Happy Halloween! Thanks so much for watching! Did you ever watch the W.I.T.C.H. cartoon series or read the W.I.T.C.H. graphic novels? Let me know your thoughts!
I always thought Witch was underrated, I wish we had gotten at least a 3rd season and had a worthy ending to the show, the comics didn't end and it was a good moment too :/
@@nostalgica3609 i have a question my sister sometimes says that shows seasons maybe should be shorter if the show has more of ongoing story cause if its too long it feels like its draging does that apply to this show i have seen the show and i don't necessarily think that im just asking a question
If it was made today I bet two of them would be gay, all of them would be ugly as sin and the leader would be trans or some shit. So no, hopefully they will not revive it for at least 10 years until this insanity clown world will die.
I loved this show. For something supposedly for girls it had a lot of action. They weren't just shooting light beams at people. Their powers had weight and they had to be smart how they used them. Cornelia the stereotypical popular girl was the strongest of the girls. Earth her element is often overlooked in other shows. The romance aspect was unique. Cornelia ending up with the main guy, not Wilma the main girl.
The girls' love life took several turns in the comic books. While I did find some outcomes less nice (because I was already used to previous ships), the positive part was that it was more realistic that way. Also the changes concerning their families, hobbies/interests etc, which are reflective of kids who are growing up.
Definitely a blast from the past I had forgotten about. I'd be happy to explore it again given the opportunity, but I'm also a bit leery about modern-day reboots.
That W.I.T.C.H theme song was an absolute banger, a welcome addition to that Jetix lineup back in the day. I remember having some of their McDonald’s Happy Meal toys.
Unless you were living in Australia like me and got the other version. I didn't even learn of the banger version until a few years ago. Sure, I'd HEARD it long before then, but it had been used as audio for a Powerpuff Girls Z music video. I'd had no clue it was the W.I.T.C.H. theme song until a few years ago.
I prefer the European version which uses an uplifting pop song which i felt fit the show better. Then again, maybe i bias since i saw the European version first.
And the song they play in the show! I love it so much! I found some of the books back in the day, but I didn't read much because I could only find the same 3 novels. I found the comic online at one point, but I've lost it since.
Agree! Winx was definitely more quirky, cute and sparkly while WITCH was more dark and less extravagant, plus the animation was far more realistic :) I like both though
Same their personalities could not be anything but far from difference. I discovered the Witch comics way before Winx Club was aired on TV in my country.
Growing up in Italy I distinctly remember W.I.T.C.H. feeling like such an original and exiting story compared to other pre-teen stories out there (wasn't the biggest fan of Winx when it came out because it felt like a knock-off) and the first volume of the graphic novel came with Will's pendant which was really cool heheh
Really, the heart of Kandrakar came out in the first volume in Italy?? Here in Brazil it was only in the 12th volume, and I remember I bought three of them because I used the heart as a necklace in every single situation and the little ball always popped out like 10 days later 😂
@@AglajaEos where are you from? I don't remember a frog mug, and now I really wish I had one lol I guess here in Brazil the first gift was a necklace, but it wasn't the heart of Kandrakar, I believe it was a star. I loved those gifts lol
Omg.. Core memory unlocked! This show was such a big part of my childhood! In school i found a friend group, one guy and 4 girls, so we where 6 in total. We loved the WITCH series, and the boy loved making up stories, so we had this game or fantasy world, where he gave us tasks to solve and enemies to fight, then he would play the enimes too, and he also had made his own "blunk" like character, that was a bit more tolerable haha! (He was a great GM huh? I wonder if he is into DnD today or something like that..) We girls each had a power like the WITCH girls did, and we would zoom around in the school yard twice a day, playing these games, and our "GM" would draw and come up with new adventures during the school hours haha! He was really a gem! That time was really something
The show does not get enough credit for being funny. The witty banter and dry sense of humor. I re-watched it as an adult and Blunk causing mayhem by racing down the streets in a trashcan made me laugh hysterically. The graphic novel was beautifully drawn, but the show was so much fun. It really compensates for being more kid friendly.
@@berilsevvalbekret772 The comic was better because it gave you so much more world to enjoy. The show had a great thing going and deserved the chance to develop more, but it just wasn't given the chance to. The fights were also so cool to watch in animation, and it's just great evidence as to why it deserves a reboot.
Fun fact, in Greek mythology Phobos is one of the twin sons of Ares, and also one of the moons of Mars (the Roman counterpart to Ares). He represents fear, specifically the fear brought by war. So a tyrant going by that name checks out.
You know what there is fanfiction of this and Jackie Chan Adventures where Jackie trains them in martial arts and fight with them alongside his against evil. It’s called J WITCH by Iron117Prime.
Witch was my childhood and - as an artist - the comics/graphic novels were what REALLY made me challenge myself as a teen and draw more and more. This video just gave me so much nostalgia, I should really dig out the old comics I still have somewhere and read them again!
Oh man I loved WITCH. I saw the comics on sale back in the day though my parents did not want to buy them initially because they were too expensive. So I kept borrowing each issue from my friends until my older sister got their bi-weekly (issues were coming out every two weeks) subscription for my birthday. Each issue had fun personality tests, astrology, puzzles, trivia, lore, and fanart (LOCAL fanart I'm pretty sure! As the art featured was with my country's names and cities instead of Italian, I even sent my own but it never got featured lol), also some trinkets, like keychains or stickers or small toys. A few years ago I found the scans online and read through them for nostalgia. And the first two volumes (Phobos/Elyon and Nerissa arcs just like the animates series), then one or two more volumes were pretty decent and pretty seamlessly flowed from each other, characters growing from their hardships and lessons learned (I loved the Banshee arc). And then it became rough pretty fast. I don't know if the writers changed, funding got pulled or what but the overall story took a bad turn. Suddenly the characters started doing weird decisions, like, repeating past mistakes of not trusting each other, even though it was lesson learned a volume or two ago. The volumes became disjointed, they felt like separate stories instead of one huge adventure, some retcons involved. The relationships/boyfriends drama almost seemed like it became the focus for a while, and all the girls went looking for the love, then breaking up, finding someone new, breaking up again. At first the boyfriends drama seemed like they were trying to teach young girls that it's okay to lose someone so young, you'll find another partner as your entire life is ahead of you, but eventually it happened so often it seemed like the writers were running out of ideas and doing this for drama's sake. There were a few chapters where the girls got a peek into their future selves. It was funny because every time it showed a completely different future despite them not doing anything wildly different than usual (this was volumes apart - like I said, it almost seemed like the writers changed and didn't do enough research of the story that has already happened). The last volume(s) didn't even have "arcs". Each issue covered a separate story that did not connect with other chapters, and many of them didn't even contain much of the magical adventure, only more everyday normal world drama. I powered through these last-ish chapters hoping there would be one last hurrah arc with a happy ending... and then it didn't, it just ended. I'm looking forward to the reboot. I hope they re-work and fix a lot of issues I had with the comics. Fun fact: in the animated series all girls could fly, and in the comics only Hay Lin could as she was the guardian of Air. Edit: Jordan, could you cover Galactik Football? It was peak Jetix
Absolutely agree, perfectly put! For me it started when my grandpa went to buy newspapers and there was one of the issues in there so he gave it to me. I loved it immediately but couldn't find more issues or any of them in order where I was so I read it online some years later. I remember thinking that it felt odd towards the end but that it might have been due to it ending or maybe the creators having some issues. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the art style of the reboot, I hope they can give us a better ending.
I never got to the end of the comics but I heard it got worse along the line :( Not only the story but the art too, they must have changed writers and artists and things didn't keep consistent :\ Where can one read it online? I think I once found a website with the whole comics but I lost it xD
@@TechnoScorpion2137 from the Witch wiki: When the Guardians transform, their appearance is similar to that of fairies. However, except the Guardian of Air, they could not fly, despite having wings. In the TV series, all five Guardians could fly, though the Guardian of Air is the fastest and most skilled at flying.
I have to disagree here. While I do agree that the overall quality of story started declining, that only happened after the 5th arc. There were so many intense moments, like Taranee quitting the group because of the oracle and Orube replacing her in the team, or the girls swapping powers only to realise they were fine the way the were. The prime suspect of boy drama was Will, who would constantly fight with her on and off boyfriend, followed by Cornelia, and her plot with Caleb but the other girls didn't really have so much boy issues. Especially Irma who was more of the constant comedy relief.
i remember being obsessed with the graphic novel when it came out. i don't think i was ever able to complete all the issues, but i always looked forward to them.
Growing up in Poland, I LIVED for these comics! It was all we would talk about at school and I remember the excitement of seeing the newest release in a newspaper kiosk :D Might watch the show now at 30 yo haha Thanks for reminding me about this gem!
A reboot that also revives comic and book access to international audiences (English, please!) would be AWESOME. There's a lot of magical girls shows for kids again, but not a lot touch into that more classic darker witch and supernatural aesthetic like W.I.T.C.H. does. It'd be a great way to mix things up!
well, if i am honest, winx could have ended at season 4 and nothing of much value be lost. and i say that as someone who actually thought season 5 was ok
The graphic novel was pretty well written. Characters were really flushed out. Friend group fights, family drama, getting into relationships, emotional attachment to pets, one girl relinquishing her powers because she felt like she was being pushed around by the higher ups, getting replaced, and ultimately going back. Deciding whether to stay in earth or in the other world, the story was anything but monotonous... It's a pretty good piece of our childhood. How nostalgic. PLUS THE MONTHLY ZODIAC pages and fun quizzes! The artstyle for the first volume is topnotch. Dare I say even comparable to DC. They've changed artists throughout the volumes and the artstyles became a bit meh compared to the launch but the story was definitely good. They got the power of friendship and the bald big wig on their side. Pfft 😂
I love the exposition part because ignoring the "exposition dump" plot stuff. I love the Yan Lin: Story time. Hay Lin: No grandma, not story time. Yan Lin: STORY TIME!
This show was great. And the second season was even better as Greg Weisman from Gargoyles and Young Justice came on board. Oh, and you all have to see the international version of the show’s opening. Way better than what the U.S. got. Also, this way better than Winx Club. I wish THIS lasted longer!
Sadly, season 2 never got a DVD release. Season 1 did and I'm thankful every day that I had the impatience and unknowing smarts to but all of season 1 on DVD back in my teens when I did, because good luck even finding season 1 on DVD now without it being a bad condition second-hand copy.
We had them in Czechia too! I loved those (also they really helped me when I was learning how to read 😂 so yeah, this is definitely a trip down the memory lane)
I might have watched the show as a kid but don't remember it as clearly as the comics. I absolutely adored the comics, from the story, the style, the characters. Definitely recommend reading as it was ahead of its time and the love of the creators was evident in them. Seeing W.I.T.C.H. in a thumbnail was super nostalgic.
This series should ABSOLUTELY continue, there is so much to the story and their individual stories, the characters are so developed and the stories are deep, i would buy the graphic novels ALL the time (even tho they were made kind of poorly... the pages would always fall out a lot and id end up taping half the book back together!!!) while it is a magical girl show, i feel like it doesn't have that unrealistic happy go lucky friendship theme that can become repetitive in magical girl shows and i hated it, these girls felt like real people even if they didn't like each other sometimes and that's what made the writing so incredible
THIS so much! The scenes where the girls fight feel real and not forced, and despite all the magical aspects, their personality as humans shine through and bleed into their work. The consequences of their actions as well as these human aspects aren’t forgotten either, what with the whole things going on with Cornelia and Caleb vs Taranee’s brother - which made them so much more endearing. One of my favourite examples of this is Will and her mum’s relationship + how Dean dating her mum rocks the boat yet they BOTH learn to try and respect each other’s happiness, with Will understanding her mum’s happiness as above her pettier feelings of cringe, and Will’s mother actually willing to exclude Dean when Will is around to make her more comfortable. You don’t see that show of good reciprocal/mutual behaviour in many other shows. Also there’s no quick fix magic spell for the bigger threats, and instead they just need to use their brains and bonds to try to fix things. Phobos fixes the Nerissa problem, which causes a Phobos problem, which is made worse by Cedric who felt betrayed by Phobos, then Nerissa has to come around and help them but still is trapped by her wickedness. Whacky ending and I love it.
I was so obsessed with this as a child, I've been a customer since the number 1 issue. Also watched the TV show, but nothing will top that feeling when you flip through the comic and soak in those beautiful illustrations. Thank you for this throwback!
Funny thing is that I only discovered Winx way later and confused it with W.I.T.C.H. instead of the usual way around. As a kid, I was really into girly and witchy magazines from France, but being in Canada, they would arrive later than their original publication date. I LOVED W.I.T.C.H. and I still have cuttings from some of the original magazines they were first published in! I remember really liking how they almost had a uniform but with variations depending on the character. That detail is very much on par with 2000s girl group's attire, like Destiny's Child all dressed the in the same fabrics but in different designs.
I loved both Winx and W.I.T.C.H.! My dad worked at a company where he was allowed to take magazines back home, so he would bring us the W.I.T.C.H. novels which was very sweet. I enjoyed reading them a lot and the art is so pretty. I only had a few and unfortunately I'm not sure if I still have them but I hope I still have them around somewhere. As a kid I always wished I had more of the novels because I reread the once I had a couple of times already.
Do you know how much I had to love this show to, as a 9 year old, secretly stay up till 11 and watch it on low volume? So much. I never missed an episode. I still hold W.i.t.c.h. As one of my favorite things just ever ❤
Hay Lin was my favourite too :3 I related to her a lot because I too was the artistic kid, and I loved her sense of style! To this day I still want to copy her classic combo of legwarmers + mini-skirt!
i barely got to watch this show when i was a kid cuz they always aired it at like, 5 in the morning. but the very few episodes i did manage to catch had me OBSESSED, me and my friends used to roleplay as the characters on the elementary school playground. W.I.T.C.H. left such a profound impact on me that i think about it at least once a week and have been ever since i watched the first episode 22 years ago (god that feels disgusting to say, wtf do you mean it's been that long)
i was a huuuuge fan of the show when i was little when it originally aired, i should rewatch it again tbh. i still have some of the graphic novels and mcdonald's toys, too!
In 6th grade I had a W.i.t.c.h. calendar and also read a few of the graphic novels - also in my school library. Thank you for this video and a trip down memory lane.
I read the comics as a kid, they were a favorite of mine. I loved how complex each character was and felt their struggles. I loved Cornelia the best, probably because i wanted to be her. But Irma, imperfect, headstrong, often silly Irma, had my heart too.
I'm coming back to watch this in full later but yes!!! I LOVED W.I.T.C.H. so much! It gave me the darker fantasy, punk, and more modern day-to-day mundane life aspects you couldn't find in Winx Club, and I just loved it so much. I even found the comic and rewatched the show before reading it to make everything stick better. The show does some things differently, but it's still pretty enjoyable. I appreciate that the comic spent time really developing things and dealing with the buildup of personal and magical fights, how lingering issues would look like over different arcs, and so on. The biggest issue I had was getting over how Matt looks VERY different in the comics, and basically ignoring the second half of the show because it veered pretty far. I just wish I could find another good site to read it on again because I lost the site I was using years back.
What a blast from the past! I liked both winx club and witch... but I liked witch a bit better. I used to have quite a lot of volumes and issues in my room, and I found out there was even an animated series some time later when my dad brought a couple bootleg dvd's, knowing I liked that stuff, then I caught it on tv. Those were good times.
I was a little peanut when WITCH came out as a comic/manga and I loved it. To be true, I craved everything from it and bought the comics every time a new came out.. when I heard about the animated adaptation I was over the moon. I was happy the show was animated, but because of those differences in story and rather “simpler” art as in the comics, I was not enjoying it to the fullest. I would love, now being a grown up woman, for WITCH to come back either as a live adaptation, movie, animated series. It’s a very nice story, with different girls to identify oneself with, lot of actions, reflections on friendship, relationships, school and every day.. ♥️ thank you for talking about it! The more it is talked about, the more likely Disney will do something with the story ♥️
Another Greg Weismann special! Gargoyles, Spectacular Spiderman, and Young Justice. The list goes on. I absolutely love his work! It's great... maybe too great. They always end prematurely.
Oh the memories ❤ I loved this show when it came out. Characters were endearing, their adventures were engaging, action was fun, loved the style. And Will to Love still rocks. The show definitely deserved more recognition
I was actually just thinking about this show earlier this week!! I saw some of the comics at my local half priced books and it brought back a lot of memories! I'm so excited to watch this, happy Halloween!!
I appreciate the changes they made between the novel and show for adaptation to TV. They simplified Caleb’s existence. I was fine with the changes because it still works with the story’s world. And left potential to adhere back to the novel later. The writer’s really went hard with this show.
just went on a nostalgia trip with your video's and omg can you please cover Monster Allergy? I vaguely remember being obsessed with it as a kid. it was rly fun!
Was so excited to see this. Happy Halloween to you as well. Also, small request, at some point could you review Dragon Booster, staying within the Jetix theme.
I've been waiting for this! I've always like the Magical Girl Warrior genre since Sailor Moon, but reading the WITCH combination books/graphic novels completely hooked me so much that WITCH is one of my top fandoms along with Star Wars and TMNT. And of course Disney's handling of it, well, it's not even on Disney+ yet, that's all you need to know. Cutting short because I could post about WITCH all day, but I honestly didn't know Blunk was from another series, thanks for the info.
As a fan of both franchises (but we'll talk only about W.i.t.c.h. here) I can tell you the war between the 2 fandoms was a huge thing until the mid 2010's. 😂 The series is kinda cool at its own. It's very different from the original comics but I think Season 1 has a lot of flaw even if you don't compare to the comics. The general atmosphere is muddy as dirt, there are some plot holes, the Witch girls are sometimes really rudes between them... I think the TV series really shines with Season 2 : Nerissa is a good threatening villain, the color palet is more vibrant, the lore and world building is very good, the storyline is progressing well... even Blunk became a more useful character and less the sidekick-comic-relief from S1. This is really Season 2 which hooked me into the Witch Tv series and graphic novels. Sadly, the rebot in graphic novel is almost already dead after only 2 volumes (I had mixed feeling for the first one but I really enjoyed the second one) as the drawer said that she isn't working on the 3d volume. As I expected, Disney just throw this idea of reboot and have abandoned it to move on something else. The worst thing is that a few months before the announce of this rebook, Yen Press stopped to release the compilations of the OG graphic novel... while they have ONLY 3 MORE BOOKS to release in order finish the main saga! Just imagine the reaction of the fans who thought they would complete the series...
Reason why the reboot has failed is the new designs. They are AWFUL. They literally took their iconic wings away and made them look like they’re wearing gymnastics uniforms. Plus making Cornelia’s eyes brown, shortening haylins hair, making will ginger and not a literal red head. I’m sorry to anyone who likes it but I literally hate it with a passion. Reboot it with the original designs in a new animation and it would be so popular but they won’t ever do it
Watched it all over again a few years ago. I was especially impressed by season 2. Didn't imagine magical girls can go this hard. And the main villain, Nerisa was amazing. Literally a female Palpatine.
I found this video while feeling nostalgic about this! I really wanted someone to talk about it and finally! I personally havent watched the show, i mostly was a comic reader (although those were just passed down to me lol!) but little me had a big obsession with W.I.T.C.H, I really wished that this show and along with the comics gets more recognition.
I loved WITCH when i was younger. The tv show was very good, and i also read many if the graphic novels. I wish the show would come back or be revived in some way
I didn't watch the show but was an avid reader of the comics! I got really invested in it and loved the complexity of the characters and storylines. I also remember getting the element pendant in one of the editions! They stopped selling it in my town in Brazil, so I never got to know the end of the story. Now I'm curious and might try to find it online. Thanks for the vid!
I was such a huge fan of the novels, I remember even getting Wills pendant with one of them. I believe I wore it to school and felt cool as hell. Thanks for this blast from the past!
OMG you just triggered a core memory, I still have the comics in the box at my parents house, and I loved W.I.T.C.H so much, having merchandise and … ❤❤
I was very much into Witch back in the day the comics also had some sections, tests and they came with a small gift. This video made me feel very nostalgic
I absolutely loved Witch and still do! It was such a great series and had this special feeling to it (at least for me) bc it was so different and dark and exciting, so sad they canceled it. (Fun fact, I only started watching Winx club bc Witch was over and I needed more of that kind of show😅)
This show was awesome! This, Winx Club, Totally Spies and Ben 10 were my childhood. Probably explaines why I like magic, science fiction and spy drama so much as an adult 🤣
Ohhh, I remember reading the first ten volumes of the graphic novel and watching the show when I was younger... I also watched Winx Club at the same time, too. Didn't realize they were both Italian until much later in life.
Growing up wasn't always easy, but I always had these books and magazines to get lost into. I will always be rooting for them. ❤ I was a big W.i.t.c.h.-fan back in the day. Thank you for this trip down memory lane!! 😁
I love this show so much. It had so much to offer, and the intro song for it was actually wonderful. Let's hope something comes out of it in the feature.
I am 28 years old and I have a collection of the Witch comics ( I have around 88) and to this day I refuse to give them away. They hold such fond memories of my childhood and they mean so much to me. These series inspired me to write, so at the age of 11 I wrote my own series (very similar to witch, but oh well, I was a child 😅) and the books they came out with sparked my love for books and reading. It was such a great thing for a girl to have. Ah, what wouldn’t I do to go back to the simpler times, running home from school just to read my comics and dream. ✨
Apparently Greg Weisman was heavily involved with W.I.T.C.H. season 2 before it got canceled. That man is an animation genius with the worst luck at keeping shows alive.
@@DragonKingX78 He says he barely remembers anything about it. However, knowing the plans they had for seasons 3-4 and that he went to work on Ben 10 seasons 1-2 shortly after, I think he may have coopted ideas and applied them to Ben 10.
Witch was what got me onto comics and storytelling and the fact that it slowly sank into oblivion is so sad. Both the comics and the animation were so good and I still think about them sometimes even after almost 20 years
Coming off some of the later Winx seasons, at the time WITCH just seemed so much of an upgrade. Not just the animation and powers/combat, but generally this far younger characters acting far less unrealistically childish. A lot of cool ideas, like the leader being the one without combat powers and a (non-timeline) multiversal mythology.
WITCH is what got me into drawing. I got a magazine from my sister when I was sick once, and I absolutely loved how it looked. However, looking back at all magazines, that one was the best quality. For some reason the others looked a lot simpler. I never watched the show, but loved reading the magazines. ☺️
I remember one specific scene. The tanned girl, the one with glasses. She once had to take care of a pet of sorts (don't remember what it was). And her little sister let it out to play their pet cat. In the Arabic dub, the big sister panicked and said. "You just poured oil upon the flames!"
Oh my GOD I can't believe this came up in my algorithm! I used to read the graphic novels religiously, loved them so much I begged my local library to find and order as many as possible. They were beautiful graphic novels too! I've never come across a single other individual in-person who knew about these books. I never watched the series though, it wasn't televised in my country sadly.
The big problem with Witch is that the producers underestimated the ability of girls (who were the target audience of the magazine and the graphic novel) to relate on an intimate level to a darker and deeper plot (which was basically what the graphic novel was about), so they tried to put Caleb as a kind of "protagonist" (he has a tiny role in the original story) to see if the cartoon would appeal a little to the male audience. Result: a disaster. All they had to do was follow the graphic novel. There was no need to "invent fashion", as the popular saying goes in Brazilian Portuguese.
holy this unlocked some memories, crazy how every "wait...remember" vid on this channel covers a show i have encountered on way or another. i mean i spent the first 16 years of my life exclusively behind a screen, rarely ever played outside and didnt have wifi until i was 13.
I remember really loving this show. But at the same time i barely remember anything of it nowdays. It was one of those weird shows where everyone was of the opinion that its a girls cartoon, yet from what i knew it was mostly popular amogst boys. Another show like that was Totally Spies
I can't help but notice how there was more fantasy-themed media during the 2010s than there is today. These days, all people want to watch on TV are reality shows and poorly done superhero content. Give me epic quests, mythical creatures, knights, kings, wizards and battles against evil over the MCU and Jersey Shore ANY day
Innocence and curiosity got lost with poor education and social media. Plus publishers went data statistics route and probably dont greenlight adventurous ideas
I love these older shows are getting talked about again this and trollz just popped up on my tiktok i loved both when I was younger thank you for covering this one!
I liked W.I.T.C.H as a kid, I had a few of the books and probably watched the show. I think they had a few toys at one point too, if I had any it might very been a McDonalds too.😅
@moonlightprincess449 Yeah, a few people said in the comments that there were Happy Meal toys after I posted, I was young enough to have a vague memory of it 😊 I'm glad it wasn't a false memory 😅 Irma! That's awesome, I don't remember who I had 🥲
I've been reading the comics since 2003. To me, W.I.T.C.H came out of nowhere and it was nothing like anything I've read. If you say nostalgia the first thing that comes to my mind is this comic I grew up reading it and their daily struggles with romance/family felt too personal and real to teenage girl like me. It really holds a special place in my heart even after all those years
I think I saw glimpses of this series when I was younger but I can’t be sure but did I get into it when I was in middle school on UA-cam and I really enjoyed it and the theme song is a bop
Happy Halloween! Thanks so much for watching! Did you ever watch the W.I.T.C.H. cartoon series or read the W.I.T.C.H. graphic novels? Let me know your thoughts!

Do you remember Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles?
I have the graphics novels but I prefer the TV series a lot more.
Skunk Fu!
World of Quest
Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot
Redwall
The Ripping Friends
Kong: The Animated Series
This was ahead of its time. If it came out now, I bet a lot more people would watch it more despite how underrated it really was.
Maybe if it aired on TV and streaming like it should be.

Also the changes concerning their families, hobbies/interests etc, which are reflective of kids who are growing up.
Definitely a blast from the past I had forgotten about. I'd be happy to explore it again given the opportunity, but I'm also a bit leery about modern-day reboots.
I think this is why I was so fond of it and Cardcaptor Sakura. 😆
VERY TRUE
That W.I.T.C.H theme song was an absolute banger, a welcome addition to that Jetix lineup back in the day. I remember having some of their McDonald’s Happy Meal toys.
Yes, I almost had all the W.I.T.C. H. guardians with the excpetion of Will.
I managed to get two sets of the happy meal figures. Will was nearly impossible to get and had to get her from ebay.
*Fans of Winx Club and W.I.T.C.H fighting over which is better*
Me: I like both! : )
Same
Magical girl alliance please. No need to fight.
@@greenstarlover1Can we fight the horrible live action reboot?
@@Lightspeeds yes. Yes we can fight the live action reboot.
And me, not watching either of them and thinking they were the same show, lmao.
As a fan of both I'd NEVER confuse Cornelia with Stella.
For wheel. I loved both W.I.T.C.H. and Winx, they had such a different vibe
Iktr! Hahaha
Agree! Winx was definitely more quirky, cute and sparkly while WITCH was more dark and less extravagant, plus the animation was far more realistic :) I like both though
Sameeee
Same their personalities could not be anything but far from difference. I discovered the Witch comics way before Winx Club was aired on TV in my country.
Growing up in Italy I distinctly remember W.I.T.C.H. feeling like such an original and exiting story compared to other pre-teen stories out there (wasn't the biggest fan of Winx when it came out because it felt like a knock-off) and the first volume of the graphic novel came with Will's pendant which was really cool heheh
I had a Heart of Kandrakar too! It would light up and was so cool :D
Really, the heart of Kandrakar came out in the first volume in Italy?? Here in Brazil it was only in the 12th volume, and I remember I bought three of them because I used the heart as a necklace in every single situation and the little ball always popped out like 10 days later 😂
@@LyaBardo I bought the first number on the first day it came out and I’m pretty sure there was no necklace. The frog mug was the real staple.
@@AglajaEos where are you from? I don't remember a frog mug, and now I really wish I had one lol I guess here in Brazil the first gift was a necklace, but it wasn't the heart of Kandrakar, I believe it was a star. I loved those gifts lol
The comics art was so pretty to me, who read this at about 12. This was my hyper fixation!
I wonder if he is into DnD today or something like that..)
We girls each had a power like the WITCH girls did, and we would zoom around in the school yard twice a day, playing these games, and our "GM" would draw and come up with new adventures during the school hours haha! He was really a gem!
That time was really something
That sounds lovely ❤ I had always wanted a group of friends like that nice to know you actually got that in real life 😊
Ahww that's so precious!
That sounds like a wonderful time! Do you know what the other kids are doing today? :)
That boy watch the heart of the playground witch game! What a precious memory
This show was actually pretty fun. Shame it never got more seasons.
Yeah, deserved at least 5 seasons.
Part of it was that it veered off of where the comic was but it still deserves to at least develop it's own universe!
@@justanawkwardnerd it was...better than the comic too 😂😅
@@berilsevvalbekret772 The comic was better because it gave you so much more world to enjoy. The show had a great thing going and deserved the chance to develop more, but it just wasn't given the chance to. The fights were also so cool to watch in animation, and it's just great evidence as to why it deserves a reboot.
There were books and a lot of comics too. The books (even the unofficial ones) are pretty solid. The comics varied a lot in quality though
Fun fact, in Greek mythology Phobos is one of the twin sons of Ares, and also one of the moons of Mars (the Roman counterpart to Ares). He represents fear, specifically the fear brought by war. So a tyrant going by that name checks out.
A very fitting name for a villain.
@@DragonKingX78 It’d be funny if he had a twin called Deimos.
if my memory serves me correctly Deimos represents panick brought upon war
The fact that his parents named him that though 😑😒
Phobos is the Greek word for fear too so it's pretty fitting

I never got to the end of the comics but I heard it got worse along the line :(
Not only the story but the art too, they must have changed writers and artists and things didn't keep consistent :\
Where can one read it online? I think I once found a website with the whole comics but I lost it xD
What? ALL of them fly, have we read different comics?
If anyone is interested there are full episodes for free on UA-cam.
And the Italian comics are being published in english.
Good to know thank u
Thankfully, since Disney didn't even bother releasing season 2 on DVD and stopped selling season 1 DVDs almost 2 decades ago now
Yep. LogiebearLoganator has every episode of W.I.T.C.H. and Martin Mystery on his channel. Those shows are underated gems.
I really enjoyed rewatching the series on YT last year
Growing up in Poland, I LIVED for these comics! It was all we would talk about at school and I remember the excitement of seeing the newest release in a newspaper kiosk :D Might watch the show now at 30 yo haha Thanks for reminding me about this gem!
"Was weird" YOU DARE!?
yeah like what a heresy, W.I.T.C.H. is absolutely legendary
Me only read the comic, the show is weird
Nerissa as a season 2 villain was the best. I really recommend it, she’s is one of my favorites villains to watch to this day.
I wish they would bring it back. Only got 2 seasons of W.i.t.c.h., meanwhile look at how long Winx Club has been going on, with a reboot next year.
Only if it had the same cast and crew and as additional seasons or at least animated movies to the original series.
And season 2 never even got a DVD release, only Season 1 and good luck finding decent copies of even those nowadays
Weird thing is winx club got worse as it leaned more and more into its barbie esthetic.
Pfft 😂
Happy Halloween! W.I.T.C H. is one of my favorites. Thanks for this!
I agree.
I love the exposition part because ignoring the "exposition dump" plot stuff. I love the
Yan Lin: Story time.
Hay Lin: No grandma, not story time.
Yan Lin: STORY TIME!
To be fair, she was a member. Why not tell your daughter of grand?
Of course I remember I rewatch it every two years, it's crazy good, still holds up and unfortunately underrated as hell
This show was great. And the second season was even better as Greg Weisman from Gargoyles and Young Justice came on board.
Oh, and you all have to see the international version of the show’s opening. Way better than what the U.S. got.
Also, this way better than Winx Club. I wish THIS lasted longer!
Yeah, second seasons was much better and don't get me started on Winx Club.
Nah, the international intro sucks.
Europop is a no go.
Wait greg weisman worked on this,.
This is why I like it so much, Everything weisman touch is gold
Finland had W.I.T.C.H-magazines, I read those in my local library ALL THE TIME
Here in Latvia too. We had monthly magazines that I collected.
Same in the Netherlands. I remember loving the graphic style
We had them in Czechia too! I loved those (also they really helped me when I was learning how to read 😂 so yeah, this is definitely a trip down the memory lane)
Siis en tajunnu ees et tästä oli sarjaki, olin ihan obsessoitunu niihin lehtiin ja kirjoihin nuorempana
We had the magazines in French in Morocco, and I used to buy it every month.
Finally! I’ve been waiting for you to cover this show for so long.
Same. :3.
I remember reading the comic as a kid and I was obsessed. Then the cartoon came out and I waited for every new episode with so much excitement
Happy Halloween! I remember being obsessed with this show, and even collecting the comic books weekly.
Do you know how much I had to love this show to, as a 9 year old, secretly stay up till 11 and watch it on low volume? So much. I never missed an episode. I still hold W.i.t.c.h. As one of my favorite things just ever ❤
Man I waited so long for W.I.T.C.H to be covered my favorite is Hay Lin because she was prettiest and the funniest to me
Hay Lin was my favourite too :3
I related to her a lot because I too was the artistic kid, and I loved her sense of style! To this day I still want to copy her classic combo of legwarmers + mini-skirt!
I loved taranee 😊😅❤
i barely got to watch this show when i was a kid cuz they always aired it at like, 5 in the morning. but the very few episodes i did manage to catch had me OBSESSED, me and my friends used to roleplay as the characters on the elementary school playground. W.I.T.C.H. left such a profound impact on me that i think about it at least once a week and have been ever since i watched the first episode 22 years ago (god that feels disgusting to say, wtf do you mean it's been that long)
Thank you so much for making a video on W.I.T.C.H. I've been requesting you over the past 2 years. Now I'm subscribing to your channel forever. 🤩💚
i was a huuuuge fan of the show when i was little when it originally aired, i should rewatch it again tbh. i still have some of the graphic novels and mcdonald's toys, too!
I am still a fan, series deserves so much more love.
In 6th grade I had a W.i.t.c.h. calendar and also read a few of the graphic novels - also in my school library. Thank you for this video and a trip down memory lane.
You unlocked a hidden memory! I had the early volumes of the WITCH manga. I used to love that series!
I read the comics as a kid, they were a favorite of mine. I loved how complex each character was and felt their struggles. I loved Cornelia the best, probably because i wanted to be her. But Irma, imperfect, headstrong, often silly Irma, had my heart too.
Thank you Italy 🇮🇹 for creating this masterpiece ❤️
Keep the nostalgia train going my friend 👏🏾💪🏾
Can you believe I'm 21 and still scared of Lord Cedric? 😂😂😂 Loved this show and comics but still can't bring myself to revisit them 😂
I never watched the show, but I read the books (I still have volumes 1-4 of the graphic novel). They were one of my favorites as a kid.
A lot of good animated series ended too soon.
Oh the memories ❤ I loved this show when it came out. Characters were endearing, their adventures were engaging, action was fun, loved the style. And Will to Love still rocks.
The show definitely deserved more recognition
I was obsessed with this show!! I have several of the Mcdonald's toys from the early 2000s
Dragon Booster was already done over a year ago. It's on this channel.
@chinnuatluri I couldn't remember. Maybe Gi Joe: Renegades.
We are, Witch!
Water, fire, earth, and air. Guardians Unite!
The theme had no reason to go so hard.
@@KingOpenReviewand it's all thanks to Marion Raven. But what if I told you there was a soundtrack album?
As a fan of both franchises (but we'll talk only about W.i.t.c.h. here) I can tell you the war between the 2 fandoms was a huge thing until the mid 2010's. 😂
The series is kinda cool at its own.
Yeah, still love this series.
Yet, despite that season being so much better, it didn't get a single DVD release like season 1 did.
Really hate Disney for that
I found this video while feeling nostalgic about this! I really wanted someone to talk about it and finally! I personally havent watched the show, i mostly was a comic reader (although those were just passed down to me lol!) but little me had a big obsession with W.I.T.C.H,
I really wished that this show and along with the comics gets more recognition.
I loved WITCH when i was younger. The tv show was very good, and i also read many if the graphic novels. I wish the show would come back or be revived in some way
I just want the series on blu ray.
I found out about it a few months ago. Watched the whole series and read some comics. They were good.
I was such a huge fan of the novels, I remember even getting Wills pendant with one of them. I believe I wore it to school and felt cool as hell. Thanks for this blast from the past!
Any time new W.I.T.C.H. content drops, an angel gets their wings
I 100% forgot about this part for my childhood until you just reminded me of it. Thanks!
This is literally my favorite show/comic i am jumping in joy rn omg 😹😹
This is how I find out they made a new graphic novel! Dang. Thanks Jordan. Awesome Video as always
Watched this series recently I actually really enjoyed this.
Glad you enjoyed it.
OMG you just triggered a core memory, I still have the comics in the box at my parents house, and I loved W.I.T.C.H so much, having merchandise and … ❤❤
12:11 i got an ad right after the ad in the show, talk about Tv Timming, WOW💀
I was very much into Witch back in the day the comics also had some sections, tests and they came with a small gift. This video made me feel very nostalgic
This show was mind-blowing with its vibrant animation. It was huge in both USA and the UK.
I agree, wish it got more seasons.
@@DragonKingX78The reason why it didn't get mire seasons was poor ratings in the USA.
I absolutely loved Witch and still do! It was such a great series and had this special feeling to it (at least for me) bc it was so different and dark and exciting, so sad they canceled it. (Fun fact, I only started watching Winx club bc Witch was over and I needed more of that kind of show😅)
I watched both seasons on UA-cam this year! The series has aged well! I love the snarky millennial humor lol Cornellia is my girl!
Will is my girl, Irma is a second favorite.
I was a big W.i.t.c.h.-fan back in the day. Thank you for this trip down memory lane!! 😁
This is better than winx club.
Yes, much better.
Meh nothing can ever beat Sailor moon, all other magical girls are cheap ripoffs.
I love this show so much. It had so much to offer, and the intro song for it was actually wonderful. Let's hope something comes out of it in the feature.
This was my first graphic novel purchase at the scholastic book fair in elementary. I always called dibs on being Cornelia 😭😭💗
I wonder what he thinks of the series and his work on it.
@@DragonKingX78 He says he barely remembers anything about it.
However, knowing the plans they had for seasons 3-4 and that he went to work on Ben 10 seasons 1-2 shortly after, I think he may have coopted ideas and applied them to Ben 10.
I interviewed him recently if you want to see.

And then she said "You let a mouse outside with a cat? Haven't you watched cartoons?" She made a Tom and Jerry reference.
I don't remember Taranee having a younger sibling. I know she has a older brother. Cornelia has a younger sister though.
@@TheYoungGeninSasuke Irma has a younger brother too
Oh my GOD I can't believe this came up in my algorithm!
There was no need to "invent fashion", as the popular saying goes in Brazilian Portuguese.
holy this unlocked some memories, crazy how every "wait...remember" vid on this channel covers a show i have encountered on way or another. i mean i spent the first 16 years of my life exclusively behind a screen, rarely ever played outside and didnt have wifi until i was 13.
when I tell you I was obsessed with that show, I was OBSESSED
I remember really loving this show. But at the same time i barely remember anything of it nowdays.
It was one of those weird shows where everyone was of the opinion that its a girls cartoon, yet from what i knew it was mostly popular amogst boys. Another show like that was Totally Spies
I am sure it has a lot of male fans.
@@DragonKingX78
Trust me, it did
man, I was OOBSESSED with the graphic novels! They were amazing! Think it was released every month or so and I had all of them! haha ❤
I can't help but notice how there was more fantasy-themed media during the 2010s than there is today.
These days, all people want to watch on TV are reality shows and poorly done superhero content.
Give me epic quests, mythical creatures, knights, kings, wizards and battles against evil over the MCU and Jersey Shore ANY day
Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter were HUGE throughout the 2000s and it spilled over to the next decade.
Innocence and curiosity got lost with poor education and social media. Plus publishers went data statistics route and probably dont greenlight adventurous ideas
@@MatteoTomatto I'm talking about nowadays
I love these older shows are getting talked about again this and trollz just popped up on my tiktok i loved both when I was younger thank you for covering this one!
I liked W.I.T.C.H as a kid, I had a few of the books and probably watched the show. I think they had a few toys at one point too, if I had any it might very been a McDonalds too.😅
It prob was they had it in their happy meals I got Irma
@moonlightprincess449 Yeah, a few people said in the comments that there were Happy Meal toys after I posted, I was young enough to have a vague memory of it 😊 I'm glad it wasn't a false memory 😅
Irma!
It really holds a special place in my heart even after all those years
1:09 Happy Halloween!
I think I saw glimpses of this series when I was younger but I can’t be sure but did I get into it when I was in middle school on UA-cam and I really enjoyed it and the theme song is a bop
