Rodney, I must say that I like the small change to the format. The more informal opening and closing do actually feel more inviting. Pulling the game off your shelf is a nice touch :-)
Rodney has the formula for instructional videos down perfectly. He is always prepared with clear, concise, and illustrative examples, and he creates an inviting environment from which to watch. Love 'Watch It Played' videos!
For what it's worth: I don't miss the polo. Gotta say, the "trustworthiness" of these videos come from their production value and accuracy--not a recurring outfit. Keep up the good work; it's appreciated.
Superb logical organization, no un-necessary information, right to the point, great editing... you're easily the best boardgame reviewer/how to play channel on UA-cam, and its not even close.
My husband, friend and I actually played this about a week ago! We got a couple things wrong, so this video definitely helped clarify a couple things we were fuzzy on. Thanks, Rodney! Your videos are the best!
So glad to hear that. I try to hit an optimal pace. Don't want to go too slow, but going too fast can make the information hard to absorb. Thanks for the kind feedback!
This video was so helpful. Thank you, Rodney! We admittedly were unclear after a couple passes through the game's rules. This video was exactly what we needed. We were up and running after this. Thanks, again.
Grateful for your how to play videos - they’re the best! Just got to play this for the first time today and without this video getting to the game would have taken a lot longer.
I'm planning to teach this to my gaming crew -- Tío Mike, Chief Lonas, and Coach Scott -- and this video does an amazing job to prep for that tutorial effort! I played this game once with a friend who taught me, so I bought the game and now get a chance to teach to the gaming group. Thanks so much Rodney for organizing the video in a natural, concise and fun to watch format.
Finally got around to buying Quacks and the Herb Witches expansion, started reading the rules and then thought to myself 💭 “I wonder if Rodney has done a video?”, and sure enough here it is. Thanks so much for another great explanation video, which make learning new games so much simpler, and fun!
@@j_a.0maybe Amanda is just actually a witch so this game comes naturally to her. That’s the only reasonable explanation I can think of because even I’m confused and I love games like this lol
I’ve come to expect this at this point, but your videos always teach me how to play a tabletop game better than any other video. I find myself watching one or two videos on a game and remaining confused on how to play it, until I watch your video on it and end up knowing the game like the back of my hand. Anyway, The Quacks Of Quedlinburg looks fun as hell, and I’m definitely picking it up!
I freaking love your videos so much. They're so pleasing to watch. Seriously. You guys put to much attention to detail into your work. I love how everything is centered and explained so logically. Awesome work!
I just bought this game (seduced by the art and muliple bits, as ever) and it's SO helpful to have such a clear and friendly video to give an introduction/guide. i'm terrible with rules so this is weight it's worth in gold! Subbed :D
Since years the go to channel for how to play board games. Lets hope I can convince my friends to play my favorite game today, last time (before corona) they were not so stocked.
Amazing that this week I will be playing Quacks and Cry Havoc and both times, Rodney saved me the time reading the rules and instead I can hear it with his recommendation of 1.5 times speed. Thanks Rodney and hope all is well in 2020!
Thank you again for your fantastic videos. This convinced me to buy the game, and also allowed us to quickly setup and start playing with the family in minutes without any confusion or problems. You have a gift for making the complex simple. Much appreciated. Best wishes from Finland.
I liked the fact that this game felt a bit different to many others out there. It was fun and relatively simple once we’d played a turn. My kids might even play it with me!
Merry Christmas Rodney to you and your family, playing this today and there is no better place to come to learn a new game. Wishing you all the best for the new year.
I'd love for you to do a side project: The Rules I Left For You. Revisit a game that had some extra rules you left for us to discover on our own and talk about them in a short video, maybe discuss how they impact the game or editorialize if you like/dislike the rule, option, variant.
Thank you very much for the instructions. Our original game is in German, which we do not speak, and it would be a nightmare finding our way around the game without your tutorial!
This was a Christmas presents to myself and one of the last games I have to open and learn. With upwards of 5-8 inches of snow expected today, I see a Quacks of Quedlinburg snow party (starting with this video).
Quick comment to say my friends and I just played this for the first time and this video made the setup and playing very easy and fun, we often use instructions too but might check your channel for walk throughs in future as it makes it a lot more relaxing, thanks!
Thank god you've made this video as the game instructions don't actually tell you to replace the ingredient chips back in the bag at the end of the turn!! Sort of important point...
P.s. i think the game rules were supposed to include a link to this video via QR code, but it prob comes as no surprise when they can't put an important rule in, that they messed that up too.
Okay, this game looks a little complex but I feel like you could get it down after just a few rounds through. Great video. Now I really wanna check this out!
I know it's scripted this way or whatever, but it really gives a sense of "here is a beloved game from my collection I'd like to introduce you to" instead of perhaps "this is a game that only exists for me to make a video about." Not that you ever convey the latter, but seeing it among your collection before looking at it in detail makes me feel like you're invested enough in the game to have it there, which makes me want to try to get into the game even more.
❤ Thanks a lot for this. I shared this to 12 of my associates beacause we'll be playing it for a tournament prep (I know it sounds silly 😅 but I've experimented ways to invite more people into playing board games, starting with easier ones).
What a great video. Played this last week with friends but admit I didn't get it totally. Thought it would be a good one to play with the kids so ordered it. Got back well late last night from our heroquest night and was , at midnight, trying to teach it to my youngest. I was flailing a bit as couldn't quite remember how everything worked so kept having to refer to the booklet which is annoying and makes for slow gameplay. You explained it so clearly I think another couple of watches and run through and we will all be clear on exactly how it all works bit the kid had fun so yay.
Rodney: This side is for a variant we'll discuss later. Also Rodney 12 minutes later : These rules I'll leave for you to discover on your own. Well played sir hehe
I’m not sure why, but I enjoy the new style of intro/outro where you hand-cam taking the game out of your library and later put it back at the end. Perhaps because it’s good to see you’re not confined to your set? In any case, I dig it.
Great video! I am now watching all of your videos of games I have to see if I have stuffed any rules up. Only question is, are we ment to start with a ruby? I can't see it in the rules. But I am known for acciddently skipping parts in the rule book
Great video, I have a question about the green chip. In the second phase, when you need to evaluate the "last chip" or the "next-to-the last chip," do they count as chips? or do they count as the spaces that these chips occupied? Like the minute 9:36 example, if the last green chip is a 2 value chip, it means that this chip will occupy the 9 space in the pot, leaving a blank space between the 1 value green chip and the 2 value green chip, so we can apply the same effect to gain the two rubies, or this blank space is interfering with the "next-to-the last chip" order. I hope I made myself clear, thanks for the help!
I'm not completely sure I understand your question, but let me try answering this way: you do not worry about spaces between your last and next-to last chip. The effect is only concerned with "the last two chips" in your pot, even if there are spaces between them.
So thankful for your videos! It has helped us learn so many new games :) Who makes the clear component holders that you have and where can we purchase them?
I forget which ones those are, but I now use the Game Trayz ones pretty exclusively, and you can pick those up here: boardgamegeekstore.com?aff=2 - if you use that link a small portion of the sale also comes back to Watch It Played. You'll dig the trays, they are excellent.
I like the new animated, condensed intro. The "selfie" style intro and outro was a little distracting and I don't actually remember what you said during that time.
Question! The rule book isn’t clear: do all players reset from the droplet/rat space at the beginning of each turn? Or just those who busted? Or reached the spoon?
Not exactly sure what you're asking Scott, but you will find an index in the description of the video, to help you find the section of the rules you are asking about.

Another great tutorial. Well done. Where did you find the plastic components cups? Thank you and happy new year.

Rodney, great video as always. One question tho, on the last turn - if you blow up, can you still trade rubies or coins for victory points?

holy shit I though it was the total number of all chips that had to be below 7, not only the white chips!! Game changing!
Yeah, that's a pretty big difference - enjoy your future games ;)
