Fun fact: John Mulaney desperately and repeatedly pitched this sketch as a writer and they never let him do it, so when he came back as a host, he just whipped it out out of a spite

Pete breaking character and John singing his heart out is a mood this is my favorite rendition of les mis I have ever seen
I like to think that this whole skit grew from John Mulaney thinking of the name "Clawsette" while taking a dump.
Funny you should say that because the phonetic equivalent of "clawsette" in my native language, bulgarian (клозет) means "toilet"
I think colin jost came up with that as they were writting the script together but yeah it was a clever one!

Maybe I’ve only seen the rare instances but in all the clips I’ve watched Kate breaks in most of them.

I entirely agree with your description of Kate’s voice. When I first heard her sing I was, like, Is that really her? She’s a comedian and the lyrics are a joke, but her voice is hauntingly beautiful, as you say, and I’ve replayed her part a number of times just to savor the sound of it.

I was in the dress rehearsal for this sketch and everyone's initial response was so great. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. During dress they couldn't get Kenan's tank through the door.

This is actually the recording for the dress rehearsal. In the live version they say tuna melt instead of the veal.

I enjoyed it a lot. But I have two reasons: 1) I think the current debate to stop boiling lobsters alive is ridiculous & this a perfectly done absurdist commentary about it; & 2) I friggin love Les Mis.

For some reason I didn't care for either of these sketches when they aired live. But watching them weeks later online, I find them both effing HILARIOUS!

It was Mulany’s pitch and they never let him do it until he was the host and then they had to.
There have been some pretty outrageous things that made it to air. I'd imagine there have been much more outlandish pitches that didn't make it.

This is classic SNL. I can almost imagine Bill Murray ordering the lobster and Belushi in the tank. Taking such a simple premise and going so far out in absurdity, taking huge chances. This is among the greatest skits of this very good modern era of SNL (2013-Present).

I feel like I've been seeing way more skits that end abruptly w/out humor.
There's a point where something becomes too much, and it's just silly. At that point, you either have to cross the line twice or you are wasting everyone's time.
