    Eleanor, I’m going to ask for a favour. Please do a video on Terry Coleman, from Scotland. He was my older cousin who died around Christmas from a murder. If you did one it would make me so happy that he’s being recognised ❤️ thank you for saying all these kind words ❤️

    Does anyone else get nightmares after binge watching true crime videos? I go through phases of watching them because they end up making me really paranoid about getting murdered myself and I start getting nightmares where I get murdered in them so then I stop watching them for a while, but I always come back to them because they’re interesting!!

It’s okay tho my family are just inside and I sit near my front door, never have dreams of random people killing me either

    Just a PSA: you can report someone missing at any time, Not after 24 hours like you see on the TV (as that is a lie) if you have a valid excuse for why the missing person has gone missing I.e. it may be out of character for them/they are never late but always answer their texts and they aren't etc.
    Stay safe people!

    • @lbateman25
      @lbateman25 6 років тому +48

    As for the trash bags possibly being determined to be from a roll owned by the killer, I'm a huge lame nerd who watches Forsensic files and the like and just thought someone might like to know how I've heard you can tell. The way they're manufactured by pouring boiling plastic into thin sheets, they make random patterns that can be unique to each batch like the rings on a tree. So if you get a roll of trash bags from the killer's possession and the trash bag found at crime scene and the patterns line up, it's most definitely from that roll because the patterns are said to be unique. This may only be certain brands or an old way of making trash bags, as lots of the cases on forensics files are from the 90s I think.

    • @daydaychyna
      @daydaychyna 4 роки тому +10

      Same! I love Forensic Files & the old school cold case n was about to say the same about the bags. & I wonder if about the question if rape... wonder if he was & like Eleanor said he maybe accidently killed her early or got spooked & decided to kill her & I think he could have masturbated somewhere close to her & maybe ejaculate & or sweat found around the scene or on her like on her bindings or bag or body. With the conflicting reports about if there was or wasn't DNA I wonder if earlier reports say no DNA & maybe reports on later dates say there was DNA giving time for testing to come out. Idk just curious

Truly heartbreaking that such a disgusting person could take another person's life, and the worst part is to realize that there are soo many evil people and it is almost impossible to understand that you have fallen into the wrong place and the wrong time. Knowing that Latvia is relatively small country (only about ~2mil people), we are very emotional to hear that Latvian is capable of doing something so horrific. I would like to express my deepest condolences to Alice and her family. Thank you, Eleanor, for telling the world this case. Not sure if this is how they figured it out cause obv it isn't public info but I thought it might be interesting to think about!!

      Jill Staricka if the bag was the last one taken off the roll then the striations of the rips can be compared to look for similarities. Even if it’s not the last one the drum of the machine that makes them like you said can impart imperfections. If you look under a microscope with underneath illumination you can see changes in the thickness of the plastic. If that can be compared then it would be likely it’s from the same roll.
      I have a degree in forensics. I’m still watching the video so I haven’t heard all the evidence yet but bin bags are great for fibre evidence as the plastic creates static and attracts fibres to the plastic.

      ok 1 that is a super sick degree to get and 2 I'm glad I wasn't being dumb I just felt like I remembered something similar to that and otherwise I'm not sure how they would have known it was from the same roll

      Jill Staricka yeah I’ve seen a lot of different cases where they’ve matched bin liners back to the exact brand and then roll it’s fascinating how they can do that as in your mind you’d think they would be pretty generic apart from how thick and strong they are xxx

    I wonder if his intention was to rape her and she died accidentally. Obviously not excusing what this vile man did in any way but maybe he saw her by the canal, climbed on top of her and raped her (Alice suffered from anorexia and was very slight compared to him) and the weight of his body on top of her compressed her chest to the point where she couldn’t breathe. He didn’t notice she had died until after he got up from on top of her, and decided calling for help wasn’t an option so decided to conceal her body instead. I think her clothes were most likely removed because he thought when he put her into the water all DNA would be washed away.. in the murder of his wife in Latvia it was very bloody, she was bludgeoned and stabbed and that doesn’t match Alice’s injuries.. I think it’s also important to note that he raped but did not kill the previous 14 year old girl he assaulted. Obviously I don’t know, but I’m just theorising here. RIP Alice, the world became darker when you left it ❤️ great video Eleanor you look radiant!

    14:37, I think I might have some info about the neon colours on the phone pictured! It used to be a trend around 2013-14 to trace the cracks on the back of broken phones with colourful sharpie pens. I remember doing it myself and it was mainly done by young teens-primarily girls. I’m pretty sure the moustache craze was popular then, too, and in the video in the beginning, Alice is wearing a moustache top. It could suggest she was a trend follower and may mean that the phone the police found at Arnis’ house really was hers, or was at least another girl’s.

It is also frightening that a majority leave in the afternoon or early evening. It's not as if they are wondering the streets at midnight. Why does no one see anything? I

    This is really sad. If that first girl went through the trial and had him prosecuted, Alice would still be alive today. We need to teach people it's smart and wise to report crimes and have people convicted... You never know who their next target will be and we need a better system in place to protect victims while they tell the legal system to convict their rapists.

    • @alexbennet4195
      @alexbennet4195 3 роки тому +2

      The sad thing is though, that's probably not even true... even if he were actually found guilty (and VERY few rapist are, since it's so difficult to prove), I wouldn't even expect him to have recieved more than a few years in prison before they kicked him out again, with little to no intense rehabilitative counselling to ensure he's no longer a threat, or monitoring.
      Considering the amount of abducting rapist murderers that did have past convictions (a lot!), and still were released to commit even more horrific crimes, a doubt a small amount of prison time would have really prevented this man from murdering a child.

      Em Hicks exactly Eleanor is stunning. I’m a good chunk older than her and I don’t really watch make up tutorials because hers is always flawless!!! I love how she does her eyeshadow and the rest all looks so natural. No orange face like I find a lot of youtubers who do make up tutorials do xxx

    Thank you for covering this case. I was hesitant about watching it because at the time I lived very close to Alice and her suspected murderer. I was in sixth form at the time and passed where the suspect lived every day on my way to and from school. I remember when the funeral procession passed by my house and the whole area was distraught. Once again, you've been informative and respectful and this case is very close to home for me so thank you. x

    So I feel that with Alice being totally submerged in water for such a long time would have made identifying sexual trauma a bit difficult. I mean keep your foot or hand in water for several hours and your skin discolored, and disfigured. Now genitalia especially a woman being in water that long would have made it next to impossible to identify exactly what trauma she had endured.
    I was a cosmetician in a morgue for 10 years. It was eye opening to see how much the skin changed when water or any fluid was involved.
    However that isn’t what made me feel Arnis (sp) is the one that did it.
    What made me feel as though he had committed Alice’s murder was that he can be placed near her and the scene of the murder multiple times.
    Why is it though that the bike wheel wasn’t connected in anyway to him? He road a bike. So he had to have extra bike parts on his property.
    Why wasn’t that one of the first things they looked into when connecting Arnis to Alice?
    Bike rims have numbers in them to identify what style they are and where they were made.
    Second, trash bags do have batch numbers on them. Either on the draw or on the bottom.
    And the inside providing water didn’t leak in it they could have found a print on the inside.
    At any rate Yellow is your signature color girl!
    Xoxoxoxoxoxoxo.

      This is old but I still wanted to comment. They believe she was sexually assaulted but since her genitalia wasn't damaged, they cannot conclusively state she was. They know it was sexually motivated because his DNA was found on her vulva, her shoes, and a cigarette butt by the location. Plus, he had raped a girl 2 miles near Alice shortly before but the girl didn't press charges. Considering that they couldn't find the cause of death because she was in the water for so long, we can assume that sexual assault cannot definitively be ruled out.
      It's surprising he only got 7 years for killing his wife. If he had more time and if his previous rape victim went forward with her complaint, Alice Cross would still be alive. Plus, if the immigration investigation was better, he wouldn't have terrorized anyone in the UK.

    I’d be really surprised if any DNA left on her body would be useful after 5 weeks underwater. But I do know you can match garbage bags on a roll by their unique perforations between the bags. And lastly, the shoe thing is odd but I have heard two general theories for removing shoes; so the victim doesn’t leave a track of prints, DNA, or scent and also to make it much more difficult to run away. Or he could have just thought it was a random forensic countermeasure he saw on a cop show 🤷🏻‍♀️😉

    A reason Alice could have put her shoes in the bag is she could have been putting her feet in the water. She was at a canal after all. And I feel personally like he intended on sexually assaulting her and while trying to keep her quiet, he might have crushed her. He probably knelt on her chest with his knees. I saw another case where that happened. They're focusing so hard on making sure they stay quiet that they accidentally suffocate/crush the victim before they can even do anything. Then they panic and hide the body. Another reason I support that theory is if she was anorexic and small, it wouldn't have taken him kneeling very hard to crush her. May she rest in peace.

      I agree with part of what you were saying. But I live near this canal no one would ever put their feet in there. It is disgusting. Most people will avoid having to stop at all down there anyway. It’s doggie and gross.

    A small note on the bin bag identification, which was covered in an episode of CSI, each person rips a bag off the roll differently and when the torn edges are compared under a microscope the tiny tears and stretched plastic match up. So it’s not just the same size, colour and brand they can confirm but also the matching rip pattern along the edges 🙂
