    I remember as a kid in 1969, my Dad would sit and watch Star Trek reruns that would always come on just before supper time at 6:00pm in the evening. My Mom always tried to make sure supper would be ready right after Star Trek. She wasn't a fan of the show and at that time, I would come in from outside playing getting ready to eat as I would sit next to my Dad always asking questions about what just happened on the show or why did this or that happened. He didn't want to be interrupt so he would always tell me to go and play in my room until supper time was ready. I didn't know anything about the show and tried to get myself into it but couldn't. Now that I am a whole lot older, I have seen every episodes of the original Star Trek over and over again.

    When you listen to the bicycle story the genuine laughter coming from Bill is contagious and so nice to hear. People in the comments need to stop the hate. And no one mentions the mad professor skit? So funny! Just imagine a teen Bill Shatner performing this to children!!

    The Universe would not be right without Bill Shatner and/or Jim Kirk! His (Shatner's) early work on the Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and films like Brothers Kamazarov and Judgement at Nuremberg were equally great, he does somehow stand out, even in a smaller role. He had great quality of diction and learned his trade on the stage in Shakespere in Stratford, Ontario. That Shatner voice is so distinctive.

      Gordon Warlow Aspel wasn't too bad an interviewer (his chat show Aspel & Co ran for years) but his predecessor as host on TIYL was Eamon Andrews who was FAR better

    • @tasercs
      @tasercs 6 років тому +12

      Michael Aspel (the host) had a dry wit but also the intelligence to be gracious and respectful of his 'target'. He did not want to steal the limelight. He said just enough but always stood a few steps back to allow the guest to be center stage. A great professional.
      Perhaps an ideal example of the cultural differences between Britain and America. One, understated and considered, the other in your face. A good example would be to compare poor Laurel and Hardy on the American 'This is Your Life' they looked shell-shocked and awkward the whole way through and never really relaxed. The presenter of that was so overpowering to be almost sickly.

    • @darrenjones3784
      @darrenjones3784 5 років тому +5

      Michael Aspel is great.

    • @Scripture-Man
      @Scripture-Man 5 років тому +1

      These are all valid points about professionalism, however, with all due respect, I find Michael Aspel extremely boring, emotionally vacant and cold. I grew up watching him on TV and yet never liked him. Frankly I think he got lucky having a TV career. Yes, the host of This Is Your Life shouldn't steal the show, and needs to let the guests have all the attention, but it's perfectly possible for him to do this while still having bags of charm and warmth himself.
      I think Richard Whiteley was that kind of a host, and IMHO he would have been a lot better presenter of This is Your Life. Matthew Kelly also did this kind of thing on Stars In Their Eyes - supportive of the guests, but warm and charming. I also love Clive Anderson, who knows how to quietly give others the limelight, yet has a real charm about him. I could probably go on…!

    Did they show one of Shatner's early acting appearances, Nightmare at 20,000 feet? It's an early episode of Twilight Zone, he also appeared in another early episode, can't remember the title, but it has a memorable cafe scene concerning a penny fortune telling machine Shatner becomes obsessed with. Highly recommend these episodes for Shatner/Star Trek fans.. his acting intensity and emotion was there right from the start, he really was good and stole the show.

    As a teen, "Rescue 911."
    As an adult, "Twelve O'clock High."

      He was also starred in The Twilight Zone two different times, only two episodes "Nick Of Time" as Mr. Don S. Carter in 1960 and "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet" as Robert "Bob" Wilson in 1963. I know it wasn't his main show but I thought he was great in those different episodes that he played as different characters. Also had a part in the television show, "Boston Legal" as Denny Crane and the most recent one is "THE UNXPLAINED" as himself, not really playing any character, it's about a show with certain things you can't explain that is unexplained.

    I never realised this is your life had gone aboard to cover foreign celebrities. I'd though it was all UK based.
    Really interesting show though and Shatner comes across as someone, who whilst they might like to have fun with their fellow cast, is a nice person to work with.

    Question:- Why would you find Kirk or the Enterprise at Universal Studios when "Paramount" produced Star Trek?

      Maybe Paramount used Universal Studio's for some sets, or he just decided to visit there first while in the neighbourhood.

      Universal leased the rights or something because they used to have a stage show where audience members were pulled up on stage to play roles in the show. Universal Studios Florida had something vaguely similar except there was no audience and guests could pay to go into a green screen studio and act out a story in Star Trek and take home a video of the finished product. I know the Universal Florida thing has been removed. I don't know about Universal Hollywood's stage show though
