    Random “tism” thought: Matt should have ground cover plants on his berm that absorb LEAD and other heavy metals, like copper. Sunflowers and ragweed are great at ‘phytoremediation’… and/or go Sexy Pink and plant Sea Pink Thrift (or other ones). Some work so well that you can collect/mow (don’t eat!) and smelt the plants down and get the lead back (no BS). There’s your random Botany Autism for your range day.

      You have a point. That's the case with any improvement in technology.
      The AR platform has been around for 70 or so years. With that much R&D, it's not hard to build a decent AR in 2024.
      I don't deny the saying of "you get what you pay for" is valid to a point. I just believe that more often than not, the quality vs price is not linear, and the further you go up in price, the more you start to pay for brand name and whatever bells and whistles are the current rage rather than improvement in quality.

    For the cheap one, get a light pull JP enterprise trigger spring set, add an adjustable gas block, and add a good muzzle break. Cost around 300 bucks. Still less than 50% of the cost of the 100% assembled one.
    I do all my builds starting with Aero Precision’s best upper and lower parts, I custom build stainless steel triggers to 3.5-4.5 pull, add adj gas block, add magpul UBR Gen2 Stock, add ASR Muzzle brake, add two magpul mags, add law tactical folder, and generally come in around 1400.
    From there add reticle or scope, and Omega 36m silencerCo silencer.
    Recently i tried an entire 50 beowulf upper from bear creek Arsenal and it fit literally perfect on my Aero lower.

      @dartdodge69 I've had 2. Had to sell the first due to bills unfortunately. But the 2nd one i bought came standard with 300 BLK and a free 5.56 Barrel, Gas Tube and Block. It was only like 450$
      I swapped the barrel out from the 300 BLK but damaged the barrel tip threads on the 300 because the washer was crushed flat and didn't come off without hell.
      I plan on buying a new 300 BLK and a 5/8 Supressor and a scope of some kind for it as well. I'd love to go IR or Night Vision if I get the money. If not for those than just a hunting rifle scope and she'll be done.
      I figured if I have a 300 BLK barrel and 300 BLK is already subsonic, a suppressor makes it even better and fits the theme.

      Same here. Got the standard mil-spec lower and a 16.5" 223/556 upper (pic up top, mlok on the sides and bottom). The lower was $129 and the upper was $239. The upper came with mbus flip up irons, and I put a Magpul grip and stock on it (extra $50). So for about $420 (heh) I was able to build a decent AR-15 in 223/556. I did add a light with a pressure pad ($40), a folding foregrip ($25) and a Monstrum 1-6 lvpo ($100 on sale). So, in total about $600 for a decent AR-15 with decent accessories. I know the light and optic aren't the best ever, but they work just fine. I only get to shoot it once a month, so I'm not testing the limitations of everything for sure.
      One thing I do know, it fires the same 223/556 rounds that a $1000 rifle with a $500 optic on it fires, and I can bullseye mine from 100 yards away, which is all I need. Fired easily over 1000 rounds from it and have never had a jam or malfunction. PSA is awesome!

    I believe the difference is just time. Lots of lower quality firearms work and many of them work reasonably well especially for the price you pay. But essentially the more you use the rifle , the more you are going to want to spend on that rifle. That’s at least my thought process. This is for quality firearms of course, but quality does not necessarily mean costly anymore. Honest outlaw has a series called “10 guns for xxx$” and you know for a fact these are good firearms.

      I agree with that assessment of spend more if you use it more. I think most people are weekend hobbyists at best, so spending 2k or more seems questionable unless you are gonna use it a lot more. People can do whatever they want, but that also includes just getting an off the shelf rifle for under 1k. Although I would like to see a longevity/reliability test on these, I still think that as long as they’re all using quality parts and not just any old shitty metal to increase profit, it’s gonna be fine.

    Hi there! I'm an armorer. My agency pays me to do it. They've been paying me to do it for 23 years. I've been working on guns with my father since I was a kid, so nearly 40 years. I have 5 factory certifications in the Ar15/M16 platform, not including multiple certifications in other platforms. All of that means a bunch of 20-somethings on the internet will not listen. However, a new Ar really needs to be disassembled by an armorer or gunsmith and properly set up. You don't HAVE to, but it is the best way to get the most out of a new rifle. A set up means the gun's lower is torn down and the parts are all cleaned of any manufacturing debris. The rifle is properly lubricated and reassembled. The aluminum receiver has an anodized finish and is a dull gray from the factory. It's a rough finish, meant to absorb oils to help protect the metal. So, part of the set-up is spraying the receiver inside and out with a CLP and then wiping it out to get that absorption started. However, if you're going to coat or paint the gun, don't have that done. When it's new is the best time to coat it. Cera-Kote is the best option for that. The grit in a mil-spec trigger is largely due to machining artifacts and bits of grit that may have been on the persons hands who assembled the rifle, especially a budget gun. Even after set-up, there will still be a gritty, shifting feel in a mil-spec trigger. That's the steel pins rotating in the aluminum receiver. A set of non-rotating pins will cure almost all of that (not anti-drift, that's a waste of money). It's a $30 to $40 trigger job that you can do yourself. Apply some weapons grade grease to the pins before install. Do NOT try to polish or file the mil-spec parts. They are surface hardened and you will risk severely reducing their service life. You may now return to listening to the opinions of people who haven't been alive longer than I've been working on guns.

      That is a really pompous attitude, ya know?

      To tell them to pay someone (someone like you) to clean their guns before they are allowed shoot it for themselves, and then to end on another insult.
      Wouldn't a simple "hey, the AR platforms likes a deep clean through before the first shots." Work just as well, and get the same point across?

    • @arinmullins4175
      @arinmullins4175 2 місяці тому +2

      Yeah, an armorer who recommends anti rotation pins and having EVERY firearm completely stripped after purchase is an absolute moron.
      A: the trigger pins are meant to rotate. Cassette style triggers that don't have a tensioner may need anti walk pins, no trigger needs anti rotation pins.
      2: The reason we pay for higher quality rifles is to get those higher tolerances and QC checks that eliminate the need to scrutinize every part in the rifle.

    • @Cmoth040
      @Cmoth040 2 місяці тому

      @@arinmullins4175 You do you. What I do works. I've seen not doing it lead to issues, mostly novices proclaiming guns to be junk when they were just not taken care of properly. You're clearly just being derogatory for the attention. Have a day.
