I to am higher proof guy. My wife just started to get into whiskey. Everytime we shop we grab two bottles a high and lower proof. A new hobby we enjoy together!
I think you should go try the proofier options...Old Ezra 7 (117 proof, 7 year, $40) and Distiller's Collection (107 proof, 5 year, $30) offerings are delicious, IMO. Overall, they're the lower end of the Lux Row line, but not too shabby.
I'm glad I watched this. I've yet to try the 99, but at some point I will, since the 90 is no longer on the shelf here in northeast Ohio. But your review, and a couple of others, have stated that the 99 is not as good as the 90.
YES!!! I’m pleased to see that Rex and Daniel enjoy/like Ezra Brooks! Fun Fact, this was THE VERY FIRST WHISKEY I ever had. Back in the good old days of a year where there was no pandemic (2014…way back), and my whiskey virginity was lost on a beach trip at Holden Beach, North Carolina. My roommate at the beach house handed me the bottle and asked if I’d like a sip. I took the bottle and knocked back a sip, and for the first time in my life…the burning sensation of alcohol went down my throat and into my chest. At that moment, a new journey had begun. My journey of Wiskeydom.
I'm liking the Ezra Brooks 90 proof a lot and was surprised when I did an A/B test with Fighting Cock 103 and was surprised how the Kickin' Chicken didn't taste significantly stronger than the Ezra 90.
This might be a dumb question but are there any distillers that have multiple varieties of corn in their bill. I’m talking about all the different varieties of corn like yellow, blue, purple, and whatever else that might feature, I don’t know, I’m from Florida.
Who’s gonna send them Old Ezra 7 now? Someone please do it. I know they’re not accepting donations right now but they have to finish the lineup so please find a way!
100 proof is great for 2 things. Pouring over ice, as you get more brown sugar and vanilla notes, and Old Fashioned, because it holds up to the ice stir and pour over ice, but still keeps some body of the whiskey left.
That price point is why EB is my "house" burboun. "Steal your livers heart?!?!" Aren't those 2 separate organs, or is Rex just working on his drawl to go with that cowboy hat?
Man I am glad I watched this before buying a bottle because I don't care for overly dry w/heavy tannin. (But I LOVE Laphroaig/Ardbeg and Cask Strength are two of my favorite words).
Ohh I hope tomorrow is their Rye. I love the Ezra Rye at 43% for old fashioned or neat. Also is only about $13 out this way as well. Old Forester rye is one of my all time favorite Ryes, but it's become very hard to find out here
So I tried Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10 side by side the other day. Has anyone ever gotten a Rice porridge note in Ardbeg? It was sooo distinct for me. It's a common dish in nordic countries to have around christmas. You usually sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top of it and I got the cinnamon note too. Maybe it was due to the A-B comparison but I was not expecting that from Ardbeg 10? Does anyone else find a rice porridge note in their Ardbeg 10? 🤣
7:48 "that Driftwood note".... there is a winery not far from ya'll in Driftwood Texas called Driftwood Estate Winery! Check them out and tell'em Erik Wait sent ya!
Daniel, you should really check out Yellowstone. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) has an affinity for good bourbon...a few different kinds. It's fun to spot the bottles and recognize what he's drinking.
First time I had the 90 proof Ezra I was 22 and brought it to a buddies house for some whiskey and cokes (he doesn't like whiskey neat) had about half the bottle left and drank the rest neat and it wasn't bad I much prefer this over the jack daniels all my buddies would get at roughly half the price
Anyone notice Rex said honey before he even got glass to nose? It's a bourbon. Of course he's gonna say honey! He's mailing these bourbon reviews in now.
just bought a handle or the 99 and unfortunately that wet musty very woody note then the astringency right up front is out of balance overly dominant. "to long in a barrel" nails it. Likely average barrels. not great. This one might need to be demoted to old fashions.
Combine the glasses, please. Put them together, Please. Mix Them! COME ON! COMBINE THE GLASSES TOGETHER TO SEE IF THE MEDIAN IS BETTER, DAMNIT!! (sigh) so disappointing. hehe

"Gotta big thick base". That's what she said.....Also " we're gonna shove it in there, with taste and decorum". Rex stop! You're killin me! 🤣
Are U implying that, maybe. Somebody has " morning wood" --?? ( in the 🔥 fireplace, of course 😅)
Rex, Scotch Test dummies' Bart called this " open your mouth and someone is pointing a wood-- chipper @ you"---
99 has quickly become my favorite! The price is awesome. Love it! Reminds me personally of 1792. Thanks for the review

I have a bottle of the Distiller’s Collection, it’s very good.
Old Ezra is fucking $70 a bottle now in Ohio (used to be my go to $30 bottle, before the re-branding).
Solid roll into the TV chat. Bourbon, that is what brings the people in - but the chat of randomness is what keeps us all here.
Driftwood. I like that.
HONEY, I’M STARTING A COUNTRY ROCK BAND!

The 99 is a daily for me! love it!
Same here!

Good Morning MB's, Happy Tuesday :)
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃

Daniel watched New Girl!! that’s awesome haha great show
Love how Daniel yawns when Rex starts going into his talking point
This is how I feel about Even Williams normal proof vs the Even Williams 100 proof. The 43% is far more balanced imo.
100 proof is great for 2 things. Pouring over ice, as you get more brown sugar and vanilla notes, and Old Fashioned, because it holds up to the ice stir and pour over ice, but still keeps some body of the whiskey left.
@@paladonis yeah the Evan is an “all around “bourbon.
Good Stuff. You guys have helped me out with my job so very much. Thanks. When are the wife's going to do another show? It's been awhile.

What kind of water is used to proof down whiskey? It is just tap water? Spring water? Filtered & purified?
Do y'all have a review of Old Ezra 7 year?...

Omg! Has the patron Saint screen always shown the whisky that was donated??? How did I miss this? My mind is blown 🤯😂
How do you know what dry driftwood taste like? 🤔
Daniel, you should really check out Yellowstone. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) has an affinity for good bourbon...a few different kinds. It's fun to spot the bottles and recognize what he's drinking.
We now need to name the Crowded Barrel releases for fixing them Irresponsibly..."Please drink Irresponsibly...please"
EB90 is my go to. Price and taste are top notch to me.
Reminds me of Evan WIlliams BIB at $17 in my area. For the price it is great for cocktails or an evening that I have more than 2 glasses.
Thanks for the review 🥃
How is Bull run ?keep seeing it but won’t pull the trigger…
Apparently... I need this. I have a feeling it's dtr8 up in the (almost) midrange of Buffalo T or Heaven H.
there's a grass or hay note but it makes good old fashions
Good Morning Gentlemen.
is the 99 the same whiskey at a higher proof? the 90 says "sour mash"
Also there’s an Old Ezra too
Does Ok Go know about that choreography tidbit 😂🤣😭🤓🧐 that band makes some damn good videos 🤩😃
12 American Dollars compare to 75 Australian Dollars where I live. I know there's a currency difference but our taxes suck lol!!!
Driftwood Rex, driftwood. 99 is my go to Manhattan if I'm not chosing a Rye.
Best outro evar!
My bet is that is the “sleeper “
Such good whisky
Is the 90 proof discontinued?
(7 months later) - Yes, it is discontinued.
It's all about the base!!
FYI there is a new girl rewatch podcast with Zoey Winston and Cece called welcome to our show. I'm sure schmitt will be on it soon.
Re-Watching New Girl for SCHMIDT??? MY MAN
"Yellowstone is too violent' - Daniel has to watch Reacher for a real body count, lol!
With great whiskey come great irresponsibility!
Driftwood is taken as a band name
Now do the rye. And Ezra 7
I got algae and water out of a limestone quarry.
shit is fowl
Anyone notice Rex said honey before he even got glass to nose? It's a bourbon. Of course he's gonna say honey! He's mailing these bourbon reviews in now.
Ooooo, look at me. *casually name drops Zoey Deschanel*
I know people too, like Joey Bidenschanel.
Best toothpaste is whiskey 😸
Rex the whisky Jesus!
Full Hundie
"For Schmidt"
Yeah...
Sure Daniel.
If they ever make a third channel, it should just be bloopers of the videos they release. Oh the potential hilarity…
White label beam is just liquid peanut butter
I feel like Whiskey Tribe's middle name is Irresponsible.
What is the point of drinking whiskey otherwise?
Wasn't a fan of the 99. The back end tasted like a damp basement... Ezra Distiller Select and 7 are amazing.
I don't know how people like it its disgusting only bottle I've ever poured down the drain
just bought a handle or the 99 and unfortunately that wet musty very woody note then the astringency right up front is out of balance overly dominant. "to long in a barrel" nails it. Likely average barrels. not great. This one might need to be demoted to old fashions.
99 gets more attention than 100, its a simple money thing, COME ON REX! Thought you were a marketing genius.
I drank this exclusively for 2 years. No regrets:/
No it was regular Ezra
Welcome to irresponsible Tuesday. $12! The truth is out there.
At 99 proof, they can probably squeeze out an extra thousand cases or something. Marketing + Greed = Mo' Money! Mo' Mone!, Mo' Money!
N'Sync
Not a fan of the 99
It’s expensive in my area and tastes like a sweeter evan williams bib
I knew these guys were beta but holy hell. Didn't think they were that beta. "I'm never going to watch it"; "because it's so violent and so dark".
Driftwood is a good name for a country band. Death Metal or Hip Hop not so much.
Who are these 2? Hipster Dude Lebowski and little white bald Flavor Flav?
Dudes making more coin than you ya flog
Because coin is the key to a happy life 👌🏼✌🏼🇺🇸
Where was fancy dan?!?!? No sound effects when Daniel hits the bottle topper... do you even edit? Lol jk
Combine the glasses, please. Put them together, Please. Mix Them! COME ON! COMBINE THE GLASSES TOGETHER TO SEE IF THE MEDIAN IS BETTER, DAMNIT!! (sigh) so disappointing. hehe
I like my whiskey like I like my woman... Gotta have a thick base.
New girl over Yellowstone? 🤪
Also you just ruined a bottom shelf
For me
SECOND
Lol
"There's no DJ in a country cover band."
Not with that attitude.
its horrible
Walk this way- Aerosmith and Run DMC, not AC/DC
