Ok this is a bit long. 1992 my friend and I were at Gatwick airport waiting to take my first flight to LA, stood behind us was Lewis and his family. I introduced myself and asked if he was going on hols to. He said it was only him going over to do some writing. He gave us the telephone number and address of where he was staying and said we should call him up when settled and go out for a beer. (Let me just say in 92 I was 23 and a big fan of The Professionals) After a couple days I phoned him and that evening drove to where he was staying and picked him up. He said we should head to nearby Redondo pier. I think we tried about 4 or 5 pubs and also watched through the window an aerobic class in the Golds gym!!!. The guy was an absolute legend and gent. I did keep in touch up until a couple months before he passed and I’ve got to say in my life I’ve been lucky enough to have met many famous people but Lewis will always be the best and my greatest name dropper. RIP Lewis. Love to the family.

Have loved discovering The Professionals on ITV hub and now am quite addicted to Lewis Collins - a beautiful man and a warm and funny human being. I agree he should have been Bond - how is it that often the really special ones don't get the lasting success that they deserve ? I loved discovering a bit more about him in This is Your Life. I am always amazed at the impact that an actor can have when they bring a character to life - Bodie scintillates across the years and Lewis Collins in him. Well done Lewis, endless admiration, peace and love .
I suspect he didn't get the role because Broccoli knew he would have smashed it and it would have made him a big star - it would have made him bigger than James Bond! ARB didn't like Lewis - probably because he was a genuine down-to-earth bloke.
Was lucky enough to visit the place where Lewis rests in LA. Moving experience , well worth the trip but tinged with a little sadness with such a big star that meant so much to so many ending up in a quiet corner of a far away crematorium.

Unbelievable how good looking this guy was,he did audition for bond but cubby broccoli thought he was a little too aggressive so Roger Moore got the part instead, he was a really tough guy in real life, a black belt in karate and jujitsu and passed the examination to join SAS but was not allowed to join because of his celebrity status
I adored him+ still do X🙏👼
What a cool guy Lewis was...we all want to be like him sometimes..
He's buried over here,San Pedro, lovely place,😎 California 😎
He probably would have been good as James Bond portraying the character how Dalton did serious, gritty and realistic
JT thorn He *would* have been good as Bond with a better, easier sense of humour than Dalton, who couldn’t quite handle the witty part of the character.
This guy would of been Perfect as James Bond. God knows why he never got picked!
Yes, Connery and Moore were already too old in the late 70s.
Maybe, Collins had a bad accent?
He auditioned but was deemed “too aggressive”
@@Eire_Go_Deo That's very interesting
Collins and Martin Shaw reportedly did not get along, not that that matters here. What a great actor he was and sadly missed.
You can see Lewis reaction
Indeed, I think it was 'convenient' that Shaw was busy and couldn't attend.
Shame all the comments are not about Lewis. Class actor. 👍
It's a lovely episode.....then Jimmy turns up. Lewis didn't look exactly thrilled
His face says it all with saville dosen't it
Watch him in jack the ripper 1988 mint british actor
BEAUTIFUL....RIP ...LOVE.U...
Great man. Sad he never knew how we loved him. :-( Still love you, "LEWIS COLLINS" :-) Xx
Lewis was clearly a real man's man with a heart of gold and so should have been bond, he would of been fantastic, I think Lewis had a feeling something wasn't right about Saville but wasn't sure what? Had he known he would have clearly blew up a hornets nest I'm sure, rip Lewis your the best.
Collins had a chance to out Savile, but like so many others he said nothing, which is sad for such a seemingly great guy. Even if Collins had supported those victims by way of public approval it may had made a difference.
Rather too easy to say about the dead who cannot answer for themselves.
Lovely guy Lewis was. I'll bet if he knew what Savile was doing he would have throw him into the Thames wearing a pair of concrete slippers.
I had to turn it off, at 22:18
@@theonlyantony Me too. Instant flesh crawl. Love Lewis though.
Rip lovely lewis
