    This is great! We rely on a wood stove to heat our home and live in a cold climate. The fire lowers our ambient humidity significantly and I see it playing out in our crested gecko's enclosure. I'm misting a lot more!

    I think another tip can be to change or add an additional form of heating (as long as it's acceptable for the species you're keeping). For example, you can add a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) above an enclosure that needs to have its humidity decreased. Alternatively, you change from a heat bulb or CHE and instead use an under tank heater for an enclosure that needs to have it's humidity increased.

    Thank you for this video! I struggle with keeping humidity in my cresties enclosure and never thought about covering the top. And recently ordered a new substrate to try for helping with it as well.

    Thank you for all of your videos, they've been helpful for me and Duke-Leopard Gecko. Although all of a sudden when I put my digital thermometer on my warm side u noticed this morning Humidity was °80 Temperature was. °72. He's been eating every night and really only comes out at night ? Soo I turned out the light and took out the water dish & turned on the fan in dining room, turned on AC in living room. Hopefully everything will work out. I just want the best for him..TD ❤

    I heard from a few people that if you are able to add live plants it can increase the humidity by a bit but I have yet to test it myself

      I know. Me too, I had the digital thermometer outside of my 75 gal. Tank & it was reading °40% humidity. I put it inside the tank on my hot side and now it's reading °80% humidity ? I turned out the light & took out water dish,turned on AC,turned on fan. I'm totally confused if this doesn't work..

    I tried a dehumidifier but it raised the room temperature too much making it hard to maintain the cool side.

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  2 роки тому +1

      Oh sphagnum moss is probably your issue as it holds humidity really well. Try a different substrate

    If I wanted to use aluminium foil to increase humidity do I cover the whole thing or have something a little bit open?

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends

      You want to leave a bit open for air flow but you can cover 50-75% of the lid

    For my Ball Python enclosure Im gonna buy one of the Humidity devices that can detect the humidity levels and can turn on/off the humidifier and the dehumidifer if it needs to but the heating is perfect but the humidity during the day drops below what it needs to be while at night its on the high side but over all my male has no disturbance or is extremely tolerable with the humidity cause he is still feeding and tongue flicking is still normal and usually if the environment isn't right the animal won't eat

    My leopard gecko has a piece of shed stuck on his ear canal how may I remove this properly!!!!!!

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  2 роки тому +1

      Are you sure? Leos have a thin membrane structure to protect their ears. It’s clear and inside the ear canal, I just don’t want you to mistake that for shed and cause damage to your gecko. If there is indeed stuck shed (white skin rather than clear) try GENTLY removing it by the closest exposed part with a pair of dull ended tweezers and if your gecko won’t sit still be careful not to damage the ear

    I live in a tropical country and its raining season right now ( which normally last 6 months) the humidity in my room is around 80 and its the same thing in my geckos' enclosure even with my dehumidifier nothing seems to be working for me got any advice? ( also i haven't gotten my gecko yet i wouldn't let it live like that but its supposed to be born this week)

    My house is like 80 degrees or more should I use a heating pad?

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  3 роки тому +2

      yes, you will need to achieve a basking spot of 90 F. However, it sounds like your cool-end temp would be a challenge to achieve if your house is so warm.

    I was wondering if you were thinking of getting a urmastyx to your collection of reptiles. I hope so, because I have just got one and there is very little information of them out there or videos. I know that they only eat fresh veggies and like it very hot and dry. They are also a shy species. If so can you find out anything else or maybe get one to add to your reptile family. I and others would love that thanks. I love your channel. Have a great day!
