Exactly. For some reason, most players feel the need to chime in....just to hope we know that you can also play. It's an odd alpha/jocky thing. Yes, we get it- go to guitar land and solo if you like. I've been playing for 25 years (see what I did there?Lol) There's 2 talking points. Have you written your own album/s and genre that the masses adore? Why not? Chemistry and timing are amazing. The dude oozes rock n roll.

I discovered Kyuss and Josh Homme a few months ago and am knocked out by what a true trailblazer and artist he is. I had no idea how he creates the darker textures he does. He makes his own scales and he's such a baddass, it works. As a guitarist who colors inside the lines, it's really humbling. And it's a new challenge. Thank you for another outstanding and eye-opening interview Matt. Respect.

Josh is a riff machine and a beast of a guitarist. He undersells himself here by saying he's not, but I get the message. It's important to just play to satisfy yourself. I don't know what I'd do without the meditative quality of just playing guitar to relax and have an outlet

I love Josh as a player simply because he does stuff no one else does, does it well, and he is not afraid to swing, which is missing a lot in rock music. His ear is fantastic as well.
FYI: the mode he's working on when he's describing how he takes some notes out of the scale he's in…is basically Lydian Dominant, which is the 4th mode of melodic minor. He's playing the D7#11 - D7 motif, so that's A melodic minor.

I remember watching this (over 10 years ago are you kidding me) and finally unlocking the Homme code for those weird lil' notes... And then promising myself I'll never use them myself as such and try to find my own thing.

After watching this I feel like I'm super hot and sweaty, a little high, and worse at guitar playing.
I completely enjoyed every second of the video.

Yea downstrokes are smoother and up strokes are more plucky and you can really tell in his music which is which, and it gives some of his rhythms a specific sound

Dont ever apologize for getting together with great musicians with sick guitars and amps and doing a little blow/drinks/joints (whatever floats your boat) and having a good time.. as long as you can handle your shit, everyone else can fuck off..

i always like to say josh's style is like ominous flirting, he is the artist that made me want to learn my guitar, he plays so strange its hard not to play after hearing him
