- In 1973 my Dad bought this Land Rover Series 2A LWB brand new in Johannesburg South Africa. Now 50 years later I take a drive and a closer look at this classic Land Rover after all this time. It no longer does overlanding trips but we still own it and use it as a work vehicle. I also have a look at how we prepared and used this Landy for overlanding trips back in the 70s and 80s.

Thanks for sharing this lovely heirloom. They get in in our blood and never leave, these old-timers. Nice to see you covering some classic camping innovations. I've also kept most of what we used back then, and today they're camping novelties that amaze people. Your Landy and I were born the same year, incidentally.
You clearly understand the Landy charm. Camping was simple and those innovations born out of necessity. I am glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful shots of a beautiful machine! ESPECIALLY the shot of the tailgate and the lights.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you very much for watching and sharing your comments.
Only in a LAND ROVER it's a WAY OF LIFE. Both my diesel 88" series 1 and diesel series 2a 109 1965 are still running strong. They have never let me down, or left me stranded.
Greetings from Florida and the USA.
Those are two fine Land Rovers you have there and great to hear that they are well cared for and reliable. Thanks for commenting
Wonderful seeing the landrover. Currently rebuilding one from no basis. Finding and scraping all parts together. The body is similar to yours. Inspirational. Thank you. Love the camping gear.
Johan Krugersdorp.
Thanks for watching and the comments Johan, good luck with your build. Maybe one day I should rebuild that Landy with all that camping gear
Stunning Landy! My first was a '77 Safari Station Wagon with Safariwindscreen. It had a 2.6 cylinder sidevalve straight six. It never let me down ever. I miss it profoundly. It ended u with 110 county seats and series3 R6 rims.
Ah so you know the 2.6 well. Thanks for sharing sounds like you had a real beauty there.
In this day of consumerism, it’s great to see a long family history
With a vehicle.
I had no idea they could be converted from a wagon to a pickup.
Luckily my Dad never sold it and now we have a duty to preserve it. The pickup to hardtop conversion is very common. That’s different to the Station wagon which is less flexible in this regard. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comments.
Wonderful to watch. Thank you Alan.👍👍
Thanks a lot George so glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate you watching and commenting.

What a legendary Rover ! I baught myself a Series 2 A that looks almost Identical its just a 1969 LWB with an 2.25 petrol engine ,He needs a bit of work bu I drive him every day and I am going to build myself a similar kitchen unit what a great Idea. Really love your channel Ijust discovered it 😃
Your Landy sounds fantastic, I’m sure he has many stories to tell too, good luck with those mods. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Cheers from your sister-series 2A in Alaska. I thoroughly enjoyed your video, and really enjoyed that you kept the old Landy in the family. You have one of the farthest south Landy's and I have one of the farthest north's. I just inherited mine from an old friend that I've been running around in his for the past 42 years, so I can relate to keeping the tradition going. Still running like a top and I swear, if these old girls had a soul, they'd be happy to still be in the family. From the Sub-Arctic to the Sub-Saharan, best wishes 👍
What a great story. Thanks so much for sharing. Amazing where these old vehicles are all over the world. Would love to visit Alaska one day. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Thanks for the informative video. My Land Rover has a similar engine with yours but I haven't used mine a lot as I recently bought it.I would like to know what your experiences are with that engine. What you like about the 2.26 engine, its strengths and weaknesses.Thanks.Gabriel.
This 2.6l side valve engine is the evolution from the original 1.6 and 2l engine from the Series 1. It is super reliable and robust I will not change it because it is suitable for this vehicle. It is very smooth and has a lot of torque. Only complaint is that it needs to be tuned properly to run efficiently and the carb needs to be properly maintained. If not it will be slow and use more fuel but it will keep on going.
Is that ENV axles? Like the one from one tonne series 2a? Love your truck man..thats a truck with history.. greetings from indonesia
Yes that is an ENV axle on the back, it came off a forward control. It is super strong. Thanks for watching and commenting
I want to this this cabin conversion on mine as well. How was it done please? Thanks.
I use a GoPro 9 mostly, it gives great video quality and the sound quality is not bad for a small camera
Grizzly and Bear are on their way to Capetown. Well the 130 is in a container anyway. You might meet up perhaps? 👍🏻🙏🦘
That would be cool!
