I love Rex's idea about QR codes, and I wish they would be used for more things, but we also have to remember that link rot exists. If you print something on a label, that info will follow the bottle forever unless the label gets damaged. That QR code is only valid as long as someone is paying to host the page it links to. It's very appealing to think that tech will solve all our problems, but often it just replaces old problems with new ones.
Watcher from Japan here! I tried to do a search in Japanese on this bottle and got ZERO hits...I'd be incredibly surprised if this was a Japanese whiskey, or even had anything to do with Japan at all other than the name/label
I'm actually shocked that U.S. law doesn't require country of origin and manufacturer on the label. They require this for tomatoes, for heaven's sake...but for an alcoholic, distilled spirit that could potentially kill or injure you if made wrong? Nah, no need...
Oak Cross was the only Compass Box I have had funds and availability to try. It was $115 to start in a Total Wine. They slashed it to $70. Almost bought it then. Then, the last 2 bottles got slashed to $35 (I wish I had pics to show to prove it) and I bought them both. Gifted a good friend one of them and had the other myself. This was several years ago so that bottle is a long time "Raining Men"...or Men'ed? I dunno. Haha. Long time gone. Was such a wonderful thing too. I was Donny. I have always been a nerd and Intellect my whole like lol!
I loved the TMNT talk Donny has always been my favorite. I put in a real effort to convince my wife we should name our son Donatello but she wasn't having it 😂
The QR exists. I had this on a Classic Laddie from Bruichladich that I bought recently. Obviously they don't give you EVERYTHING on their website, but a whole lot more than what I expected when I checked it out. And there is a place where you can enter the batch code from your specific bottle and get it broken down. Credit where credit is due. I didn't dwelwe there too much, but absolutely loved the idea.
I picked up a bottle of Monsho a while back and we really enjoyed it. Not something I'd go for every day but definitely worth having around. I'm with you guys that it would be really nice to have some idea where it was produced and what the composition is like Compass Box does though.
QR code idea is genius. You guys should totally pioneer that from your distillery! I always wished I was Michaelangelo too, but if I'm honest, I was really Raph.
It’s nice knowing that Monsho Peated pure is decent. Been wanting to try it or the regular pure malt for awhile now. Also when Rex mentions bacon on marshmallow cereal……I think he’s on to something. I gotta try it. P.S.- might incorporate it into an episode for anything
You guys make this really old " before the turtles" guy smile. I bought this juice before the review. Ok, I get it. So much to learn, so many choices. It's the getting of really good stuff , under 200, that gets me going. Thanks Mwn
Nikka does have a pure malt, their Taketsuru, which I understand is a blend from their Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries. It's absolutely amazing if you can find it.
The QR code thing is a great idea. It should lead to a standardized format spreadsheet type thing. You should start doing it. Eventually if it gets adopted it would de sus to not have it.
Just thinking about when you guys are accepting whiskeys again. so you don't get flooded with the same stuff. is it possible for you guys to set up a whiskey registry like how they do for weddings
It is strange that whiskey that is not distributed in Japan and has no information in Japanese is often introduced as "Japanese whiskey". I would like foreign whiskey lovers to know is that unlike Scotch and Bourbon, there is no law in Japan that defines "Japanese whiskey." Therefore, there is a "Japanese whiskey" that is different from the whiskey distilled and aged in Japan, which you think of as "Japanese whiskey". I couldn't confirm the information about this whiskey, so I didn't know the details of this “Monsho “.
The special releases from The Balvenie Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 year and The Week of Peat 14 year both have a QR code that goes into history’s of the distillery and the reasons for the release. I’m sure the Day of Dark Barley 26 year has one too but that one is harder to come across lol
I always thought I was either the cool guy Michael angelo, or the leader leonardo. I have been battling with this ever since. Still cant make up my mind.
Funny enough I recently had to give a brief discussion about whiskey and taxes... I had to improvise to keep peoples attention we'll say. Plus my favorite Ninja Turtle was Michelangelo too, outgoing, fun, cool... all the things I am not. -_-
If I was walking through Total Wine and I could just scan a QR code to get information about a bottle that I'm looking at, that would be amazing... Do it guys!!! :)
There was a game called Tokimeki-Memorial which is a love romance game for man kind. If you make this game too simple it becomes "Amida-kuji" which you draw five lines in vertical. You draw some lines horizontal. You have to pick start point on vertical line. If you trace the line you get one answer. Amida is a Kind of saint in Buddhism so be careful. This Amida-Kuji is a kind of gamble. That means you can make a cheat system behind. This gimmick is used on controlling pairing of marriage. Of course you can be evil and be punished. You can choose a way to decline the choice but if you choose one, you are not assured the one you choose also choose you since he/she also have a right to decline. Because of this control law of community system, the love pairing is based on equation of equilibrium. Though there are some primary lag system feedback since this is a real system. When I have asked about the thought and way of choosing my wife on 2013, I got into this hypothesis. Because there have to be another side of person to make such a event as love related. Though I could derive this kind things from this simple hypothesis and still not broken.
As a general rule of thumb, Japanese craftsmen take a lot of pride in their products. Often, products will even be labeled indicating the name of the person who made the item and where. I HIGHLY doubt this whiskey was made in Japan.
I absolutely love Daniel’s whisky history rants! Keep ‘em coming.🥃👍🏽

That is a good point. However, I just went and looked and many of my whiskey bottles already have URLs on them. So, I think that ship has sailed...

The QR code idea is brilliant!!!
I loved the TMNT talk Donny has always been my favorite. I put in a real effort to convince my wife we should name our son Donatello but she wasn't having it 😂
Gods work...Gods work.
Probably didn't want him to grow up to be an engineer
The history of whisky (and wine) is about 3 things: taxes, war and temperance/prohibition. Oh, and Ancient Alien Astronauts.
DO TELL about the Ancient Alien Astronauts 🤓🥃
😢 why you give credit for all my donations to Nathan? I wrote my name on the bottles. Highland Park Cask Strength, and now Monsho. 😭 9:54

I think that is mostly a Bruichladdich thing. They push the farm to bottle concept hard. I think they started it with Octomore 10ish years ago?

As always thank you both for the video 🥃
I love the idea Rex had
Compass Box does a great job with their spec sheets for blends.
Wow. I was looking at that blue bottle and thinking holy shit that's familiar. Oak Cross! I haven't had it in years. That was so good.
QR code idea is genius. You guys should totally pioneer that from your distillery!
I always wished I was Michaelangelo too, but if I'm honest, I was really Raph.
Ardnamurchan does the QR code thing. I followed it and realized it was much more detail than I needed 🤣
Daniel, do side episodes JUST with whiskey history. I guaran-damn-tee you I WILL watch every minute.
Rex, love ya man but shoooosh!
What's Growin on all you MB'S out there today!!!?
It’s nice knowing that Monsho Peated pure is decent. Been wanting to try it or the regular pure malt for awhile now. Also when Rex mentions bacon on marshmallow cereal……I think he’s on to something. I gotta try it.
P.S.- might incorporate it into an episode for anything
Gotta say, when Rex asked what turtle Daniel is, I, outloud, said obviously Donatello.
Love the story about the dichotomy of wishes though.
Man, Nathan Pilgrim produces
Very informative, great review AND you squeezed in some Compass Box……nice
GOOD MORNING YOU MB'S.... 🥃
TGIF13
Good morning Gentlemen.
Crowded Barrel Candied Bacon Cereal? Do I smell a new magic spoon flavor?
Compass Box releases all the details for all of their releases. It would be great to be able to access that for all Spirits.
Thumbed up the video 100% for the history lesson
You guys make this really old " before the turtles" guy smile. I bought this juice before the review. Ok, I get it. So much to learn, so many choices. It's the getting of really good stuff , under 200, that gets me going. Thanks Mwn
Daniel as Donatello is perfect casting
!!!!!!!!!!!! Bacon- Marshmallow Cereal !!!!!!!!! @MAGIC SPOON , get on it !! ----------please...
This show is great
Nikka does have a pure malt, their Taketsuru, which I understand is a blend from their Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries. It's absolutely amazing if you can find it.
Inside information tells me Orkney Islands
The QR code thing is a great idea. It should lead to a standardized format spreadsheet type thing. You should start doing it. Eventually if it gets adopted it would de sus to not have it.
Odd combination - marshmallow, bacon over sweet kids cereal. Would that be Captain Piglet???
Inconceivable!!!
You could combine the QR code with blockchain to verify barrell age and authenticity
"Bacon and marshmallow cereal. Part of this complest breakfast!"
Just thinking about when you guys are accepting whiskeys again. so you don't get flooded with the same stuff. is it possible for you guys to set up a whiskey registry like how they do for weddings
Daniel breaking into "Tradition" from Fiddler On The Roof...beard is similar to Topol's

Before he said it I knew Velma was going to say Donatello
How did you guys have morning cartoons.. in my area they were only on on Saturdays or after school.
Waco was evidently on the cutting edge.
Daniel is Donatello, Rex is Michaelangelo, or maybe Raphael at some points.
Rex is Raphael. Brianna is obviously Mickey
@@memorama66 Yes! Now... Who is Leo? Dan?
Lost me at the turtles. Have no idea what you are talking about. Must have came after my cartoon time.
Still a fun episode!
😃🥃
Who's Laura Mibsom?
I always thought I was either the cool guy Michael angelo, or the leader leonardo. I have been battling with this ever since. Still cant make up my mind.
Funny enough I recently had to give a brief discussion about whiskey and taxes... I had to improvise to keep peoples attention we'll say. Plus my favorite Ninja Turtle was Michelangelo too, outgoing, fun, cool... all the things I am not. -_-
Welcome to the Whisk(e)y Vault, Daniel, Rex, Bottle 😂
Wow! You guys went 15 min. Monday you'll make up for it and do a 5 min.review.🤣
Please don't. I have a whiskry in the inventory. Should be up next week.
If I was walking through Total Wine and I could just scan a QR code to get information about a bottle that I'm looking at, that would be amazing... Do it guys!!! :)

Two Donatellos, no waiting.
Rex needs some Rice Crispy Treats with bacon bits
I found it on cask cartel premium spirits and they wanted $150 a bottle. If they are going to get sketchy with their label, that’s a bit much.
maybe it just means that it is from one type of malt whether it be a blended whiskey or not. Like it is all made from barley, not rye or corn added.
Bacon and Marshmellow Cereal. Would hit.
Rex, the heal of your hand is blue.
QR is going to happen🧐 Oh yes!
Daniel is totally Don but Rex I think is more of a mix of Leo and Michelangelo. Good leadership qualities but also a bit of a party dude.
Kilchoman had NFC tags. They lead to a dead website last I checked :P
I don't think Rex is a Donatello. He's more a mix of Michelangelo and Leonardo.
that is why it was ok to watch it, because ya'll got up early.
As a general rule of thumb, Japanese craftsmen take a lot of pride in their products. Often, products will even be labeled indicating the name of the person who made the item and where. I HIGHLY doubt this whiskey was made in Japan.
Whiskey is awesome. Taxation is theft.
I guess that goes to show you, while Michelangelo was the cool one, he never grew up to create the world's first crowd sourced distillery.
Daniel has no more Fs to give in this episode.
I find whiskey history more interesting the the TMNT, lol...
Doing history research for my reenactment group. Hate to tell you guys this, taxes is like the majority of all history.
14:47 -- hey, at least you're not Rafael. Could've been worse!
ah, the ninja turtles...that sure brings back memories...
okay but tax stories are pretty cool though.
Christopher Columbus 1st
Rex's hair is getting long enough it might be time to shave it for somebody's cancer wig
Getting close. You must have a 12-inch pony tail.
THIS IS NOT JAPANESE WHISKY
Have a look at Ardnamurchan. They are doing rhe QR code thing
