A tip with the cavity lance, put some coloured tape roughly an inch from the end so when you're pulling it out you have an idea of when the end is going to come out and you can prevent covering everything in wax 😂
While I really admire the dedication and hard work displayed in this video I'm a boat captain and in my experience once rust gets a foothold anything you do is nothing more than a delaying action. As Neal Young once pointed out in one of his albums, "Rust Never Sleeps!" Heck in my experience it hardly ever even takes a nap!
I am in the process of welding up my MX5 at the moment. For those who havent had the advantage of totally cutting their car open to see would be worth going into more detail on where to apply the cavity wax. If you want to protect all the cavities you missed alot of the holes. Lift the carpet and you will find a load of bungs along the sill that will get good coverage on the other side of the center brace. There is a double skin under where your feet sit with a bung there to treat the cavity. The upper front and rear frame rails can be accessed under the boot carpet hidden by tape as well as in the engine bay. Also gonna be worth doing over the tops of your rear arches from in the boot. All areas worth treating. Ask me how i know :(
Its probably a little late now but its better to support the bush as you press it out. Im suprised you didnt bend the arms out of shape the way you did it. It probably helped that you were heating them mind.
you should try duplicolor rust fix, goes on clear, and it eats rust and turns it into black primer. You can actually see it work because it's clear. I use it on 50 year old Volkswagen parts. I wirebrush/wirewheel all the loose crap off, give it a coat of rust fix, then continue with primer and paint.
The subframes weren't coming off either and I'm working as fast as possible to get it back off our lift. They might get a wire brush and a lick of paint with a brush later 😁
BOFI Racing can’t hate full send like that I suppose, I get time restrictions too well, this virus is the first change I have had to work on my car in 8 years
Wow that's a long time! Trying to squeeze a couple of hours in a day really takes its toll. Hopefully this will be ready to come out when track days restart 😬 have you got a long list of stuff still to do?
BOFI Racing my rx7 is nearly done just needs a new v mount and wastegates, my NA roadster needs the wiring sorted properly from the 2.5 engine swap, the VVT wiring in and then mapping, also trying to get more sensible wheels on but still looking good
I'd like to treat my cavities/inner sills with the same buzzweld product you have used but my inner sills have been treated with some sort of cavity wax by a previous owner. Is there a way of removing this wax prior to treating with buzzweld? Cheers
You used the existing hole from the rear wheel arch to the sill to blast in rust proofing stuff. That only gets to the inner part of the inner sill. You need to drill a hole nearer the outside of the car to get stuff in between the inner sill and the outside skin of the car. Look at this posting on MazdaMenders www.mazdamenders.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=1324
Been at it with a hammer and dolly set tonight, then had the filler out. It's going to look so good... Hopefully I don't stick it in a wall first time out 😝
Nah, the tunnel doesn't have any issues. I did every part that is usually a problem with about 5 coats total 😂 should be good for a while. Yep, definitely do!

Nice. I been using POR 15. Used it for the first time 4 years ago on rust and 🐻 metal and its working great, 3 coats.

I could not justify doing all this job and not sand blast and powder coat suspension components but good luck with the build!

Was definitely a mistake. The arms were OK but all the bushes we have pressed out since have been done supporting the arm properly.

Rear shelf under the panels where rear shocks poke through. That all sits just below the rain rail & can be an issue.
Splash some paint on the control arms. Mise well. Besides that the attention to detail is awesome. Much love from Atlanta!
"mise well"? lmao the expression is "Might as well".
I'm thinking attaching the end of that hose sprayer to a coat hanger would allow better control of it, at least for the larger spaces in the fenders.
You can thread it through pretty well, we've run a camera through once dry and it gets coated well
I couldn’t do it, the bones are off there’s new bushes going in and you didn’t paint or powder coat, I would lose sleep for days

You just brushed the CIO over the top of the old flaky floor pan underseal.

Used all the same stuff on mine W.A.R is good shit 👍🏻
Can't wait to see the results on the road. It's nice to use and looks proper 👌
Nice I just painted the whole bottom with in Brantho Korrux 3 in 1. Let's see what product is best in a couple of years ;)
Por 15 rubber
We'll have to update for sure!
smart idea , definitely wanna keep the cars rust free

I second this. This will prevent the outer skin at the rear of the sill from going.
Yes. There is a few ways in but drilling works
"Show us the holes"
Gonna be a show car not a track slag once you’re done with it 👌🏼

Didnt take the exhaust off to paint under there mate?
As mentioned on messenger we need a post - covid meetup!

What sort of price was all of the rust treatment kit?
Just over £100 for the whole car
We use boat paint at my shop
All good.. couple of TINY things I would have done aswell.. show u soon!
Fighting the war which cannot be won.. 😂
What kind of monster doesn't bolt down their vice??!?!?!
Don't want to restored your wishbone??
Might wire brush them and brush paint them. I'm trying to get this done ASAP and no one gets to see the wishbones usually 😜
@@BOFIRacingTV hahahah yeah I say the same thing for the rust under my mx5, nobody will see that.... 😂😂
Beavis and Butthead.
Good stuff. I love these little cars
