As a newcomer to the channel you should explain what’s going on. lol it’s every interesting but why spray them? What’s the snare set up look like? Do the pigeons just get bludgeoned to death and then they’re disposed of? I’m not an animal activist or just curious. This is cool.
@@japewaltzer Sorry, it's been explained in the past few trapping videos - trying not to repeat over and over to the regular viewers too much. The spray is a natural insect repellent (contains essential oils). The birds carry flat flies, mites and external parasites. This helps keep them at bay. The pigeon harness is a leather jacket that goes around the pigeon with snares on the back of it that cinch down on the hawk's feet. The pigeons are usually killed immediately, but the first hawk in this video just hit the harness and got caught right away, not killing the pigeon.
Congrats on your new bird. I wouldn't feel right flying smaller red-tails on squirrels either. I want a large female with nice sized feed. I know people who hunt fox squirrels with Harris's hawks, which makes me cringe.
Nice, I’ve made contact with my sponsor he’s only one county over he’s telling me be patient it’s not quite time yet to catch my first bird, we,re in Mississippi terribly dry and hot not seeing much yet although a pair of red shouldered showed up I’ve been watching them hunt here around the place. Ready to get started. So you,ll be doing video of training this bird? She’s a chunk, I,d like to follow along. Thanks for video s they help boost my confidence.
@@Gregory-en5kq Good luck this season! I probably won't do more training videos this season since I have a few training videos from my last bird. Keep me updated on your trapping season!
@@hoodbillyjohn9589 It is a natural fly repellent for horses. I use it on the birds to help keep the flat flies, external parasites and mites at bay. Sevin dust has been used on the birds for years but this natural spray seems to work well also, and I've not had any issues with the insects after I've sprayed my birds with it that I keep.
@@FinsandTalons I kinda thought it was something along those lines , thank you for clarifying. Awesome u even spray the ones u set free back into the wild and not just the ones you keep , you sir are natures keeper.. I find this very cool how u catch these birds , seems just as easy as fishing for ya.
@@hoodbillyjohn9589 Thank you sir! I'm not alone though, ALL falconers are always looking out for our wild birds. Just like gun and archery hunters are into conservation for the animals they hunt. Thank you for the kind words.
Congrats on your new squirrel snatcher! She's beautiful and has so much attitude. She's going to be great
No shortage of attitude! But she's already manning down nicely and hasn't tried to bite or foot me. Thank you!
Congratulations on the new catch! Can’t wait to see the progress!
Thanks! Should be great with the leaves dropping now too.
Love that video and hope you good luck catching squirrels from scarlett
Thank you Scarlett!!!
What a beautiful bird, and cool channel!
@@jantzencarter8674 Thank you! She really is!
Nice bird, congratulations Would like to see more videos
@@johnmullins9379 Thanks John. I'd love to put more out than 1 a week but it's tough with a full-time job.
Congratulations.
Thank you!
Congrats on the new bird! She’s a beaut! You should have sprayed Jeb down before releasing him 😂
Thanks! There's no helping Jeb 🤷🏻♂️
Good looking bird good luck with her..
@@kenbadgett8383 Thanks Ken!
Oh boy - methinks the poor old pigeon was the one who drew the short straw in this deal!!

What size of hood do you use? It seems to fit every bird you trap regardless of the weight. Thank you!
This is a 64, but it's a little snug for this bird. I have a 66 on its way.
If I may ask , that spray you used on the hawk , what is that for specifically ?

Thank you! It's so rewarding!
@FinsandTalons what would you recommend? soon to be first timer to catch red tail hawk?
So excited to watch more of the training while you discover her name.
Feet so nice she could start an OnlyTalons
YESSSSS 😂
They will come a long way for a pigeon. I know from experience.
Yeah I wish those racers could avoid them more.
@ they do a decent job once they’re older. It’s the falcons and Cooper’s hawks usually but the redtails come and look.
@@DanzaLoft Do you see any Merlins in your area?
@ on the roof of my building at work in the city. I have a great video of them.
@@DanzaLoft Awesome. I haven't seen any here until this year I've seen 5. I heard they are making a comeback.
So pigeons are good for something other than delivering secret messages?
