It is so interesting to see the evolution of drum corps over the decades....the Cadets were rewarded for being innovative, clean, entertaining, and memorable. Yes...when electronics were introduced to the scene....it took many years to get it dialed in, but I think drum corps is in a place where we can say electronics really enhance the performance and elevate it. It just adds another layer of creativity to the writers and those that perform it. I recall the hand clap intro from Bluecoats from Upside of Down....that would not have been possible without the use of microphones. Then there was Tilt....another cool use of electronics. A poor use of anything is simply that....poor. The Cadets will always have a place in my heart. They opened up a huge world to me and I will always be thankful for their hard work and dedication to the craft. I almost marched in 1993...but the timing was just not right. Something I still regret to this day. If you are reading this and thinking about marching a drum corps...just remember that you only have one youth and a small window in your life to do it. Today's corps are better than ever, eat well, and keep the mental and physical health of the member at the forefront. Do it! Don't let the opportunity to march pass you by.

The Bernstein and Copland years are just absolutely classic Cadets.

My golden years of youth is it me but I just think the corps of the late 80's and early 90's just had better arrangements and sound with 128 people oh yeah no damn stages or sound mixing.

I marched X-Men in 90 and I remember when they added the Z pull at the end. It was the move that put them over the top. Classic ending to a classic show.

Ugh. My age-out year and I marched Orlando Magic. Should have tried out for Cadets. Loved this show and knew it was going to be good when I found out in the spring of 1990 what the music was going to be. I marched Suncoast Sound 1988 and we had some Cadets alumni on staff and I was a damn good tenor player who knew how to march. Oh well :(

Todd Peterson Suncoast 1988? AMAZING SHOW! Color Guard would have won under today’s averaging. Outrageous stuff!

I agree. Suncoast is one of my favorite 80's corps to watch

2:42 I love the guy who threw his bugle so high into the air. I heard a story that the kid owned his own bugle, that's why they let him do it.

I laugh at the joking references to past glory in the half z-pull after the reprise of a Westside Story company front, but I also can't help but feel that it represents a poverty in that present show. Sigh.

The whole show was essentially a "self-pastiche".

I takes away from the joy of the overall music some of musicians may like because it gives them a breather but for me it takes away the fun of hearing the musicians play there hearts out

its not so much that electronics are bad. It's that they are poorly used.
