On the snug fit comment at the end I can tell you my Leo went from a medium zilla rock lair and then when I put a large lair in her tank it was like the mediums didn't exist any more, they became climbing accessories. She loved the mediums when she was a baby though around the 5-8 month old range. I imagine every gecko is different but mine loves the extra space in her large.
I am the interim between the rescue and the place of surrender for a severely neglected leopard gecko. I’ll only have her for a couple nights but I googled humid hide for her shed, accidentally hit your video and dude. I watched the whole ass thing lol. You’re great!
I’ve came across your channel and just binged watched a lot of videos. I have to say I’ve learned a lot and you explain things very well. I watched 2 of your videos and got my answers that I’ve searched many videos for precise answers, thank you!
Thanks for the pro tip on substrate money savings! I am door dashing from tractor supply everything but the moss I already have! Mr. Twisters mind is about to be blown. He's mostly on rock and a really lazy attempt at moss/hide lol
The large is best for an adult leopard gecko. In a medium, they just fit snugly. Even for a baby, get the large. Because of the way they are designed, they still feel safe. I also bought them for my crested geckos and gargoyles as a humid hide as I have females and they make great nesting boxes. My girls toss duds.
Finnaly someone that gave me the answers I needed! But one more question what type/brand of moss do you buy from Home Depot or Lowe’s? I wanna buy in bulk as well but want to make sure I buy the safest moss. Thank you so much for the help!
Not sure about lizards but i feel it’s better to make hole on the top for snakes. Hole on the side causes the moss to come out 95% of the time when snake uses it. I hope lizards don’t make a mess as much as snakes. Anyways appreciate for the video.
Just an idea not sure if it would work just wanted to ask what if I put hydro balls along the wall of my DIY or bought hide from a store and covered the floor with substrate and then moistened the hydro balls and covered those up with substrate as well and then spray the substrate to contain a lot of humidity would that work or would it be too much humidity?
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse will definitely try it out and let you know the results. If not I will use your peat moss, sand and the sphagnum moss idea. I found your video very informative and helpful for the arid enclosure I'm going to be building Sunday.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse alot of stuff I've read and researched I saw bearded dragons didn't need one. But the vet I took my beardie to told me to put a humid hide in the tank as a way to put a dish of water. I told her I couldn't keep a water dish in his tank because it raised the humidity to much.
Also, do you think you could do a video sometime on how to care for a bearded dragon that tested positive for coccidiosis? I got my beardie and noticed that within a week of getting him, his poo was off. He was acting fine and eating really well. The only thing I saw was his poo not looking right, so I took him to a vet. They said to use bleach or dish soap and clean his tank daily during the antibiotics. I feel like they weren't really helpful as to how much or anything. I've just been watching different ways to clean the tank, though it doesn't really say proper ways to care for coccidiosis. He seems to be doing better and has only a couple more times left of taking the antibiotics. I have been trying to research a lot. Though this is one topic not touched too much.
helooo. i was wondering if u could do a baby beared dragon beginner guide video instead of a grown beared dragon or maybe u can just tell me in the comments. i am getting a baby beared dragon tomorrow and ive seen all ur vids about beared dragons and i know everything i need for the grown ones but i have no idea if its the same thing for baby ones too
Question plz, I have sent this off to my friends that have cut the hole in the top. However, if you use a plastic bowl and make a hole, what about the sharpness of where you cut it out? Will it hurt or cut the snake when they go in there?
Yes that’s why you heat up the knife and it will melt the plastic making it smooth. You can also go over it with hot glue if you want to make it even more smooth
@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thanks so much again. I don't have snakes, but have learned alot since friends own them and one breeds ball pythons. I got 2 beardies and I have got that down!
@ChiefSweetsUniverse Also, on beardies, people always want to use a T5 and loose substrate, just like you showed for the humid box. What are your thoughts on T8 vs T5 and loose substrate. A video would be great if you can.
It’s not really beneficial for bearded dragons only geckos and snakes. I’ll have a video explaining humidity, bathing, and shedding coming soon for bearded dragons
Yeah you definitely can use whichever substrate you like. You can use spray foam like great stuff and then cut the great stuff into a rock shape seal it with drylock and it’ll look like a rock
If you want the already made Zilla humid hide you can find it here: amzn.to/3LNwxqH

That is true geckos like humans do enjoy variety. Every gecko is different

Hoke depot it’s a white and green package called premier sphagnum peat moss. Lowe’s it’s majestic earth peat moss
Thank you so much!!
I’ve heard not to use and not to use sphagnum moss for geckos. Not sure what to do with it
Should we keep the top of the plastic container on it when putting it in our leopards habitat? Or does it not really matter?
How often do you change out the soil. To clean up the poop
About every 6 months
is it ok to only use vermiculite for the humid hide?

Hi! Thank you so much for this! Should the humid hide be placed on the warm side or cool side of a gecko’s enclosure?
I usually place it around the middle or the hot side myself but it really doesn’t matter.
if i were to get dirt from outside and mix i tinto some sand would that work?
Probably not because it wpuld have bacteria and other harmful full stuff. You could bake in an oven to remove the bacteria but its a hassle.
As soon as my Beardie is better, I plan on making a humid hide. Thank you for this video because the way I was doing it wasn't working lol.
For beardies you don’t even need a humid hide they tend to not need or use them but if you have a leopard gecko or snake go for it!

@@kaylalindstrom5607 oh yes I’ll make a video on it as soon as I can.
Thank you so much. You're awesome!!! I will be looking out for it.
I used a combination of Reptisoil cypress mulch and leaf litter for the hide. Would this be sufficient enough for a Ball Python?
That would be great

If i use sphagnum(?) Moss for the humid hide, how many times do i have to clean/change it?:0
Unless he or she poops in it never or unless it smells.
can you use leaves from outside to put in substrate?
Yes 100% just make sure they weren’t sprayed with any poisons and have no insects on em like ants you’ll be good
If u choose to do a humid hide do u still need to mist the enclosure
No but you should make sure the humid hide stays humid. You could also mist the tank like once every two months just so it isn’t insanely dry
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse ok so if I do decide to mist I don’t need a humid hide?
You might even be able to just burn a hole by using the lighter flame alone.
You might actually
this is for cresties too?
Yes you can use it for many lizards and snakes
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thanks , i have a couple questions where should i contact you for them?

Hi Chief! Quick question... is a humid hide beneficial for bearded dragons? Or is this for geckos and snakes?
It’s not really beneficial for bearded dragons only geckos and snakes. I’ll have a video explaining humidity, bathing, and shedding coming soon for bearded dragons
@k.l.manring2083 yes my video tomorrow will be exactly about shedding!
instead of a paper towel I use a blue shop towel
Not bad not bad. Way better as it holds more water
I make mine the same way, but no sand. I'm hoping to find a way to make them look like rocks. Peace ❤
Yeah you definitely can use whichever substrate you like. You can use spray foam like great stuff and then cut the great stuff into a rock shape seal it with drylock and it’ll look like a rock
Is 80% too humid for a humid hide?( I think it is.)
Na that’s fine
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse alr thx
First also thank you so much for the info....pin?
Happy to help! I actually need to pin the Zilla humid hide for people interested in that haha but otherwise would
