For 4-5k you can go custom shop like Mayones, Kiesel. You want Jackson to make that guitar for the huge price broke guitar fellas simply cant afford? 😂

I love Jackson guitars they are starting to become one of my favorite brands, I recently got a dk modern ash ht7 and I love it becoming one of my favorite 7 strings. Also have a misha model and a Wildcard 27 fret model which are also amazing, Jackson are killing it as of late
Yessss! I invested in one a month ago and love it for so many reasons. With the gauge I ended up using I couldn’t tune higher than drop F lol but a pitch shifter was there when I needed it. Main thing I’m wondering about is how much not having stainless steel frets will be an issue in the long run… Doesn’t matter a whole deal for now at least. Thanks for showing off this masterpiece!
Pulled the trigger on the SL7ET as soon as I had the money and regret nothing :D This guitar is just superb for the price, plus the frets are easily replaceable :D
Great review, I have a ton of respect for your opinions on modern metal guitars. I appreciate you called out that the Josh Smith doesn’t have stainless frets. It is interesting Josh says he prefers nickel when his recent Custom Shop builds all have stainless; I have to imagine it’s a cost decision (which is the RIGHT decision since it includes Evertune and Bareknuckles stock).
Jackson is great. Specially love the rhoads models. Atm thinking of buying the Mark Heylmun signature. I'm not even that big of a fan of Suicide Silence but that guitar looks amazing.
I just got the Jackson Modern DK 7 ET today - what a fucking instrument! It's my first Jackson, first 26.5" scale length guitar and my first guitar with an Evertune. It's eerie how it came perfectly in tune (BEADGbe) and just stays in tune no matter how hard I play. The best thing about it is that it just stays perfectly intonated all the way up the neck - I've never gotten a new guitar that didn't have to be tuned and intonated out of the box a bit. The neck feels good, with the fat Wenge strip providing some texture for the thumb. The shape is similar to my Kiesel Vanquish 7, which is like a shallow-medium-ish C oval. It's not flat like my Ibanez RG, but it's not even close to baseball bat territory either. It just feels RIGHT. The action is fine, but I'll likely lower it when I change strings and tune down. My only gripes are the fact that the volume and tone knobs are a bit uneven on their posts, especially the tone knob. This might have been something that happened in shipping, though. The gig bag is pathetic, especially for a $2,000 guitar, and the top of the headstock looks like it may have punched a hole in the top of the bag (similar to another UA-camr's experience). Not a huge deal because I can just get a nice case when I need to. Lastly, the Fishman Open Core pickups are actually Fishman Fluence Classics - which is confusing. Why would Jackson put Fluence Classics on a modern-style 7-string guitar? They sound fine for cleans, and they're okayish for distortion/chugs, but it would have made much more sense for Moderns to be installed instead of Classics. The Moderns on my Ibanez RG and Kiesel Zeus CHUG and sound amazing in any pickup selection/voice, whether clean or distorted. Honestly, I'm probably going to go the passive route and install some BKPs on this particular guitar. Maybe a Rag/Jug, Jug/Jug like Keyan's or even a Polymath combo. Classics would be good on like a Les Paul or something, not a 7-string beast like this. Oh, and this guy weighs in at 8.2 lbs. Lighter than I was expecting, given the weight of the Evertune.
Just an FYI if anyone's inspired to get the same type of pickups Keyan has in the gold sparkle Jackson: I recently ordered a covered BKP Ragnarok bridge / Juggernaut neck pickups directly from Bare Knuckle, with the intention of installing them in this same exact guitar model, but the guys at BKP wrote me back and said that I'd need to have the pickup cavities routed. The covers are a bit more square in the corners than the stock open pickups, basically. Long story short, I just said forget the covers and go open. Didn't feel like spending the money or having to wait a bit more to modify the guitar that much (just personal preference).
Got a juggernaut et6 for $1000 bucks about 2 months ago and LOVE it. Jackson in general just feels great to play and the knob placement is huge. I hate smacking my fingers into knobs when I really get going.
Something I'd love to see for further playability of guitars under $2k is getting the top of the fretboard closer to the top of the body. The bottom of JP15, Tao, Virtuoso, and some Prestige fretboards basically rest level with the body (there's barely any visible neck wood or none), and they personally feel easier to play because my picking hand is closer to the body itself for more range of physical leverage. Pickguards basically do this as well. A lot of the highly technical players can be seen playing guitars with this design feature. IMO, there's also no reason any guitar over $1k should lack stainless steel frets. They're strictly better than nickel.
Stainless gas it pros and cons. Better looks, no fret dressing, smooth playability. The only cons I can think of is that it's harder on the strings, harder to work on and install of guitars.

I do think Jackson has upped their game in terms of making pragmatic changes (like the location of the volume knobs). However, in the $3K price range, this isn't that compelling of a reason to consider them at the top of the food chain. The challenge is (and always has been) asking what manufacturer makes a guitar that the average player can afford AND that is of sufficient quality that professional artists tour and record with that same "affordable" guitar. Years ago, it was Ibanez who dominated that space, but the best modern example really is the PRS SE line. Mark Holcomb tours with the same PRS SE (save a few mods such as locking tuners) that you can buy for $900. The now out-of-production Clint Lowery SE was another example. I am curious if Jackson has any artists playing sub $1k guitars on tour. If they do, that is the guitar I would say is a stronger argument for saying Jackson makes the best modern guitars.
I agree with this statement 100%. At 3k in 2023, they’re about 2,000 dollars out of the price range for the average guitar player. This also includes touring musicians that are still “underground”. Back when I was touring, we’d never do a show without at least one backup guitar in case our main guitar had an issue. When you’re struggling to make enough money to pay for gas to get from show to show, food and every now and then stay at a hotel so you could sleep in a bed and get a shower outside of a truck stop, a 3,000 dollar guitar just doesn’t make any sense. I own a 2023 Mark Holcomb SE SVN and it feels and plays just as good as guitars that cost twice as much. The only thing I would change and may do in the future is put locking tuners on it. But even without the locking tuners, tuning stability is pretty darn good right if the box. For those of us that can’t drop 3k on a guitar we’ve never put our hands on (as most have to be ordered online as they are not in most music stores) I would recommend the Mark Holcomb SE series, pretty much any LTD from ESP, or any “mid tier” Ibanez before any one of these Jacksons, simply due to cost benefit analysis. Jackson makes great guitars, no doubt, they’re just on the high end.
I don’t think anyone makes a better budget guitar than Jackson, the JS22-7 is one of my favourite guitars and I bought it mostly with Christmas gift cards haha, it was basically $300 and it’s absolutely monstrous.
I want a Jackson like that so bad. Unfortunately, I live in a small town that barely carries more than 1 seven string per store, and they're less than $500 usually :(
Went around the local shops today to find the 6 string version of the MDK. No one had it unfortunately, but next week there should be one of the cheaper pro MDKs that's essentially the same without the evertune and different body woods. If it fits me, I'm getting it. Your endorsment also added to it.
the import tax fucked that guitar for the us market for some reason. In the EU and UK its like $1800 USD. Sucks honestly for jackson cause i dont see many people buying it because of that
I haven't played in almost decade and I found a Jackson seven string for about 140 dollars brand new with that sick headstock.when I got it I could play distant's first album tyranotopia I think I spelled that right and it amazed me how far guitar technology has come I could not tell the difference mabey it's just my ears but man I will get some Stephen fishman fluences soon for it I wanted to buy a solar and i have the money but I'm torn between buying a SLAT 7
Finally someone figured out the right distance between the pickup and the bridge. Other brands install it too far away apart from Gibson which is perfect
I don’t know about that. I just returned Javier Reyes 8 string. It was just not a very good guitar at all and the case came in broken with a weird white washing on the fretboard. It to me was very typical of LTD.
For someone that loves to play with…what a lot would consider ridiculous loose strings, as in 56 or EASILY 60 for G (on a 25 1/2), will the evertune need slightly larger gauges? Never used one but as a purchase for a studio workhorse, I’d love this model. Just wondering if it would be better to go with the hardtail or evertune with my ridiculous string gauges I choose. Thanks for all the videos! (Never paid Jackson too much mind within the past few years, Ibanez was doing fine but I’m not supporting them until they can give you a brand new guitar with SS frets and locking tuners AT LEAST. They’re starting to even have $12-1300 guitars without that AND not even a COMPLIMENTARY GIG BAG! So anything on that and how it’s held up now that some time has passed with any QC issues.
Been really interested in getting a Jackson recently. Mainly an Ibanez guy really. Only downside to some of Jackson's models is the price, they're a little pricey for the features compared to the features/price point from Ibanez. With that being said, I REALLY want that gold sparkle finish guitar. 😅
I played the Josh Smith sig the other day, possibly the ultimate modern metal guitar. It is definitely very steep price wise for a factory guitar though.
Misha gotta make a Pro Plus line with Jackson with that 20” radius, stainless steel frets and Evertune. They would slam the door of best Modern Metal guitar with that
The specs of that Jackson Evertune 7 are perfect me. But man, I just can't with that sparkle gold. It's a shame both the silverburst isn't available on both, seems a bit strange to relegate each guitar to only 1 loud finish.
Finally a good sounding bare Knuckle impulse tone. It never sounds tight like this, thats why i tend to prefer the black hawk although it doesn't sound as thick

Jackson is too expensive for the QC for me. Not risking it and not spending more than $2k on a guitar. That said, both those guitars have fantastic finishes
They literally just released a whole new line of about 8 guitars that all had stainless steel frets. It’s called the Pro Plus line, the gold guitar in this video is from that line
2.5K+ guitar without Stainless steel frets? C'mon man. ESP / LTD, Solar, Schecter and Ibanez are cheaper with all the bells and whistles. Their quality is also more consistent than Jackson. So, no. Jackson does not make the best modern guitars, far from it.
Dont get ahead of yourself. Yes as of late jackson released few new cool models for the modern metal/core player but its too early for statements like yours. Years and years jacksons models were orientated for the shredders and deathmetal, classic metal in one word boomers. Lets not forget the quality issues of their import models. We see a change of directions now lets where they end up. Ibanez and Esp are the trend setters for modern guitars and every other brand follow what they do. This is the truth.
im sorry but those guitars are super over priced for made in indonesia and still having stock tuners no special woods or anything its a nice guitar but here for 1800 euros i mean were looking at a ibanez japanese prestige guitar for less at that price point or for a little more with top specs
It's not Jackson though. It's Fender using another brand to put out modern Fender lines without "tarnishing" the vintage vibe of their name. What made the soul of Jackson guitars up until they left Chushin Gakki is gone. Just look at the RR line. And they're overpriced and under spec'd compared to LTD which offers 1000 series floyds and SS frets for way, way less money.
Any recommendations for a £500-800 budget? Ive been an ibanez fan tor years but looking at trying a Jackson. A lot of the guitars that i like the soecs for are £1k+ and i just cant justify paying that much just for something thats a hobby

I don't get why even top of the line Jackson guitars have a headstock piece glued to the neck creating a structural weak spot. Ibanez had necks with carved out headstocks for decades now even on cheaper models.

I know what to expect from Indonesia, Japan and Made in USA (not American), but I have no idea about Korea and China. I ordered the Dinky 7 string off Amazon for 200 bucks, restrung it with 60-10's, and tuned it down to A standard.
Have you tried John Browne’s signature Schecters ? Their specs are equally impressive for the price.

Been really interested in getting a Jackson recently. Mainly an Ibanez guy really. Only downside to some of Jackson's models is the price, they're a little pricey for the features compared to the features/price point from Ibanez.
With that being said, I REALLY want that gold sparkle finish guitar. 😅
They should consider putting specs like these on anything other than a super strat
I played the Josh Smith sig the other day, possibly the ultimate modern metal guitar. It is definitely very steep price wise for a factory guitar though.

But man, I just can't with that sparkle gold.
It's a shame both the silverburst isn't available on both, seems a bit strange to relegate each guitar to only 1 loud finish.
Finally a good sounding bare Knuckle impulse tone. It never sounds tight like this, thats why i tend to prefer the black hawk although it doesn't sound as thick

God i regret taking the Juggernauts out of my 7 string. Sick video man. I had the chance to try Josh's sig a little while back and it was one of the best necks i've ever felt.

"Bolt on guitars are snappier". This lie started with Misha years ago and other guitar players regurgitate this statement. It IS snappier when the guitar is unplugged. That's about it. There's a reason no one has a video proving it.
The only personal turn off is the radius. I'm a fan of 20"

Jackson is too expensive for the QC for me. Not risking it and not spending more than $2k on a guitar.
That said, both those guitars have fantastic finishes

They literally just released a whole new line of about 8 guitars that all had stainless steel frets. It’s called the Pro Plus line, the gold guitar in this video is from that line

ESP / LTD, Solar, Schecter and Ibanez are cheaper with all the bells and whistles.

Dont get ahead of yourself. Yes as of late jackson released few new cool models for the modern metal/core player but its too early for statements like yours. Years and years jacksons models were orientated for the shredders and deathmetal, classic metal in one word boomers. Lets not forget the quality issues of their import models. We see a change of directions now lets where they end up. Ibanez and Esp are the trend setters for modern guitars and every other brand follow what they do. This is the truth.

im sorry but those guitars are super over priced for made in indonesia and still having stock tuners no special woods or anything its a nice guitar but here for 1800 euros i mean were looking at a ibanez japanese prestige guitar for less at that price point or for a little more with top specs

nickel frets - hard pass
It's not Jackson though. It's Fender using another brand to put out modern Fender lines without "tarnishing" the vintage vibe of their name. What made the soul of Jackson guitars up until they left Chushin Gakki is gone. Just look at the RR line.
And they're overpriced and under spec'd compared to LTD which offers 1000 series floyds and SS frets for way, way less money.
Any recommendations for a £500-800 budget? Ive been an ibanez fan tor years but looking at trying a Jackson. A lot of the guitars that i like the soecs for are £1k+ and i just cant justify paying that much just for something thats a hobby

I don't get why even top of the line Jackson guitars have a headstock piece glued to the neck creating a structural weak spot. Ibanez had necks with carved out headstocks for decades now even on cheaper models.

Got say in terms of bass jackson is very lacking. They seem behind every other brand such as schecter or ibanez in terms of features.
I like everything except the shape of the headstock. Purely for me, the classic head is unsightly. Something more modern, like the MM series, went better.
no problem with the “best” statement. but for $2700 made in Korea, nickel frets… I cannot justify the purchase of this. maybe Korea QC is fine, but I do not trust it as a customer. I know what to expect from Indonesia, Japan and Made in USA (not American), but I have no idea about Korea and China.
E-II M-II 7B BARITONE EVERTUNE looks more reasonable investment approaching $3K price point.
