I remember Troy when he played in a band called Tongues & Tails (many nights in the kibitz room then 7-11 @ 2am). My really good friends were the drummer and bass player respectively, they were kinda like country/rock, good band, but look at you now. A bona fide rock star! You made it man, living the dream. Congrats....
@@joelkeane3160 based on what do you define what makes a great guitarist? Technical skills? You know, he doesn't have to be playing all that technical stuff to be amazing. Less is more is a great example. You don't have to be great at everything, but you have to good at your own thing.
Better Art I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying. But I’m making a point concerning what people consider “amazing”, or “great”....The guy is a very successful musician who has been working at the peak of the rock n roll industry for about 2 decades. Massive props and massive respect to him.
@LowLinK yea they were definitely trying new things in terms of sound recording, always looking for new ways to do things, I admire that! Yea the drums are so present, very much in "your face" as they put it, one of my favourite albums from them for sure! But I was just saying what I saw on an interview, Troy reacting to someone playing Qotsa riffs with a lot of distortion and fuzz - basically he said that they play very loud, its like a natural distortion, and not so much from pedals I guess. But yea they sure use a lot of fuzz and heavy machinery ahah especially live playing these old songs.. Miss old qotsa man, I dont hate the new stuff and I get it, an artist should take risks and try to innovate, I respect Josh for that. But I really love Kyuss and the Old Qotsa.. I think you mean some people say Vox only does clean tones (it does more than that). Listen to the Stooges' Raw Power album, that's all done with a cranked AC30 and it rocks

All I use is organic hand wired pedals and amps from free range electronic workshops.
Wahahahaha
Saw qotsa live, really liked the All red amps on stage
they should do a rundown on Mikey shoes' bass rig!
His signature Jazzmaster is by far my favorite guitar, love the oxblood and black color scheme.
It plays like a dream, too.
I love Troy! Such a cool dude and an amazing guitarist!

He’s not an amazing guitarist. He does cool stuff in a good band. Good on him, but he’s not a great guitar player by any means.

Saw only "Rig Rundown - Queens of the Stone Age" and thought my dream of Josh's rig had come true, Troy is still an amazing player though
Homme is very secretive about the pedals & gear he uses to get his sound. I'd be very surprised to see him do an interview about it.
Ray Koren apparently they don’t use much gain either, which is unlike what a lot of people may think.
Ray Koren lol
@LowLinK Troy said it himself in a interview, it was not that distorted, just very loud, even in those heavier albuns

A Rig Rundown with Brian Molko of Placebo...please do it

Cool that he's a convertee to the Green Rhino. Hands down best OD pedal
+Mac I'm still using my Maxon OD808 live.
I like this guy, he seems to have a sensible outlook on pedals and equipment in terms of not being biased toward new or old.
A Rig Rundown of RATM's Tom Morello and/or Tim Commerford would be freaking awesome!
Think u might be right about that.
Jonas Wohlfeld RATM would have to tour in order for PG to do a rig rundown for them.
they did one for his Prophets of Rage rig a few months ago
They did Tom and Timmy C both individually but a Rage rundown would be cool since they recently got back together
JCM800, original whammy 👍🏻
Troy Van Leeuwen is the coolest guy on the planet.

The fact that all his Fuzzes have the volume MAXED
I love his work in Failure. if you're not a 90's kid, check them out. very underground

he never recorded with them, only touring in 1996 and 1997 (and again in 2015 for old time’s sake).

Lucifer - i don't drink, so of course
Yes! Tame Impala sound Amazon live. I'd love to also see if any of the synths used in Tame are going through effects.
I love when UA-cam works
The "eeu" part in Van Leeuwen is pronounced as the Letter "A"
shaun toggelma just because he can't pronounce it doesn't mean it isn't actually pronounced like that
'Candy Ox-blood' has to be the coolest guitar colour EVER!!
I like how they put Seans name huge at the bottom instead of the person they are interviewing.
Some people say vox can't play rock, that is total bullshit. Look at Troy, it sounds freaking badass!!

This is really cool, but we need to find some way to convince Homme to do this. haha
Anyone knows the tunning used in his lap-steel?
Josh also plays one of those same modeled Echopark guitars on some songs live....I wanna say for Tail or Ocean, I can't remember.
