You did not get lucky. You put in all the work. You studied the systems. You studied the wiring. You then worked of a diagnostic plan that took you to the loose wiring. Great job
He would have gotten there eventually. if he was lucky he would have noticed it the first time he hooked up the jumpers. Still a bit disappointing that after all that troubleshooting it turned out to be a loose connection. He will have a hard time selling that to the owner. That's the problem with electrical systems, one bad connection can affect the whole thing. I've even had batteries that act flat, even though the connections were tight - pull them off and clean the terminals and it's all good to go again.
I am Not a car mechanic. I am a master plumber, industrial gas-fitter and steam boiler mechanic and I am enjoying all of your videos!!!!!!!! You should have 1 million subscribers.
u are one honest person rather than throwing parts you spent hours and scientifically found that it is a bad ground I'm sure your customers are lucky to have an honest real mechanic like you. wow
I love those fixes. You almost feel lucky for finding them. I remember after selling my car a few years ago, the girl that bought it posted my name on Facebook and said help me. So I got ahold of her and met her after work with no tools. The car wouldn’t start and i just happen to see a broken ground wire and that was it . Luckily we were next to a goodwill and I bought a couple of tools and fixed it.
WOW - WHAT A GREAT VIDEO ! I learned a ton,so thank you for that time and effort. In the medical community , when it comes down to making a diagnosis, we always tell ourselves " think horses, not zebras" - but if the horses don't show up, look for zebras.
I work on cars for a living and have tackled many many super hard problems. I must say, your videos are excellent and I absolutely respect your thinking process and skills. The multiple communication loss codes may have lead me to that rabbit hole you speak of. Its hard on some cars to determine if this lead to that or that lead to this. Awesome video as usual and unbelievable skill!!😎
Very informative video thanks even 3 years later! Just bought an 08 HCH a few days ago and can see the battery or converter isn't working a 100% but not giving any problems yet.. thanks
And i still dont get how scotty kilmer has over a million subscribers. You and the other great technicians like scannerdanner, SMA, PHA, etc deserve it
Very thorough diagnostics on a rather complex system. People may say, oh..he got lucky, but just how many would have even known to look in the that box, let alone the terminal that was creating the ill. Excellent job.
PROFESSIONAL HONDA GOLD TECHNICIAN. because you make plan what is tools needed before you start. this is the PROFESSIONAL GOLD HONDA TECHNICIAN. This is right step to Diagnos trouble shooting.
I was a dealership tech for 10 years. ASE Master Technician. Before digging in on an electrical problem always check the basics first. Trust me I've been burned chasing rabbits several times myself. All the technology in the world can't replace the basics...

Awesome job with the video, as usual. You're one of a handful of channels I load up when I'm working in my shop by myself. Makes me feel like I have company, which is a good thing these days with all the virus weirdness in the world. I hope you and yours are safe and healthy. Thanks so much for sharing your findings!
Awesome work! I learned a bit more on reading electrical schematics. Working on a hybrid can be so intimidating especially when you have communication errors on your scanner and it’s funny how the problem had nothing to do with the hybrid system. Just a dumb ground to the 12v battery. The battery is always the heart of a car. Good find. No task is too great for you. You are the David to every Goliath when it comes to cars. Thank you so much for your videos. You and your talent are in valuable to this community. I’m a 60 yr old mom getting ready to work on my daughters 2013 Honda Civic Hybrid. Keep me in your prayers. Have a Happy New Year. Be blessed!
Great video. I'll take it a step further and went to fuse 62, and it was burnt. I believe that happened when the jumper cables were put on the 12v battery. When I did, the battery showed 8 volts but was taking a high rate of charge. Anyway, replaced the fuse and wa-la. All systems back online, or seems to be, at this time. I like how you do your videos, very informative. Thx. Subscribed, and grateful
Nice video! My father use to drive that car, after selling, he buys another hybrid and then an Accord, now he drive a CR-V. I have a Civic since 2007 and as you can see, we like honda. Man you should think to open a mechanic school (not for fix stuff), in order to teach how to find the way fixing those problems (sorry for my english, i am learning)
Excellent video Eric. Lots of useful information. Like how you always walk us through the wiring schematic. Very useful info. Hope all is well with yourself and family during these uncertain times. Thanks Artie ❤️
What a great story, another illustration of how skilled technicians have the thoughtful mindset to recognize a lucky charm. And, how a minor mistake by a prior tech can lead to problems that take hours to figure out.
Dude, you did soo much and you are really good at explaining it. There is one more small fuse box for the IMA system. 3 fuses. ImA 1, IMA 2, and brake booster. Located bottom, left hand corner of the battery. I don't think you ever got to it. My car left me stranded the other day with same symptoms. Got lucky watching another video about this Fuze box, changed those 3 fuses and was able to drive away. Drove an hour after, hasn't come back....yet....
Nicely done! Awesome video, I was guessing bad battery connection from the beginning of the diagnosis, I just helped a family member out with same issue almost, he had loose primary battery terminals from previous owners letting car sit for 8 months till sale! Owner said the high voltage battery just got replaced at dealership, but won't run! I see this almost weekly, first thing I ask any car owner " recent battery change, how long ago & who did it!" 97% admit battery changed within a year, I get under hood and show them the cake batter at terminals! I'm in Maine and everyone says thier battery can't cause this "it's brand NEW" ""YEAH RIGHT""! GO buy yourselves those green and red felt disc at a store & a packet of dielectric grease for a buck and voila problem solve! Boom fixed now pay me & hears a head slap for being numb!!! Nice to see the PoWeR Probe used too! Thanks
You have no idea the amount of problems loose ground battery cables cause , that's the first thing i do is check for old rusty loose ground wires before i search any other electrical problems, this has saved me countless hours of labor and headaches
I had the same issue. And I luckily figured that it was the lose positive terminal. I felt it's the same case for you too at the beginning but watched all the way till 43 minutes to find out it is the same issue haha! But I learned a lot though!!!
Man this guys a Legend! all the hassle just for a loose battery lead!😂😅 He's the real deal! very professional and knowledgeable! i remembered the story I heard about the ship engineer who tried to fix a cruise ship. Many have tried and failed, but when he came, he just brought a hammer and tapped an area of the boat engine, then it started working again! Costed 300k for the fix. The ship company queried why it was so expensive cos he just used a hammer to tap it. Then he sent them the invoice indicating 1. hammer = $20 2. Knowing where to knock = $299,980 😅😂 inshort its professionalism! things may look simple and easy for people to see how he fixed it but in reality, it took him years of study and experience learning all the dynamics, locations and diagnostics just to know when and where to knock! 😅 I admire your attention to details bro! I'm always amazed with real skills at work! keep up!
I knew it, I knew it. You spent 40 minutes going through all the technical stuff and the whole time I was thinking that you know it's some kind of wire issue or connection issue so why don't you first go old school and just look really close around under the hood first. Anyway thank you for the interesting video.
Eric, that is a crazy detail search only to find a lose wire problem. You are so patient and depth detail. Great find and fix. I truly wish you lived in the DFW area. You would have a new customer!
brother .....its only yours 1st video of honda civic hybrid in youtube in detail...of all can bus and control module...its hard to find videos on this car..also not available mechanical brochure ot wiring diagram anywhere on int.you explaining indetail..thanx a lot bro.. 👌👌👌👌 i also have problem with my HCH .yellow beake light, trans D is blinking...and abs light also....i sort out this problem at home in 1month problem with only one 10amp fuse blown under the hood its IMA fuse located in behind radiator small box have 3 fuses.. thanx bro
Really impressive lengths you went to to find that loose ground. Amazing skills and attention to detail, electrical issues tend to baffle me, good job starting at the problem and back tracking to the solution, very impressive. Thank you

i have a 2013 honda civic hybrid with less than 109k miles on it, as i was driving yesterday my check charging system, check IMA system, and check brake system lights came on all at once. i took it to run a diagnostic at autozone and no error codes popped up at all so im hoping its a fuze or wiring issue because i cant afford to replace the entire hybrid battery pack. hopefully whatever mechanic i bring it to is as thorough as you.

Hi Moe Anaya, I just got similar problem with my 2010 honda civic hybrid. So I am wondering if you got any luck with fixing yours and what was the fix? Tnx!
Today I had the same problem with my 2003 Honda hybrid. The same cable was super lose. I probably messed it up after I installed a new battery couple of weeks ago. After adjusting the cable. I took my car for an 40 miles drive. Ima and check engine are off. Thank you 🙏
ERIC, Awesome video/info just want to say u are a gentleman with good soul by doing and sharing all this knowledge and the way with ur thought process it is excellent teaching and showing to others like my self and by the way i start watching ur videos one by one every day between 1 to 5 videos and letting the advertising and adds to play in full as u know in this corona time so thanks and really much appreciated for what you do and it is a joy to learn from yah brotha stay safe and healthy. cheeeeeers
I recall being in a distant town, and saw a gal with a VW rabbit (or other...) with a hood up. She complained that she couldn't consistently start it. I was a bit worried, as I'd never looked at a diesel before, and vaguely knew that there are warming circuits for the plugs which could have complicated things. Had her jump in to start it, and just barely noticed a spark on a ground point on the firewall while I was looking down at the engine and listening for a starter click. I asked her to turn off the key, hand tightened the nut, and had her try again with success! She was astonished, and wanted to know if I was a local mechanic. Great and very informative training video.,i learned a lot and i appreciate you skills using all you diagnostic tools..looking to learn more from your video uploads..Keep up the good work , am sure a lot of people out there are learning too..very helpful..God bless
May I ask what scanner you are using here? Getting hybrid cell-voltages - nice. Kudos for plumbing through the wiring diagram & schematic. It certainly takes brains, but I think it's your work ethic here that inspires and results in so many viewers. I'd be happy to pay a mechanic to do what you do. You get it done.
I really like the way you explain things it’s very educational to somebody like myself great video in fact I follow your videos all the time now it just shows how somebody or forgets to tighten the nut and bolt can cost somebody else an off a lot of money all the best mate great video
thank you for the very detailed video. do you know any history of the civic? I am working an insight and it has similar issues (IMA/CEL/ flashing d light) but it went through a flood, not sure if you had any information on what might have happened to the car
A very good quality tutorial. You talk a lot and strictly on topic. If I had seen this video some time ago you would have made my life easier. Can you tell me where I can get the electrical diagrama for IMA?
What an awesome diag and fix! Me and my boss we're just talking the other day about how many hours we have both spent on past jobs trying to diagnose an electrical issue only to find a loose wire!! I work on heavy trucks that experience a lot of vibration and abuse so it's somewhat common.........
Hy i always find ur vedio very educative, am working on a similar civic 2007 but not hybrid , main prblm is that battery light, immobolizer key, oil light flash at the same time while driving then the car wil just shut off... any help pls, i hav scanned the car for code nothing really helpful.
You did not get lucky. You put in all the work. You studied the systems. You studied the wiring. You then worked of a diagnostic plan that took you to the loose wiring. Great job

More skill than luck in your case
The most successful story about the work of hybrid blocks! In Russia, hybrid cars are just beginning to appear. Timely video, thanks!
I wish all auto repair shops could be like this especially in LA! Great JOB!! Integrity in mechanics is rare1

Very, very entertaining. Following your thought process is invaluable. One of the best diag videos out there. Brilliant. Thank you.
And i still dont get how scotty kilmer has over a million subscribers. You and the other great technicians like scannerdanner, SMA, PHA, etc deserve it
Luck comes with hard work. Love the clear and detailed description.
First, check the cable !!! This is the lesson we can learn. Thanks for your analysis.
You bet! Thanks for watching!

Yes I was very happy!

Awesome diagnosis and well explanation. Thank you all the way from NEW ZEALAND your videos help me to diagnose many car issue.
Really glad you gave Prof. John Kelly a shout out , , that channel is definitely the best scholastic automotive one that I know of .

Thanks for sharing Bro👍
At first it seemed very critical repair, but really that loose terminal made things easier😉
Stay safe Bro❤

Really impressive lengths you went to to find that loose ground.
Amazing skills and attention to detail, electrical issues tend to baffle me, good job starting at the problem and back tracking to the solution, very impressive.
Thank you
hahahaha. you are not ordinary technician. you are DIAGNOS TECHNICIAN. GOLD TECHNICIAN. NO. 1.!!
GREAT!!!!! ABSOLUTELY.
Great video as usual! I just sold my 2007 Civic hybrid silver 221000. Such a reliable car. The question is, why would you drive a hybrid in Texas?
Fantastic diagnostic video awesome case this is the real-life of a technician on everyday problems. I am sharing your video on my EV page on FaceBook for others to learn well done .
Thank you
Always check the battery terminals first....
For you not to do that I find it to be strange.
Whoever had it before you, I find that to be even stranger.
From an intellectual point of view, I rate it a A+....
Your initial sign of low voltage is an immediate indicator that should take you right to the battery terminals.
Like I said earlier, your very intelligent and I would consider moving up to an instructor position down the road.
Wow man..your diag skills are on point..that’s why I love watching your videos..I always learn something, or a different way to think, and to me that’s priceless..Your planting seeds in the field and best believe they’re growing..on another note, when you got voltage on that relay after tightening the terminal..all I heard was Homer Simpson’s voice cheering Wooohooo!! Haha..Thank you for your knowledge Erik, que Dios te bendiga..See you on the next one brother! 🙏
ALWAYS CHECK THE BASICS.........U SOOOO LUCKY..................WELL DONE...............ALWAYS LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE...................

Haha! Thank you for watching!
Wow, visual inspection is key. Great Job.
Thank you Eric. Another great job. Have a blessed and safe week to you and your family.

i wish i was this smart. great job man. great job
Really liked your determination and way of explanation... I am a new subscriber right away❤❤❤
Thanks for making these videos, helps a lot with understanding diagnosis!
Lucky? Finding the open circuit first would be lucky but then I wouldn't have learned anything! Good job!
LOL.. no.. just a DIY'er in another town. I pointed out the nut for her to tighten when she gets home (no tools there), and she thanked me.
In the Air Force, when working on complicated electronic circuits, the most frustrating problems to solve were intermittent ones, and learned to apply vibration, heat and cold to suspected areas to help find things.
Nice work! Very lucky to have brushed up against that connector and found it loose. Without that chance encounter, you may have been chasing this for awhile! And VERY WELL presented diagnostic steps!
One loose cable. Doesn't matter if it's power or ground. Loose connections cause LOTS of problems! Good Diag and repair!
I like seeing a video of yours popping up on my feed! Keep them coming. 👍
It’s nice to win one once in a while. Good job as always. Thank you for sharing.
K buen video amigaso saludos y gracias por compartir tus conocimientos mis respetos eres genial BENDICIONES
Great and very informative training video.,i learned a lot and i appreciate you skills using all you diagnostic tools..looking to learn more from your video uploads..Keep up the good work , am sure a lot of people out there are learning too..very helpful..God bless

Excellent Video young man, great training session, many thanks Sandy
Glad you enjoyed it
That was cool to watch. Great knowledge combined with the right information & tools. Thankyou 👍
great content about the high voltage unit and wiring 👍👍
May I ask what scanner you are using here? Getting hybrid cell-voltages - nice.
Kudos for plumbing through the wiring diagram & schematic. It certainly takes brains, but I think it's your work ethic here that inspires and results in so many viewers.
I'd be happy to pay a mechanic to do what you do. You get it done.
Fantastic lesson , wow such a simple loose connection can cause so much havoc..nice work brother..
A Good Man with A good 👍 Guiadence thank you for most helpful video I tried and I solved my car problem same like it
You deserve a million view and subscription love it

Thanks for the video Eric it's teach me so much, great 👌 Job .
A very good quality tutorial. You talk a lot and strictly on topic. If I had seen this video some time ago you would have made my life easier. Can you tell me where I can get the electrical diagrama for IMA?
Excellent diagnosis....step by step the best out there!
I have same car and same issue the green flashing light is a faulty sensor for the cvt
You are good Eric. Thank you
I’m glad you are back!
What an awesome diag and fix! Me and my boss we're just talking the other day about how many hours we have both spent on past jobs trying to diagnose an electrical issue only to find a loose wire!!
I work on heavy trucks that experience a lot of vibration and abuse so it's somewhat common.........
