  • Today we upgrade the front suspension on my MGBGT Autocrosser with a Moss Fast Road coil over conversion.
    We start by looking at the kit itself and what you get with it, then remove the entire front suspension out of my car including the cross member. As we’re disassembling the suspension off of the cross member, we show some of the many weight saving modifications that have been made over the years on these parts. Then we show the revisions needed to the cross member to install the kit explaining how they suggest to do it, as well as the way I ended up doing it that I felt was easier for me to do.
    We then resume with a fully cleaned and repainted cross member, where we start the actual installation of the parts included in the kit. Along the way we look a little closer at even more of the weight saving mods that were previously done in search of faster lap times. Once all the parts from the kit are installed, we put the whole lot back under the car. I also explain why I usually never assemble a front suspension outside the car, and why I prefer to install the cross member without the suspension, only installing the suspension after it is bolted in. It is much easier, not to mention safer to use the weight of the car to your advantage rather than trying to use ratchet straps and the like to try to compress the springs on reassembly.

    Nice videos. As a kid in the late 60s, early 70s, my brother and I had MGs A&B, Bug Eyed Sprites, Spitfires. All fun cars. Nice to see them still being driven. As far as you being "crazy" for you lightning efforts, I prefer to think of it as being "passionate".

    Very interesting, I'm not familiar with the B chassis as I am with the Spridget chassis. And that kit looks good, nice job on the weight reduction.

    Looks like Moss has a pretty good kit ----- Will be interesting to see how see handles after you start making the adjustments for the track ----- Would have been interesting to see what the weight of the front crossmember weighed as you took it out ---- and what it weighed with the new kit installed ready to go back in ------ It's nice having things all cleaned up and painted ---- so much NICER next time you have to get into it ----- I got a message this morning -- Moss and Rimmer Bros. are joining forces ----- Well -- Thank You for the Tips ----- Nice to see you on YOUR car ---- Soon you'll have her back on the track ---- Curious though about what the crossmember weight ----- Have a Good week ----- Rodney

      Yeah, I also saw that Moss and Rimmer are joining....not so sure that is a good thing for us consumers.

      I’m pretty curious about how this Moss-Rimmer Bros thing shakes out too as I am a long time Moss Distributor myself. 🤞

    I'm really interested to hear how much difference this makes.

      The coil over suspension itself will not make much of a difference as it doesn’t actually change the suspension geometry, the only real change is the spring rates. What it does is it gives me a bit more adjustment and makes it a lot easier for me to make the necessary adjustments. As long as I make the right adjustments I can make it better.

    In the spirit of getting rid of weight… ditch those brake covers… helps get the heat out of those rotors too!

    Do you have a quick ratio steering rack? Absolutely need that.

      No, I have a standard rack, but I do have a smaller steering wheel. I have not found the quickness of the steering to be a problem, it is fine in my opinion

    What is the build budget?

      @mgbgtguy  2 місяці тому +1

      It’s not a specific number, it’s more what I can afford to put into it at any given time. So far this year I’m about $2000 over budget. 😂

    I think you are going to end up in XS-A. Yes, you will be uncompetitive in that category. I can’t believe your club won’t run HCS OR HCR. What do they care?

      They said we just don’t get enough older cars to justify doing timing and scoring for another class. My engine is prepped too far for street prepared anyway, but they have in the past been fairly lenient on older cars like mine because they know it really can’t compete on a level playing field anyways.
