I always loved the costuming for "Cinderella." So many live-action fantasy films look generic and muted, so the lavish color and Victorian-meets 20th century-aesthetic was amazing.
The problem that you can easily see, is that even when in the animation Belle is tiny compared to the beast, in the dance scene, she still stand out because the dress is making her look visually heavy, no fat, just eye catching and in the live action, you barely can see the dress from afar, actually you can barely see Emma Watson, the beast is taking more visual space than her and they are trying to shot from "good" angles but nothing works.
Yeah, they should've either made the Beast smaller or her dress more voluminous. Even if it wasn't very good, I could've forgiven them if Belle said she made it (despite having no aforementioned skill at it) herself, thus why it was so simple, and that it took her forever to finish.
Corsets were just a regular part of fashion history. It was just a normal undergarment woman would wear. It was not meant to torture women that’s a mistake made by Hollywood.
I love how costume design is beginning to take its rightful place as one of the hallmarks of a good movie/show/etc. In my own book, “The Collective:Forsaken Faith” I tied my main characters arc into the clothes they were wearing progressing from a rigid black suit to a freeing white tunic with gold accents. Thank you for taking the time to make this wonderful video!
Really love the way you put everything into words. 2015 Cinderella is one of my favorite films of all time, to hear 'the memories of her mother were being torn from her body' put into a sentence was amazing. Love your interpretation of the story.
I agree, I think the person undermines OG Cinderella’s character. But I think people forget that she’s been with her step family since she was a child and you can’t just talk back to someone when you live under THEIR roof. That’s how you get thrown out on the streets. The streets aren’t kind. 😂
@@crazygamer_1082 That and it’s never really a win-win situation for the person who’s being abused. You’re also right about the living situation. Especially, since she has no job, so no income.
The animated Cinderella doesn't wear blue outside of her nightgown. Her maid outfit is brown with aquamarine sleeves, her ball gown is silver, and her wedding dress is white. Seems like random colors that don't mean anything. The live-action Cinderella as a child wears white with flower prints and matches her mother. As an adult she wears blue with flower prints and a blue ball gown. The prince also tends to wear blue on his outfits. It's like they match because they're meant for eachother. And her wedding dress matches the beginning, being white with flowers. She came full circle and found full happiness again.
Cinderella remake was amazing to watch for the first time and I'll never get over that feeling of amazement with her dress. Left beauty & the beast extremely disappointed and that pretty much set the precedent for the rest of the live action films disney released. i'll always love enchanted costumes, watching it as a kid and seeing the final dress reveal, it was obvious she had grown as a person and grew to love the world she was in. great video!
I hope I don't get hate for admitting this, but I liked the live action beauty and the beast. Edit: I do think that a lot of the dislike is from the outfitting, but I had fun watching it.
No one can say anything to me about the Cinderella 2015 because it’s not that good. I feel it deeply undermines Ella’s psyche as she’s a grown woman when her step family enters the picture. Not young child like in every other adaptation. Which does make a massive difference. It makes me feel like she’s pathetic because she’s too grown and skilled NOT to leave. She has no loyalty to anyone or anything there. Her daddy dead as hell. They tried being an “Ever After” with a Cinderella 1997 aesthetic (w/o the amazing color blind cast). I LOVE the costumes. Very beautiful. But the actual story is lackluster in my opinion. My mom also killed the vibe when she acknowledged that Ella’s dumb quote about “Have courage and be kind” made no sense because at no point was she courageous. It made her look bad because she had skills to be a common woman but decided to stay in that house. It would make more sense if they had given her SOMEONE to stay tethered to the house too. Like O-girl in “Ever After”. The only reason she stayed was because of the servants and she didn’t want them to suffer once she was gone. Now THAT is a “Have courage and be kind” b\\\\!
Cinderella.doesnt wear blue tho. Also emma Watson ruined Belle with her idi0tic refusal to wear a corset and to learn to dance in a dress, which is her LITERAL JOB. The dress looks so horrible because most of it is cgi

@@OpticalSorcerer I love the 2015 Cinderella , it really holds its own next to the animated one , and the costumes are so well done

@@rowanjoy419 I love this interpretation, the dress up close is visually beautiful, but in the overall scene she really gets lost
@@Dollmystery no it isnt, the dress up close looks like ass. It is cheap and shoddily made.

They were the very first bust support
This is so well done and thought out! It's making me consider my costuming choices to reflect how some of my OCs have developed over the years.

Someone tell her that corsets/stays are just underwear like bras.
Absolutely they don't kill women.
I would argue that Cinderella’s story is a story about overcoming abuse rather than just a simple rags to riches story.
