I find MULTIPLE HOLES In My Rust-Free MX-5! Routine Rust Prevention Turns Into A Full Rebuild
Вставка
- Опубліковано 31 лип 2024
- With lockdown still in full swing, Leigh decides it's time to rustproof his Mazda MX-5 Miata. All the suspension is removed in preparation for poly bushing and the wire wheel is brought out to strip off the flaking underseal. It doesn't take long to find holes in what was thought to be a rust-free car. A routine job quickly spirals into a full rebuild, respray and windscreen replacement.

Keep up the good work and put the guard back on the grinder! It's there for a reason.
Great video. I know the feeling with my NA in how jobs grow. “While I’m here I might as well.... “ Or “I’m half way there be a waste not too...”. looking forward to next instalment
Thanks Stu 😊 this was definitely I'm never going to do this again so now or never. Although breaking the windscreen was a real shame
When the 5 hour job takes 2 days
Great vid Love how you keep it real
Thanks ☺️
Should paint it a vibrant pink with metal flakes
Yes!
BOFI Racing Pink with rainbow flake
This is some good content! Keep it up man! Black is the best color!
🏴 Blaaack
Good video! Have all the same problems with my mk2.5! Would love to see this in a vibrant pink!
Thanks! Me too 😍
Really interested by this. Rust issue is the worst problem we can find under our miata.
Amazed just how original this chassis is, where the rust it had was in such weird places. We'll be undersealing next episode which will be really good 😊
Orange and Black, Bofi Racing livery (y)
Maybe when we do our first time attack car that isn't a personal car 😊
Need to get under mine...a bit worried just pretend its not there... Just spun a bearing and lost keys so new locks and engine, ecu and immobiliser....enjoying the channel though... At least I know I am not alone in constant "upgrades"
Yeah paint it bright pink! 😂🔥
Yes! Soon!
Front pulley will come off, just needs some effort. There are many ways I can think of off hand. Heat and cold cycles (Torch and ice) and the bond will give up and then pulley puller to remove. Or just angle grinder and new pulley.
Covid caused me to wire wheel my underside. Found a few holes in the boot floor of my EP3 today. As I cannot weld I used filler and primer and underseal 🤞🏻
Wire wheels are the best! We have a bunch of product from Buzzweld that we will be using next episode such as rust converters etc. Learning to weld is super satisfying though

(Squeezes eyes) _its okay if i dont see it_
How come.you don't have frame rails?
Can’t believe u persevered as long as you did before kicking the windscreen out 🦾
The struggle was real. I have a friend in Special FX who later said lighter fuel would have apparently dissolved all the glue as it was double sided foam type adhesive... next time I get stuck I'll give him a shout 😅
Same colour pink. Keep the famous faded red look lol.
Just fresh paint maybe some sparkles
The surprise when people find out it was actually sprayed pink is great 😂
Orange!!!
I agree with GBM Gaming and go for an in-your-face pearlescent pink with a black (or carbon fibre wrapped) windscreen frame and hard top ¦:¬D
If your main seal is leaking why not go the whole hog and get a used 1.8 and put rods in it?
That would be epic! I would put a 1.8 in it but I have HKS cams and a juicy 4-1 manifold already and I don't have any power goals. I do however have an itch for a 2.0 ITB build in the future...
Montana beast and graphite gray in a hex pattern
Oooft
YES to rods if you’re gonna keep it... never know what you might plan for it in the future.
Paint needs to be something super shiny and maybe design a BOFI livery
It will get new rings, so probably should do rods whilst we're in there 💪
Paint the A-pillar and hardtop matte black and the car rattle-can gold.
Gold chrome? 🥰
@@BOFIRacingTV I was thinking more like some old school pale gold metallic. Like on the Porsche 944
I don't have a hoist or garage to get my rust done. I am terrified of what will need doing and I know the longer I leave it the worse it will get! I know the chassis rails need doing but it has had rust prevention in the past but they obviously just did the underside and not the rails so I don't know how good that will be.
Anyway, I guess that's a future me problem now I have another 6 months on my MOT (thanks COVID).
It can definitely be done on jack stands on a driveway. Having a garage and a lift is nice, but we've done it on our backs before. I wouldn't want to be doing it on the street though for safety reasons. Is your car an NB?
@@BOFIRacingTV Yeah, that's my problem really. I have access to a back alley behind my house, but it is still semi public with kids back there so I wouldn't want to do much beyond brakes, exhaust etc. Anything that can be done in a day really.
Yeah an NB, so it has the classic chassis rails problems.
How would you go about fixing chassis rails issues? I assume a professional is the best bet. The MX5 Restorer down in eastborne seems to have a good service but I only have one car so getting back is a pain as it is pretty out of the way from London.
@@BOFIRacingTV Just want to say too, I know you have just started this youtube channel but it's really good, and if I ever need any performance parts I will definitely be getting them from your shop and your youtube channel is what made me find you.
Paint it Nardo grey and put black liveries on it 👌
We have a grey & black '5 in the garage already, good suggestion!
Yikes!
Hot candy pink 👌👌👌👌
😍
Jesus.... blunt force trauma! As for paint always burple
💁♂️ The windscreen was a bit of a disappointment but I've been given a few tips if we ever have to do it again. I like the sound of that 🍇
BOFI Racing also want to thank you guys for the advice on the front whee hubs I had problems with the other day! Roadster is back and driving hard again now cheers
Glad we could help!
