    Beautiful trip,stunning countryside!
    I love the slow winding roads.
    I live in Central California where everything is a multiple hour, high speed, highway blast. Pretty hard on my Series 2A.
    Love the trains. My wife and I volunteer at Railtown 1897. I have worked on the Locomotive that was used in😅
    “Back to the Future 3”.
    A cab ride in a steam locomotive is always a fun experience.🚂

      Thank you, it's daft really but in the UK we are never really that far from places like Exmoor, yet it takes a long time to get there.... and rarely is there time to do so. One of my life goals is to spend more time exploring favourite parts of this island- so many British people have been all around the world but have seen bugger all of their own country. I'll visit the states one day- there's a few things I'd like to see, speed week at Bonneville in particular.

      Funny you should mention Bonneville.
      Craig Breedlove was my close friend for many years. I was a volunteer on his 3 rd jet car “Spirit of America Sonic Arrow “.
      He passed away in April last year. He set the World Land Speed record 5 times.
      It’s true what you say about people traveling all over the world but not seeing their own country. I’ve known people who have lived in this area all there lives but have not been to Yosemite NP . And it’s just 2 hours up the road.

    What a great trip. And you got to fit in some steam engines 😀 Great to see these old Land Rovers doing long these long journeys. Quite a few owners seem scared to go more than 20 miles. Drove my Lightweight down to Calais then on to Normandy earlier in the year with some others. As long as they are maintained properly then you shouldn't expect any problems.

      It's always with a certain amount of trepidation that I set out on such journeys, but you are quite right - it really ought to be no bother. Between the two vehicles, the failures were a headlight switch (easily wired around) and a wiper motor park switch.

    That long drag down to Lynmouth is a real brake cooker. Some of the tallest cliffs in the uk.

    • @steamwally
      @steamwally  9 місяців тому +1

      Must be a nightmare for HGV's that stray that way! I just descended in 2nd overdrive which was enough to keep off the brakes much of the way.

    Fantastic adventure , I have been married to LR for the last 55 years :-)) Pity we cannot do that kind of adventure here in Malta as it is only an island 20 miles by 8 miles no mountains and no rivers:-)) But then we have the Mediterranean sea all round and the sun all the year round:-)))

      I guess you can't have it all John! Nice to hear from you again, I hope you are still turning spanners on the engines at every opportunity?

      Hi Wally nice to hear from you!!! I am still restoring engines but at a much slower pace as old age is taking over I am now 77!!! It seems engines are getting heavier all the time:-)) Here is to have an idea of my engine shed in the background of the video:-))
      ua-cam.com/video/U6hQqdgb-wQ/v-deo.html This is an interview I had from a local TV station regarding my building from scratch of a faithful replica of Ford's first car!!!!!

      @steamwally  9 місяців тому +1

      @@trafforde Excellent! We found plenty of lanes such as that, particularly the other side of the Tarr Steps, where we encountered the local hunt. Wonderful place to spend a few days, I could have stayed longer.

    • @steamwally
      @steamwally  9 місяців тому

      It was excellent, so I hope to do something similar at the end of next summer. There has been plenty on in the workshop, I'm currently restoring a little Hartop stationary engine but it's been an exceptionally busy year with little time to make videos about projects. The project pile continues to grow faster than it is tackled...

    Hi What size of tyres and wheels are you using ? Tubeless or 7.50 / R16 with tubes.

    • @steamwally
      @steamwally  9 місяців тому

      7.50 but on tubeless Wolf rims- a good combination. I have fitted the extended 130 type wheel studs too.

      @@steamwally I know that 'regret' feeling. But maintaining multiple oldtimers is kind of hard. I have 3 (landrover, amazon, vw t2) and always wondering which one I love the most
