responsible for my actions if they sing this!! 🤣
Kirstie could have easily done the lead on this, but that would have been too predictable. Mitch and Scott are absolutely perfect. Kirstie wasn’t to be outdone either. She looks stunning and her part gave me chills. Another masterpiece from them.
Everyone was expecting a Grammy for this. But I could not even find it in the list of nominations. Last year or this year. Who dropped the ball on that?
Always look forward to your videos...I had to drop what I was doing to watch this reaction! Would love to see you react to their original , Sing, or their cover of No ,,both are fire my guy! Peace & be wild!
Hi bro! I've always loved yr reactions of ptx. They just dropped their christmas album Evergreen! Hope you can get a reaction on the whole album cuz you can hear more matt as well as kevin!I'm not gonna spoil anything but trust me bro, The Prayer is just the beginning..
I love how much you love this rendition. It was truly lovely to watch. And to love PTX for their amazing voices. Mitch kicks butt.
Your face when Scott drops in with his "opera voice" made my whole night. Also I totally cried three times listening to this so far.
Who else got mad chills when Mitch was singing?
Scott singing Andrea Bocelli opera absolutely flawlessly is something I did not expect but I am freaking glad we have
I don't know how anyone can listen to this and NOT have chills. Absolutely amazing.
Masterpiece. Give them the Grammy.
I’m a mess. Crying from the sheer beauty of this thing. It’s perfect
How beautiful. Mitch is simply Amazing. PTX is splendid.

This is my new favorite rendition of this song. Yes, even more than Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. And that's saying something coming from me!
Same!! The fact that they elicited the same orchestral backing with just 5 people is…🤯. Stunning!
that's a big statement but i agree
You forget, PTX does upgrades, not covers.
I thought Celine's The Prayer could not be beat even though I love PTX. PTX are now #1 and Celine/ Bocelli are #2 for The Prayer lol.
Before this I preferred the Josh Groban and Celine Dion live version best! Not any more...
I have heard this about 10 times already today and cried because Mitch has the voice of an 😇.
🥰🎙🎼

Only one disagreement with ur comment: PTX is better than 99.9% of the crap on the radio ☀️
I love them all but Mitch is absolutely stunning. This song is beautiful.
Matt's bass was perfect supporting them all.🎵

Most beautiful song ever. Makes me feel closer to God.

I absolutely love this version, gave me goosebumps.

Andre & Celine would be proud of this!
A new PTX classic!
I just got the notification too and went straight to the PTX site. Gorgeous! Can't believe you already got this done. Thanks so much!
such an amazing version of this song. they just keep getting better.

I would live to see them do covers of both go rest high on that mountain and you raise me up
