Love the name of your boat and I'm sharing your story! Folks ask "Hey . where are you vacationing? Answer: I'm on a boat named "I'm On Vacation!"..yea..quit repeating yourself. Where are you really??!!..😂.lol! Reminds of the time my brothers and I were in the car with my folks...mom says..Oh. this is a good song on the radio! Who's the band? We said 'Guess Who?"..5 minutes later mom says "I give up!! I can't guess! 😂 😂😂...and it was 1973!!

This is one of the best finds on here!! You two are adorable and it's really very real feeling. Even when you both may be feeling a little anxious...you make it so real feeling because not every day is the same with any travel challenge..such a challenge on our amazing Mississippi!! I just discovered the two of you and thank you!!! This is the only way that I can travel...is vicariously through you both and others. So glad I Googled "Mississippi Cruising"!! Makes me think of Lewis and Clark...if you want a good read, look for the book about adventurous folks like these two, check out "Westward WHOA" by W. Hodding Carter.....talk about an incredible journey!!!

Stumbled on your channel last night while doing a search for "Mardi Gras Pass." I lived in Pointe-a-la Hache when I was a kid. Fished & duck hunted there for many years, and yes, ran aground on an oyster reef in Bayou John / American bay! (same location that you got stuck). I feel y'all's pain with losing Ponce. We have had four labs over the years and lost #4 last year. We waited several months before getting #5. You can't replace them, but at least a puppy helps to mend your broken heart. Nothing like a lab; they are the best! Good luck with your future endeavors.

I just finished this first episode. Such an exciting adveture! I bought a 70's houseboat on the Mississippi on a whim. I'm planning on making a similar trip this summer. Boats are a labor of love. Not one single old boat is without its issues but these things have been taking care of our families for generations before us, and we take care of them back just the same. The boat chose you!

Stumbled upon your channel today, so sorry to see you got into the lateral dam. I see it happen to a handful of boaters every year, usually worse though unfortunately. Glad you guys made it out alright! We live near there and I work at the service base you passed through at 14A. Ironically that was us in the cruiser on the right at 12:01 behind you anchored out! Looks like I have a new channel to follow!

Coming to this video Sept 24'. The Mrs and I just fulfilled her dream of houseboat ownership on a 76' Nautiline here in Tennessee. Fun fact: ours also came with the same "captains quarters" brass sign. Thank you for the fun interior design ideas that we also hope to implement in ours.

I just found this channel at 1:30 am tue morn 8/27/24 and binge watched the Mississippi trip until 9:30 am the next morning. What a trip. I've never seen anything like it and I watch a lot of youtube. Fantastic! Wonderful couple.

I live about a mile from the Captain's Table restaurant in Moline (not Davenport) Very familiar with this "pool" between Lock and dams 14 and 15. I sail with a friend here all the time. Everyone is aware of the wing dams, as you would have been if you had reliable charts or chart plotter. They are hard to spot in high water, but if normal to low levels you can see it protruding above the water. You are in deep trouble if you're navigating the river without any awareness of the literally thousands and thousands of ing dams that run parallel as well as perpendicular to the current and stick out from the shore to keep the water flow in the channel. If you leave the channel, you better know where you're going. The wing dam outside of the marina at the Captain's Table should have been shown on charts. Again, if you're planning on navigating by .... nothing but looking for stuff sticking out of the water, you're never going to make it. But hope you get past St. Louis and then you won't have to worry about locks or wing dams. It's unfortunate that on a busy labor day weekend you didn't see all the other boats passing between the rock piles that mark the entrance and chose not to follow them and go your own way. And wow, interesting seeing you walking along the streets that I ride my bike almost daily. I live JUST on top of the bluff above that Dollar General store you visited! Amazing. There's also an opening in the wing damn near where the large cruise ship Celebration Belle docks, again between some rock piles that allows passage. I guess you went all the way down under the bridge and through the channel at the tip of Arsenal Island. And BTW.... the Captain's Table and Marquis Marina are in MOLINE Illinois. You even showed the sign that said welcome to MOLINE in your video. ha. (where you walked was right on the border between Moline and East Moline) Davenport is further downstream and in Iowa. Admire your trip and would love to own a houseboat. But not sure my nerves can take following you for the rest of the trip. ha. Best of luck.
