This song has never really done it for me. Never touched me. I came across this version tonight at 3 in the morning and I’m crying my eyes out. I get it. It gets me. Beautiful.
This song has always brought tears to my,eyes as a person of Irish ancestry. I never made it to Belfast but my brother was there in the late 70s and my spouse was there in the early 2000s but I did have a brief visit to Northern Ireland and wish I could have made it to the Republic of Ireland. As Americans we can never fully understand but can still feel the pain of our sisters and brothers in Ireland. U2 and Sinead shared that in their music. R.I.P., Daughter of Ireland. You’ve earned your Peace.
Sinead O'Connor from an Irish Canadian, sending you love through the clouds whereever you are. The world just didn't get it or you, their loss. Thanks for the music, my childhood musical memories. You made Ireland so PROUD AND ALL IRISH DESENDANTS, WHAT EVER SHORE WE TRAVELLED TO. REST YOUR HEAD, HEAR THE WIND IN YOUR EAR, GAZING ALONG THE GREEN IRISH FIELDS. REST IN PEACE!💯❤🇨🇦❤🇮🇪

Tree shaker, indeed. Having never been to Belfast myself but having a brother and spouse who were there for an extended amount of time, hearing this song in its original form and having a lineage back to Ireland on both sides of my family this song really. Roughy the tears. May you finally have Peace, Sweet Girl.
Jim Kerr's voice has carried me through more than half my life and here it was classic, but here, too was Sinéad O'Connor and oh, my, that any voice could carry such emotion. Overwhelming, you felt every note she sang. Charlie Burchill's solo was like a balm, soothing after her words. Stunning, this.
As soon as Sinead starts ... Goosebumps and tears. Suffering from Depression and loneliness for so many years myself and knowing that she does too, i can feel where her beautiful, *magic* Voice comes from.
❤😊💐🙏🍀😊🥰🌻☺️🌺🍀💕🙋🏻♀️ Wonderfully written, thank you and yes I exactly understand, same with me. Love this Version, indeed she is lovely Great song forever
Her part is She Moved Through the Fair, I think her version was He Moved Through the Fair, she recorded it and it was on the Michael Collins soundtrack so you can hear her full version
To the people critiquing her voice, it's not about perfect tune, vibrato and pitch......it's about the power, raw believe feeling and pure emotion. Power. She's as fantastic as she ever was. Listen again, focus on that intensity, and hopefully you get there. That's what it's about.
A few years ago i had the chance to cross Jim Kerr's path in Brussels it was a magical moment in many ways. I ended up our talking by asking him if he never considered to sing with Sinéad, he replied that he was'nt sure that she liked him. A years after i found this gem and it makes me smile... Rest in peace Sinéad, you've been so brave and inspiring!
Wow what a performance from simple minds and the orchestra. Sinead cuts through the air with her astonishing voice! Just perfection! Plus her singing 'Troy' is just sublime🙏💚🎶
I think that's the best version of that song I've ever seen, what a performance. Saw them live at Stonehaven and they were meant to have a break while we went live to Edinburgh for bells via a huge tv screen. Oh no Jim was having none of that, he said "We are Simple Minds and this is the best party in Scotland, they should going live to us" with that they carried on playing hit after hit while fireworks went off in background, it was brilliant. One of the best bands of all time.
This song from Simple Minds has always been a good one. With Sinead as an extra goes up a few notches! The drums and pipes are lovely. R.I.P Sinead , lovely to hear Scottish and Irish together.
Four times I have listened to this song and on each occasion tears have rolled down my cheeks purely and simply because of Sinead's wondrous diamond cutting singing voice ….out of this world.....xxxx

I love this song. I imagine the Belfast Child to be a bright butterfly, bringing hope, love and, above all, trust back to the city. She is not quite home, but she is on her way.

Wow.. her song is beautiful. I was born in Belfast during the troubles and grew up in Australia, have been back to the ol’town once in 1991 and my heart is still there.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, amply illustrates why many of the greatest pop and rock musicians in the world wanted Sinead O'Connor to do guest vocals on their albums, including Sting, Massive Attack, Afro-Celt Sound System, and many others. I love this Song, Is magic.
One of the greatest songs of The Simple Minds
Great version with Sinead OÇonnor!
