Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 бер 2024
- In the third episode of Guitar Moves, Sweeney gets with his best pal Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme in a sweltering Los Angeles garage to talk polka guitar and make fun of solos. In order to have lights they had to go without air conditioning. They did not go without tequila however.
Original air date: May 29, 2013
Matt Sweeney, host of Guitar Moves, is an NYC based producer (Joanna Sternberg “I’ve Got Me”) and composer (Superwolves, Chavez, Red Dead Redemption 2). I love how they had to create a video just to tell people that they weren't High when they made this video
It was just really hot you guys
Some one was cranked
They're on one
Haha yeah we believe you guys 😂😂
Who cares that they were?
"Here is a blues scale" - Doesn't play a blues scale. Legend
That was HIS blues scale
Clues scale, there ya go
Blues clues?
Yeah i was thinking that too hahahah.
Is he playing dorian with the added blues note?
Alright, better watch this for the 100th time
I almost forgot to watch this again today!
"you can't upstroke yourself into toughness." My guitar education is finally complete.
So glad this video is back.
Break stuff proves this theory wrong.
stevie ray Vaughan had a mean sounding upstroke.
"I took polka lessons for two years" is a strong start, and it only gets better.
What did you learn? ...the polka
"Tapping is like a very silly thing - It's what opportunity does softly." - Josh Homme
Is it just me who don't get that reference/joke? What does he mean? 😅
@@joakimkarlsson4893
Fellow Swede here not understanding either.
Well, when Edward van Halen introduced tapping to the world on Eruption, it didn't sound soft, but cool af.
@@GatherCitizens Oh god I hate/love Josh so much.
@@Anton-wk8lv he speaks like the unserious poet he is. He’ll never admit that’s what it is lol. He describes things in the most obtuse ways that just make sense, moreso than being direct sometimes
This episode has been living in my head rent-free since it went live the first time. I've been waiting years for this... Thank you, Matt & Josh!
100% SAME!
I swear I saw this years ago
@@Jeremya74 you did.
@@Jeremya74 you did.
@@Jeremya74 Of course! This is an HD re-upload
This is my favourite guitar video on UA-cam.
Andy timmons and paul gilberts recent sweetwater video is my favorite. This is top 10 for sure tho
"Im not the greatest guitar player in the world but i just love it". More of us need to remember this.
Once I stopped feeling like I needed to play music to get famous it made me love it even more! Being able to create something you enjoy and getting better at your craft is what drives me now. It's very freeing!
And at the end of the day, he has created some of the greatest rock music
"When you expect anything from music, you expect too much. So, you play to yourself, you play to enjoy it, and you make the most of it for you. Period." Wise words.
All the episodes of Guitar Moves are the shit but this episode is King Shit. Josh Homme is the fuckin man. Great player, humble guy, really funny. Matt’s enthusiasm is infectious. I think he’s digging it the most.
04:55 the moment Josh became my favorite guitar player many years ago
Josh’s tone is so amazing in this.
Telecaster.
Peavey Decade amp
Its all in the hands... and lets face it, his hands are pretty ham fisted.
Them saying in the lil catch-up vid that production thought they were too fucked up in this to air it is crazy bc that's the exact reason it's so fun to watch.
So much sweat, eye contact, and groovin.
While I was expecting & excited for a NEW guitar moves session with Josh, I also quite enjoyed watching this once again for the 1000th time.
One of the best guitar interviews of all time.
Thanks for re-uploading
Nice. Thanks for the reupload! Classic episode.
YAY! IT'S BAAAAACK!!! Turns out they weren't doing mountains of blow. It was just really hot in there.
don't say yay...

Been waiting for this one!! This series is such a gift.
I was all over the high seas looking for this interview yesterday (unsuccessfully). Then, as if by magic... thanks lads!
such a legendary video, finally revived!
A classic. Thanks for re-uploading. We need John Reis for the next season!!
Josh is a riff machine and a beast of a guitarist. He undersells himself here by saying he's not, but I get the message. It's important to just play to satisfy yourself. I don't know what I'd do without the meditative quality of just playing guitar to relax and have an outlet
my absolute fav. episode. love it!
I have waited years for this moment and it does not disappoint.
This video and the one Matt did with St. Vincent changed how i play guitar. Thank you so much.
Been waiting for this one. And it dropped on my lunch break😮💨😎
I get to watch and like it all over again. Thanks Matt and Josh.
So glad these are back i missed em soo
The best Guitar Moves episode, for sure!
This is a better insight into Billy Gibbons' playing than the Billy Gibbons episode.
Billy always has so speak in rhymes and metaphors 😂
It totally is. The BFG one was fun, but my biggest takeaway was that he’s friends with kid rock.
Such a cool dude. He cares but not too much. He just loves his craft. Not much inspires me but his riffs always get your feet moving. His music demands it actually. Love it, man.
Absolutely love this!
I think this might be the best video on the internet.
First off every music interview should have the artist with their instrument like this one and only musicians interview them !This interview hang out is amazing and it is honestly the best rock star riff writing inspiration I have seen ! Thanks guys.
That original video is still one of my all time favorites. 2 guys talking music trying not to die in a hot and humid space. Their chemistry is hilarious!
What an episode!
josh homme is a gift to the world, hope this dude health and happiness in all future endeavors
man i wish this video had been reuploaded a little bit sooner, i was trying to link it to someone in a discussion at some point like a month ago. glad to see it's back tho!
my god I need longer version of this !!
This video brings back so many great memories 😂
"yeah cause this is something I wanted to ask you about... what the hell are you doing?" LOL
Probably my favorite episode
LOVE THIS ❤
Matt I cant believe you have as many subscribers as you have your content is unbelievable thanks so much.
I remember always being questioned or made fun of for playing power chords "the wrong way". I'll never forget watching the original upload of this and being so excited that one of my biggest inspirations in music plays them the same way I do (2:25 in the video).
The one we've waited for.
I can watch Josh play forever 😍
It's finally back!
Always ready, always steady
The best Guitar Moves episode
My favorite episode
Welcome Back!
Josh Homme really did create a very unique sound. The ramones chords all the way across in major key appears in a lot of their music!
Best video on UA-cam, ever.
Can anyone else hear the snare buzzing away in the background everytime they play something!?
More like "Snare Moves" amirite?
You're not wrong my friend
I love how they didn’t turn that snare drum off in the background.
LEGENDARY
Awesome!
finally! ive tried to find this to share it about a cajillion times
Josh is a regen from a different era. He is the coolest guy in "modern" rock.
Joshhh everything about him and his style I likeee
Best video on the internet.
I love Josh as a player simply because he does stuff no one else does, does it well, and he is not afraid to swing, which is missing a lot in rock music. His ear is fantastic as well.
FYI: the mode he's working on when he's describing how he takes some notes out of the scale he's in…is basically Lydian Dominant, which is the 4th mode of melodic minor. He's playing the D7#11 - D7 motif, so that's A melodic minor.
In case you were interested. :)
Blows my mind how he holds his guitar pick
Yessss my favorite one. Josh has chemically achieved here what we call Total Neutrality
that snare buzz tho
Very good!
I got to see both these guys in concert the same night. Zwan and qotsa in 2002
"I'm hearing voices when no ones around" @13:26
Looking for any comment about this and here you are! Do you know what that's from? It's not that song but it's a killer line.

ITS BACK!!!!
It’s back!!!!!!!!
Ever since first hearing this interview, I have wanted to form a band called ‘Joe Schitt the Ragman and the Gravel Gurdeys’ and never explain the origin of the name.
That first lick he was playingaround with sonded like Pali Gap by Jimi. Sweet
I think it’s give the mule what he wants from the first album
I love the fact that he talks about the lick at 7:11 because that was a lick J Mascis talked about in his episode!
Bring guitar moves back.
Josh the father we all need
Man this video makes me wanna get and sweaty with my best mates and jam.
That's sick
The opening song is all ive been able to recreate in 14 years....danm it guitar moves!

This video is my music education.
This is the holy grail of guitar videos
Had my guitar in my hand the whole time... Jammed with Matt and Josh damn! Thanks so much!!
Every time I watch this, Josh makes me want a crappy telecaster! 😂 It's one of my favourite youtube vids for sure! ❤
I wanna know how to be friends with Josh

Bring meth
Would love to see a John Frusciante episode!
Back in all it's sweaty + drug free glory!!!!
I remember watching this whole thing with my mouth open when it came out. So many good tidbits.
Could I get some help IDing the riff around 11:55? Some Black Flag song or something?
And the wonky riff around 3:05? I know it's in one of the earlier albums but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the song ...
I think I found it: 3:05 sounds like first song of Era Vulgaris
3:05 is turnin’ on the screw from era vulgaris
11:55 sounds like I want you so hard by eagles of death metal
@@Azraellives751 the first two chords do sound kinda similar but when he plays the rest on 12:05 it doesn’t seem to be it
I got a contact buzz watching this. This is what hanging out and "picking" is all about.
Lovely, 5 stars
Also I never realized how close Josh’s playing correlates with Billy Gibbon’s. It’s also kinda funny how ZZ Top was an influence to both black flag and Queens, and then black flag was also a huge queens influence
What’s the thermostat set at in that room
12:20 This is a man that has things to say that are both true and important. Listen to the man.
Are there going to be new episodes?
