She wrote this song, correct? If so to me this may be the most touching and most important of all of her work. How this is not sung and played in every pub in Ireland, and even some in the UK is beyond me... I am mesmerized by how the song was crafted. On the surface it is a simple song about an Irish Woman singing to her Englishman lover or husband. But it is actually an allegory to the UK's relationship with/domination over Ireland over the centuries. Simply breathtaking when combined with the beautiful music and Sinead's amazing voice. "Why have you never told me you love me? Why have you never said you are sorry?" We love you Sinead and Ireland, and we are sorry. Please find the healing you need and deserve.
Exactly! Such a beautifully aching song of a couple, but also an appeal to common ppl to stop letting governments divide and kill us. Could be sung to spread peace to many conflicts worldwide I believe

I love the clarity of her voice.
Lovely.. but Ballymurphy was different. She did get it right.
I was listening to this on my way to work this morning thinking about how much I would like to cover it. What a strange way this day ended, forever unfortunately for this beautiful soul. RIP Sinead.
I think flooding the world with Sinéad O'Conner covers would be an amazing gift.
This beautiful woman is my hero. Sinead lives on. Her message is eternal.
Rest easy my wild Irish Rebel. I will miss you and your courage.
No artist has ever been able express so much with so little ❤️
Art is able to express what words cannot. But she is not creating art. She IS art. She is heart, pure expression. 🙏
Sure as hell no autotune or lip syncing in her performances. True artist.
"Those in power write the history, those who suffered wrote the songs and given our history we have an awful lot of songs."
Rest in eternal peace dear Sinead.

Ae, me whakangaa te puawai
My family are Irish/Scottish who migrated to America. I can hear her voice in the bluegrass and celtic songs I grew up listening to. She had a voice that was pure and true. RIP Sinead.
How many of those who denounced her because of SNL are willing to stand tall today by what they believed in then? That will tell you how much the world has changed because of people like Sinéad. Imagine a world where these people didn't speak up! Rest in the spirit of love & in gentle peace. May your beloved son be there to greet you. 🪽🪽💔
I love you my hard Englishman
Your rage is like a fist in my womb
Can't you forgive what you think I've done
And love me - I'm your woman
And I desire you my hard Englishman
And there is no more natural thing
So why should I not get loving
Don't be cold Englishman
[Chorus]
How come you've never said you love me
In all the time you've known me
How come you never say you're sorry
And I do
[Verse 2]
Ah, please talk to me Englishman
What good will shutting me out get done
Meanwhile crazies are killing our sons
Oh listen - Englishman
I've honoured you - hard Englishman
Now I am calling your heart to my own
Oh let glorious love be done
Be truthful - Englishman
[Chorus]
How come you've never said you love me
In all the time you've known me
How come you never say you're sorry
And I do

Very powerful. Beautiful performance. You can feel she meant what she was singing.
Often people like Sinead are not understood the depth of her passion continually tormented her . .Sometimes your passion runs so deep you continually struggle .She probably never realized the impact she made on others .I’m sure many times she felt very alone .
Well said. Her empathy and emotional depth made her a great singer, but also made her very vulnerable. The curse of the great artists, I think.
@@StCreed yes I agree .I loved her passion and her music .I think I own every recording she ever made .
Why have you never said you are sorry?"
We love you Sinead and Ireland, and we are sorry. Please find the healing you need and deserve.
🥰
Exactly! Such a beautifully aching song of a couple, but also an appeal to common ppl to stop letting governments divide and kill us. Could be sung to spread peace to many conflicts worldwide I believe
Yes, the line "Meanwhile, crazies are killing our sons" is a tell of the song's deeper meaning.
Yes Sinead wrote this powerful song I was there when she sung this, what a honor 🇮🇪
@@paulinegallagher5010 Wow! Lucky you!

Beautiful beyond words. Sinead O’Connor is just magnificent. So much respect for her. I hope Ireland holds her as a national treasure. What an essentially important artist in our history. 💜

Even though I'm a straight woman, the first time I saw Sinead on TV, bald and all, I was blown away by how mind blowingly beautiful she was - those eyes. Then her voice floored me. Such an emotional performance of this song. Even all these years later it gets me. Sinead O’Connor had an uneven career but produced moments of stunning beauty and emotion which stand the test of time.

Everything she's done is fucking great.

Good for you mister Jim Cambell, I do understand your point of you, but be aware that you are not responsible for your father's "duty", irish people have suffered a great deal, and it's still going on, differently, certainly, but it is still there, tensions between two communities. I , for my part, would like to see the whole of Ireland reunited, that's my wish. I've lived long enough in Northern Ireland to have known what life looks like over there, I can never forget, nor forgive the massacres perpetrated on innocent people who were just eager to simply live decently. My only hope is to see Irish people live freely, on their own land, carry on speaking irish gaelic which is originally their language and keep their own culture. Perhaps, one day battles will be over, but I have doubts...
