Looks pretty neat! Lots of strategy, and you know how much I love a good strategy game!! Great job on the video, of course! No doubt, you are the measuring stick by which all others are compared, and you are the best!
Great video! I just bought Tiny Towns and, as I always do before playing a new game, I came to your channel to learn how to play.
Thanks Will - I hope you have a great time playing!
I love your videos! You have been one of my biggest inspirations for my own channel! Which I just started because of you. You Kill it Rodney!
Thanks so much - and hey, you have yourself a new subscriber (I could use to tips on strategy for Root :) )
Wow. Thank you for the Honor! Next video is going up today :)
There's a lot about that game that I like. The variety of buildings to help mix things up from play to play looks pretty robust.
You present it such a clear way. A game I'm really looking foward to get. I don't so often get hooked before playing a game but just see the genious in the design.
Thanks for the kind words - glad you enjoyed what you saw!
As usual a great tutorial! Thanks for always providing great value.
Very kind of you to say John!
Another outstanding video, Rodney! I have been following this channel for a while now, and any new game we get, there is most likely a video by you. You explain everything so easily and throughly, we love it! I just got this game from my brother for my birthday this passed weekend and it seems right up my/our alley! Looking forward to playing a few rounds with the wife and family, thanks again for wonderful tutorials! 😄
Happy birthday! Thanks for the kind words and have a great time playing :)
This looks like a fun game! Thanks for sharing it! I've built quite a wishlist of board games on Amazon based on your videos!
I'm glad these have been helpful!
That casual spin and catch in the intro. So slick.
*bows*
How many takes were there?
This game doesn't interest me but I wanted to say thanks for your consistently high quality output. Must be like hitting the jackpot for a designer's/publisher's game to make it onto a WIP tutorial. I bet games that feature on your channel sell considerably more than they otherwise would. In the past, I know I've based my purchasing decisions on the fact there's a WIP video for a game. Absolutely sterling job, sir. You're an indispensable asset to the hobby.
Thank you for the kind words as usual Sunny - always appreciated!
This doesn't affect the quality, in fact it increases it, but I think every WIP video is now sponsored by the publisher of whatever game it is. I think in the past, Rodney did do WIP videos for games he wanted to do them for, but nowadays if you have a lineup of publisher's at your door with money in hand, it's hard to do videos for your personal favourites. This is not a knock at all. Rodney and his crew do amazing work.
This game looks challenging and refreshing at the same time. :) Thanks for this video!
I'm glad you enjoyed checking it out John!
Looks like a fun game. I hope we'll get a play through of this. I would like to Watch It Played. Lol
Just to clarify, at 8:30, the player wouldn't have been forced to play a glass since they had a glass factory, correct?
Correct! You passed the test - I'd say you now know how to play now :)
my boy rodney "fresh fade" smith this game looks great love the colors
Glad you like the new cut ;)
Fade is too effective. The fresh teach faded from memory and I all I remember is how good his hair looked.
Guess I have to watch again. 🤷🏽♀️
great explanation! Im so excited to play this at game night!
I hope you have a great time playing!
Now this seems like a simple, but very thinky game. I like it, I need to keep an eye out for it!
Glad you enjoyed checking it out!
Cheers Rodney, I just ordered this game after seeing your board game geek play through. Great explanation - I’m sure I’ll be back when it arrives. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the play through - have fun playing!
Loved it! My brothers will like this game very much :) thanks for the instructions
You're very welcome!
What a fun looking game! Gonna have to add this to my list. Great video as always, nice haircut btw!
Thanks - I hope you have a fun time playing!
Great game, great video, nifty new added "tweaks" in style to your presentation (including dramatic walks from the board game shelves and back to the game playing area, plus fun box flips, which I'd love to see the blooper reel to ;-) )... Thank you for continuing to teach games in a very coherent manner so others can play and teach the games to others! (Where are the rest of the Watch It Played crew?)
Glad you're still enjoying Doug!
Thanks for teaching! You are the best!
Thank you kindly!
Great video. Fantastic looking game. I'm adding it to my Amazon wish list.
Glad you enjoyed what you saw!
Thanks Rodney! just got a copy of this game as a gift. So much easier and faster than laboring through even a modest rulebook!
I hope you have a great time playing James!
Can't wait to try this today! Your videos are our go to for rules :)
I hope you have a great time playing!
This is a fantastic game we got because of your videos on the series! I absolutely LOVE how they have an easy variant. So few games have that, especially spatial ones! I am horrific with spatial games, and my husband is a whiz. XD Neither one of us like it when he wins a game by like 50+ points. XD So, in Tiny Towns, I play with the easy variant (leave a max of 2 cubes in a "bank" to place on my map whenever I want) and my husband plays the game normally, and our scores are always close!
Hey, nice to hear that combo has worked out well for you both :)
Looks great!
Thanks for checking it out Peter!
Nice haircut Mr. Smith. Game looks interesting. Thanks for showing us the ropes. Keep up the great work sir.
Thank you kindly!
Looks like a fun game... Something my wife & daughter would like. :) Thanks again!
You bet Steven!
Thank you for the playthrough. Looks like a very interesting game indeed. :)
I appreciate you checking it out!
Sweet box lid spin at the end.
Thank you :)
Rodney saving my Board Game Friday. Again. Thanks a lot.
A pleasure to assist - have fun playing :)
Great video thank you
You're very welcome Michael!
My friend just bought this game and said it was awesome. I look forward to playing it
I hope you have a great time!
We just gave this game for our friend's birthday. She has some cognitive difficulties, and this is a game that is easy to simplify and scale down if you need to. Great video!
I hope they enjoy playing Tiny Towns. That was a very thoughtful gift. :)
-Chaz
I might buy this for the killer little building meeps
8:30, would they not be able to use their factory to turn the glass into the wheat?
You passed the test - I'd say you now know how to play :)
Was coming here to point that out
Beat me to it :)
yay, i'm part of the smart club!
@@WatchItPlayed I'd like to say I was smart enough to catch it... But at least I was smart enough to read the comments ;-)
Nice tutorial pal
Looking forward to playing my copy.
Have a great time playing :)
Watch It Played thanks pal
Aw the cards have little woodland critters on them!
That is interesting. I got the German version of the game today and here the resource distribution with cards is the default ruleset and the master builder rules are the variant. I guess they think that the variant with less player interactivity is better for the European market.
Maybe so! Have a fun time playing Daniel!
Another great video. Now if only you offered tips on how to improve spatial reasoning!
I played this on GameNight (spoiler!), you'll see I'm not too good at that either :)
Nice haircut Rodney! Looking sharp!
Danke!
Slick new intro!
Question about 6:00-6:15 : can you "double feed" cottages, or only get points once, for each fed cottage? Seems like the second farm is kind of a waste in that current configuration (of course more might be added later).
You can't double feed.
Yeah the example was to explain for the rule worked - hopefully that player would build a few more cottages before the game ends :)
I guess I need to stop what Im doing and start watching! Neat haircut btw!
Especially if you live in a tiny town!
Hope you enjoy :)
@@WatchItPlayed I sure did!
PLEASE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP!
PLEASE MAKE A TUTORIAL ON RATTLE BATTLE!!!!😊😁
You are the best channel in explaining boardgames on UA-cam, not kidding, so please take your time explaining Rattle battle which is quite big
Thanks for the interest. I talk a bit about that here: ua-cam.com/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/v-deo.html&t=342
Went through my-by now usual-way of buying a game:
- Watch if Rodney explains it
- Buy the game if it feels right
You do it with such passion and skill, Rodney. Don't know how many times I've said it by now :D
Thanks so much Gee, really glad to be a part of your gaming adventures!
Cool game
Preordered.
Glad you dug it!
Thanks again.
You're very welcome!
I'm wondering how is that incredible game didn't win Spiel des Jahres
Glad you've enjoyed this one!
Thanks Rondey! Btw- where are you getting the plates for the buildings/tokens?
I'll likely have a formal partner for these soon, so I'll properly announce that in the video, or at least in the description of the video, once I have that worked out.
@@WatchItPlayed thanks
Rodney, we need to know how many takes was it to get the intro box flip?!
First time, every time! ;)
@@WatchItPlayed I would love to see a "box flip outtakes" video sometime. I know you could make one, Rodney. ;)
@@boardgameknight2791 I got you covered! ua-cam.com/video/9WXTNh3fsM0/v-deo.html
@@WatchItPlayed LOL! Rodney, that totally made my day. Thank you.
Hey thanks for this video. In one of the last moves a player called glass to stop another player from making a structure, but that player had a glass factory. In this instance wouldn't the player with the glass factory be allowed to select a different resource because of the factory?
I would think so (it's hard for me to say for sure, because I'm making assumptions about the situation, but based on what your saying, and my understanding of the situation, yes).
Your explanations are always so thorough and easy to understand! I'm really digging this channel! Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words Nayo!
That's a lot of tokens!
Ma boi Rodney!
2:00 Dang you pulled two fast ones... ;)
will you check out root?
Thanks for the interest. I talk a bit about that here: ua-cam.com/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/v-deo.html&t=342
This feels like a roll & Write game without the rolling... or writing.
Check This S*** Out so therefore... by definition... it is not a roll & write game...
S Gitter They’re saying that it has a similar feel to a roll and write game, even if it doesn’t use the same mechanics.
With the Inn, does that mean you're able to score a maximum of 12 points? For example it has to be the only Inn in that row and column...or is it just that it has to be alone in either the row or column?
Hey Jeremy, thanks for checking out the video. While I do try to answer all questions on the videos I make, I avoid getting into specific card effects, as that would be a little more than I could manage across all my videos. I do recommend visiting the Tiny Towns forums on BoardGameGeek for that though!
How do you score a factory at the end? If I have a factory and it has a cube on it, what is the scoring? Do I take a point off because of the cube on top or no?
The Factory you see in this video doesn't score you points, it gives you an ongoing benefit during the game. Hope that helps!
Is it possible to completely fill up your town with buildings? Won't there inevitably be one space left which you cannot fill (assuming there are no buildings that require only one resource)?
Correct.
@@WatchItPlayed Kinda weird that you are guaranteed -1 in scoring then. Feels like it should be -1 for each blank space after the first one, or rework the way blank spaces are scored in general. I get the "reward efficiency" element of penalizing players for planning inefficiently, but it feels clunky that no matter what you do you'll still be punished (granted 1 point isn't much but still)
@@dfreshv I'd wager this is just for ease of rules. It's much easier to remember -1 per empty space than it is to remember -1 per empty space after the first one.
What happens when you get the hammer (master builder) but all your squares are full with resources and buildings, but you CAN build? You can't call a resource...so do you build and then call one?
When your town is filled with resources and you cannot (or choose not to) construct any buildings, your town is completed. You are out of the game and can start calculating your score.
So on the turn where you filled your board, your time in the game ended, and you would not be passed the hammer (it would go to the next player).
I have a question that might be off-topic: Where can I buy those tokens? Both the cubes and the buildings.
Tried googling but I failed :(
They were likely custom made for this game, so the best way, would be to buy the game.
@@WatchItPlayed Well then, I'll need 2 boxes :D for an expanded game and many players :D
There will be AWAYS one empty space rigth? becuse u need at least 2 blocks to make 1 building, i`m correct?
There is any way to REALLY fill the intire town? (all the space with constructions)??
It's been awhile since I shot this, but I found this thread on the topic: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2425052/not-possible-fill-all-16-squares
May I ask if this will this be a suitable 2P game, given that there could be a possibility that both players end up building almost the same type of buildings? (If there's no intention to prevent blocking/disrupting the building intentions of the other player)? Will appreciate if anyone could evaluate the suitability of this game for 2P as well! Thank you so much :)
As that's more of a review question, I won't be able to address that. I can say that in my experience with 2P games, people did not build the same patterns, but your mileage may vary.
@@WatchItPlayed thank you so much! Really appreciated your feedback, I guess I will go ahead with the purchase. Looking forward to more of your videos!
How many times did you have to flip that box?
First time, every time :)
Enquiring minds want to know!
Does anyone know the advantage of the Bank building? You can put a resource on It, but can no longer call that one during your turn. Does it count as a permanent resource in that spot, or anywhere on the board? The rules are not clear.
I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
How many takes to get that box flip right? lol :D
First time, every time, of course! ;)
8:39 In your example, you select Glass, but your opponent has a Glass Factory. They will not be forced to place glass after all. Too bad!
This is true!
Sorry but your plan failed at 8:30 the second player had glass on their factory so could Pick the wheat 😆
Why did you put the buildings down on their side though? Wouldn’t it look prettier and like an actual town, if the buildings are standing and you see their rooftops from a bird’s eye perspective? :)
I did that so it would be clearer for you to see the buildings since I'm doing more of a top down view. When you're playing at home, by all means stand them up :)
6:42 That is not diagonal :)
Well, those two pieces are diagonal to the piece I was talking about :)
First view 🤠
What I like about this game, is there really isn't any luck involved. It's pure skill / smarts. It's a real brain-teaser, and it really favors the player with good spacial ability, flexibility, and ability to think many moves ahead. You can't blame your loss on bad rolls or bad draws. It's all up to your own planning and skill. The towers are really the only thing that involves a little chance. Also, I find this game gets harder and more frustrating with more players. I like it as a small 2-3 person game.
Glad you've been enjoying this one TJ!
2nd view! 😎
It is definitely not tiny.
