Coming to this video Sept 24'. The Mrs and I just fulfilled her dream of houseboat ownership on a 76' Nautiline here in Tennessee. Fun fact: ours also came with the same "captains quarters" brass sign. Thank you for the fun interior design ideas that we also hope to implement in ours.

I just found this channel at 1:30 am tue morn 8/27/24 and binge watched the Mississippi trip until 9:30 am the next morning. What a trip. I've never seen anything like it and I watch a lot of youtube. Fantastic! Wonderful couple.

I live about a mile from the Captain's Table restaurant in Moline (not Davenport) Very familiar with this "pool" between Lock and dams 14 and 15. I sail with a friend here all the time. Everyone is aware of the wing dams, as you would have been if you had reliable charts or chart plotter. They are hard to spot in high water, but if normal to low levels you can see it protruding above the water. You are in deep trouble if you're navigating the river without any awareness of the literally thousands and thousands of ing dams that run parallel as well as perpendicular to the current and stick out from the shore to keep the water flow in the channel. If you leave the channel, you better know where you're going. The wing dam outside of the marina at the Captain's Table should have been shown on charts. Again, if you're planning on navigating by .... nothing but looking for stuff sticking out of the water, you're never going to make it. But hope you get past St. Louis and then you won't have to worry about locks or wing dams. It's unfortunate that on a busy labor day weekend you didn't see all the other boats passing between the rock piles that mark the entrance and chose not to follow them and go your own way. And wow, interesting seeing you walking along the streets that I ride my bike almost daily. I live JUST on top of the bluff above that Dollar General store you visited! Amazing. There's also an opening in the wing damn near where the large cruise ship Celebration Belle docks, again between some rock piles that allows passage. I guess you went all the way down under the bridge and through the channel at the tip of Arsenal Island. And BTW.... the Captain's Table and Marquis Marina are in MOLINE Illinois. You even showed the sign that said welcome to MOLINE in your video. ha. (where you walked was right on the border between Moline and East Moline) Davenport is further downstream and in Iowa. Admire your trip and would love to own a houseboat. But not sure my nerves can take following you for the rest of the trip. ha. Best of luck.

I went to school at SEMO and return annually for Homecoming. As soon as I saw this view I knew exactly where you were - We've rented this Airbnb on previous trips and will continue to do so as long as it's available! :-)

come on dude, get the proper rod for your reel. You are using a spinning reel on a baitcasting rod. I promise your fishing experience will be better with matched up equipment. Notice the finger grip on the rod. It shouldn't be sticking up. A spinning reel shouldn't be attached to a rod with a finger grip. Also a spinning rod will have larger line guides to accommodate the offset of the spinning reel. Anyway, hopefully you get your gear squared away before you fish again. That was a nice catfish. Glad you got it!

Info overload. I have been boating the Mississippi from Winona north since the 70's. It was very smart getting someone with experience with that size boat as well as Mississippi River boating. It is also good that you got it on video. He shared so much of what he knows that it had to be hard to keep up. What a great adventure. Been a dream of mine for decades to do what you did.

You claim you have a scooter but why is it not on back of your house boat so you go reg gas station to get cheep fuel ? You guys arnt very good at house boat life are ya

The only thing that I'd add to Bernie's instruction is on a gasoline powered boat, run the blowers for at least 5 minutes before starting the engines. There are a lot of UA-cam videos of what happens if you don't and there are gasoline fumes in the compartment--big bada boom.

The good old Mississippi River is full of surprises. I've found out the hardway myself. I loaned my cabin cruiser to my BIL who got it stuck on an unmarked sandbar in pool 26. And further North at the confluence of the Mississippi and the Illinois Rivers, I hit a submerged log that almost tore my auxiliary engine off of the transom. Luckily I was only going about 4 knots at the time.

Hey you 2 bradly i am in the uk my lady is in columbus ohio but i would of loved to of done what you did i have been in boating for 40 years and still miss going around the uk and across to the french canals to the mediteranean . Those huge oil tankers remind me of the Great Lakes tankers. Many over 1,000 feet long......LSU Tigers, yuck!
