    An Outdoor wood boiler will be worst than milking a cow. They require whole trees to stay warm. A Rocket Mass Heater is much more efficient. 95% or better. All the Heat stays inside vs heating the atmosphere. They do take proper design to work properly. The burn chambers get excess of 1500 F. where only fire bricks work or last. I heated a DIY 900 gallon Aquaponics system in a 20" geodesic dome for 28 months straight. I grew veggies year round. I'm 61 and had a stroke from sleep apnea 2 years ago. Don't wait too long to finish Your plans. Do it asap. Nothing beats fresh clean Food!

    I love your answer to the self sufficiency question! "We grow our own food because it's the food we want to eat." That is going to stick in my brain hopefully forever!

    Hi from Miami Florida. How about letting pigs do the job for you on prepping the land, just block them in for a space at a time. I have lived in Miami for 39years out of the 40. 1 year in Pennsylvania for work. I really, really love your story. Daunting for me to plan such a magnitude of things TEN YEARS😮 AHEAD. Love the fact he is so good at planning etc. amazing. Around 30years old I started to dream about buying 20acres or so. Hopefully In 5 years we’ll be closer to this. My wife and I started dating same year y’all got married😊. She is slowly but surely enjoying the idea of actually being self sufficient. I’ll keep watching your progress for years. No way we (the public) can’t fall in love with your stories. May God bless you and your amazing land.

    That was A LOT of fun!! I am thinking, for your NEW garden area maybe you can start improving the soil with cover crops 🤔 Either way, it was a fantastic video ❤️👍👏

    My son is canoeing the Mississippi from the headwaters to the Gulf. So, they started (perhaps) near you. Lots of flooding they've experienced, beautiful area.

    This was really interesting to listen to you about how your life moved towards your homestead. We've been looking for land for years, but no luck yet with prices the way they are. I grew up northwest of the Twin Cities, and we are now still in our "classroom" in our city lot in southern Minnesota. I have had my garden for 4 years now, but this year has been REALLY strange. Can you do a video on how you control the bugs? I have had SO many crazy different bugs this year!! I can't even google the name or image of the bug, because I don't know what these two bugs are. They are hitting so many things... celery was decemated, beets, lettuce, etc. Those bugs are so disgusting. Sigh. I garden organic and have been working on soil health each year, so I'm surprised I've had so much bug damage this year. I'd love to see what you do!! And how you fertilize in your garden. :)

      @thehomesteadingrd  Місяць тому

      Oh no! Yes, I've noticed more pests as well. I think it's due to the mild winter we had :( I've found my best method to control them is companion planting with calendula, marigolds, nasturtiums, and chamomile. I fertilize with compost :)

    Do you have have an Inreach phone? My husband's good friends lived very similar to you and they have an Inreach phone based on satellites and then also pay for a service of helicopter evacuation emergency rescue for just in case because they live a couple hours from hospitals, etc. or if they got trapped on their land from trees falling on the roadside and there was an emergency and couldn't get out.
