    About I’m on Vacation:
    I'm on Vacation is about freedom. Freedom from responsibility. It's an "out of office" auto reply on your work email. It's a beer on a Tuesday at lunch just because the weather is nice. It's a laissez-faire mindset. Throw caution to the wind, because anything can happen when you’re on vacation, and nothing else exists but the present moment.
    Bradley and Margaret McCoy have made their home in New Orleans and are living this "I'm on Vacation" mentality. From dancing in the streets in full costume during Mardi Gras to buying a vintage houseboat to travel down the Mississippi River, there’s no telling where they will end up next.

    This is why you buy a cruising guide, it will give you all pertinent information. How to approach, depths, GPS coordinates, facilities and services. And OBSTRUCTIONS. I would never leave without one. About $50.

    Once you get past St. Louis the locks are further apart and you can make better time. Well, you already know that now.

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, we knew that when we were making the trip and we're excited about that as the locks took up the most time. There's actually no locks after St. Louis.

    My Navtronics on my laptop is priceless in the daytime and especially at night time which I try my best to be off the river before sunset. It puts you on the map and you can steer right to where ever you need to go.

    13:35 ..Those are Duck blinds...Hunters "hide in there" during season and ole daffy none the wiser

      LOL! Yes, I'm a big duck hunter. Pending which video this was, I think it was actually a tiki hut for a Labor Day party. 🤣 But still fun to see the happenings going on while boating the river. 🤣

      Just saw your time reference and watched video. Yeah, I think that was a duck blind and told Margaret as much. She was having fun with it. 🤪

    My grandparents had a houseboat that had to be the same nodel as yours. Red and prolly a little older. Was kept in sabula iowa. I went under the netting along the rails and into the missippi at 1 year old my dad dove off the top deck in after me.

      That's awesome you grew up on one. I jumped in after a 2yr girl that fell of the back of a houseboat at night and I was maybe 10. It happens quick around the water. Hopefully that didn't keep you from the houseboat growing up.

    That structure you asked about was called a duck blind for hunting. They pulled their boats underneath that to hide from the waterfall.

    Nice job docking in the wind and dark at end of episode. Was that mayo on the hotdog for dinner? Strange combo!

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  2 роки тому

      Thanks! There was definitely some elements to work through. You're not the first to comment on mayo on hot dog. I feel like everyone is missing out then. Mayo and ketchup go together like penutbutter jelly. 🤪

    Rule 1. NEVER go out in the river at night. Rule number 2 See rule 1.

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  10 місяців тому

      Completely agree and our rule too. We left at 8am that morning, so we didn't go out at night, just got caught by the locks. Keep watching the other videos, because we get in a much worse situation further down the river.

    Is your houseboat saltwater worthy? Or are there freshwater marinas in NOLA?

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  Рік тому

      That's something we're working on. The biggest issue is it's been difficult to get the boat out of the water due to the bolt on walkways and all the shipyards using travel lifts to pull the boats out instead of trailers. We need to put an antifowl coating on the hull and add some anodes. We have the boat in the marsh, so definitely in salt. Everything south of Lake Pontchartrain is pretty much salt, but there are marinas north of Lake Pontchartain that are fresh water.

    Where are yall getting yall fuel from

    • @ImonVacation
      @ImonVacation  2 роки тому +1

      On the upper Mississippi there are marinas every 5-100 miles. In the lower Mississippi we had to get some help from our friends and family. Those episodes are coming soon!

    • @ImonVacation

      We're going to miss you. We wanted to capture each spot we stayed at so we could remember them and provide a map and detail of the stops for anyone wishing to make this trip. The Mississippi River is an incredible marvel with very little footage of the rural areas, so some find it pretty interesting to have the opportunity to look through this window.
