- This week we introduce you to some very special people.
Alec and Jan Forman.
In 1977 Alec and Jan drove their Series 3 Land Rover across 29 countries on an epic 40,000 mile overland journey.
Their journey took them to places that are no longer accessible to modern day travellers.
We were so very honoured to recently have the opportunity to interview Alec and Jan and we are super excited to share their story with you.
We've often commented that as international over landers in this day and age we have it easy.
In 1977 with no access to social media, internet, satellite navigation and mobile phones there is no doubt that Alec and Jan faced challenges that we can't even begin to imagine.
Hearing stories like theirs is such an inspiration to us and we are so grateful to have had this chat with them.
Alec and Jan have even written a book, Strangers Like Angels With a Devil or Two to Boot.
We learned so much and we're also very excited to hear that they still have the very same Land Rover that carried them on this incredible adventure.
There are some big plans in store for this Landy.
Check out all the links below to find out more and get your hands on a copy of their book.
You can buy the book through the Explmore website.

You can also learn about their son Charles and his great company Explmore through which in honour of his parents travels he promotes international travel for education and cultural awareness.
We are also proud ambassadors for Explmore.

Join us as we travel the world overland, exploring the cultures and traditions of all the countries we visit.
In our Land Rover Defender camper which is our full time home we will take you rock climbing, hiking and exploring across all the continents on this planet.
Awesome, a fitting tribute to an amazing couple who undertook such journeys without the hi tech available to us today. Thank you for sharing. 👍🏼
Any adventure is more authentic in a proper Landrover. Well done.
So precious. What an inspiration. Perfect example of "Those who went before"; and they are still going. And won't stop going!.
I Am from Afghanistan Thanks for sharing the Afghanistan video
Nice to meet again Alec and Jan who came home a few years ago. Wonderful travel. Wonderful people. I'm glad the Land Rover will be on the road soon.
Absolutely fantastic, love listening to old stories of people over landing back in the 60s and 70s
I enjoy these looks back at a time and opportunity that no longer exist, it gives us perspective on the ways we act today.
Brown Church is still in business. They were just working on my 2011 110 this past week. Great video too!!!!
What a wonderful episode and must have been amazing sharing your stories. What a amazing couple...well...you both are 👍👍
I just found this episode. Wonderful!
I read Alec & Jan’s book a couple of years ago - a thrilling read, not just because of the Land Rover, but because the Lands and people it took them to. Good luck restoring the Series 3 - hope to see it out at a show one day.
Great Story ! Merci pour cette magnifique rencontre humaine !
They are a great couple. My wife and I had a ‘74 SIII 109 hardtop with the 2.25 petrol. Took us all over North America.
What a beautiful story, well done for posting this and how ell spoken is their son. Congrats eveyone
True legends. What a lovely couple. Thanks for the nice interview.
I wish there was a heart instead of just a thumbs up to classify a you tube video. this one would get 10 hearts from me!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What an amazing beautiful story. I am ordering the book.
I've read their book so interesting, great reading
What a legend they are , Nowadays we even can't imagine how to travel without internet, solar, GPS, fridge... Many thanks for sharing is story.
What an amazing journey of the lovely couple. Goosebumps
WOW WOW, Top interview. thanks for sharing with me Australia
Another wonderful post! Here is to the ‘good old days’!
Thanks, guys!
Wow guys, what a video! Just amazing, thanks for sharing , big time! Also must say you are the live example and tribute to what Alec and Jan did back in the day, the newer version honoring the past and Land Rovers! Brilliant!
Thank you for a moving, sensitive and lovely tribute to a very inspiring couple. It's so wonderful to be able to appreciate the life journeys others have taken and to be warmed and inspired by them. A good mate of mine has a Series III and we are looking to join some charity rallies here in Australia in it. Your channel gives life and momentum to such aspirations! Many thanks from Sydney - Dave
Wonderful episode, what a beautiful couple and what a heart warming story. Thank you for sharing and I am going to order the book now.
Thanks for sharing!!
Wish I could love this more!!! Such an inspiring couple, just like you two. Thanks for sharing.
Lee & Steph, awesome interview guys, in those years paper maps, CB radios, compases and meeting strangers was how things were, and with a bit of a street smart approach everyone got bye, Thank you for sharing greatly appreciated.
Très belle histoire humaine, merci pour le partage !!
A great adventure, I have a 1968 Type IIA, that has been aroung most of North America, refreshing it to tow behind an RV and boondock in the western US.
I really liked this video, been able to learn of pioneer overlanders in rovers is classic!
What a wonderful story of a trip.
No Handy, no GPS, just a few maps ...
The pure adventure!
Best interview. I am so glad you'll interview this couple. considering all the luxuries we have today, this couple should be considered legends
lovel video just what i needed.

Amazing guys!!!
A superb story. Good stuff!
Fantastic!
Another nice story. THANSK
Great video... And, just bought their book 👍 Thank you.
Wow what a fantastic trip they had. Much respect to these adventurers 😎
This episode is definitely a great idea. Connecting never seen before overlanders with the rest of your followers - fantastic. In my mind you showed a great level of respect to them and I am sure they are absolutely happy about it.
What an amazing couple ! They even sent me a copy of their book from Germany to South Africa. Had to do it twice as first shipment went "missing" but was returned to them eventually. The second attempt they sent it to me via my son who lives in UK - he brought it to me on one of his visits when you do the Kalahari desert. Treasured item in my book collection. Best to you and Taiwan.
This made me cry!
I reckon we can say they had balls of steel, no fear, can be done and will be done mentality.
Legends!!
Top! Great interview!
Wow what true legends of the over landing life style . Thanks so much for sharing there awesome story & adventures with us , and the links to there book and there sons link also . What and inspirational couple . And that there belief that the people are the trip , just like the way you two show us all the same joy in visiting all the people you meet . Cheers to the great interview video . Thanks again for all you do to bring us these videos . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
Watt a fantastic video awesome to meet that couple absolut fantastik great to see you an them together ❤ 😀 thank you from dk
I really loved this episode, thanks for sharing it with us. Going to look for some more info on the restoration of that series III, and since I have been four times in Morocco, first in a 4x4 Pegaso truck (from Marseille to Dakar) and then with my Land Rover Defender 90 and lastly on a rental 4wd car, I thought it would be interesting to come back with a Series II or similar... To feel the real driving without any luxury of modern cars... Let's see what happens, if things come back to previous normality... Thanks again, guys!!
That would be so amazing. Let's hope the world can return to normal. 🤞💛
I have switched from a TD5 to a Series 3. It is good and bad.
By the way, 15mins after the video I've had bought the book! 😍😍😍

Great episode!!!
Even though I still hope to travel more in the future, I would give anything to have been able to travel like that years ago.
Thank you guys so much for this episode, I really, really enjoyed it, and hope to get a copy of their book.
Safe travels!
What a fascinating story loved the episode
Thanks for share this video. 😍👍🏻
Wonderful couple. Amazing the trip they took on their own. We traveled North America in a $500 hatchback decades ago and loved it. No phone or gps just maps, compass and the desire to stay off highways. It was great but nothing compared to traveling africa and eurasia. As always another great video, thank you be safe. I like the gentleman's chairs.
Great story- you've seen your future selves...love to see the series 3 brought back to life!
good to hear stories from India !

VERY MOVING interview, Stef and Leigh, thank you very much!! Very inspiring couple, just like you too!
Merci beaucoup my friend 😍🙏
Like opening a Time Capsule.... From the future. ¡PURA VIDA!
That was so cool hearing about this couple traveling to other countries before GPS and air conditioning
Awesome tribute video. Respect 👍👍. Love to follow you an your trip around the world.
Very interesting interview! Great format! Keep doing it and thank you for your UA-cam channel!!! 👍😀
Thank you so much for a fantastic interview! Congratulations! While watching it, all my childhood was coming back: I was brought up in Northern Cameroon and was a teenager when Alan and Jan traveled through Western Africa. And, I went to school every day in a series 3 Landrover on very bad roads. I remember the leaf suspension to this day , sometimes teeth shattering ;-)! I have bought their book right away and am looking very much forward to reading it.
This has been the most fantastic video. I enjoyed it so much. I was in my twenties in the seventies . technology was so primitive then , crazy. Thanks again.
What an amazing story, and a wonderful couple. Will have to find their book now!
Wow ! wow ! Wow ! what a great episode !!! Thanks for sharing !
That was so heart warming and inspiring ❤
Really enjoyed sharing yours and that couples travels and experienced. I shall locate and read their story. I am so jealous of the courage you show in taking the decision to travel like you all have done
I'm an English old timer now that was so wrapped up in developing a career at your age. I missed out on real life experiences. I relive them now through yours.
Thank you for that! Especially the Michelin Saharan map! I still have mine with the broken pages an997 d sand under the plastic from 1987... I was so rushed getting ready that I was in Ain Salah before I got to put the plastic film on.
Never got to Kyrgystan... but in 1997 drove from UK to Almaty. Just looked down from the mountains outside Almaty to look at Kyrgyzstan from afar.
