yes and no. If you are making use of Oathsworn Vampire then i'd say yes. Otherwise the 3 mana investment is too much and you have to remember that K'rrik doesn't do "card advantage" that well so your literally better off with Pristine Talismen.
If you're playing this deck running Sanguine Bond, be on the lookout for the card Exquisite Blood. It can be a little pricey but it combos with Bond to win you the game.
Two suggestions : Withering Wisps and Null Profusion. Withering Wisps is essentially a cheaper Pestilence provided you play snow-covered swamps. Null Profusion is an insane card drawing engine. Sure, you can only have two cards in hand a EoT, but given that you're already spewing out your hand with K'rrik, it's hardly an issue. Also, if you add a Reliquary Tower to the mix, the drawback becomes inconsequential. A card that sees little play but that really finds its rightful place here.
Withering Wisps and Pestillence are not really played because they are enchantments and people run Pestilence Demon because with Lifelink and Vampiric Link it becomes a win con. i thought of Null Profusion as well but the problem is getting around the maximum hand size restriction, paying that 6 generic mana, and still having things you can "play" because once you have no cards in hand and this enchantment on field your turn becomes "do i attack or not" and if anyone removes anything off your field sending to graveyard or exile your basically out of the game.
yeah got that fun little combo in as well, just havent gotten to cast it yet. A fun "variant" for the Rush of Vitality is Eternal Thirst - also gives the Demon lifelink, but instead of flat out indestructible it makes it grow for everything that dies (which can be quite deadly in a somewhat creature-heavy board/meta if and when you also get to swing with the Demon). Rush of Vitality is probably better, but thought I'd mention the other one as well :-)
Nice value strat but it still leaves you open to getting wiped by the time you get that setup. No mention of Isocron Scepter? In MY OPINION you should ONLY run Pestilence Demon if your already running most every way to provide Lifelink and Vampiric Link. While Rush of Vitality provides Lifelink, the reason you run that card is because of the Indestructible until end of turn, and as of this comment there are 4 of those now. Unless you are using Helm of Awakening or Jet Medallion, however, your better off using the alternatives such as "Demonic Vigor" and "Malakir Rebirth" (Zendikar Rising) and DO NOT USE "Undying Evil" on K'rrk.
I run Gary with cards to reoccur him such as Kayas ghost form. Wake the dead. Doomed necromancer and whip of erebos. Can easily drain 40+ life in a single interaction with a proper sac outlet
I agree, Gary should had been the "Golden Pig" of the deck and there's enough reanimation cards Mitch could had used to lean more on using Gary. Repay in Kind is a neat card that K'rrk can actually minipulate but it's easier to stop and interact with opposed to the myriad of reanimation cards in the game. There are also other creatures that can be made use of that benifit from this strat if you lose Gary and black is one of the colors that likes to discard cards so there's a work=around if you don't have Buried Alive nor Entomb. Just remember there are 2 artifacts that also provde "discard a card".
I started off with the $50 deck and recently bought cards to fully kit it out to about $125ish. It’s brutal and pulls wins out of nowhere. It’s my current favourite deck and is slowly replacing my Slivers as my main deck.
Neat, User Villis's ability to draw 4 cards, use Skirge's ability to discard a card activating Faith of the Devoted and using that generated black mana to drain everyone as you gain back the life you lost. So you end up stabilized at a life point while draining your opponents as long as you have cards you can draw. I give this win con a jank score of 40%, find another use for "faith of the Devoted".
@@MageSkeleton Shadow of the Grave combined with every B:Cycle card gives another chunk of juice. It is not the primary WinCon but it will strip an easy 20 from ppl.
Thanks for sharing this. I saw this commander and wanted to make a cheap deck and you just so happen to make it. I used your link and got everything. I love the idea of it
Last night I piloted a zombie tribal variant of K'rrik. Let me tell you: Disturbed Burial (with Buyback) is one of the most broken budget cards around, and I can't believe it's not in this deck tech. Being able to cycle sacrifice and recursion on Fleshbag Marauder, Sidisi, Death's Vizier, Gravedigger, and Gary is insane. Make your opponents sac their hexproof and indestructible creatures while tutoring your best cards and draining them with your board over, and over, and over....
I started making a K'rrik deck last night that uses Endrek Sahr and Ashnod's Altar to generate lots of colorless mana and drain them out with Zulaport cutthroat effects.
What creature are you "Casting into play" to generate these creatures? Anceint Stone Idol? That would be neat if Crashing Drawbrige (Throne of Eldraine) was available at this time, neat budget win con. Ashnods Altar is about $5, Anceint Stone Idol is a 20c card, Endrek Sahr is about $2, Crashing Drawbridge is a 20c card. So you first need Endrek Sahr in play, then you cast Anceint Stone Idol which gets you 4 Black Thrull creature tokens, then Anceint Stone Idol bounces back to your hand. Then you use Ashnod's Altar to sacrifice 2 Black Thrulls and recast Anceint Stone Idol netting plus 2 each time. I don't know of any alternatives to any of these peices so i give this combo a 100% fragile score. If you want a better way of Infinate mana, you will actually need access to your graveyard where that other combo doesn't need the graveyard. First you need Ashnod's Altar, then you need Ebon Hold Initiate, Carrian Feeder or other Zombie Creature with "Sacrifice a creature" (as of this comment there are 5 including Carrian Feeder) and either Gravecrawler or Oathsorn Vampire with Jet Medallion or Bontu's Monument or Helm of Awakening in play. Just remember that Ebonhold Initiate dies after you filter more than certain mana through him at end of turn.
i've discovered that you'd rather K'rrk get sent to the command zone and just focus on "mana ramp". Kaya's Ghostform is not a terrible idea only because it synergizes. And there are other cards that do not actually provide indestructble you can run if you feel you need those effects. Just do not run "Undying Evil".
sensei's divining top should be mentioned in upgrades next to doomlaser. If you have those two and bolas' citadel, that's a pseudo-infinite life/laser combo. keep replaying the top for 1 life and gain increasing life each time.
Just discorvered a hidden gem from born of the gods that would go great in this and maybe a new quest for quarters episode but its called sanguimancy. It draws cards and loses life equal to your devotion to black for 4 and a black and in this deck that devotion could be any number but almost never low.
This is why i decided to go through the comments section. Sanguimancy is a great idea especially if somehow you have Jet Medallion and/or Helm of Awakening to reduce it's casting cost.
with all the incidental life gain and running sanguine bond, Exquisite Blood should also be considered, although it is $25. This is due to the vast amount of incidental life gain that you could loop with Sanguine Bond to to just drain everyone out.
This is really awesome and I happen to have a lot of these cards, but my playgroup would murder me if I put this together! Would love to see a Korvold deck, think it might pose some good challenges for you.
Hey Commander's Quarters, great video I'm a big fan of the channel. You've really helped with my deck building skills. I had an idea for a deck tech, what about a Kenrith, the Returned King tech? You could go five color humans or find a way to abuse his abilities, especially the reanimation ability.
Funnily, this kind of idea is something I've done with fellas like Vona the Butcher or Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim. Also, I have an Oloro deck based around cards like Axis of Mortality to swap life totals and cause mayhem on the table
It would be more feasable with Vito, the Dusk Rose which is a new Legendary creature long after when this video was made. K'rrk doesn't have enough life gain unless you somehow get Zulaport or Blood Artist enchanted or equiped with lifelink which is too much expendeture.
Mitch, I don't know how I feel about making "Repay in Kind" the Golden Pig, this deck has so much life gain in it; than adding aetherflux reservoir as another contradictory win con at the very end? This deck seems less "focused" than usual. The phrase "we're going to gain so much life" doesn't mesh well with Repay in Kind unless we also have a black mana dumps to get back down low instead of one spell at a time.
There are a few cards that let you drop your life fast, with the commanders ability the cards that let you, pay 3 life to get a mana, pay 4 life to draw a card and the pay 2 life to deal everything 1 damage. also with citidel you can pay life as CMC to cast, so there are a few ways. You are also consistently paying life so I imagine you are usually not gaining that much once its all said and done.
@@agafaba Please get it right, when you pay 2 life to pay the cost of Pestillence or Pestillence Demon you are losing 3 life each time (1 of the 3 being damage) so unless you have Glacial Chasm in play your effectively paying 3 life to do 1 damage to each creature and opponent.
@@MageSkeleton you only pay two life though, I did say to everything, and you are included in everything. Minor correction though, pay two life to deal 1 damage to everything in your current game of magic, no nearby players in other games are affected.
@@MageSkeleton also it isn't to each opponent, it would be pay 3 to deal one to each other player. The distinction is small but matters for team games.
Trisk is dangerous - you're paying life - A LOT of life. This is another spot your opponents can kill you at - and if you're at 15, and pass, your opponent only needs to shock you. And that isn't hard.
I run my version of this deck with a demons theme around lilianas contract. Devotion and spells with 3-4 pure swamp costs. Kykthos taps for a flood of mana. Grave crawler and Gisa combo to make endless zombies each turn. Gary and abhorrent overlord can be win cons alone. As is Sorin markov A cheap interaction I had fun with was pestilence demon. Loxodon warhammer. And overseer of the damned. Each untap step I would trigger 4x and now down a handful of creatures and make more zombies
What is "Kykthos?" Ghoulcaller Gisa has to tap to cause that effect, so she's too slow and would need haste to "turn on". Abhorrent Overlord rewards you for having devotion to black and gives you alot of creatures yes, but that's all it does. Gary doesn't interact with tokens at all because tokens have devotion 0. Sorin Markov is a "fixer" and a nice option. Pestilence Demon can be given Lifelink through many ways, and with Vampiric Link it turns into a win con. Overseer of the Damned is a neat demon also, but tokens only win games when you have haste. Crashing Drawbridge (Throne of Eldraine) finally answers this, however, Overseer gives you tapped zombie tokens.
...now I feel like an idiot for missing Soul Conduit when building my K'rrik deck (which is inspired by your quick take from a while ago, so thanks for that as well!). Probably even better in my take on it than this one, because I happened to have a decent chunk of the Monoblack Ramp package lying around in an old mothballed 60 card deck (things like Nirkana Revenant, Crypt Ghast, Cabal Coffers, Magus of the Coffers and a Gauntlet of Power for good measure), so getting to 12 mana isnt actually all that hard for my deck. With those I kinda run a side-theme of generic "it's big and it's black and it's good and it kills you", not nearly as focused on the draining/combo aspect as yours is but with a bit more variety and options. Very fun and powerful commander for sure - before the first game I played with it, a friend of mine kind of dismissed it as a semi-good deck at first glance, and it proceeded to prove him wrong very thoroughly :-)
Awesome video, Mitch 😎 I’d suggest giving Pestilence Demon lifelink for a ton of it, maybe w. Whip of Erebos/Vampiric Link as others have suggested In your humble opinion; is Dread Presence too weak?
Played this deck today with my group. It is gross. If you are able to tutor for necropotence, repay in kind and any drain spell you can combo off and win. Great stuff!!
Follow up on this comment. I brought this deck to my work play group and it best an entire table of 7-9ish power level decks that were very expensive. Really shows that sometimes good deck building is just as good as spending a lot of cash :D
I just don't like how fragile "repay in kind" is. If it fails to cast via getting countered your entire strat is shut down and you have to had lowered your health low upon casting it to cause everyone else's life totals low. Which means you could end up passing the turn with 1-5 life turn 1 or 2.
Life is a great resource, but you need a way to make their creatures attack you so your comander can eat them and gain you life I think there is imp that you tap and make Target creature attack if able

I run Rush of Vitality with Pestilence demon, its kinda auto include in k'rrik deck imo.
yeah got that fun little combo in as well, just havent gotten to cast it yet. Rush of Vitality is probably better, but thought I'd mention the other one as well :-)
I use rush of vitality on Pestilence Demon, and eternal thirst on K'rikk. That way, massive commander if needed.
Pestilence Demon + Basilisk Collar + Blessing of Leeches = board wipe on a stick with lifegain = winning
Supernatural Stamina
I’d also recommend putting in phrexian obliterater as an upgrade
As of this comment that's a $20 card.
MageSkeleton As an upgrade
MageSkeleton he mentioned Necropotents As an upgrade and that’s a $25 card
Love it, I'm a huge fan of this Commander as well as a fan of Black - thanks for making this.
I think Gary could easily be the golden pig, as this deck really likes devotion
I like the way you did the upgrades this time. Very specific. Great video.
I started off with the $50 deck and recently bought cards to fully kit it out to about $125ish. It’s brutal and pulls wins out of nowhere. It’s my current favourite deck and is slowly replacing my Slivers as my main deck.
Can you share your upgrades?
Skirge Familiar + Faith of the Devoted, tag teams with Vilis nice. Less so with The Skull
@@MageSkeleton
Shadow of the Grave combined with every B:Cycle card gives another chunk of juice. It is not the primary WinCon but it will strip an easy 20 from ppl.
Thanks for sharing this. I saw this commander and wanted to make a cheap deck and you just so happen to make it. I used your link and got everything. I love the idea of it
Mitch forgot Lishrac's Sigil along with a bunch of other useful cards such as Vampiric Link.
Behold the beyond -> Sanguine bond + underworld dreams + peer into the abyss
I'd argue Blood Celebrant is the Golden Pig. Too much broken stuff happens when he hits the board.
Deck tech starts at 1:17.
I miss the puns on the top right corner... That said, these are still great quality!
Do you have a decklist
This deck really needs ways like Kaya's Ghostform, Swiftfoot Boots and Darksteel Plate to protect K'rrik. He's going to have a huge target on his back
i've discovered that you'd rather K'rrk get sent to the command zone and just focus on "mana ramp".
Can you please do an update video for this Commander?
I just finished an Ayara EDH build and I just ordered K'rrik to pump it WAY up
Even as a budget deck, K'rrik is just insane man! Awesome deck tech, Mitch.
K'rrik is one of the absolute best combo commanders ever printed. K'rrik decks can be absolutely scary as fuck.
I love how he says K'rrik like carrot
Vampirik link on Pestilence Demon, and with K'rrik in play creates a game winning ping-of-death beast.
Hey Mitch, I really enjoy these videos. That's all.
This is basically the exact deck I made. Lots of life gain and life switching.
I love how when u were talking about paradise plum, you said most of the time you would choose black. When would you not?
When you wanna add necropotence but it's now $40
Funnily, this kind of idea is something I've done with fellas like Vona the Butcher or Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim. Also, I have an Oloro deck based around cards like Axis of Mortality to swap life totals and cause mayhem on the table
it's a bit more difficult in mono black. Which is part of the enjoyment of the building challenge.
Bond of Agony would be ok in this deck, and also i'm amazed that Exsanguinate isn't in here!
It would be more feasable with Vito, the Dusk Rose which is a new Legendary creature long after when this video was made. K'rrk doesn't have enough life gain unless you somehow get Zulaport or Blood Artist enchanted or equiped with lifelink which is too much expendeture.
He has it in the list
Yes! Thank you for making this video!
A DECK TECH WITHOUT WAYFARER’S BAUBLE?!
I cant decide which I like better at the help Vilis or K'rrik.
*Wheezes in Core Set 21 and Vito*
taking out Triskaidekaphobia? insanity.
Trisk is dangerous - you're paying life - A LOT of life. This is another spot your opponents can kill you at - and if you're at 15, and pass, your opponent only needs to shock you. And that isn't hard.
I feel like it HAS to stay in just for flavor!
I like these tutors you added in this
I run my version of this deck with a demons theme around lilianas contract. Devotion and spells with 3-4 pure swamp costs. Kykthos taps for a flood of mana.
Grave crawler and Gisa combo to make endless zombies each turn.
Gary and abhorrent overlord can be win cons alone.
As is Sorin markov
A cheap interaction I had fun with was pestilence demon. Loxodon warhammer. And overseer of the damned. Each untap step I would trigger 4x and now down a handful of creatures and make more zombies
What is "Kykthos?"
Ghoulcaller Gisa has to tap to cause that effect, so she's too slow and would need haste to "turn on".
This is my favorite commander. If its not too much trouble could you do a 2020 revamp? ^ ^
2021 revamp now
...now I feel like an idiot for missing Soul Conduit when building my K'rrik deck (which is inspired by your quick take from a while ago, so thanks for that as well!).
WoTC needs to reprint "Gauntlets of Power".
Slotted K'rrik into my mid-power, focused Chainer deck.
Now it suddenly looks like a high-power deck. K'rrick is silly.
WHich chainer? and why run the more important legendary creature in the 99 to use a creature that only works with K'rrk as your commander?
Alright this is being built tonight
Hey should have added inspiring statuary to this deck it helps make a few spells almost free.
Awesome video, Mitch 😎
I’d suggest giving Pestilence Demon lifelink for a ton of it, maybe w. Whip of Erebos/Vampiric Link as others have suggested
In your humble opinion; is Dread Presence too weak?
Powerful deck, but I think it needs more protection for K'rrik
Eh i think it needs recursion for K'rrik because its black, he doesnt need to protect shit if he can recur it easily
There are some hybrid mana cards you included that can't be in a mono black commander deck
By the way...
Soul Conduit + Phyrexian Unlife + Solemnity
If only K'rrk had access to WHITE.
Which means you could end up passing the turn with 1-5 life turn 1 or 2.
you could also play tree of perdition
Running black cards with k'rrik is op
Life is a great resource, but you need a way to make their creatures attack you so your comander can eat them and gain you life I think there is imp that you tap and make Target creature attack if able
Just bought the playmat sign by mitch, you should get a deal with amazon, ebay has crazy shippijg fee!! Happy to help the channel keep going :)
“I cast repay in kind at 2hp you all go d-“
“Lightning bolt”
A whip of eribos will be a good addition sorry didn't know how it is spelled
Exsanguinate would be terrific in this deck.
There are a crapton of Theros BD cards that will go well with this.
Finally was waiting for you to make one
Skeletal Grimace is the face I make when I put it on K'rrik
I'm pretty sure I need this deck...
Asmodeus would fit quite well in a krrik deck
