The Cadets in the 80s had such EPIC and memorable shows... there’s so much to love - the amazing brass arranging and distinctive sound of the hornline, the incredible musicality and touch of the percussion, the GREAT color guard work, and simply the BEST show design... the drill is just so damn good! The ‘89 show is one of my favorites. 😊

Back when "The Cadets" were actually loved. The first hit from 0:21- 0:40 was amazing !!! Drum Corps of today, take note...this was how it was done without amplification...The Garfield Cadets of the early 80's totally rewrote the book on drill pictures, marching & playing, and what the individual member was capable of when pushed to the limits. March and play at ease with power, passion, and complete musicality, explained in a 5 place performance!!! I miss these years. Brass volume with motion are a sure way to draw me back to DCI shows. Gino Cipriano in 2000 said the “g horns were held together with fish line maybe a little solder” yes a quote. That was the year they switched to multi key brass. Yes that is his first year with The Cadets. Well I can’t argue with that. the Bb and F horns Certainly sound different but in no way could anyone say better or worse. G bugles forever!!! These were the days!!! Just one man’s opinion that’s all.

Gino is so wrong on the G bugle. I have a King 2 valve mello from 83 that still plays very well. I also have a Kanstul 3 valve mello in G that is in great shape.Maybe the Cadets and Gino didn't take care of theirs.

You're right. As a percussionist, the years of these horns are absolutely amazing. They're so much better sounding than the current band instruments. There's just no comparison.

This was the Cadets' second year with a co-ed guard--and they took High Color Guard. Quite a leap from their 7th place all-female guard in 1987. I'll never understand why co-ed corps had such a problem with guys in the guard.
