I really want to start a "$20 or less" edh playgroup. You could essentially play something new every couple of weeks. Love the series and this particular brew looks like a ton of fun.
Every Tuesday mu LGS does ultra budget commander. $30 then $2 a week that can go up depending on how you do. Its an 8 week league. We use goldfish for deck pricing.
You mean go from Pauper to Penny Dreadful? (Penny Dreadful is a magic format where the only legal cards cost 1 cent if I remember correctly)... Imagine an EDH deck costing $1 or less not counting shipping! Is it possible? I don't know, but I expect if anyone can find a way it's Mitch.
@@skirk248 True, their cards are slightly pricier off of mtgo in most places. But I actually tested the thought recently. And built a sample Penny legal EDH deck on Untap.in which goes by cardkingdom price. I made a couple different decks actually -- one with Wort the Raidmother and another with Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker, which are both Penny legal. The Wort deck came out to only $5 and the Shirei build was only $7. And of course on MTGO they'd cost under $1. Even accounting for slight bump ups in price, using heavily played and damaged cards in price optimization, a Penny EDH does turn out to be in the right range. Although Wayfarer's Bauble isn't legal as far as I know, so I suppose that's a downside. :P
Ferdi the Tank I’ll take the over, it’ll never be banned. It’s a 7 mana do nothing creature enchantment till your next turn. It’s easy to kill and doesn’t win on its own. It’ll be fun in a more casual setting sure, but a deck like marwyn or other huge mana decks by turn 7 they usually have already made a ton of mana and done whatever it is they are going to do.
Almost! There are 10 legendary mono green elves - but if you just want ALL the legendary elves, a Morophon deck can have all 39 of them! With each legend’s unique effects, that deck would probably end up as good old elf ball:P Or with an elf at the helm, Kethis can have 26 others, with Legendary synergy.
There are a hand full that really wouldn't be that effect in the duo color area but I could see this being one fun deck. All elf. 1 and 2 drop ramp n tutors. I see it being SIMIC heavy so card draw and land find as well. Maybe a mild turns undertone to fill in the elf army.
I bought this deck list minus forests for just about $20 here in July 2021, I have had the chance to play it a couple times and it is a really fun deck to play with. It is definitely a deck that you either will lose by turn five or hang in for a while until you just destroy your opponent with 500 trample damage lol. I am pretty new to magic so I think this deck has really helped me plan out my plays so I maximize the potential of each turn I take. Overall really happy with the deck so far and am excited to see how it does in games with more than one opponent because I think that is when it will really shine since I wont always be the target. Love the channel and wish you would still post these kinds of videos as most of the older videos are not anywhere near the price of the deck when the video was made.
Mitch, thank you for working with me in getting me involved in the kickstarter at the last minute last month. It says a ton about your character that you went so far out of your way to help me out. Thank you so much. Looking forward to the playmat arriving and finding all those Easter eggs!
I just tested this out on a program i have. super intuitive and explosive. I can't believe the cost of it. I even have some of the older cards thanks to my dad's old collection. Thanks.
There actually another infinite mana combo in this, if you have malachite talisman, revive, regrowth, and a Marwyn with power six or greater. Tap Marwyn for 6, cast regrowth or revive targeting something, pay three to untap Marwyn, then cast the other return spell targeting the first, which triggers the talisman which I taps Marwyn and yeah, just repeat that...
I'm loving those so much! At first, I wasn't the greatest fan of the budget raise on the main series, but then I realised how cooler the decks could be, and now we got those ultra budget decks too! You're doing great Mitch! Keep it up!
Hey Mitch, I got most of these cards together and built the deck. They had Marwyn but in foil for about 2 bucks. Got a few cards from a 50 cent foil bin and the others from another store. Had a few that i added in which i have been accumulating such as Triumph of the Horde and an umbral mantle that I have had since shadowmoor came out. Played the deck for the first time in a 4 person game and wouldn't you know it, I won. Beautiful job on this deck and the others you create. In playtesting, season of growth and one of my newly favorite cards, Return of the Wildspeaker, seem a bit broken. Anyways, i know this was long but wanted to let you and others know about my first game with it. Thanks again..!! P.S. the other decks were Omnath Locus of Rage, Lord Windgrace, and Sedris, the traitor King. Won with only playing a total of 4 mana and being stuck with 2 for the first 5 turns; killed one with commander damage and the other with Life spring/ Hurricane combo.
I’ve actually been playing Marwyn for a while and in my list I run a couple of mana sinks such as Ezuri, and umbral mantel/swords of the paruns as my big finishers, my list is about $39 and she really is an amazing commander for budget players. Also triumph of the hordes is a solid finisher ;)
Guilherme Freire I don’t have an online list and my paper one is ever changing, but this video probably has about 80 cards that overlap with this, just a couple other fun pet cards that I enjoy
I love Marwyn - she's actually my desktop background right now. A nifty budget option for her is Pollenbright Druid - 2 1/1 counters on Marwyn means it's net neutral in terms of mana for the term, but can potentially proliferate other counters on your creatures, too. Other nice 2-power boosts for 2 mana include Dwynen's Elite and Elvish Clancaller. Timberwatch Elf is amazing for her, though obviously meant for more elf-centric builds. Works well with the untap theme in the deck, though. A very non-budget but incredible card for her is Finale of Devastation. Being able to tutor, recur from graveyard, and go wide victory pump/haste in a single card is bonkers (especially with recursion to get it multiple times).
Hey, man! How's everything? First, thanks a lot for all the work and effort you put into making your videos. Second, if you had to make this decktech again today, what changes would you make? I saw you answered another comment saying that Colossification would be an add now. What card would you remove in order to have it and what other changes would you make? Thanks in advance
One creature that can work wonder in this kind of deck is "Wolfbriar Elemental", which is a 4/4 Elemental for "2GG" (G = Green); has "Multikicker G" and "When it enters the battlefield, create a 2/2 Wolf creature token for each time it was kicked." In the events we can't use Marwyn to finish off our opponents, we can certainly make an army to overwhelm them. This card is also budget... Well not as budget as the rest of the deck, but can definitely fit the bill.
Good to see one of my favorite Dominaria commanders get some love. Would like to see how you would build Hallar with pumping him up and using Kicker spells

This deck looks so sick, and super creative! I loved your K'rrik deck tech and bought that deck and it's been great for me with a few upgrades, definitely picking this one up!
I like adding reliquary tower. If you have enough draw spells, you can take advantage of it and it will enable some multi turn kills that might not have been possible otherwise. I also like having access to staples like Beast Within, but budget is important. Desert Twister is some pretty sick green tech. It’s an old card and it allows you to blow up one of anything. Pretty good.
i love this build, some upgrades im going to do that are great include a green trifecta i put in every green deck, Yeva Natures herald(because flash), Seedborn Muse and Winter orb. being able to freeze everybody up and just untap and flash around the orb is amazing. i also love the politics of Ursapine, pumping others characters and effecting combat for my benefit. some other additions i will include are once upon a time, and Grothama, because hes just too much fun. love our channel man! on another note i followed your Lyzolda deck to a T and have been winning like crazy. thanks
This deck made me do a double take on the 2 copies of helix pinnacle I bought for 30 cents each a few years ago. I had no idea it had gone up so much, and I look forward to jamming one into a deck like this.
Not a small request (tons of work, tons of investment in time, possibly expensive for equipment) but would you be willing to in the future do a once month or quarterly video playing some decks. Loved the spike feeders episode, but obviously not asking you to travel to winnipeg. Dont hate anyone that much to ask them to travel to winnipeg. (Went to high school in manitoba)
Tried to buy this deck through your affiliate link to support and because this looked like a fun deck choose the upgrade version and the deck came up to about 46.00 please if you can remind people just in case about shipping cost I was extremely Disheartened about not getting it due to shipping costs. Oh wow, I dozed off mid video! I hate working 3rd shift 😓 Digressing, I've never used Marwin as a commander just because I felt like Freyalise was more stable, but this deck's definitely got style 😁👍👍
My experience with elf Tribal is that it explodes early game, but it has very few chances to recover if it gets board whiped, and it will, just because the best value of targeted board whipe is usually on a player who has more permanents than anyone else.
Love the videos! I like seeing all the different decks I might try out in the future. If you find the time, I would love to see a deck tech on Sidisi, Brood Tyrant.
I love the ultra budget but I love marwyn and would love a follow up on budget elves it's also not expensive and has some cheap nuts you can probably build a good one and somehow force a hoof in the deck and still be in budget
I took her into a elf tribal direction. It's less budget but works really well. Some infinite combos that can work on a budget: Marwyn w/4 power + Umbral Mantle Marwyn w/4 power + Sword of the Paruns Marwyn w/enough power + 1 Random Elf + Temur Sabertooth + Wirewood Symbiote : infinite mana and infinite ETB effects of the Random Elf. Without Marwyn: Argothian Elder + Wirewood Lodge + Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx / Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun /Land with Elvish Guidance and 1 other elf. Karametra's Acolyte w/at least 4 devotion + Umbral Mantle / Sword of the Paruns Arbor Elf + Forest enchanted with Elvish Guidance and 3 other elves in play + Umbral Mantle / Sword of the Paruns Elvish Archdruid / Priest of Titania with 3 other elves + Umbral Mantle / Sword of the Paruns Temur Sabertooth + Wirewood Symbiote + 1 Big Mana Tap Elf + 1 Random Elf to Bounce: 1. Tap the Big Mana Tap Elf for big mana. 2. Use Symbiote to untap the Big Mana Tap Elf and bounce the Random Elf. 3. Tap the Big Mana Tap Elf for big mana again. 4. Use Temur to bounce the Symbiote to your hand. 5. Recast the Random Elf and the Symbiote then rinse and repeat. (This combo also gives infinite ETB effects of the Random Elf.) Once you have Infinite Mana: Duskwatch Recruiter : draw out all the creatures in your deck Temur Sabertooth : aka "Combo Kitty" combos with ANY ETB effect creatures. Wincons: -Squall Line and Hurricane. If you're running Wellwisher/Essence Warden it's gg. -Aggro Route: Nylea, God of the Hunt , Ezuri, Renegade Leader , Assault Formation , Craterhoof Behemoth
not sure if it was missed due to it being over cost, as I don't know how much it is, I was expecting to see Instill Energy in this deck, an Aura that gives haste and one free extra untap on each of your turns
biogenic upgrade could help out with any +1/+1 counters, or at least give marwyn 6 counters. predatory hunger could also help if you get marwyn out early enough to make her like a taurean mauler. a vg condition nantuko mentor could fit in the deck as well for doubling the power.
Great job I run a Marwyn deck but blew the budget a long time ago. Some suggestions for reasonable upgrades Killer Bees, Seeker of sky break, umbral mantle, and guardian project
I ran across this card in my collection recently while looking for a potential mono green commander. It would be fun to make this deck but sadly I am too crap at math to hold big numbers in my head and would be a boor to play with. Seems a lot of mono green commanders make big mana in fun ways but I’m too stupid to get the benefit of it. Thanks for these penny-pinching deck techs that give old and used cards a new home. 😊
Hey got a question, not sure how to ask you, but what is your opinion on snow-lands? Should those be included in the cost of a budget deck? My friends and I have some rules for budget decks where the budget, commander inclusive is something like $30, and basic lands do not count toward that budget. But we've recently been arguing if basic snow lands should be included in the cost of a deck, because they are basic, but they do have some powerful synergies if built around. Any thoughts on this?
Needs a bit more regenerate all creatures or regenerate target creature effects to avoid blow-outs where you target a creature with a sorcery or aura and an opponent removes it in response. Upgrades could include ways to grant hexproof to creatures like swiftfoot boots and asceticism.
Last night. Sat down looking over my collection deciding if i could make a Marwyn deck work. Wake up this morning. See this. Well i guess that's that then 🤷♂️
Might I suggest Hydra's Growth as a reasonable upgrade? 2 and a Green to put a 1/1 counter on target creature, then double the 1/1 counters every upkeep. Runs about .70 on tcgplayer.
Mosswort bridge has been pretty budget for a while now. If you wanna build this deck from scratch definetely include it, personal recommendation to you dear reader :D
Man I love your videos, I'm just getting into the game and I'm all about budget. Sadly for me alot of your deck techs I'm interested in are more expensive because the videos are older so the prices have changed . Anyways love the videos can't wait for more deck techs
hoo wee this deck minus forests now is running almost $40 ... still a great budget option ofc. It's neat to see how some of these cards have gone up so much since this vid was posted, and other cards that were on the pricey side (Return of the Wildspeaker) have been reprinted and have become cheaper.
Cool deck, although I think you missed a really good enchantment untapper + semi-haste giver in green : Instill energy. Although it doesn't allow you to tap her the turn she comes into play. It is also a cheap card. :)
Umbral Mantle is a fantastic upgrade to this deck as it lets Marwyn generate infinite green mana. There are also other elves you can run like Viridian Joiner who combo the same way with Umbral Mantle.
I think this might be my next commander. My current mono green is Multani, cuz he smashes face. But this looks fun. Also, why no instill energy? One green for a free untap every turn?!
Marwyn has the craziest body armor. I like to think that whenever she gets a counter she is strapping another baby elf to her chest.
can't unsee
"honey go jump on the nice lady over there" "okay mommy" *fireball hits Marwyn* "nice one honey"
Another upgrade is sword of the paruns. Goes infinite as long as marwyn is 4/4 or bigger.

Finally a elf (ish) deck that I want to play. I recently sorted all of my commons but I'm pretty sure I could build 80% of this deck today.
I love the ultra budget but I love marwyn and would love a follow up on budget elves it's also not expensive and has some cheap nuts you can probably build a good one and somehow force a hoof in the deck and still be in budget
100 cards for just over 10 bucks, its such a steal! Thanks for this deck tech!
I took her into a elf tribal direction. It's less budget but works really well. Some infinite combos that can work on a budget:
Marwyn w/4 power + Umbral Mantle
Marwyn w/4 power + Sword of the Paruns
Marwyn w/enough power + 1 Random Elf + Temur Sabertooth + Wirewood Symbiote : infinite mana and infinite ETB effects of the Random Elf.
Without Marwyn:
Argothian Elder + Wirewood Lodge + Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx / Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun /Land with Elvish Guidance and 1 other elf.
Karametra's Acolyte w/at least 4 devotion + Umbral Mantle / Sword of the Paruns
Arbor Elf + Forest enchanted with Elvish Guidance and 3 other elves in play + Umbral Mantle / Sword of the Paruns
Elvish Archdruid / Priest of Titania with 3 other elves + Umbral Mantle / Sword of the Paruns
Temur Sabertooth + Wirewood Symbiote + 1 Big Mana Tap Elf + 1 Random Elf to Bounce:
(This combo also gives infinite ETB effects of the Random Elf.)
Once you have Infinite Mana:
Duskwatch Recruiter : draw out all the creatures in your deck
Temur Sabertooth : aka "Combo Kitty" combos with ANY ETB effect creatures.
Wincons:
-Squall Line and Hurricane. If you're running Wellwisher/Essence Warden it's gg.
-Aggro Route: Nylea, God of the Hunt , Ezuri, Renegade Leader , Assault Formation , Craterhoof Behemoth
Would really like to see an Ezuri, renegade leader budget deck! Love these budget deck techs please never stop
not sure if it was missed due to it being over cost, as I don't know how much it is, I was expecting to see Instill Energy in this deck, an Aura that gives haste and one free extra untap on each of your turns
Loving these crushing quaters decks mitch. Maybe do a jank build some time and call it scratching quaters? I know you can use Angus McKenzie .
These are such a great place to start with an EDH deck and it allows individual players to upgrade them on our own
biogenic upgrade could help out with any +1/+1 counters, or at least give marwyn 6 counters. predatory hunger could also help if you get marwyn out early enough to make her like a taurean mauler. a vg condition nantuko mentor could fit in the deck as well for doubling the power.
Bought this immediately when i saw the video. Can’t wait to mess around this deck later this week.
I was watching your Lavinia budget video when the notification appeared haha amazing!
Loving those BC they are also afordable in Brazil
This is like 80% my home brew and I extremely approve. I went a more protected/ plus 1 plus 1 route.
See this. Well i guess that's that then 🤷♂️
I hope you've got someone helping you with the videos now, you've been working overtime!
Might I suggest Hydra's Growth as a reasonable upgrade? 2 and a Green to put a 1/1 counter on target creature, then double the 1/1 counters every upkeep. Runs about .70 on tcgplayer.
Hydras growth, marwyn (probably spelling that wrong), nyxbloom ancient. Feel true fear.
Was going to suggest 'return of the wildspeaker' but then noticed it's a whopping 50 cents now, can't go in this deck 😄.
I would love it if you did a video where you played some of your budget decks against each other. Why haven't you been on The Command Zone yet??
hoo wee this deck minus forests now is running almost $40 ... still a great budget option ofc. It's neat to see how some of these cards have gone up so much since this vid was posted, and other cards that were on the pricey side (Return of the Wildspeaker) have been reprinted and have become cheaper.
I play Marwyn elf ball and there is nothing better than a 30+ Hurricane win. I usually rely on wellwisher for the lifegain!
Could you make a deck thats good against a blue deck. Or a deck around Thraxos, scourge of krooge
I feel like Conquerer's Galieon should be on a Budget alternatives video soon if it isn't already. So much value from that card
My favorite deck I own is marwyn elf tribal, but this deck is sweet and gave me some ideas for that deck as well
Keep up the great content
I think this might be my next commander. My current mono green is Multani, cuz he smashes face. But this looks fun. Also, why no instill energy? One green for a free untap every turn?!
These are the best, thank you Mitch. Also, i cant wait for new Theros Decks hopefully
This video is great. It has some tools that I want to use in an Atla deck.
