+Asalieri2 No, they were not great friends at all. Initially, when Ali was in exile, they might have been friendly and mostly on Joe's part, but Ali destroyed all that by taunting and ridiculing Joe. Frazier wasn't blessed with the gift of the gab that Ali had, and Mohammed played on that big style. Their fights were hard, bitter, and eventually, career ending for them both. One massive shame about Ali's career is how he treated Frazier. He made him out to be an uncle tom, and basically made his life hell. The saddest thing about it all was when years later Joe revealed his ringtone, a song he sang himself about causing Ali's parkinson's disease and how his punches were the cause of it. Ali treated Frazier appallingly ... it's why he can't believe he appeared in this tribute.

Oh my god. My face is sore from smiling so much. Right the way to the end when Smoken Joe Frazier lit up the room with his story about their time together. Muhammad Ali ,you truly were the greatest ❤
Ali said of Frazier: “I always bring out the best in men I fight, but Joe Frazier, I'll tell the world right now, brings out the best in me. I'm gonna tell ya, that's one helluva man, and God bless him."
I always loved Joe Frazier, now i love Muhammad Ali... It was love hate really, because of how he treated Joe in their rivalry. But Ali has since apologised to Joe a few times. Joe had a harder time with forgiving Ali. I believe it fueled his drinking, thus hastened his death. Joe was a sensational Boxer. Rated 8th of all time by Ring magazine. And Joe was only 5 10". With a warriors heart. Ali was the greatest of all time !!
It is well known now, but Smokin Joe was blind in one eye - sometimes he was fighting almost completely blind, he's an amazingly tough guy and he was hurt by some of Ali's comments...so I think it was pretty gracious of him to appear here after some of the stuff Ali said about him in the 70s.
Beautiful when anchor called him with his old name and he corrected him and said Muhammad. Sooo heart touching.this the beautiful name of our beloved prophet peace be upon him.
Love how excited Ali was for his guests, he was genuinely amazed to see them come on the show…This was in 1978 (45 yrs ago) and I can say with confidence that we will never witness another man this legendary again. I still remember where I was when Ali passed, and even though I didn’t know him personally a wave of grief struck me and I continue carrying it till this day. Muhammad Ali is one of the most respected and admirable human beings to ever walk on the earth. He has been relentless and completely unafraid to speak about His love for God and his desire to carry out God's message in front of a crowd of millions, after the world fell head over heals for him due to his title and his charismatic personality. He used his fame and power to help others, and never abused it. A true giant. and a great spirit. I am blessed to be a part of the same religion of Islam as this champion.
Ali was never the greatest, he was defeated by 5 different opponents. All that greatest BS started after he defeated Liston and was heard in the shower yelling over and over, "I "is" the greatest." And from there the willfully ignorant and easily duped promoted it. On the other hand what he truly was is the greatest mouth.
@@johnharris8191 he went on to beat 3 of those who bet him in rematches, he was only beat and didn't beat back untill he was 38. He had the greatest personality I agree, he is only one of two people to win the ring magazine belt twice, the other was tyson fury.

"I feel like a little boy who just got a toy for Christmas," teared me up. As a child I cheered and watched Ali. Our household was alive with the hope, willl, and prayers for his victory. His wife, Veronica Porche, was my dad's sister-in-law's (Aunt Grace's ) relative. When Ali visited Lake Charles, LA with Veronica, who was visiting relatives, the entire city was abuzz. Our neighborhood was particularly abuzz when he visited with Veronica. His graciousness to all the children and adults will forever be cherished and the hope he gave to our people during the time when we were fighting for civil rights will forever be cemented in our hearts. We thank God for Cassius Clay Mohammed Ali. ❤

When I ran into Muhammad Ali on the street in Los Angeles in the mid 80’s he was already declining mentally, but everyone around him showed him the utmost respect and love that he deserved, and he appreciated it.
I wish, have you seen his interview to become World Heavyweight champion for the 4th time?? This episode is BEFORE the Larry Holmes fight and the decline is obvious, his response is late to everything being projected to him
I saw him, during that period, going to a Thrifty drug store in L.A. He saw my little daughter and me and stepped toward us and lifted her up over his head. It made my day. Yes, he was struggling but he was so graceful. But he was capable of driving his brown Rolls convertible unassisted.
@Jay arr Same thing with the UFC champion who (I can't pronounce his name) beat Conor Mcgragor. Muslims don't care about other UFC champions in other weight divisions and don't contribute their rise and championship to their respective religion (hint: Christianity), but only adore that guy from Russia only because of his religion, whereas any champion's rise has to do with his/her own talent, will and hardship and nothing to do with religion. But muslims feel so inferior about their own status in the world that when somebody becomes a champion who happens to be a muslim not by choice but birth (which is also true regarding other religions) they throw all the rational out and credit the person's championship because of his devotion to Islam which is unfortunate. Out of 500 top universities in the world, not one is located in any Islamic country. What % of Noble Prize winners are from Islamic countries? I won't read any responses because I know what the responses would be!! Muhammad Ali was a great decent human being and champion, but as to the names he chose: Muhammed: the prophet of Islam; before he declares himself prophet; his honorable job was to attack people on dirt roads and confiscate their belongings and he married a 12 year old child. That is how honorable he was. The other guy Ali, his greatest honor was to behead 700 people in just one day (is that even possible? A day is only 24 hours!)this is not something I make up; Shia muslims who adore Ali say that about him, not to condone but celebrate his legacy. Go figure!! Islam has spread through out the world not by power of persuasion but sword. Just ask Iranians whose ancestors were beheaded and bled to death, should they decide not to convert to Islam.
@Jay arr Well said. I couldn't agree more. There should be no "us versus them". Before being Muslim, Christian...., White, Black..... we are all human beings and should treat others the way we like to be treated.
@@13muller9 maybe you need to do some research about the real islam before you start talking out of your behind. "I WOn'T ReAd AnY ReSpOnSes" shows just how ignorant you are to the truth and to others who want to correct you. What makes you think that muslims won't support or like other UFC fighters, I along with many other muslims supported connor McGregor before he started making islamophobic comments to get publicity. Dont talk on our behalf when you don't know anything about muslims, all you know is the crap you've read up from other racist Islamophobic people. Muhammad the prophet (may peace be upon him) did nothing of what you claim, you dont know the true history of islam and might I also add that in those times it was customary to marry a girl who was a lot younger as was the case in Europe and other western countries so stop trying to single him out and make him out to be a monster when you don't know anything. Shia people are not muslims because they dont follow the teachings of islam, and Iranians are largely non-muslims so where the hell are you getting all your info from. With that being said; I WoN't ReAd AnY ResPoNseS bEcAUse I KNoW wHat tHe ResPoNSes WiLL Be.
@Jay arr maybe If muslims weren't persecuted and oppressed all over the world then they wouldn't think its them against the world. People like you only speak up when it is absolutely pointless to do so. One of the real reasons why many muslims celebrated and were big fans of his was because he fought to defend islam which connor was ridiculing and spreading hate about. This comes from someone who once avidly supported Conor. And so what if muslims only support athletes that are muslim, there's nothing wrong with that. Why does it bother people like you so much. Don't chat crap and start speaking on behalf of muslims when you don't really know anything about them. People don't only celebrate Muhammad Ali for being a muslim, he stood up for black people and went through alot of hardships for being a muslim. And yet all these other people who you claim don't support athletes because of religion or other such reasons were suddenly nowhere to be seen when Muhammad Ali became muslim and they tried to and many times did take away his championship title. So dont be hypocritical and talking about us and them yourself, when you hold a close- minded view about muslims.
I remember watching this as a child with my parents when it first aired and my dad was in tears from beginning to end. Fast forward 40 odd years and I'm watching it with my children in a flood of tears. More than likely, this scenario will be repeated with my children and grandchildren at some time in the future. There will never be another like Ali! Thank you uploader for the wonderful memories..
We’ve had some laid back champions like Lennox, some powerful champions like deontay, Tyson, foreman and Frazier some charismatic/funny champions like fury and we’ve had some dominate champions like Klitschko and Larry Holmes but none of these compare to the goat which is Muhammad Ali.
You can't really measure the connection these two great boxers had after they fought each other to a standstill in that second fight. They went through something together that night that no mere mortal could ever understand.
In the ring Joe Frazier whop Muhammad Ali good and Joe won. Outside the stage tho, Ali went on his verbal abuse to Joe. But Privately they are good friend, Joe even lending him money during Ali’s low point after being banned from 🥊. Friendship aside, in the ring they are two sportsmen, fighting for the title whopping each other and knocking one another, blows after blows.
@@broerymarantika853 actually Joe spent a month in the hospital and that was a controversial decision. He did not whoop ali good. But he won the decision.
@@broerymarantika853 Frazier did NOT like Ali at all in the beginning, and for years later. I remember, because I was around to see it. Frazier walked off the Dick Cavett show in the early 70s, enraged at Ali's treatment of him before a national TV audience. Maybe in later years they got closer, but NOT while they were both competing. Frazier always got the shitty end of the stick. What an insult to Joe when Philly had the nerve to erect a statue of a fighter who never existed, but no statue of Joe. If Joe was alive, who could blame him if he told Philly to stick the statue up their ASS!!
i can't believe I'm watching this for the first time. Ali was one of the very few people I wished I had met - he was just something else. He had a heart as big as a whale and changed the entire face of sport with his brash, brave banter. Just a magnificent human being.
I've told my kids Ali was in the rap game before rap was born! He was so smooth when in the spotlight. Whether fighting or using his words to get in his opponent's head. We use the term "The Greatest " quite often these days. Ali truly was. There will never be another like him may God rest his soul.
Ali as great as he was, was allowed to act like a jackass at times and get away with it. Jim Brown,Wilt, and Elgin Baylor would have been villified if they said I'm the Greatest, and opponents were Bums.
@@vernpascal1531 The jack ass part was actually scripted. He was a pro wrestling fan early on and attended an event after meeting Gorgeous George if I remember right. He watch how GG played the villain & noticed the crowds reaction to it. He brought it to the boxing world after that. Smart dude

Whenever I wanna release my emotions, i just search for any of Ali's documentaries then I go watch and cry in floods. His smile is emotionally magnetic. RIP Legend 🕊️
Another great gift from God to us, Ali was certainly not ordinary, and it's not just his boxing, it's all of him, everything about him. Always speaks his mind regardless and then turns and shows so much love. He Knew he wanted to be the greatest and he simply went and did it. He was a prophet in his own way, He spoke and it came to pass.
When those kids shouted out "you are the greatest" I teared up with Ali. The man got his flowers while he could still smell them and he knew it. That makes me happy
It warms my heart and makes me teary when I see his reaction to Frazier. The man he went to such ferocious wars with. Proves how much he actually admired and respected Frazier. I know he did it to sell the fight but wish he was a bit nicer to him. Both legends
After that fight in Manila he told Fraziers son to ignore all the pre fight offensive talk. He had great respect for Frazier. Ali was such a promoter and the press and public could not get enough of him.
Also bare in mind that Ali said, and I quote - "If I ever had to go to war, I want Joe Frazier right beside me." Boxing is a sport among gladiators. They challenge each other's ego to bring out their best. Historic rivals like Sugar Ray Robinson and LaMotta were fierce against each other, then had a steak dinner over some laughs afterwards.
Ali never hated Frazier, but Frazier hated Ali. Frazier boasted that he caused Ali’s tremors. He wanted Ali to fall into the Olympic flame. Ali did sort of apologize to Frazier’s son, but never directly to Joe.
What makes Ali so great? He overcame great odds to get where he was going and promised everyone up front, "I am going to be the greatest". Promise made; promise kept.
@@Suleei The difference is clear, only the "A" and the "E". A li'l spelling difference. Can't you see it yourself? It's like the English word "centre" that the Americans spell it as "center".
@@omidhimmati Well put, but it goes deeper. Muhammad was Mr. Ali's name, and people ought to pay attention to the way chosen names are spelled, or preferred. If someone wishes to be called James, to take the argument further, with a non-spelling example, it would be rude to call him Jimmy.
Now this is a true reality tv show!! This is what it means to be the greatest!! Imagine being told how awesome you are to your face while you're alive. 😎
I’m watching in Jan 2025. Never liked boxing …. except for this King. It’s his attitude to be the best that inspired many of us. Thank you Greatest. RIP.

Same with his brother. No wonder he has such strength. And his wife was gorgeous. Nice how he played along to perfection. Great show!
What a guy, sometimes I forget Ali was a boxer, he has the aura of a man destined for greatness, in whatever. That legendary charisma, wisdom and intelligence transcends boxing.

That is why he was so harsh on him talking trash!
jackster1212 ...Ali, also stated, "If he was ever in a holy war he wanted Joe Frazier by his side"

He was only declining physically.

A great champion of all time. A proud Muslim and a great human being.
May Allah have him a special place in Jannatulfirdous. Aameen..
@Jay arr of course: religion is a faith that brought him closer to his personal beliefs. However his success and humanity is alone admirable.
With that being said;
I WoN't ReAd AnY ResPoNseS bEcAUse I KNoW wHat tHe ResPoNSes WiLL Be.

😜
I loved joe Frazier’s shit eating grin, I think he only did it, to surprise the shit out of ali and Psyched him out
After that fight in Manila he told Fraziers son to ignore all the pre fight offensive talk.
