I don’t think that the large channels are interested in sharing their metrics, or they probably would have already. I’m just curious if there are any other homesteading channels sharing these numbers like I am, so I can point others to their videos to support them!

We just got back into creating content and building things up on our homestead and it’s so inspiring to see others on the journey. I actually think you and I both moderated the latest More than Farmers livestream 😀 keep up the good work.
Let me just make a small suggestion for anyone reading the comments. If you want to help a small channel but don’t have extra money to send. Just start at the beginning of their videos and let them play all day while you are working or cleaning house. I just let them run on my smart TV even if I am not home.
This is such a great thing to do! A few friends did this for us when we first started, & I try to pay it forward as much as I can. I have videos playing all day long when I’m not in meetings for work!
I recommend making a yearly "What we learned during Year 2..." or "Looking back at Year 3..." video. It's really helpful to see those. Also, the "Mistakes we made..." or "What I wish we had known before we...." videos. Best wishes! 🙂

I found this to be the most transparent video about UA-cam. Seems like other channels shy away from income made, not sure why. They will only say that they have made enough to quite their job and leave it at that.
Probably because it’s variable and honestly, it’s not something most people want to share. It’s difficult to not sound like you’re gloating past a certain point. Nobody is owed this information, it’s freely given when the creator feels comfortable about it, usually when the numbers are smaller. It’s definitely not a requirement to be this transparent.
I wish more homestead oriented channels shared this type of stuff. It would’ve been so helpful to me when I first started, so I’m hoping it can help someone else!
@@calicocowacres Agreed it is helpful to get an idea of what to expect and what can happen. Yourself and one other homestead channel has done this that i have personally seen. I will certainly keep the tradition going when I make it to that point. All you videos are great! But a video like this for people who are hoping one day to homesteading full time with youtube it really shines a light on the reality and timeframe of things.

Same here! The amount you make definitely doesn’t balance out with how much effort & time you’re putting in until you’re a larger channel, but there’s huge potential. And a lot of larger channels (not homesteading specifically) make most of their income from brand deals. I put anywhere from 6-18 hours into most of our videos between filming and editing, sometimes a lot more depending on the video. We’ll get to the point where it’s paying for our time eventually though, and for now it’s a great creative outlet that I really enjoy. 😊
Thank you for your honestly around this subject! This year we started our small scale homesteading & our UA-cam journey in Finland (just above 500 subscribers😅). Thinking how much we restrict ourselves from growing on YT when we make content only in our own language...thinking if we should be making content in english, althougt that might seem a bit fake. Any ideas on growing a channel when it's not in english?
I find transparency so important and worth watching and supporting because there is so much noise out there! I love your authenticity and it is evident how much you two are creating an intentional life you love. I can tell you don’t create in order to profit specifically, not that you don’t deserve it for the time you put in, but your passion and why comes first. Cheers to knowing yourselves so well! 🎉
In my mind, the best way I can contribute to the online homesteading community, especially other creators, is to share this type of stuff. It can only benefit others & doesn’t hurt me at all to share. I hope it encourages others to feel comfortable talking about this in the future! And you’re so right. I love this kind of content! Its really refreshing and cool that you break it down and provide transparency. A lot of channels seem like they just make a living from the youtube channel which is fine, but its nice to know how you can make it happen for yourself and seeing these earnings being shared is encouraging
Thanks for talking about watching the commercials. It wasn’t until about a year into watching UA-cam that I learned how content creators made money other than sponsorships. If more viewers watched more commercials there’d be less sponsorships on video making videos enjoyable from a subscribers viewpoint
As a small home gardener summer is a time for being outside which means limited UA-cam viewing and not a sign of disinterest. The winter will definitely be a time to get back and check out all these videos. ❤👍🙏🇨🇦

Thank you for all the effort you put into this video. I started a UA-cam channel December 2023 (just a simple backyard vegetable garden, sharing our journey). I had no intention to make money and I'm nowhere near that mark. I'm retired and work part-time, and my wife is still employed full time, so I haven't really put a 100% into the channel yet. It does take a lot of work to make and edit videos. Congratulations on your success thus far, and hope y'all's channel continues to grow. I enjoy watching from Panama City, Florida zone 9a

I really enjoyed this video. Most content creators do not lay it out, and let you know, just what you are making. I appreciate that. So at the end of this year of being monetized, how many videos had you produced? It just seems like so much work to so little money. I guess in the future, you can always hope that people will watch older videos, granted. This information is appreciated tho. You guys work so hard on these awesome videos. I wish you were rewarded more monetarily. I hope, in the future, you will be, because you work very hard.
I believe it was around 125 videos at the 1 year of being monetized mark. My goal is to put out at least one every week. And you’re right, there has to be a lot of passion for making videos if you want to do this long term because you absolutely do not reap many financial rewards in the beginning. Making content that is evergreen and can be watched over and over is so important for long term growth, and as new people subscribe they often go back and watch from the beginning, which continues to pay you for work you’ve already done. Typically most large creators make the most money (at least most consistent, reliable money) from brand deals. As much as I’d love this to be my full time job someday, I really love documenting our life, especially for our friends & family to be able to watch that live 12+ hours away from us now. And I’m a super nostalgic person so I just know someday I’ll love rewatching all of these myself! ❤️

I’m here to encourage you to do it! I feel like the more small creators who are willing to share & help others with this kind of info, the more transparency our little homesteading community will have as our channels grow in the future. It truly can only help others & I believe topics(money) are only taboo if we make them taboo & I don’t think that’s helpful to anyone in the long run, especially if we want to call ourselves a “Community”. Let’s encourage & be honest & help each other! And then maybe more people will feel comfortable to share in the future.

Thank you. I just retired in Jan. 2024. We bought our 5.26 acres in Oct.2022 and moved from our entire city/suburban life in Vancouver to 80kms into the country. I have puttered on our unkept acreage and entertained the thought of a Utube channel. I have many still photos of our progress and have access to go-pro cameras now. Should I enter the family of homestead creators? How many hours a week did you take to learn how to edit videos? Once you learned to edit, how many how a week does editing take? How often should a video be dropped (weekly, bi-weekly)? Your honest/real demeanour is wonder! BTW: our farm’s name is Hidden Acres. Might be a good Chanel name as well 😊.

Thanks for talking about watching the commercials. It wasn’t until about a year into watching UA-cam that I learned how content creators made money other than sponsorships. If more viewers watched more commercials there’d be less sponsorships on video making videos enjoyable from a subscribers viewpoint
As a small home gardener summer is a time for being outside which means limited UA-cam viewing and not a sign of disinterest. The winter will definitely be a time to get back and check out all these videos. ❤👍🙏🇨🇦

Thank you for all the effort you put into this video. I started a UA-cam channel December 2023 (just a simple backyard vegetable garden, sharing our journey). I had no intention to make money and I'm nowhere near that mark. I'm retired and work part-time, and my wife is still employed full time, so I haven't really put a 100% into the channel yet. I really enjoyed this video. Most content creators do not lay it out, and let you know, just what you are making. I appreciate that. So at the end of this year of being monetized, how many videos had you produced? It just seems like so much work to so little money. I guess in the future, you can always hope that people will watch older videos, granted. This information is appreciated tho. You guys work so hard on these awesome videos. I wish you were rewarded more monetarily. I hope, in the future, you will be, because you work very hard.
I believe it was around 125 videos at the 1 year of being monetized mark. My goal is to put out at least one every week. And you’re right, there has to be a lot of passion for making videos if you want to do this long term because you absolutely do not reap many financial rewards in the beginning. Making content that is evergreen and can be watched over and over is so important for long term growth, and as new people subscribe they often go back and watch from the beginning, which continues to pay you for work you’ve already done. Typically most large creators make the most money (at least most consistent, reliable money) from brand deals. As much as I’d love this to be my full time job someday, I really love documenting our life, especially for our friends & family to be able to watch that live 12+ hours away from us now. And I’m a super nostalgic person so I just know someday I’ll love rewatching all of these myself! ❤️

I'm coming up upon 6 months being monetized, though I am much smaller than you guys :-) However, like you I've searched for this kind of information in the homesteading niche and it's impossible to find!!! So I'd like to contribute to that information for others who are interested in starting a homesteading channel. Congrats on getting to where you guys are, I really enjoy your videos.
I’m here to encourage you to do it! I feel like the more small creators who are willing to share & help others with this kind of info, the more transparency our little homesteading community will have as our channels grow in the future. It truly can only help others & I believe topics(money) are only taboo if we make them taboo & I don’t think that’s helpful to anyone in the long run, especially if we want to call ourselves a “Community”. Let’s encourage & be honest & help each other! And then maybe more people will feel comfortable to share in the future.

Thank you. I just retired in Jan. 2024. We bought our 5.26 acres in Oct.2022 and moved from our entire city/suburban life in Vancouver to 80kms into the country. I have puttered on our unkept acreage and entertained the thought of a Utube channel. I have many still photos of our progress and have access to go-pro cameras now. Should I enter the family of homestead creators? How many hours a week did you take to learn how to edit videos? Once you learned to edit, how many how a week does editing take? How often should a video be dropped (weekly, bi-weekly)? Your honest/real demeanour is wonder! BTW: our farm’s name is Hidden Acres. Might be a good Chanel name as well 😊.
