    I just fill the cylinder with triple 7 press a ball and she hits around 900 - 1100 fps. Had my 1858 for 4 years, I cycle about 200 shots a month out of her and do a full tear down with a small flat head and clean inside and out each time. Shes my daily carry.
    Extremely Accurate and Reliable.
    Best $200 I ever spent.
    Mines the 5.5 in sheriffs model.
    As a convicted felon I can legally own and carry this loaded for personal defense. That's America and God Bless Texas Yall.

      In Texas you can legally own this , but it can only be used for home self defense or practice on your property . CANNOT be taken out of the property.. Hopefully, either you aren't in texas or are mistaken about the law..

      I've got a copy of both state and federal law in Texas and these are not regulated in any form unless you modify it to carry modern ammo. In its original state you can carry it open or concealed. Ide love to see what law you are reading. Because I keep my copies in my glove box in my truck. My local sheriff shoots at the same range as me and we talk alot and he has shot my 1858 because he was like Well ain't that cool! So you are hearing from someone that has not done the research Brother.

      "I pop about 200 balls a month out of her and do a full year down with a small flat head"..... YO DAWG, I am drunk as a skunk and high as a Georgia pine right now and I literally rolled off my chair onto the floor and laughed myself hoarse when I read that part. I still haven't stopped howling. Yo my guy, you gotta rephrase that. 😂

    I have a pietta 1851 colt navy clone(.36 caliber) great gun I got it as a Christmas present in 2016, it’s been a fun gun to shoot, the farthest I ever shot with the revolver was at a steel target at 50 yards. And amazingly I was able to hit the target 3 times. I’m thinking about get a conversion cylinder so I can shoot .38 long colt black powder cartridges

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  Рік тому +1

      I believe the manual recommends between 12-15 grains. You definitely don't want to over charge them and there's really no need to either. Use the smallest load you can to both, hit your target accurately and put a smile on your face. If you need something with a lot of power, check out a modern firearm but you'll have lots of fun with the old black powder ones. Thanks for watching!

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  9 місяців тому

      There not really "patches" that I used, at least not like the kind you'd use on a BP rifle. These are lubricated wads. They don't wrap around the ball like a patch does, but they do help with keeping the barrel a little cleaner. Thanks for watching!

    Can you use Stanley steel balls in the Stanley steel barrel ? Purpose of lead free , California !!!

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  Рік тому

      I would say no. The biggest problem with stainless, is that it will not deform when being pushed into the barrel and engage the rifling or seal the gasses in the chamber while the powder burns. Another down side of stainless to stainless interaction is that it will gall, which will cause the two surfaces to destroy themselves. This is pretty common with stainless to stainless threaded parts without proper lubrication. I would highly recommend NOT using stainless round balls in any black powder firearm.
      I have not seen anything commercially available that can be used in place of lead in these types of guns and pure lead is getting harder and harder to find in America.
      Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Needs a fork and spoon built into the loading lever assembly too. That way you kill, cook, AND eat the deer with one instrument. 😂 Black powder is awesome. A full .44 Mag case of it out of a Ruger single action is an attention grabber at every outdoor range, and an instant fog machine at an indoor one.
