  • Don't know which one to buy? Thinking about a trade? Just curious about differences? This is a pretty thorough breakdown of the differences between purchasing an HD Road Glide vs an Indian Challenger. My first video on this subject was all about performance on dynos, this one is about the overall bikes features. Enjoy!

    My 2014 Ultra Limited (with 35,000 miles) paint is in much better condition than my Challenger with 2500 miles. HD is still the king when it comes to the paint. Outside of that, my Indian Challenger is so much more fun to ride when I am feeling a little salty, and the power…. OMG! Although the Indian Challenger is considered a sport/touring bike, I can’t make it past 400 miles a day, whereas I can ride 1000 miles a day on my Ultra’s. Both companies make amazing bikes - am proud to own them both!

    First Indian motorcycle after owning 6 HD's. I agree the HD looks amazing and aftermarket stuff is awesome. But I love my Indian Challenger even though it's not perfect. I have a few issues and im honest about that but the perfomance and especially the suspension is great. My Challenger was the better bike for me at this time. Good review.

    In 2016 I bought a 2010 HD Softail Custom with 2660 miles on it. June 4 2024 I traded it in with 143000 miles on it and purchased a 2023 Indian Challenger Dark Horse with matte black smoke paint. I'm getting used to the much more powerful and bigger bike but no complaints and I haven't tried sport mode yet. I have, however, brought it to a suitable road and hit the 110 mph as I was told with NO problem. Indian has limited the bike to 110 but I had plenty of throttle left. I'm still making friends with Ride Command and Car Play.
    I wish Indian would have chosen something closer to Mazda's red or I'd have bought that one but over all no complaints.

    Awesome video Dark Horse the only downside i see is to Indian's infotainment center is that you only get 1yr free now instead of 2 yrs, with a price tag of 80$ a yr after that if you want navigation after the initial free period! Harley doesn't make you pay for the navigation !!

    • @DarkHorseParatrooper
      @DarkHorseParatrooper  2 роки тому +2

      I'll tell you what though, 80 bucks a year ain't bad considering it let's you track your bike. That alone is worth it. Those Lowjacks people have installed in cars are like 1500 to 2000 dollars, and only last like 5 to 7 years I believe.

      @DevilDog59 Рік тому +1

      I know this is a old post but you do have to pay for navigation upgrades if you do not upgrade the navigation then it is not current. With all the road construction you have to upgrade your navigation and you have to pay for the upgrade to get new navigation flashed to thump drive drive the you install thump drive to bike and flash thr updated navigation to your bike. I have a 2015 street glide special and I have installed 2 navigation flashes to bike.

      @@DarkHorseParatrooper Except the adjustable suspension for heavy loads/passenger on the screen...which is pretty nice. Adding all that stuff to a Challenger, still will not get you the resale value of a Pursuit. Have a 2020 Challenger, but would love the adjustable suspension on the fly. Great vid btw

    • @DarkHorseParatrooper
      @DarkHorseParatrooper  2 роки тому

      Why worry about resale value. Bikes are awesome, if you ain't planning to sell it then value means nothing. On top of that, YOU the consumer do not benefit from resale values, dealers do. To further elaborate how meaningless "value retention" really is, something like 40 or 50 percent of bikes on the road are Harleys. That should mean they are worthless, yet somehow they "retain" value. It's all a rigged system. Vehicles are depreciating liabilities, they have no actual value other than what you can hopefully sell them for at any time, which is always (until covid) at a loss.

    • @paulk9188
      @paulk9188 2 роки тому

      @@DarkHorseParatrooper Well, you’ll always get more money when you sell private party, and a moded out Challenger is not going to sell for as much as a Pursuit, that’s just a fact..based on book value alone..not to mention adjustable suspension that is only available on the Pursuit..why would you think resale value only is beneficial to the dealer? I’ve owned several Indians, I always get more private party sell then I would dealer trade in..

    • @DarkHorseParatrooper
      @DarkHorseParatrooper  2 роки тому +1

      Because 99 percent of people trade vehicles at a massive loss because the book trade values are always significantly less than, as you mentioned, private party sales. And most vehicle transactions are in fact not private party sales, but handled at a dealer. So the typical consumer won't benefit from the actual value of the vehicle. And no, the electronic suspension is NOT only available on the pursuit. In fact, not a single item on the pursuit is unique. The electronic suspension is available for 1k from Indian.

    I have a base 2020 Challenger. I bought it used and went with the best deal I could get. It had 7500 miles on it, I have doubled that in 6 months of owning it. I love it.
    My best friend had a RG Limited. It’s a nice bike, has the 114 and very good performance. He agrees with the Challenger being a better bike right from the factory. If he didn’t owe so much on his, he’d probably be riding a Roadmaster. I’m wondering if the Guardian when it comes out will be a Roadmaster with the 108?
    I always say it’s your money, get what YOU want. But you’re right when you say you get more right from the start from Indian. I’m sorry you had issues with yours, hope that resolves soon!
    I am surprised mine isn’t snake bit being an initial year for a new bike. Some electrical issues that are strange, but clear easily. I am also a fan of the fuel scheduling flash that fixed some bugs.

    In 2020 I was upgrading. I wanted a frame faring bike. I was excited about the challenger. I had always wanted a road glide,but that was before the challenger came out. My local Indian dealer could not produce a challenger I could ride. They were selling every single one, their demo bike was down and parts were not available. I rode a road glide and bought it. HD still builds a nice bike. The improvements were good enough. The road glide still looks way better. I will never try and race a challenger……..but having the fastest touring bike is not really what I want in a touring bike. I have no doubt if I would have rode the Indian I would have bought it. I went to buy a new 2022 Harley Road Glide Limited ( Had 5 Harleys already , including one CVO Limited that I paid way to much for) well due to the surcharge we were a 1000 dollars a part. Well the next day by total coincidence I seen a review on the Indian pursuit on UA-cam . Although I can afford anything I want I still want to maintain a certain dollar amount ( and it a reasonable realistic amount) . But the Indian pursuit appears to be a better motorcycle for the money than the Harley . So I’m definitely going to look at the Indian.

I also think HD jas such a loyal fan base that they do whatever they want. Customers for HD have been asking HD for years why they don't at least put LED turn signals on the bike? To this day HD still hasn't done it yet. They know that people will still buy their bikes regardless of their complaints. My primary bike is the new Sportster S, so if I really want to tear up the tarmac on a short hop, I am not taking the bagger anyway. As a distance tourer the HD does have advantages over the Indian in most ways due to familiarity by mechanics and availability of parts wherever you are. On the other hand the Lean angle traction only has to save you once to make it the better bike. Well I have 6 months to think about it.

      Thing is, the "Indian don't have enough dealers" or mechanics with familiarity don't hold up anymore, there are tons of dealers now, unless your not in the US. I don’t doubt much of what you say. However let’s talk support and service. Many states have 1 Indian dealer period. They are by far few and far between. So when you want to have your bike serviced at a dealer you have to travel a lot. Also parts. If your bike is down or you need a part and that dealer is one of one or two in the state everyone goes to that dealer and they never have parts in stock. I own a 2020 street glide. My wife rides a 2021 Indian scout bobber. It took me a day to get bars put on and the bike serviced. It took 2 months to get the 10 in mini apes and the cables for them.
