@@kimiannone1524 In the 60's he was - as Alan Ginsberg astutely said - 'channeling' a very different energy than that of his later years. As Dylan has very honestly said himself, he has no idea who that person was anymore. Maybe he was plugged into the same shamanistic stream that flowed through Woody Guthrie? But it stopped flowing. Personally I think Dylan was embarrassed by the Nobel award and took months to succumb to blandishments even to deign to receive it. (back in the day, it was Clapton who was 'God'... at least in the UK) Joni got manipulated by the 'vaccine' scam - vulnerable as she was through illness and feelings of rejection by the music biz. She and Young sold out big time... I loved them both - but no longer...
I met Joni Mitchell in a vintage dress shop in the east village of NYC many years ago. So sweet. I told her I was a huge fan, and she gave me a bigger smile...very nice. Love her voice and her music. Hope she is doing better and recovering.
The first time I listened to this Album, Both sides now, I was instantly mesmerized by Joni's Voice and the Music Arrangements. Absolutely and Insanely BEAUTIFUL!
Joni has touched me with her ominous presence over the radio & my sister's LP since I was in the 6th grade: 1969. I saw her in '75 with eyes wide open. She is so classily graceful. I still cry whenever I see or hear anything of her... even in the grocery store when I hear her overhead. Ohhhh, how she has sung everything I feel of my own life. I love Joni like no other. "Love is touching souls... surely, you've touched mine."
Saw Joni at Big Sur in 1969 with Joan Baez, Stills, Nash, 'n Young. Magical weekend. They rolled up in a VW van with Joni rolled up in a bag in the back.
I certainly feel the same way about her, however, I have been brought up short lately by reading a Rolling Stone article and listening to recent interviews, in which she is been reported as being extremely mentally ill, difficult and always has been that way... Sad and upsetting for sure. You know what they say, you should never meet your heroes as the disappointment will be profound.
Maybe you should watch a few more interviews of her ? This is about the third or fourth that i have experienced this afternoon, and I doubt very much that she has 'always been that way' ... she has obviously had a lot of misunderstanding about her, and says she hasnt enjoyed fame at all .. yet her musicality and art is enough to appreciate her .. she is wonderful and doesnt deserve dissing x
I saw her on the tour for this album in West Palm Beach. I got there a couple hours early since I'd never been there before (didn't want to get lost), and pulled into the parking lot as she sound-checked "Hejira". I thought, "Does it get better than this?" Two hours later, it did. What a night.
I saw her in concert at the Garden with the full orchestra when this album came out..... about a half hour into the show I felt a strange tickle on my face..... It was tears..... It was so beautiful.
She is Western Canadian through and through. Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia Provinces claim her equally, as she has roots in all three. She attended Saskatchewan's Centennial Year in 2005 at their invitation as that is where she grew up as a child and teen; the Banff Center, a world-renowned audio & visual arts development and research school in a resort town in Alberta's Rocky Mountains, has had her as a consultant as she was born not too far away in Fort MacLeod (pronounced McCloud); and of course she has had her principal residence on the British Columbia Coast near Vancouver since the 1970's, her "For The Roses" album cover photo was taken there.
I saw in concert in the 70s at a small venue. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I went back stage and got her autograph. It's still one of my most prized possessions. Even her signature was a work or art.
Joni, THANK YOU a million times, I was in one of those "hard-time bands with Negro Affectations" I was and still am an R&B player & fan but when I'm alone and need solace and "love and understanding" I look to you, you are the most talented composer and singer of our times, not only that but a fantastic guitar player, something so many people seem to miss.I know you are really sick right now, I hope to God you get better not for us mere greedy mortals but for yourself, so YOU can enjoy a bit more of life before you go. In the presence of genius… The mood the lighting her poignant and deepened voice reminded me of the later days of Judy Garland as she sang in a black turtle neck in the spotlight. And thanks to whoever conceived this beautiful rendition with the full orchestra. Stunning. Joni … forever my heart- heroine 💙🙏✨
There are no words for how this artist has influenced me over the years. Two or three artists really effect you over your life,Joni was one of my 3 or 4. Always will defer to them because of what they taught me to hear.
My dad turned me on to Joni Mitchell after he had heard and fell in love with Free Man in Paris while on a road trip. When he came home, he bought me Court and Spark, on vinyl, of course. In that format, I listened to side one over and over, which included Free Man in Paris, and never listened to side two, even though my cousin told me it was also good. When I bought Court and Spark on CD at least a decade later, I listened to it in its entirety and realized what a truly great album it is.
Joni's music has always helped me to forget my unhappiness; even her more melancholy songs have a way of helping me to retain my humanity and overcome my bitterness, if only for a little while.
The modest genius gives it all to her cosmic stars as Joni says....Against the current for most of her young life, she's made herself legendary and has stayed ever-grateful and gorgeous! Extraordinarily attractive chanteuse!!
She's so far ahead of her time STILL. I bet most of her fans have not even got this far in her career yet, they are still so busy enjoying what she did in the 60's 70's & 80's. Always a supreme honor to hear her.
I am a HUGE Joni Mitchell fan. As such,I am surprised I never knew she appeared on the Rosie O'Donnell Show. Thanks to youtube and the amazing people who keep supplying it with product, some of which I have no idea how they ever find, performances, interviews, etc. such as this one can be enjoyed and appreciated again and again.
Both Sides Now... has more meaning for me now hearing Joni record/perform it now, at this time in her life and certainly in mine. The words mean everything to me now. Thank you Joni
Joni Mitchell - an artist to cherish, to respect, and to love. I first noticed her songs over 40 years ago, when I was in my mid-teens (and to notice Joni's songs is to love them) and I can't (and don't want to) imagine how bleak my subsequent life would have been like without them. I was fortunate enough to see Joni Mitchell live three times - first in 1979, when she was on tour with Metheny, Pastorius, Brecker, Alias, Mays, and the Persuasions, and last in 2000 with orchestra. Life-changing!!
I first heard this song during my youth, around the time when Joni first presented it to be heard. I loved it then. A few decades later, Joni presents this song as it was aired on April 10th, 2000. I am hearing this version for the first time on August 26th, 2018. I am loving, again, "Both Sides Now" and loving Joni for creating such truly timeless music and lyrics. All of her music and lyrics are timeless.
How many songs move the needle of humanity? This "late" version of Both Sides Now, fearlessly sung by Joni, is one such song. I'm going to weep with abandon someday when he passes from this world into the next (she turned 80 in 2024). Take your time Joni. I love you.
Amazing to hear this song again after so many years.......she has yet again brought me to another moment in my life with her soulful voice and words of wisdom
this is wonderful!!! thanks Joni,Rosie, and Rosie's brothers! and a big thank you to the band,,,you really did Joni and all her fans proud.Brilliant, all!🤗🤗🤗
Joni's been there for us since I was in my teens....grown with her...and loved every twist and turn and smooth roads...Heard her in Austin Tx in the 1970's....Dylan showed up...What impressed me so much ...her concert and records were identical in quality....which told me she didn't rely on studio tricks and production....amazing
What a great journey she's brought us on, from her earliest songs to this wonderful cover decades later. A great look at life through a great lens from the other side. She's a true master and I'm grateful to her.
Ross Gill a lot of people think this is Judy Collins’ song. And “Urge for Going” was Tom Rush. And “Woodstock” was CSN...God knows how many Dylan songs are attributed to Peter, Paul and Mary!

That arrangement of the song clouds is amazing!
One of the greatest songs I've ever heard sung.
Grazie di cuore per aver postato questa perla.
Un abbraccio dall' Italia.
Nice segment. I love her appreciation of a light mood. Made me very happy.
Deeper than her original. Brings me to tears. Beautiful soul. You are missed.
When I bought Court and Spark on CD at least a decade later, I listened to it in its entirety and realized what a truly great album it is.
hannjenn~ what a beautiful memory..Your father was good to do that for you! 👌💞
LOVE this. Fantastic orchestra for our Goddess of Song.
Joni is the best at singing and story telling...and I have loved her music for 40+years now...
Both Sides Now... has more meaning for me now hearing Joni record/perform it now, at this time in her life and certainly in mine. The words mean everything to me now. Thank you Joni
My grandmother Elva and the songs of Joni Mitchell kept me alive in a tumultuous time of childhood and young adulthood.
A genius on every level. Bless her for the light she has brought to so many.
My all time favorite album. The arc of a love affair seen from both sides.
I'm STILL in love with Joni. Oh my, my, my.
this is perfection! ~ why she represents perfection to me is...she revisits pain, scars & flaws through the beauty of love. She is love we are love
One word describes this incredible performance... TEARS!!! 'Standing "O" Joni and the band!
She's amazing vocalist, love her a true legend
Joni is a musical genius - this was lovely.
Just pure class, ability with great humility. What's not to love about Joni Mitchell.
I just stumbled onto this-I've always loved Joni, but god this performance is tremendously moving.
How many songs move the needle of humanity? This "late" version of Both Sides Now, fearlessly sung by Joni, is one such song. I'm going to weep with abandon someday when he passes from this world into the next (she turned 80 in 2024). Take your time Joni. I love you.
Deeper and deeper. I love the evolution of this song. It shows her growth.
I saw an interview of Joni Mitchell, she said of today's music, it's all ick, and no muse.
Amazing to hear this song again after so many years.......she has yet again brought me to another moment in my life with her soulful voice and words of wisdom
What a beautiful soul! She speaks to me.
I absolutely love the richness in her voice....Comes with age sometimes. Beautiful.
What a brilliant poet, song writer, singer..... Joni's amazing!!
Always feel so speechless where Joni is concerned! ❤️❤️❤️ Awesomely brilliant!!!
this is wonderful!!! thanks Joni,Rosie, and Rosie's brothers! and a big thank you to the band,,,you really did Joni and all her fans proud.Brilliant, all!🤗🤗🤗
My reason for music changing my life is right here... she is by far the best song writer. ❣️☮️🤙
Joni is always a great interview. I see Joni, I click.
+trackie1957 you can see joni strumming imagine strings on her guitar while she sings ,,great sound,,,
As wonderful as this version is, it isn't exactly a cover. She wrote it.
Ross Gill Ha! You’re right about that! I should have said “performance”!
Ross Gill a lot of people think this is Judy Collins’ song. And “Urge for Going” was Tom Rush. And “Woodstock” was CSN...God knows how many Dylan songs are attributed to Peter, Paul and Mary!
This song sounds as brilliant as it was the original recording truly one of the greatest poets and musicians of our time
