Much love from 🇨🇦 Canada. I was driving up a forest road out in Tofino when one of my friends in the car started playing this. Needless to say we parked the car, all got out and watched the ocean as this played. Pretty groovy tunes!
I have listen to this about 20 times (not all in a row). What a great song. The National in definitely one of the major directions of indie music and the most consistent.
I freaking love Matt's passion on every performance he gave. He's like a fragile child trying to overcome his demons, and what a beautiful tries he always delivers.
I wonder if the singer made the decision to not touch the mic with his hand. Whoever thought of that is a genius because the tension it caused made me watch the whole video.
You can hear the Joy Division inspired licks in their music. I think it's a compliment, how they've heard Ian Curtis' concepts and adapted them. They each have their own sound, yet correlate. Joy Division laid new ground musically, I think The National respects what they did.
The clip of The National refers us to the clip of the Russian band Zvuki Mu for the song Rough sunset (Grubiy zakat). The movements of the members of The National repeat the movements of the group Zvuki Mu. This is a kind of tribute to the Russian band! A fitting homage to Zvuki mu by an equally excellent band... Luv it x
They played this last night at the concert here in Nashville and I loved it. I've always loved this song!! ❤

You can't fault their dedication. Guitarist is having a stroke and they just keep on playing.
