Once you tune into how deceptively complex her music is, most pop, rock, country & hip-hop sounds like dogs barking.
That Pat Metheney & Jaco Pastorious were her back-up players says it all. Two of the top musicians of their time.

@@ph0g275 Elton interviewing Joni, this is wonderful! Played "Blue" today while working on jewelry and reminded again how great it is, also "Court and Spark", "Hissing", "Hejira". All those albums were the soundtrack of my life as a young woman in New York. Now I'm Joni's age and she's still my soundtrack. I don't believe the young girls now have anything like her.
It's great to see Joni looking so well and sounding so at peace. Thank you, Elton! And Dodger Stadium was incredible. When I heard "Love Lies Bleeding" start up I just screamed!

I paid tribute to Joni in 1982 by recording a song she wrote called "You Turn Me On (I'm A Radio)," which was a huge hit for me on the Billboard country charts. @@lfitzgerald0624 Mate, it's a modern way of expressing a certain thing. Most of what people call a reinvention is a person exploring a new idea and there is an aesthetic to go with it. Usually there is a spiritual element involved - not in a god-sense but in a 'I'm trying this thing, look etc. out for a while to see what it's like'. There is nothing wrong with it.

People in their right minds who have their egos in check don’t always take flowery compliments so easily, because they know that they’re human, too, and not always deserving of complete and undying hero worship. Joni Mitchell knows she’s a human being with flaws, but she’s also a truly brilliant lady, musically, artistically, and creatively. Her song lyrics are like wise, beautiful poetry. She’s one of my heroines. And she would probably want to laugh at that, too, but she totally deserves the appreciation, admiration, and accolades, doesn’t she? ❤💎💗

Joni Mitchell is the G.O.A.T. That's all. She's taken the art form of lyric writing and chords to new levels of emotional language. She makes you 'think' as she questions life itself. We need the reminder right? The world has become embroiled in blotting out these deeper questions and lives only for perceived immediate pleasure. Joni dug deep and continues to. She sure was a humbling discovery to my own music. At first she left me feeling hopeless, like what's the point even trying? Then I figured we all have our stories and perspectives so we are all valuable musical co creators. My entry into Joni's world was her album The Hissing Of Summer Lawns- the lyrics floored me, made my head spin. Brilliant. "She had a safety pin holding her sweater together." "She had a red sash..." This is how Joni Mitchell's visual world turned each song into a picture for us, it was another dimension in music. She sees that way, and she writes music that way. We enter her songs because we can see them.

I think he's been to and through some dark valleys and that's why I think, despite his success and fame, he seems so down-to-earth and real. Joni's thoughtful conversation is just delightful.

Me too. I will never get tired of Blue, and I think it is one of the greatest albums of all time, but there is something almost indefinably special about Hejira. The title track, in particular, hypnotizes me, it takes me away from wherever I am to a quiet, quite mystical place, and the lyrics of that song as so deeply embedded within me that they just randomly appear in my head from time to time without warning. It's a work of art within a work of genius.

I still remember the first night I had that album in 1973 and played one side, then the other, and repeated that for hours and hours until the morning light-it transported me. ‘Blonde in the Bleachers’ moving into ‘Woman of Heart and Mind’ is one of the most incredible album moments I can ever recall. But Yes, Rich, for some reason, I have heard several times people refer to “Blue”, then “Court and Spark”-& I don’t get why they leave out “For The Roses”. Sorry to go on & on-but when I saw your comment, I couldn’t be still……….thank you, Rich. P.S.-Joni might be the greatest artist of our time-poetry, music, painting-she stands alone.

She smiled: & that moment stays in my mind as clear as yesterday. Her music has shaped my life as it has so many others, as she narrated so many painful & joyous experiences of this life & love.

"When we had the Joni Jams"! This is a brilliant combination with a remarkable synergy between them! And Elton is absolutely correct when he says "Both Sides Now" at her appearance at Newport is spot on. Her voice, the slowed tempo, and the passage of time lent such a gravitas to the song, and it was as if someone was looking back on their life with a world weariness and a different perspective not only of the lyrics but of their life.
