About Me
My name is Brandon Herrera. I'm the owner and operator of The AK Guy Inc, a 07 Firearm Manufacturer based out of Fayetteville, NC. I also co-own Stark Media Group, and designed the rifle known as the AK-50.
I've started to dedicate this UA-cam channel above all to have fun, but also as a way to document my entrepreneurial journey for the next few years as I try to grow my companies. Hopefully, people can learn from my example, successes, and failures.
Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and I hope it's just as fun to follow along!

Hey there! Love your channel!
If you stuffed some 762x39 brass with ffffg or fffg it would absolutely fire and probably be relatively powerful depending on how much powder you can stuff in the shells. But it would almost certainly need to have the action cycled manually and would probably only be able to make it through half a mag or so before it got to dirty

Also here's something to know about that black powder revolver, in between the cylinders you have grooves and those grooves can act like a safety device that will allow you to carry all six cylinders without a fear of a negligent discharge. You just load all six cylinders and then you carefully pointing the revolver in a safe direction make one half rotation on the well and drop your hammer down into that groove and that groove will lock the cylinder in place and you can carry all six loaded cylinders safely, and when it comes time to shoot all you have to do is cock the hammer and the will will finish its rotation and line the loaded cylinder up with the hammer and fire. I have been shooting black powder for almost 30 years and I have one of those guns that I had bought back in 1983 and I have shot it many of times and used it in reenactments. So I figured that is some bit of information that you and others would like to know about that revolver. That revolver was the most well-designed revolver of its time, not only for it's fast to reloading with swapping out the cylinder but also for those grooves that allows you to carry all six loaded cylinders safely.
Nice.
Those grooves are known for wearing out even on higher quality steel used with modern replica's though, so are not generally trusted.
Back in the day no biggie, but these days you'll gonna get a mouthful for using them.
@@ToreDL87 true but that’s why the Remingtons don’t use the pins in between cylinders they use a grove that the hammer goes into way more safe and I have seen the colts pin system ware out never had problems with Remington

@@Seth9809 it is a joke I believe, because we've got some really... interesting gun laws. Basically same as in US black powder guns aren't considered firearms, at least in terms of getting a gun permit- meaning you can buy them legally provided you are 18. If you want a modern gun however, you need to acquire a gun permit from the government. This means you need to provide a viable reason (such as sport or collecting guns for a hobby) to get one in the first place. Self defense is not considered a viable reason unless you can prove you are constantly living in danger (e.g. you work as a politician or police officer). Then you need to get some firearms training, pass some exams etc., and in the end you still need to pay about 500 bucks to the government for the permit itself. Considering some other disadvantages (say, if you get a permit for collecting weapons you can own them but not carry them around) a cap and ball revolver is a neat alternative if you want to have a gun.
@@mateuszrokita6066 can you legally carry black powder guns around without a permit then?

I have one myself and the reason for that choice is to have a pistol that is dual ammo the pietta likes the 0.454 lead ball which I have two cylinders for and you can purchase a conversion kit that shoots the 45 long colt cartridge either or it's fun, and great for hunting, targeting and self defense if necessary, enjoy the video make more like the apparel too.
Easy to forget how big those old six guns were, not to mention gorgeous.
You want to talk about big? I have an Uberti Walker Colt clone. That thing is ungainly front heavy.

@@dermagnus8482 Me to, but he's the same age as me, how?
I mean, Hell on Wheels started in 2011, and he said he watched "growing up." Which, given that he said he was 16 when he bought his first black powder revolvers, that probably puts him at around 14-16 when Hell on Wheels came out (I'm allowing for some time between seeing the show, and getting the guns). Which probably makes Brandon somewhere around 24-26.
And after writing that, I just realized that means this guy who owns multiple machine guns, and runs a gun building business is only about 4-6 years my senior. What the hell am I doing with my life?
EDIT: having looked it up, the dude's apparently 24.

.44 is an “army”, .36 is a “navy”, back in the days there were both
Navy was typically shorter. Army was longer.
@@artificemdeomnibus9059 yeah, 8” for the Army and 7.375/7.5 for the Navy variant, but what does it have to do with Brandon saying “I think originally they came in .36”? He was obviously talking about this model in general
The only reason the 1860 Army has an 8" barrel is so it will fit into the same holster as the old 1848 Army revolver.
@@Sepuku78 the 1858 did come in .44. His is the .44. So he has the army version. The navy used a .36. Thus the comment.

Just as well high capacity mags are still not allowed in Commiefornia.
Hey, at least you allowed to just have a gun. Me in Moscow need to make a lot of papers just to buy a shotgun. And i would be allowed to buy a rifled gun only after 5 years. And no pistols allowed at all
@@mEDIUMGap I thought Russian gun laws are similar to Czech. We can buy muzzleloader without gun lincense and shotgun is just shotgun, you need only basic gun license and register it on police station, you don't need buying permission, you just buy shotgun and go register that, nobody cares why you want that.
@@Pidalin For a shotgun you must be a so called "hunter"
@@mEDIUMGap Not here, it's just cat. C gun, gun license needed, but not buying permission and nobody cares why you want that, you can use it even for sport shooting or defense of your home if you want.
We have cathegories ABCD,
A - you can't buy that, full auto guns etc...only with special permission for colletor purposes etc..
B - most of pistols, revolvers and semi auto rifles - you need license and buying permission from police before you buy that
C - shotguns, lever action and bolt action rifles, black powder revolvers - you need license, but that's all, you can just buy that
D - airguns, airsoft, flobert, paintball, crossbows, strong bows (under 32lbs it's not considered as weapon) and max 2 shot blackpowder guns - anyone who is 18+ can buy that.
Also there are similar cats of gun license (not coresponding with gun cats)
A - collector purposes (21+)
B - sport (18+)
C - hunter purposes (18+)
E - self defense (21+)
D - service or work purpose (police, security, etc...)
Most of people have gun license for self defense because it's the most "powerfull" type of license and why don't have it when you can, ofcourse you need pass more tests and license is not valid so long as I know.
AH YES THE INCREDIBLY LARGE IRON
then you have the 1847 walker. The thicc iron.
the original "big iron" is the the colt dragoon which is quite a bit bigger than the remington 1858

The army models were .44 the navy models were .36. Black powder burns slower under pressure and has roughly 30 percent less power than modern powder equivalents. But it is a lot dirtier and requires frequent cleaning and light oil hence the rust you can actually see in Brandons barrel.
I swear to god there is a meme here.

I'd like to see more black powder weapon vids. My first black powder weapon was a CVA flintlock kit. Loved that pistol!!!!! And here's something for you. The War Department spec for black powder at the time of the civil war listed charcoal to be made from alder wood no more than 1/2" thick. This makes a much cleaner black powder than you can buy today. (source: Buncha vets playing with black powder and wondering how a war was fought with guns that fouled so quickly. Answer is, it wasn't.) The sparks you see when you fire are impurities that were not burned in the initial explosion and are part of what fouls the weapon.

Amazing video, the 1858 New Model Army has to be one of my favorite of the old American revolvers. I also come back here because this video is responsible to making me aware of the show Hell On Wheels years back when I first watch this. Tonight about 20 minutes ago I just finished the show. Has to be one of the greatest dramas and westerns I have ever seen. Amazing show, thanks for the recommendation Brandon.
The Ding of the target is louder than that reloadable hand granade
The reload trick works once, the fouling makes it reeeally difficult really fast though.
I would recommend the paper cartridges with the pointed bullets for these, I find them much easier and fun to use rather than loose powder and ball.
