    I'd take it apart and upgrade everything posible. Thicker wires, beef up Parts if needed. I might get that one for my bike. And create a one wheel trailer attached to my seatpost to tow a car battery behind me with a trickle charger to charge my bike on the go. I'd be able to travel all around townfor a few days be for recharging the car battery.

    Bought and received today a 500 watt 36 volt front wheel kit, haven't opened box yet, (no battery) motor from website looks exactly like this one, it says on box shipping weight 44 pounds!! before I open it does anybody think 44 lbs shipping weight for a 500 watt conversion kit (no battery) sounds way to heavy?

    I recently purchased this kit through Amazon. I must say the service was quick, but the instructions on how to install were completely lacking. It came with a small book that showed the color codes and not much more. I followed the color codes and took a lot of time installing and making sure the wires all were installed correctly and neatly.
    The results were terrible. It does not work the minute I plugged it in it sparked. It shorted out and has not turned once. I have tried to contact the seller to no avail and Amazon just ignores me. I do not recommend this product. and support is none existant.

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  7 років тому

      There are many different variations and sellers for these kits. They are not made by the same manufacturer. Mine also sparks when I connect the power wire. It produces sparks because it needs to charge up the capacitors inside the controller. If you have problems with it, maybe there's something you're missing in the installation process? Try just to connect these 3 wires: Power, Hall sensor, and the 3-color wire bundle (yellow, blue, and green) and see if it works. Don't hook up everything so maybe you can use the process of elimination to figure out the problem. Or maybe you just have a dud. I'm almost done with my project for this bike and I'll post videos of detailed installations in the next few days.

      steve bigler I thought of doing that, hopefully being able to use the same throttle and battery for both motors, otherwise its prob just a matter of how much space you have on the Bike. I will probably add a mid-drive to the front hub I got for more torque at a standstill and to help up the hills.. Maybe a small battery pack with high output.

    Can you tell me the benefit of a front wheel vs rear. It seems a rear wheel kit is much better in all ways that really matter.
    I just ask because I was sent the same front wheel but I had ordered a rear. And don't want to pay shipping back. But it just seems strange putting on front of a MTB. Won't get very good traction which is why I bought one, to go up some hills. This thing will just want to spinout I'm sure.

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  5 років тому

      Unless you're going up some very steep hills, it always has good traction. I've used my front wheel hub ebike for over 2 years and never had any problem with traction going up hill. It may make the front a bit heavy. But I can tell you the rear hub motor will make the back heavy, too! I have both ebikes with front and rear motors. You still might have trouble going up hill with a rear motor because now it has a tendency to do wheelie just because the rear is too heavy (especially if you have a battery pack on the rear rack also!)

    • @FlickTricksOffical
      @FlickTricksOffical 6 років тому

      The motor is AC current and the controller sees a "~" waveform of the passing magnets, north south north south and so on and puts out a pulse width modulation. What you *can* do is bypass the throttle cable wires and stick a 6 leg potentiometer inline possibly. But you would have to look up the wiring diagram to be sure 100%. The controller wants to see resistance increasing on three wires, and dropping on the other 3 as far as i know. A Razor Ecosmart Metro 36V uses the same set up but motor is DC.

    • @FlickTricksOffical
      @FlickTricksOffical 6 років тому

      If you had a DC motor with 2 wires you can put power straight in, but make sure it is current limited.

    I have the exact same kit. What's the minimum amount of amp hour that the motor will run. Every seller says they need different nominal amps. One says 11.6 ah, one said 17.5 ah, and another said something in between. On lunacycle, the 17.5 ah is one of the most expensive... What do I go with?!

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  7 років тому

      I think they are talking about Amps, not Amp hour. They are not the same thing. Amps is the current required to run the motor when it's under load. I don't know the minimum Amps required for this motor. But I'll test it out in real life and will post results. But let's just say it needs at least 10 Amps to run. That's the discharge rate of your battery. If your battery is 100 Amp Hours but has less than 10A discharge rate, still, it is not capable of running this motor (when under load)

      ...carrying 200lbs total at average speed of 30mph

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  7 років тому +3

      Yes there is a formula. But you'll need an Amp meter for your actual use. How far you can go depends on how fast your speed is. The slower it is, the farther you can go. For example, if your motor consumes 5A at 20MPH and that is 5A x 48V = 240Wh. So to travel 20MPH for one hour, you will need a 240Wh battery pack (or 5Ah at 48V battery pack). If your speed is faster than 20MPH then you'll need to get a bigger battery pack to travel the same 20 miles distance.

    Whats the biggest battery i can get for this and whats the distance i can get with it?

      The only limit to the battery size is your bike frame. If you carry it on the rear rack, the limit is the weight limit of your rack. Other than that, there's no limit. My battery is 10Ah and I can go for 25 miles distance per charge.
