Great video - Starting to use HD RIde-Planner more and more. I am looking for a feature for large groups. A feature that would allow a route builder/Admin for a group of riders that would automatically update a group with the latest route. That way the individuals in the group don't have to update and save the latest versions of a route.
I have been using the HD Ride Planner for over 10 years. Even with all of the original flaws, if you know how a GPS actually functions, then the Ride Planner will work like a champ. Yes, it took me several years to figure out all of the subtle tweaks one needs to make, but bottom line is if you want to be able to plan a trip with multiple waypoints this is the package I rely on. One of the big issues with creating a route on a PC and then uploading the file to a bike is that if there are not enough waypoints the bike GPS will automatically change the route to the most efficient route, according to the GPS at the time. However, I do prefer to upload daily routes instead of an entire trip. I find it easier that way, but each person has their own preferences. All that being said, if I need a quick point-to-point route, my Road Glide Navigation will work just fine. Ryan............as with all of your videos, this one was timely and well executed. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Ryan for the advice. That said, I just test road a 21 Indian Challenger. Really enjoyed the ride, so I ordered one. Downside... 3 to 6 weeks until it arrives. BTW, I enjoy following you and your buds. Also appreciated your review of the bike.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Just wanted to add about the Ride Planner app from my experience. It is a great way to plan a route before hand using a laptop or pc. Try to make it as simple as possible when planning out using the least amount of waypoints. Keep the file size down to a minimum. Break up a route if necessary into separate files (ex: LA_Sac_1, Sac_Tahoe_2, Tahoe_Vegas_3, Vegas_LA_4) and a large part of that depends on waypoints. It's just something to experiment with before you try on a multiday adventure. If you set a waypoint and don't actually meet it, the app will reroute you based upon the most fastest way to reach your destination. For example, you spend time planning a route through the twisties from LA to San Diego but miss a waypoint you set before the twisties. It will most likely reroute you using the interstates. If you miss a waypoint and it keeps yelling at you to U-turn to go back to it, then you decide to use the "skip waypoint" option, it will most likely reroute you using the interstates or even roads that are pot hole dirt gravel roads that it determines to get you to your destination quicker. I think the Harley Ride App will continue to operate or hold the planned route (or even unplanned route if just viewing the map as you ride) you set even when you run out of cell phone signal service and relies on the GPS function within the phone (totally separate technologies from what "experts" have informed me) The GPS satellites lock onto a "beacon" baked within your phones motherboard and is how it can track the exact location even when you don't have cell service.
I like my Rand McNally atlas. No batteries, works 24/7, :) As a Indian owner, Indian route/ride command is marginally more useful than smoke signals, if you turn the brightness up, it does have the benefit of providing a nice soft white light to read my atlas by at night... Thanks as always for your in-depth and quality reviews.

Can you make an updated video on trip & ride planning apps and if any of these have updated their software for more user friendly use or they have worked out there bugs since this vi from a yr ago. TY
Hey Ryan! I've been really getting into this issue recently. I have used the HD Ride Planner and the 6.5 & GTS Boombox for some time. You stated in your video: "you can name waypoints in Ride Planner". Not accurate. You can name "destinations" anything you want.......but waypoints CANNOT be named in my experience. Makes a big difference when uploaded to the Boombox. So.......if you waypoint a Chevron for gas you can only name it as a gas stop if you change the waypoint to a location (or stop). The GPS on the bike will stop.......you then need to restart the Ride by choosing the file for the next stop.
Hi Rick. I use HD Ride Planner on a regular basis and want to share that the waypoints actually are renameable. If you open a saved map, and then select EDIT (orange pencil in the upper right corner), the map will be reopened in an editable format. Select LIST WAYPOINTS and then move your mouse to the desired waypoint where you'll see another "pencil" icon to the left of the default address. Click the pencil and the app will provide you an 'upper line' where you'll be able to rename the waypoint as desired. Hope that's helpful. Ride safe and often.
Some times i want in the 1st leg twisty road but not on the second, i cant find any software with this feature... The best way is to configure every leg separately!

Great video thank you! A good ride app is key for group rides. Thanks for all the great content. I found your videos last year and they have really helped me a lot. I have purchased a few things from your store and everything is high quality and works great!! Question have you ever experienced your tour pack wobbling over time? Is there a way to adjust it so its tight again? If you have the time a video on that would be great!! Thanks again and keep her Shiney side up.
HI Ryan, I rode through Yakima a couple of weeks ago, was looking for motorcops hoping to run into you. Only saw three cop cars near the bike shop...maybe next time.
Does that work together? I've been wondering about that. it would be really cool to have the MagSafe charger connected too so all you have to do is plop the phone on top of it and your done.
Luv the channel and u seem to be a hellofadriver. I’ve seen the training videos. May be relocating from Kansas City to Redmond Washington area. Great video thanks! I was using Harley Ride Planner on my desktop to plan a ride this summer. Just recently there seems to have been some updates to the website which has created bugs. I no longer see mileage between locations. It is black. I also can not use my mouse to zoom in and out from a map. I used to a couple weeks ago. I tried two different laptops and both Chrome and Edge. Same bad results. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?
No reason anymore really because smartphones can do the same. Still GPS on a phone even without cell service. Plus my Harley has the Boom Box built in and Indian as the Ride Command built in. Most high end touring bikes already come with a dedicated GPS system.
Have an issue with H-D planner and bike importing. The planner is great, really love it, but when we (guys in my group) import the gpx file, the bike system changes the route (old system and new). Suggestions so that the bike system doesn’t change the route we planned?
Been a long time problem/issue. The workaround, and what I do, is each day of a ride I just find in the list the destination for that particular day and open it in the list and hit go on the Boom Box. It did that to me on a recent 10 day plan I did when uploading to the Boom Box. But again, as long as you know your destination for that day then just find it in the list on the Boom Box and go. There is no way to fix that glitch until Harley developers fix the bug.
